  I bought my 8800 1 year, 2 months ago - ideally past the 1 year warranty.  My trackball works in all directions except for left which seems very strange.  It is impossible to call the RIM without them charge me something to talk with them and Cingular / AT & T says there is nothing they can do that the phone is no longer under warranty.  Any ideas?

  The same thing happened to me. My trackball moved to the top, left and right... but not down. Big problem! So I google "blackberry trackball" and found this link useful:

  I took mine such share as specified in the instructions and cleaned the "wheels" - and it works fine now. Hope this helps.

  The trackball on my new tour is not very sensitive.  I adjusted the horizontal and vertical sensitivity and I am still having no luck.  It's just a phone faulty or is - this one falls of this new phone?

  Y at - it something that I can blow into the area of the trackball because sometimes it sticks. In general, I have to move where I can to loosen upwards and which works after awhile. I heard that you can blow air with a can that be clean watches so I thought who could work with that?

  I got my BB to the store where they replaced the trackball for $10, and he now works as it should. As my warranty has expired for a long time, I was happy with that. Panic at the wire.

  I love my 8830 and other browser limitations, have found very useful and enjoyable to use. However, in the last day or so, the ball started working very erratic. It moves but does not select items on the screen or sometimes even will not open a point when I clicked it. I got the 8830 since March 2008.   I got my curve for about 2 months of working great, but the other day I found while browsing, I can't use the trackball click in links or copy and paste things.

  I have just a message updated App world does so to do. It took an eternity to complete installation (not download it I was on wifi) anyway... When he places he said combined must restart... restart now... I hit Yes & now the handset displays the first page load blackberry. complete. appear the little clock timer directly in the upper right of the screen for 1-2 seconds and then restarts again. I have the soft reset, hard reset. everything removed. Still will not work just advice get the phone to load so I can link with PC & Restore?

  It would seem that you can't do ANYTHING with the handset. you need to connect to the pc to bb software. I also think I got maybe a little lucky that there is a new update to the software that I currently have... This may not work for everyone but that's...

  Removed the battery.

  You will get the pop up saying unable to connect to device blah blah blah... (Attempts to update)

  Click Update.

  do the update until he tells you that he cannot continue as impossible to connect to the device.

  Insert the battery

  keep hit try again (jump to the top of 3 more times for me)

  It will complete the update of the software

  Then combined loaded perfectly (but slowly)

  And boom 9900 works again. A restoration needs well now, which is a pain.

  I hope this helps someone. I was pulling my hair this question. RIM really needs to step it up, too many people having the same problems with not a lot of answers. Rate of return must be ridiculous for this one bug stupid oo

  Just activated two days ago, no problem until this morning. Trackball is completely insensitive to the home screen. After pressing the menu button, it works fine on the biggest application menu.

  Clicking nor scrolling work.

  My new "BOLD" worked very well the trackball stop scrolling down.  (I have not wet.) It scrolls to the left, right and just right.  I tried the battery and soft reboot with no luck.

  I had this same condition, would not scroll to the bottom, thought he went left and top right without problem.  It is not a question of dirt.  Seemed work after "the ball training" once more.   I have deliberately insisted the ball and crossed towards the down, up, left, right in equal directions and it seemed to recover after this instance.

  I got my new unit only 3 days when he went in this mode, and it has not happened since.

  Looks like you have stuffed animals or "filth" in the housing of the trackball.  You can try to climb down hard on the trackball, then view with force.  Sometimes that loosen everything that is the cause of stick.

  Well, it is, unfortunately, your discretion of suppliers. If they have evidence that there is physical damage, then no, you don't have right to a replacement under warranty. It is less than your carriers policy is different from any other electronic device that I know.

  Physical/liquid damage could void your warranty.
