BEFSR41 Setup

Hey, I bought a used BEFSR41 v2 and have tried to connect to thomson speedtouch modem. It came with the installation software did not work because it isn't a linksys modem. Then I logged on the router by train until appropriate settings (obtain an IP automatically). But I can't find any tab 'Wireless' or something like that. I want to put in place the mode SSID and encryption (WEP, WPA, or something like that) and the password to the router. "There is none of that it isn't" password, status, DHCP, Journal, configuration, security, assistance, (security comes from AOL parental controls). In advance what it is is filters, shipping, dynamic routing, static routing, DMZ Host, Mac Addr clone, and that's all. I tried the firmware update. He said it was a success but did not restart (I rebooted manually). Now he says I have firmware from 2004. If anyone can help at all the IDs to enjoy, like Im about to give up.

Thank you very much

Dan

The BEFSR41 is a wired router. There is not a wireless.

  • BEFSR41 works, but Setup does not load

    Hi all

    Weird problem.

I have two PC hooked up to the same router, a BEFSR41. Both connect to internet just fine. You can access the page of configuration/admin to the router fine. On the other, however, the router asks you a user name and p/w, but the configuration screen never loads. I get the message "Loading" eternal, but it never gets there.

    Attempted fixes:

    Factory reset

    Firmware update

    Reinstall the NETWORK card

    Pass the CAT5 cable

    Switch port

Cycle of modem, router and power PC

    Disable the firewall and AV

    Tried two different browsers

Login ID and p/w is not incorrect, without typos. I done this 20 times less than today.

I am writing to the PC with the question, while there are of course traffic and communication with the router. And I'll say it again, I get to the login screen every time. She accepts the ID and p/o, but the configuration page itself does NOT load. If I walk through the room and the connection on the 2nd PC, it works very well and I can't acess all the configuration screens.

It's seriously making me crazy. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

He solved. I do not fully understand, but I solved it. I'm frustrated and began uninstalling things rather than simply of deactivation.

Problem was the AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition, v9.0.698.

Open the AVG user interface, opening the shield component reside, then uncheck "Active resident shield", receive you a Windows warning that no anti-virus is active, as well as the red shield icon indicating a security problem. Windows Security Center, then opening and inspection of field Virus protection indicates that "AVG Anti-Virus Free signals that she is not".

With this in mind, I was confident yesterday, since AVG told me I had turned off, since I had actually turned off.

    Evil.

A background activity must remain on even when AVG tells Windows that it's off, because uninstall AVG has allowed me to access the router configuration page immediately.

I have reinstalled AVG after confirming that the Linksys configuration page was now available with IE8, FF 3.5.5 and Chrome (it was). Settings by default after reinstall caused the problem to return: router request and accept p/w, but configuration page does not load. Then I started to turn off specific components of AVG from the user interface.

Was of the AVG Active Surf-Shield, which lies beneath the LinkScanner component. Deactivation of Surf-Shield allowed me to immediately access the router configuration page. The problem and the solution are both reproducible by checking and unchecking this box a only.

Stay two free ends (which frankly, I don't like enough about to mess with):

    (1) why doesn't AVG, and therefore Windows, report itself disabled when in fact, some elements of it remain active? The inability to really (and ideally) disbable the program without uninstalling all difficult troubleshooting.

    (2) why is the 2nd PC on the same network can access the router configuration screen, even with AVG Surf-Shield active and running? The only difference is that the PC with the problem solved now rolls AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition v9.0.698 and the PC that never had a problem running v8.5.425. It's curious because both computers have the same version of the virus database and the same version of LinkScanner (145). Remember that this is a component of LinkScanner causing the problem, so that both computers have the same version of LinkScanner is particularly weird.

Thanks for the replies. I saw this question on several message board posts over the past two days, and I hope that this correction is useful to other owners of Linksys.

    Best,

    Krin

  • BEFSR41 v. 1 - do not get IP WAN, updated firmware to update

I can get into the setup on the web.

    I can ping.

ipconfig indicates that the LAN IP address is correct (192.168.1.1).

All lights are light up properly.

My internet connection works correctly (i.e. without the router).

I've upgraded to the latest firmware (for this version of the router which is v.1, yes it's old).

"But... under the tab"Status"in the setup, when I type"Release DHCP", then on DHCP renew," the WAN IP address is 0.0.0.0.  How can I force this thing to look for an IP address?

Just can not know what does not work!

    Any ideas?  Thank you!!!

    (Mod Note: edited title)

Assuming that you have a good ethernet cable between your BEFSR41 and router upstream (ADSL "modem" or "cable modem"), I guess the router upstream ISP (ADSL "modem" or "cable modem") is looking for a particular MAC address and is to remember your computer (since you've tried things wihtout the BEFSR41).  You have two choices.

    (1) turn off the router upstream (ADSL "modem" or "cable modem"), turn off the BEFSR41, wait a full minute, switch on the router upstream (ADSL "modem" or "cable modem"), let it resync to the line (takes a minute or two), then turn on the BEFSR41, see if it receives an IP address.

    If no, then try

    (2) to clone the MAC address of your computer on the WAN interface, repeat step 1.

  • BEFSR41 wired router affected by change of modem cable

    Hi all

You don't know if someone here can help me with a problem with the router above following a change of modem, I can get things to work, but once everything is turned off, the next time it starts things are back to how they were.

To give a bit of history...

My setup is a G4 Mac and a Xbox 360 Elite connected to a wired router BEFSR41, which in turn is connected to my cable modem, I am based in the United Kingdom so my ISP is Virgin Media.

This configuration has been absolutely rock solid for more than 3 years, but last Sunday, I was unable to connect to internet and I noticed that the light on the modem was flashing instead of be constant, as it is supposed to be.

I called Virgin and they did a test signal and confirm there is a problem and sent an engineer. He arrived Tuesday and confirmed the modem was very old and had packed and replaced by a new. We rebooted everything and everything was fine, I could email and get out on the internet as before.

It worked fine the next day too but on Thursday morning, despite the fire loan being constant on the modem, I couldn't online again. I called Virgin and they did another test signal and said that something did not look right and they would send another engineer.

He came Friday (different GUY), but confirmed that there is nothing wrong with the modem, the signal is OK just to verify, plugged the Mac directly into the modem, bypassing the router and I could get on the internet without problem.

It seems that the router is at fault, but I have to say that it is a massive coincidence that it has stopped working correctly two days after the modem has been change, so I was looking at the configuration of the router via my browser page, and the only thing I did was to confirm under Type of Internet connection that "automatically an IP address to get" has been selected and I saved the settings and bingo everything works well again.

So I put off, Mac, router and modem and switched back them and I'm at square one, no internet access. If I go to the router setup page again, "get automatically an IP address' is still selected and if I hit again 'save settings' everything works fine.

I then started to bounce back each element separately and by turning the router or the mac on / off does not affect access, I am still able to get on the net, but as soon as I bounce the modem, I'm in the place again until I have click on 'save' on the router set up page.

It's just my head in - what is the modem to the router to make it 'lose' its parameters and specifically, how to fix?

I must say I don't remember when I bought the router through any complex installation, it is basically out of the box, go hooked upward and worked for 3 years and more.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

    Nick

As far as I know, it seems that you have a cable modem.

Your BEFSR41 should work with your modem when the BEFSR41 has been reset by default.  In addition, in some cases, you may need to 'clone' of the MAC address of the computer (the one that works when you connect it to the modem) in your BEFSR41.

To reset your router by default, follow these steps:

    (1) turn off all computers, the router and the modem and disconnect from the wall.
    (2) disconnect all the wires of the router.
    (3) turn on the router and let it start up completely (1-2 minutes).
    (4) press in and hold the reset for 30 seconds button, then release it, then let the router reset and restart (2-3 minutes).
    (5) turn the router.
    (6) connect a computer cable to port 1 of the router (NOT to the internet port).
    (7) turn on the router and let it start up completely (1-2 minutes).
    (8) the power of the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it's off).
    (9) try ping on the router. To do this, click the 'Start' button > all programs > Accessories > command prompt. A black DOS window will appear. Enter the following text: "ping 192.168.1.1" (without the quotes) and press the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that begin with ' response to... ". "or"Request timed out". If you see "reply from...". ", your computer has found your router.
    (10) open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to the login page of your router. Let the empty user name (Note: some routers have a username "admin") and in the password field, enter "admin" (without the quotes). This will take you to your router configuration page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually found near upper right corner of the screen).

    (11) If you need to clone the MAC address of your computer, do this step now.

    (12) If you get this far without problems, quit your browser and put your entire network.  Then, using an ethernet cable, connect the ethernet port of your modem to the Internet port on the BEFSR41.  Leave your computer connected to a LAN of the BEFSR41 ports.  If your modem has a USB port, do not connect anything to it.  If your modem works with a battery, remove it now, and then wait one minute, then replace the battery.  Turn on your modem and let it start up completely (1-5 minutes).  Turn on your BEFSR41 and let it start up completely (1-2 minutes).  Turn on your computer.  Try to connect to the Internet.  If you have a problem, temporarily disable your firewall software computer and try again to connect.  If you still have problems, see 'The replacement boot order' below.

If you can not ' response to... ". "in step 9 above, your router is probably dead. A report with this problem

If you get a response in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, is that your router is dead or the firmware is damaged. Related to this issue.

If you need additional help, please give the results of steps 9 and 10. In addition, if you receive error messages, copy them exactly, and report.

Please let me know how things turn out for you.

    Changing the boot order *.

The boot order (modem, router, then computer) that I mentioned above is the classic boot order, and it works with most of the networks.  Some networks will work well if you turn on all devices at the same time.  However, the other networks is very picky about the way in which they are started, and they may also require a different boot order.  Sometimes, it can require a lot of experimenting until you find the boot order that works.  For example, I had once a system requiring that I start the router first, wait 5 minutes, and then start the modem and the computer.  Try different orders on your system until you find what works.

  • Problem installing BEFSR41 Steb 11 but still works

    I have a BEFSR41 V4.3, F remotely 2.00.4 building 5, June 3, 2008.

When I try to put in place using the disk, I always get stuck at step 11, with the message that I need to re - configure the router. But who does not move me because I always get this message after many trials.

Here's the thing: both computers are now hung up to the Internet via the router and work and can talk to each other. (One running XP Pro SP3, the other Win7. My ISP is Earthlink, and the modem is ZyXEL Prestige 600 series). All the lights on the router that are supposed to be on are on. I'm good to go, or do I have problems such as security invisible?

    Thank you

You have 2 computers connected to the router, and both computers can access the Internet.

I think that your router is setup and works very well. There is no need to run the CD more.

  • Installation of v 4.3 BEFSR41 problems

My BEFSR41 will not complete the installation because it cannot connect to the internet, despite the power cord, a cable ethernet to the router and the computer's ethernet cord connected. All the indicators show the it to work and when in Control Panel / Network Conecctions, indicated as connected and he finds no errors when I try to repair. Setup disk will not end because he cannot find connection, and I can't do it manually, as you must have connection to the internet. Directly connecting the modem to the computer (as I do now) works fine and I even tried another router to another brand and it works. It is fresh out of the box, and he replaced an old Linksys of the same type which slowly began to lose speed (downloads to 3 KB per second) and stops randomly and start again. Any help?

You can try improving your router.

Go to the Web site template linksysbycisco.com/downloads...insert in your serach tab... select the correct version of your router router... Download the firmware file... save this file on the desktop

Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware of the device: -.

Open a page in Internet Explorer browser on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1... Leave name empty username & password admin lowercase usage...
Click the 'Administration' tab - then click on the 'Upgrade Firmware' under the tab-here, click on 'Browse' and navigate the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait a few seconds until it shows that "the update is successful," after the upgrade of the firmware, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned to the same page OR it will say 'cannot display the Page.

    Now reset your router:
Press and hold the button of reset for 30 seconds... Release the reset button... Unplug the power cable from your router, wait 30 seconds and reconnect the power cable... Now re - configure your router...

  • BEFSR41 and New Modem/router DSL

Verizon has recently replaced my DSL modem with a new DSL modem/router with a dynamic IP address. Even though I have full internet access with the new modem of the Setup for my Linksys BEFSR41 router disk will not be connected to the internet. What should I do for the new modem so that the Setup disk will see the internet? The DSL modem/router has only one port so I'm not able to have more than one computer/device hooked up at the same time so I still need my router.

Well how about you that :-) It all works now. Thank you guys.

  • Network Magic cannot discover a "BEFSR41" router behind a "WET610N" wireless bridge

Just upgraded to a WRT610N 2 version in my office.  He pulls an IP address from my cable router and distributes IP addresses (this is setup for DHCP) without problem.  I need to extend the home network to another part of the House so I took 2 x WET610N wireless bridges.  Since many devices will have to use the bridge I'll recycle my BEFSR41 as a switch.  I have the router configuration and bridge; the bridge connects to the port "uplink" on the router, and the DHCP has been disabled on the router.  But when I run Network Magic BEFSR41 router cannot find the other side of the bridge.  Any ideas?

You need this post in the section Network Magic from this forum.  If the router acts as a switch, it will be transparent and not e seen.

  • Apple Watch unlock Mac Setup Frustration

I own a first generation of Apple Watch and an end 2013 13 "MacBook Pro and last mac mini (i5). I went through the entire setup process to have my watch unlock my MacBook several times. (All along the) When I get to choose the button "Allow your Apple Watch unlock your Mac", it runs for awhile and then I get the "unable to contact Apple Watch" fast. It seems to be my watch because if I try and let the Apple Watch locked, she'll tell me to unlock, and then try again. Happens on MacBook Pro and mac mini in the same way.

I tried to research on this problem and we tried all authentication reset to two factors for an agreement again all settings and turn it on again.

    Any thoughts?

    Thank you!

    Hello pgirardi,

I appreciate that you try to unlock your two computers using your Apple Watch with watch OS 3.  The resources below provide the steps and requirements to do this.  I would just try it with a single computer until you have a job before trying the second computer.

Automatically unlock your Mac with your Apple Watch

The first time you open a session after you turn on or restart your Mac, connect by entering your password manually. After that, Apple Watch connects to you.

    Set up automatic unlock

Make sure your Apple Watch uses watch OS 3, and your Mac to mid-2013 or newer model uses macOS Sierra.
For more information, see system requirements of continuity.

    Automatic unlocking

Automatic unlock works with these devices and operating systems:

    watchOS 3 macOS Sierra
    • Apple Watch (1st generation)
    • Apple Watch series 1
    • Apple Watch series 2

    • MacBook (early 2015 or newer)
    • MacBook Pro (late 2013 or newer)
    • MacBook Air (mid-2013 or newer)
    • Mac mini (late 2014 or newer)
    • iMac (late 2013 or newer)
    • Mac Pro (end of 2013 or later)

Make sure your Apple ID to use instead of the two-step verification two factor authentication. Learn more.

Make sure that your devices are configured as follows:

    • Your Mac has Bluetooth and Wi - Fi enabled.
    • Your Mac and Apple Watch are connected to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
On your Mac, choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, and then click iCloud.
On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, then go to general > Apple ID.
    • Your Apple Watch uses a password.
On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, then type the access code.
    • Your Mac has "allow your Apple Watch unlock your Mac" selected in Security & Privacy preferences.
Choose the Apple menu > System Preferences, click on Privacy & Security, then select the general tab.

pgirardi, if you are unable to unlock your main computer after trying these steps, then you will need to cancel the match your iPhone and Apple Watch and try again.

Cancel the match your iPhone and Apple Watch

    Take care.

  • Setup various AE advise

I have problems to get the maximum speed. My ISP is 150 MB and I have this Setup:

Airport Extreme (6th generation) placed in the living room connected to the Ethernet modem (modem is bridged, no router). When I connect this way, it gives me 130-150 MB, which is fine.

However, when I connect these devices all starts to vary:

    1. an other Airport Extreme (6th generation) is connected to the hand on. Expansion of the network. When I try to change the option expand Network turn off this airport restarts but never succeeds and gives me an error. The only thing I can do is add then reset again and then I can only use the extension of the network. This normally works very well but do not know what it might cause the heavy fall.

On this second AE Ethernet port I have attached a Synology NAS with my music, and so on

    2. an Airport Express (A1392 3rd gen) that I now set to join the network to see if things would improve. This one I use for music and it has a smart thermostat bridge (Tado) plugged into the Ethernet port

    3. an Airport Express (A1392 3rd gen) which I used to use to expand the wireless network but have disabled now I read that the extension of the network makes the slower WIFI and I'm afraid the Express slows down the extreme speed AC but not sure about that.

    4. a Time Capsule from Apple (4th gen) which I use for backup. I disabled the connection here as I believe join or extend the network would be to ask questions. I have attached a few devices through Ethernet at the back of the TC.

The various airports are in different places in my house but not more then 10 meters (30 feet) on the other.

That Setup would you recommend in order to get the best speed in different places?

    Thanks for the help!

    1. an other Airport Extreme (6th generation) is connected to the hand on. Expansion of the network.

If you extend the network using a wireless connection between base stations, it will be the first performance issue you will encounter. It would be preferable to extend it using a wired connection between base stations. This is known as a roaming network configuration.

    2. an Airport Express (A1392 3rd gen) that I now set to join the network to see if things would improve. This one I use for music and it has a smart thermostat bridge (Tado) plugged into the Ethernet port

In this configuration the AirPort Express performs like any other client wireless on your Wi - Fi network. He also performed an Ethernet bridge wireless for the Tado. It does not perform routing functions, or it extends the network. In addition, please note that the A1392 is a base station 2nd generation 802.11n. There is no 3rd generation... yet.

    3. an Airport Express (A1392 3rd gen) which I used to use to expand the wireless network but have disabled now I read that the extension of the network makes the slower WIFI and I'm afraid the Express slows down the extreme speed AC but not sure about that.

Yes, what you read is correct. Again, you can reduce the amount of the penalty to performance of a network using a network of itinerant type instead. This requires not all base stations to be connected by Ethernet.

    4. a Time Capsule from Apple (4th gen) which I use for backup. I disabled the connection here as I believe join or extend the network would be to ask questions. I have attached a few devices through Ethernet at the back of the TC.

How this time Capsule is connected? Wired or wireless and other base stations? For the record, it cannot be configured to 'join the AirPort Express wireless network'.

The implementation of recommendation would be a roaming network.

  • the iTunes Setup program finishes, but the application does not appear

For starters, I'm on Windows, but it seems that the system is not the problem because it's happened before, with my Macbook Air.

I download iTunes on Apple's site and Setup will run as usual and finishes. But iTunes never displayed in Program Files, the destination he was supposed to have downloaded. I opened the Task Manager and tried to manually run the program yourself by using 'itunes.exe', but he writes that the application does not exist.

For general advice, see troubleshooting problems with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps described in the second case are a guide to remove everything related to iTunes and then rebuild what is often a good starting point, unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

Review the other boxes and other support documents list to the bottom of the page, in case one of them applies.

The more information box has direct links with the current and recent if you have problems to download, must revert to an older version or want to try the version of iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) as a workaround for problems with installation or operation, or compatibility with third-party software.
