WRT610N and Motorola SB6120 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem

I've upgraded to the modem DOCSIS 3.0 in October due to higher bandwidth offerings of Comcast cable.

Everything was fine until last week when I had recurring loss of Internet connectivity requires me to reboot/cycle my WRT610N and/or modem.

I updated the firmware of the currently displayed 1.00.03 B15 and reset the router.  This did not help the situation.

I also tried the suggestions mentioned here, including the Beacon Interval 75, threshold of Frag 2304, threshold RTS 2307, the wide-40 MHz Radio band.  Reset and cycled the router and modem after all this.  I also tried to power off my computer after each reset, all to nothing does not.

I'm still losing Internet conncectivity several times per hour.  LELA is unable to repair the connection.  So far, the only solution is to reboot the router.

Do I have a defective router (still under warranty), or is there a problem to interface with DOCSIS 3.0 modems.  Never had this problem with the old Comcast cable modem.

My WRT610N is version 1 material.  Wireless encryption is WPA - AES, recommended by Beaver in a previous post in August.  Nothing is connected to the USB port on the router.

I "x-out" the last 6 digits of my MAC address for security reasons.

I would be very appreicate suggestions.  I strongly suspect that I would like to order a replacement from Linksys via warranty RMA router.

Thank you for reading this.

Sincerely,

Joe

Received the replacement router on 22-11-09.  WRT610N rebuilt with firmware v 1.00.03 B15.

Installed with the current LELA software.  Wireless laptop was runing Vista 32-bit, Wired PC on XP Service Pack 3.

Everything works normally again.  Replacement router dropped not a (wired or wireless) connection since its installation.

I find that my original router (bought about 3/09) was defective.

After replacement of the router, I upgraded my OS to Windows 7 (32-bit on laptop wireless, 64-bit Wired desktop).  No problem at all with the router.

Hope this helps others.

  • Time Machine and Motorola SB6141 cable Modem is to create an internet break

I had a SB6141 since I got cable internet 1/2014.  I had hung by a former Airport Extreme Base Station - it was all good.  I bought a time machine from Apple refurb > 6 months ago but < 1 year ago.  I had injury disruptions of the internet - I only know when I try to access the internet and airport utility shows time machine ok, but the router cable not connected.   I called the cable company, the last time it happened, and they showed the line was ok and had me hang directly up to the cable modem to get online - and I did!  They think that the router is messed up.  Once I unplug everything and hang it up, everything is ok.  Sometimes it happens one or twice a day, sometimes not for a week, it's not rhyme or reason - anyone have any ideas?   Thank you, Mike George

The SB6141 is a good modem, and airport Time Capsule is a good router. But they don't seem to work together that well for a number of users including me.

Make your choice... keep the modem and try another router... or... keep the time Capsule and try another modem. As soon as you make your choice, the faster your chances for a reliable Internet connection.

You are not alone in your problems.  Take a look at just a sample of other users who have posted the same question:

  • Quality of Service with WRT610N and Vonage

I try to get the quality of Service, in collaboration with my WRT610N and my Vonage device.  The WRT is connected directly to a cable modem, and the Vonage device is connected to the Ethernet 1 port.  I have configured the MAC address of the Vonage on the QoS tab as 'High' priority (done by selecting the 'voice device' on the drop-down list category).  In addition, I put my Vonage options (on the my account page of the Vonage site) to use the higher throughput (90 kbps, I think).  Any other setting QoS have been made.

However, the router seems not to be the QoS application at all.  If I do any kind of surfing at all (dragging around on Google maps to load new pages of satellite is a good test), the quality of voice over a call during Vonage is very choppy.  What I have to do something else to make sure that the Vonage device gets highest priority?

    Follow these connection parameter:

    Modem (DSL/Cable)-> VONAGE-> WRT610N

Your Modem must be connected to your VONAGE and your VONAGE Ethernet, plug it into the Internet Port of you router LINKSYS. You also check the VONAGE internet connection by connecting your PC to your Ethernet VONAGE before connecting the WRT610N router.

  • WRT610N and compatible usb drives

    Hello

Has someone managed to get a stable connection to the external hard drive USB on the WRT610N?

I would use a hard drive enclosure that turns down the drive with a sleep mode for reasons of noise and energy.

With the latest firmware (1.00.02 B10) I tried:

Vantech Nexstar 3i with a Seagate 1 TB - works very well until the player will power mode how the router to start up export drive even if the USB is on and the management page shows the drive always connected

Western Digital My Book essential 1 TB - the router is not even mount the external hard drive.  I tried everything... FAT32, NTFS... waited, plugged the USB in and out, power cycled the router...

Any help would be appreciated, because I spent countless hours trying to get something to work.

OK, I finally have a system of USB storage to work with a hard drive that goes to sleep.

Looks like there's a previous WRT610N that does not have a version 1 on the stamp on the underside of the router.  This router did not work well with my hard drives.  I'm a worm 1 WRT610N and use mounts (1.00.00 B18) F/W, The Western Digital My Book essential 1 TB factory delivered and everything works fine.  On the USB data rates are approximately 2.4 MB/s via wireless with security AES .n and 5 MB/s via ethernet cable.  Funny is that more recent (1.00.02 B10) firmware will not mount drive Western Digital My Book.  Interesting that in the version notes it says «enhanced recognition of USB external hard drives»  Well, at least I'm happy with something that works; 4 weeks and many hours.  Unfortunately, Linksys does no more than F/W on their website, so I'll never upgrade in case I lose the ability to connect to my new hard drive.

    Hi @Atmasin,

I see that you have trouble connecting the printer to the new router. I want to help you.

I would like to reset the printer first to clear the previous network settings.
Turn the printer off, press and hold the wireless button and cancel (x button) while turning the printer on and do not release both buttons until the printer stops making the noise.

Print a configuration report and check the SSID address and IP are disabled.
    Print a Configuration Page.

If the network name has spaces or special characters, the printer may not recognize it.

The printer is able to send/receive in the 2.4 ghz band.

If it is set to 5 GHZ network, you may need to change to 2.4 ghz. (rename the 5 ghz or turn it off)

The WPA key setting must be on AES to work properly not TKIP.

    Multi flow must be enabled.
Router firewall must be open for printer ports.
If you have Mac filtering give you printer hardware to meet the needs of the Configuration page.

You may need to contact your router company to get help to check these settings.

Try to run the Configuration Wizard wireless of the HP software to set up the printer on the network.

If you appreciate my efforts, please click on the "Thumbs up" button below.

If you have any questions, please let me know what steps you have taken and the results. Thank you.

  • Time Capsule do not pick up address DHCP and cable modem...

You just bought a Time Capsule and a couple of Airport Express. If none of these devices are connected together via Ethernet, they seem to have set themselves up, and all is well.

That being said, I tried to create a mobile network instead of pure wi - fi and am studying various behaviors that are not as expected when I rear hub to the Internet Time Capsule, but need to isolate and go 1 bit at a time... (it works not as well as suggest Apple instructions on homelessness of installation)...

    If:

    1. configuration of the modem cable shows that DHCP is 'ON' and supplied address range 192.168.0.x by 192.168.0.y,.

2 Cable modem wireless is disabled,

3 Time Capsule Wan is connected to the cable modem, Ethernet

4 Time Capsule is configured to request its address IP, DHCP

    5. Airport Express is in Bridge mode and have addresses such as 10.x.y.z (appears to be from a Time capsule).

    6. safe as Time Capsule is set to be as DHCP and NAT

    7. There is NO other device in this configuration connected by Ethernet except the cable Modem and the Time Capsule.

So, why is the IP address of the time Capsule 76.181.45.xyz? (The address is NOT in the range of the DHCP as described in the #1; it is not supposed to be?) ....

    Whence this address?

A friend says this address puts the "other side" Time Capsule of the cable Modem, directly on the Net?... (Shouldn't worry?) ....

If none of these devices are connected together via Ethernet, they seem to have set themselves up, and all is well.

It's because you didn't have the devices connected via Ethernet before you set up the. Given that the installation utility saw a wireless connection, it is assumed that this was the way that you want to connect devices on your network at all times... so he put it this way.

If you had an established connection Ethernet before you ran the installer, then the utility would have detected this connection and set up the airport to "expand using Ethernet", does not extend to assistance of wireless.

(it works not as well as suggest Apple instructions on homelessness of installation)...

If all goes well, you don't talk about this document... Wi - Fi base stations: extend the reach of your network wireless by adding additional base stations Wi - Fi - Apple Suppo... .. Since the 'how' information in this article is at least 4 years late, bear little resemblance to the latest version of AirPort Utility and some of the information are simply not true.  This document if trash is what you... He'll probably do more harm than good with regard to the details of setting.  The article is OK for basic general information, however.

    6. safe as Time Capsule is set to be as DHCP and NAT

It should not be if your modem is a modem/router "" or type 'bridge' of the device which is also DHCP and NAT services. The fact that you have disabled the wireless on the device confirms that it is both a modem AND a router. That being the case, then you have two devices that both struggling among themselves to try to control the same network... AND do you also have a network error called Double NAT... something you don't want.

Probably the best at everything again and provide us with the number of brand and model of your "modem", that we can confirm what it is that you have, then the correctly configured time Capsule to work with this device. Once the time Capsule is set up correctly, it will be easy to put in place the other airports.

    Hi LouisteanGriffin,

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    Follow these methods.

    Method 1: Follow these steps:

Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode with network and check if the problem persists.

A description of the options to start in Windows XP Mode

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222

Step 2: If the problem does not persist in SafeMode with network, perform a clean boot to see if there is no conflict of software like clean boot helps you eliminate software conflicts.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow the section How to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state of the link to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

After the clean boot used to resolve the problem, you can follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally.

    (a) click Start, run.

    (b) type msconfigand click OK.

    (c) the System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.

    (d) click the general tab, click Normal startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.

    (e) when you are prompted, click on restart to restart the computer.

Method 2: Temporarily disable the security software.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

  • WAG320N and cable modem connection

    I have a small question,

You could point me to some reference material on my WAG320N configuration to use my modem cable via Ethernet 1 port. I saw that he mentioned it's possible, but I have been unable to me sorting.

And before ask you, I put the DSL router that I move in the next 12 months and my new base will not have access to cable internet and I'll be going back to DSL.

    Thanks in advance,

    Phil

Actually in this case your bad, but thank you for the quick response.

After a few game, it seems that the WAG320N is specifically configured to configure Ethernet Port 1 WAN port and you can route all internet traffic through the modem cable via the WAN port, you just set up.

If anyone is interested, then load up your routers page 192.168.1.1 default config.

    Click Setup

    - Ethernet

Next to Ethernet connection: select the button labeled radio like Port WAN

Most of the stand-alone cable modems will have a static IP address both under the list of connection

down box  Select the static IP address.

Enter the IP address of your cable modem, subnet mask, gateway and DNS address by default. (These items must have all be supplied by your ISP)

And finally click on Save settings at the bottom of the screen to validate your changes.

Then connect to your WAG via the Ethernet switch or wireless connection and you should be good for surfing the web.

I hope this helps someone else who tries to use a modem cable through the WAG320N or similar device.

A router is a device that connects computers (or other type of computer

you need a device called a modem vaguely to do this. The modem also

However, note that there are some available devices that are
