Zire 21 Reset

After reset my Zire 21 and made Hot Sync from my PC, all instructions on your handheld are in English, but on PC are in French (all data are always in French. No problem).

Please what should I do to change the language of the Instructions?

Thanks a lot for your answer.

Hello and welcome to the HP support community!

You must reset the Zire 21 tough and erase all data.  If you have a model International (EFIGS), you will see an option to choose the language when the device restarts.

If the Zire 21 is an "American" model, then English is the only language it has installed.

To perform a hard reset:

By now the power down button, press on and release the Reset button on the back and continue to press the Power button. When the gray Palm logo is displayed, you can release the Power button.

You should now see the warning in 5 languages page. Press the direction upward on the 5-way keypad to perform the task. The Palm restarts several times as it re - install the original programs and erases all data from your previous.

Make a HotSync to return data from the user for the device.

I was given the device by a student who was more useful.  I would like to delete a software called CompTracker but also to clear the calendar, etc., while not losing do not have any other software again on the device.  How can I do this?

Hello and welcome to the Community Forums of Palm.

A hard reset will be wipe everything clean, all the data and applications and leave you with just the built-in apps that come preinstalled.  The Zire 31 has also come with additional third-party software (see below) on the installation disc.  If you hard reset the device without first HotSync on your computer, you will lose these third party apps, unless you also have the original disc and any other person that the previous owner had installed as well.

You can first install Palm Desktop on your computer, then sync.  HotSync must recognize the Hotsync ID existing on the device and create this ID on your computer, then save all applications and data to your desktop.

Then you can Hard Reset the device and Hotsync again.  This time, when it asks you what Hotsync ID to use, create a new one for yourself.  Later, you can go in Palm files on your desktop (c > program files > palm) and look for the user folders.  There's one for the old ID Hotsync, and one for the other, you just created, they'll folder names that will resemble the Hotsync ID somehow, perhaps an abbreviation or combination of initials.  In the previous user folder, locate the backup folder.  Which will house all the third-party applications that were previously installed.  You can double click on those you want to restore.

[NOTE: many commercial third parties applications require a registration or activation code in order to work beyond the trial period.]  [These activation codes are generated based on the unique Hotsync ID of the device, which means that if the previous owner purchased the software that you want to continue to use, you will not be able to do it with a new Hotsync ID... you could use existing ID the device]

  • Zire 22 hard reset

Now that I replaced my Palm Zire 22 with a Palm Centro (Sprint), I want to give my Zire 22 to a friend.  Before I do that, I want to erase everything from my Zire 22.  How can I perform a hard reset on my Zire 22?

Hello and welcome to the forums of Palm.

A hard reset is done by holding down the power button sticking something thin (your pen, paper clip) to the rear reset the hole of the device. Keep your hand on the power button while you release the paper clip in the reset hole. The display now shows "Palm Powered." Release the power button. Now, you will see a screen in 5 languages and invite you to erase all data from the Palm. Screen says "erase all data?" Yes - go to top, no - down"and you click on the arrow pointing upwards (Silver button on the browser of 5 channels on the lower part of the Palm). This erases all the info from your device.

  • Dead Zire 21 - new battery need? How to disassemble?

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. Hope you can help me a bit with my little experience of Palm.

I had a Palm Zire21 that has some problems with turning the power on. It does not seem to load. At least, I couldn't find any screen it does. How can I check whether or not it requires? Should there be something visible on screen?

In addition, when it running on the power supply and the connection via USB to the computer it does not appear. I was expecting to see here when it is powered. So I think that the battery may be dead. Is this feasible? I tried to disassemble the appliance but do not know how. On the back there are two Torx screws. I can't release them. I have to? Otherwise, how can we separate the housing of the electrical inside without destroying?

Connect the power supply and leave your handheld on charge overnight. After recharging, let the pocket computer plugged into the power outlet and press the reset button several times on to see if the device turns on. If so, you should get a battery icon with a lightning bolt through it to indicate the battery is charging.

If your handheld turns on not following these steps, you can call Palm to set up a repair. The price to repair the Z21 by Palm is $ 75.00.

There are Internet sites that have spare batteries and some directions of the repair. Search for Palm zire21 battery.

For reference purposes, click the following link to the support page for your device on the kb.palm.com Web page.

  • Zire 21 touch not responding

I had a variety of Palm devices but have not had this problem before. I bought this on eBay a year ago Zire 21, but didn't really start using it until last month when my Zire 22 becomes unreliable. The touchscreen does not at all. When I turn it on, it's to alert page. I cannot remove all alerts, cannot go to the calendar with the button or using the touch screen.  Thanks for any help.

Looks like a hardware issue to me, but if you have the data backed up safely via HotSync, then feel free to try a Hard Reset.

But know that if it's a hardware problem, even a Hard Reset will not fix it.

  • Zire turns on automatically

Whenever I got disabling my Zire, it turn on automatically as soon as the minute on the clock - not necessarily change after a set of 60 seconds.  I read some of the messages and responses, but I could find no reason for it in this info.  He always did - I have had it for 4 years (?) but it was not used at all in the last year or two.  I did a hard reset and reinstalled Palm Desktop today, so everything should be updated?  It is not because of the alarmed appointments.  I have no plans for tonight.  The only third party things, I added are a couple fixers of digitizer for a problem I had shortly after the purchase, but which is supported.  I wouldn't mind uninstall these but don't know how to do no more.

    Help!?!?!

Rename the folder to backup on your computer (in the folder that looks like your Hotsync name) OldBackup and sync. Only PIM data will come. You can then reinstall third-party applications in the folder OldBackup using QuickInstall.

  • Failed to get previous name of owners of my Zire 31

After doing a hard reset, I was able to get a piece of software on your handheld.  His name kept coming up on your handheld so I went into palm desktop and removed all users.  My name remains.  I then did a sync and low and here's his name still appears on the handheld.  I then pressed the power button on your handheld while pressing the reset button, and now the darn thing will not cut?  I'm not computer illiterate, but it baffled me.

With your help, this beginner have solved it. Thanks a bunch for your tech savvy.

  • Memo file causes Zire Crash

I have a Zire22 that worked well until recently. Now, after the synchronization of the device, when I try to access the notes from the screen is blank and I need to reset the Zire. Everything else works fine. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the software of office without success. Is there a fatal corruption or is there something I can do?

It seems that the memos is corrupted. I would hard reset the device first if all your information is saved on your PC. Then I would delete/restore all memos on your computer. Once you finished to correct the memos, I then go to Hotsync and change led him memos on DESKTOP computer REPLACED of POCKET. I think that should do it.

If this happens tell Calendar or contacts again follow the same steps - there is really no need to uninstall the software, unless your getting a windows error.

  • Zire HotSync problems

I have a Zire m150 I mainly used as an address book. All was well with HotSynching my Zire with my laptop XP Home until two things happened. My husband bought me a new PC with XP Pro and I realized that my Zire battery was totally dead. So I recharged the battery and it seems that I've lost all addresses. Then I tried to HotSync the Zire with my XP Home on my old laptop. The Zire goes through all the steps for HotSync and said that everything is synchronized, but when I check it, there is nothing of the laptop. No address on my Zire. It seems it would be easy to HotSync my Zire with my old laptop, and then HotSync with my new PC. Help! I'm so frustrated and don't want to retype all those addresses! I'm not particularly tech fan, but may well follow the directions! Thanks for any help.

First of all allows to check and see if you have more than one username in Palm Desktop. To make this opening Palm Desktop and in the upper right corner, you should see a user name. Click the menu drop down and see if there is more than one. If If hard reset your device by going here http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887. Then re-sync and when it asks you to choose the username that has your address in Palm Desktop.

If this is not the case, go next to your clock on your PC and look for the hotsync Manager. Do a right click on it and go to custom. Then go to the address or contacts. And select Edit. Do the so-called Office replaces handheld. It will have an arrow pointing from the computer to a device. Be sure it's from the PC to the device. If it is the opposite case, it will delete all your data from your PC. Synchronize and see if your data is there.

Post back if you have any other questions.

  • Cannot sync the calendar - Zire 72

    Hello

I reinstalled the operating system (Windows XP Professional) in my computer and since then I tried to sync my palm (Zire, 72 s).

I use palm desktop 4.1.4 and when I try to sync, it starts ok, running until the calendar. Then, the operation remains here, apparently synchronization, but isn't moving forward. More than once I waited for hours and nothing happened.

I even tried to uninstall to the old registry cleaning as described in the forum post and reinstalled the previous version of Palm desktop (on the CD). Then, I brought the old data that I had a back upward. The calendar data that comes from the backup file appeared on the desktop. After that I tried to sync again and the same thing happened.

I changed the configuration of the synchronization and timing is not sync. I even tried the option "handheld replaces desktop" just for calendar data, but it does not work as well.

It seems that the problem is with the calendar. Can you help me please?

    Thanks in advance

    Arnaldo

Most likely a corruption of documents on the device itself.

Try to install the pimlicosoftware.com DBFixit.  The free trial version will look for and report on errors found in the calendar.  It will fix some for free, but others may require to buy the program.

Your other option is to Hard Reset the device and start again properly.
