Blank Screen + cursor At Startup / Pavilion g4-2149se Notebook

Hello!

As stated, I have a HP Pavilion laptop g4-2149se running Windows 7.

For the last 2 weeks almost whenever I start my computer, before getting the Windows Welcome screen, I get a blank screen, persistent with a slider. Then, he'll finally get to the Welcome screen, but before it loads my office, I'll take another white screen persistent with a slider. Honestly, I am grateful that my computer is always start at all... But is it possible to fix the persistent blank screens? It makes me nervous.

I looked on the web a solution for days and everything I could find, I tried, but nothing has worked. I uninstalled all the Windows updates recent, hoping that one of them had gone bad, but it did not help the situation. I scanned for viruses and malware and found nothing. I just downloaded a program because I noticed the problem started (4 K Video Downloader), although the program does not seem to be a problem for someone else.

Anyone have an idea how I could possibly fix this or maybe I missed something? Any help is appreciated!

Hello riahahah,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I read your post on how your laptop lingers on a black background with a blinking cursor in the top left of the screen, and I'd love to help you!

To fix the persistent on your laptop screen, I advise you to follow this document on the restoration of the BIOS. This should help to restore the default BIOS settings to a point where you are able to boot Windows faster than before.

Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your response!

  • Black/flashing of screen cursor on startup-#VGN - NS110E

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NS110E. Recently, we have noted problems with it and try to run a virus scan and it will re-start during the anti-virus scan.

Then a few days ago I was running a virus scan again and it started again, but this time came to a black screen, after Vaio initially, with a blinking cursor. I can't start Windows. We are running Vista on this computer. I don't know if it's a 32 or 64-bit system. I was able to enter the Vaio recovery center to try and fix it that way today. I ran diagnostics material without returned error. I tried to restore the C: drive and when it restarted, once again, the same error of Vaio screen starts but screen with cursor blinking then black.

Help, please! How can I fix it? I can't really afford to replace the hard drive, but I need to fix this problem. I saved what I need, but we have no boot drive for vista.

    Certainly, any help is appreciated.

Thank you for your post and welcome to the forum.

I would recommend that you run Diagnostics of material on the computer before trying another cover, it will be on the same screen as the restore options. This will check the RAM, CPU and hard drive. If all goes well, there may be a problem with the recovery partition, you may need to buy a set of recovery media to reimage. If after several attempts, that the recovery will not end the unit may need service. You can organize yourself from following link:

HP Pavilion dv6000 (Vista) starts with a blank screen with a cursor after the original hp logo screen.  Cannot get it to boot Windows.  Any thoughts on next steps?

I remove the hard drive and attach it to your desktop and use the host operating system to run a check disk on your drive.  The laptop goes hard disk looking for instructions to start and he does not see the correct code.  This is probably due to a damaged boot sector.  Another idea is that your bios has changed and you have changed the SATA from AHCI to IDE type somehow or vice versa. You also left a non bootable disk in the DVD/CD drive.  Remove all disks from your DVD.

Can you boot into the BIOS screen (pressing F10 when booting) and check if the laptop can be started in it?

If so, I recommend to run the system diagnostics and check if the hardware on the unit works very well.

In case it does, you can check if you can press F11 and restore your computer to factory settings. Please make sure that you back up your data before performing a recovery.

  • Black screen that appears (with a cursor) after startup on Windows 8

When I start my pc I get a cursor and a blank screen after the Welcome screen. Help please

    Hi Salah,

Thanks for posting your query in the Microsoft Community Forums.

According to the description, it apepars that you get with the black cursor screen after the Welcome screen. I will certainly help you fix this problem.

    (1) the question has started recently?

    (2) have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

Method 1: Unplug all external devices connected to the computer except keyboard, mouse and monitor and check if the problem persists.

    Method 2:

Step 1: I suggest to start the computer using safe mode and check if it helps.
Start settings for Windows (including safe mode)
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-8/Windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode

If the issue is not persistent, then follow step 2 to find the cause of the same.

St ep 2 : I suggest to maintain the computer in clean boot mode and check if the problem persists.
A clean boot to check if startup item or services to third-party application is causing this issue.
You can read the following article to configure the computer to boot:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135
Note: When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual.

    • On the Start screen, type in msconfigand press ENTER.
    • On the general tab, type or click the Normal startup option.
    • Press or click the Services tab and uncheck hide all Microsoft services, and then press or click enable all.
    • Then, press or click on the Startup tab, and then press or click Open the Task Manager.
    • In the Task Manager, select all your startup programs and then press or click OK.
    • When you are prompted to restart the computer, tap or click restart.

Method 3: I would also say you update the display drivers and the graphics card on the manufacturer's Web site and check the status of the issue.

I hope this helps. Try the above steps and get back to us for more assistance and with the requested details, if the problem is not resolved.

  • HP Jet Model # BCM943142 HM: Blank Screen at startup

I have a HP flow I bought on a back to school sale this year. This morning when I opened and turned on, I got was a blank screen. Sometimes the screen the cursor by itself and sometimes the cursor with a blue circle, but most of the time, nothing at all. I tried to turn it off and reboot several times. I tried to close and open it. I tried turning off the coast, close, open and turn it on. The same results each time, a blank screen, sometimes with the cursor and the blue circle.

I tried the tips on this forum to do the following:

Boot the computer normally and log.

black screen, hold down the ctrl and alt keys and press DELETE.

    Select Task Manager.

There are several additional steps, but the keys CTRL + ALT + DELETE does nothing. All I get is a blank screen, so there is no way I can choose the the Task Manager or anything else.

    I don't know if it's a VICTORY of 8 or-bit 65 32 bits or 8.1 but I have listed the template # if this helps.

  • Pavilion G6 1010SA: Blank screen after start upward

Unless I leave my laptop on sleep I get the following problem: when I then start it starts (power light & fan on and I hear cd rom as it starts) but there is no display on the screen at all, it is only black. Either by the way, the blue light caps lock shift flashes once every five seconds then stops, then continues the cycle. I went through all the normal fixes (remove the battery press button start for 30 sec etc etc no luck) and after perseveering attempts of 40 or 50 by pressing F8 repeatedly at the start I finally get a result.  and I am offered beginning of normal startup mode / safe etc. and then windows 7 log on screen performance. Evertime I get the screen back, I noticed that the date is returned in May 2009. Other small things like no sound setting when I click on the desktop icon are also apparent. Restore to an earlier time makes a difference in the way.

Is this all along the CMOS battery? I know it's in a nearly inaccessible spot on this laptop!

Also, I tried to reload the BIOS on the HP site but it has no effect (despite the fact that there is an update this year apparently).

    Help?

    Hi @WaterlooSunset ,

Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome. It's a great site for information and questions. I looked in your question about your HP Pavilion g6-1010sa Notebook and the problems dated back to 2009. Try to check the RTC battery. Could be low and causing the time clock (RTC) incorrect real which would cause the error of the internal battery. Here is a document to show you how you can replace that.

    Hope this helps you.

    Thank you.

  • I get a blank screen just before the connection with a single visible cursor

Currently, my computer will load where the login screen should appear, but instead merely display a white screen with the mouse cursor in the middle that I can move around.

I tried restoring the system manually at a point in time that he began to arrive. That did not work. I tried a restore of the system manually to a time past, does not work well before it began. I tried to have my computer to do in the repair option to "restore to the last known good configuration" and that did not work. I ran various programs that look for malware, spyware and viruses many times and found a few things, but nothing of this has solved the problem. I tried to check all my drivers and they say all work and all drivers say they do not need an update. I tried the system repair tool and he found nothing wrong, even with the memory to check tool that finds nothing wrong. If I press SHIFT 5 times to the white screen with the cursor, I'll hear the keys to self-retaining beep, but no prompt.

One thing that happened was that I was once in the blank screen and I pushed to escape and I noticed that the cursor has turned to an hourglass. Then I tried Ctrl alt delete and which opens a command prompt and from this command prompt it allowed me to go to the usual login screen. Then, my computer work as it did just before this problem (a warning would pop-up Windows saying that it stopped a program that you try to start itself without permission and who would be come like every minute or so). But since then I havnt been able to reproduce this same result to load or by opening the command prompt.

And safe mode works very well.

I was reading around online and there was something that said they had the same problem and download internet explorerer 7 helped. as well as a similar problem which was fixed when IE8 was downloaded an update of windows. the guy deleted and it was fine since.

I tried to download the latest version of Internet Explorer, but it cannot be loaded without rebooting, and I can't enter the normal screen that opens after the cut to finalize it. I always still try to remove it as well as the update of windows.

Another difference I noticed is in the loading bar than before windows starts as the login screen. It used to be thick green blocks that crossed with the windows logo. Now, it's a block really thin yellowish green (which reminds me of the life blocks Mega Man in his health bar if that helps lol) and no windows logo because it does it (if it says copywrite along the bottom windows corporation).

If anyone has more aid in addition to the info windows give a repair tool, please help. Thank you.

    ===============================================================

Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leave the file system, Web,.
Operational network (Script and behavior are also recommended in Ver 6 +).

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom
    right of IE)

Two versions of Avast are available 6.x and 4.8 x

Avast - home - free - 6.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)
Shields of behavior) - double click on the icon in the Notification area - real time Orange - click on the
Shield that you want to stop - STOP. To stop the Orange icon to show an error indicator-
Click on the Orange icon - top right - settings - click on the status bar - uncheck shields you
    disabled - click OK
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Avast 4.8 x - home - free - stop shields, you don't need except leaving Standard, Web,.
and the network running. (Double-click the blue icon - look OK. - upper left - Shields details
    Finish those you don't use).
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#TAB4

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security
programs. It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something come back here
or use Google to see how to remove.
    http://www.prevx.com/   <-->

Choice of PCmag editor - Prevx-
    http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.asp

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever think malware and that
would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie
(not much), to UPDATE and then run it as a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they
never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

  • G1V01UA-ABA: Blank Screen of Death, Please Help.

I've had this computer for about four years. He never gave me any problems.  Year last completely off and would not turn on. I scoured every forum, every miracle solution, but nothing. I constantly run across a single problem at all, none of them are exactly my problem.

    White screen, Check.

    Flashing Orange button Wifi, check.

    Flashing caps lock, incomplete.

I see the time and time again there must be a flashing caps button, but it flashes never for me, only the wifi button. It also flashes symbol of white power on the side of my computer, but that's all. The battery is fine, I need to hard reset it, believe me, I've done about 30 times, I don't have to mash the F2 or F11 buttons, it does not connect to an external monitor, nothing. Please, I beg you. I really need to solve this problem. I went through around $1,000 dollars on replacement computers and it's the only one that I really relay. If you can think of a good way for me to solve this problem which has already been mentioned, it would be apperciated.

Also, note aside, do NOT refer to support me, because I spent more than 15 hours trying to contact support and never help me with everything that I need. HP has horribile customer service, but that's normal.

    Hello

I am very new to the CISCO world! Preparing for CCNA and thought having a laboratory at home would be a good idea! Got stuck on the first session never :(

I got Catalyst 3550 which is connected via a USB-Serial cable, after 2 days has got to get it connected to the COMM port. However when I run my switch with SecureCRT open, it does nothing. Just a white screen.

Could not find good help online, may be new to the world of networks and research my problem with wrong keywords. Finally I thought to go to the CISCO forum looking for an answer to my problem...

    Everyone, please help!

    Much appreciated! :)

    Day 2

After a few hours of waiting and trying a few other things, thought to try if the COMM ports are working OK or not.

    Using Windows command prompt.

Echo Hello > COM1 (directed by management of devices in use) return no error message doesn't mean works great!

Echo Hello > COM3 (as directed by management of devices in use by my USB serial adapter) return no error message doesn't mean works great!

However when trying to glazier, SecureCRt and Tera Term my Catalyst 3550 does not load anything on the screen and just a blank screen with blinking cursor.

    Someone please help!

    Hello

    other options:

    -use another COM port

    -updated driver for USB-to-serial adapter

    -use another USB-to-serial adapter

-use another outside the secure crt terminal emulator software: PuTTY teraterm, hyerpterminal,.

-Try another PC/laptop (the oldest is serial port)

-Try a USB-to-serial cable and console on another router/switch

If all else fails, I propose to replace the 3550.

  • Black white page, rather than the page of the screen and normal startup applications, once I signed with my password.

    Hello
In may 2013, I bought a new laptop with Windows 8 pre installed system.
Now, all of a sudden, after signing with password etc, all I get is a black and white page instead of the splash screen and apps showing. The mouse cursor is visible on the white screen and can be moved to ok. Unfortunately, it is that he will. I seem to be able to access some of my documets using the keys Ctrl/Alt/Del, which is strange.
Can you offer help with my problem?
    Thank you

I have a Samsung SideSync Homesync lite and two days ago I suddenly had the same symptoms as you all - a blank screen after trying to open a session.  I tried the Ctrl/Alt/Delete road but no change to this problem.  I have however to solve the problem using the following route:

    1. go to the LOGIN screen

2 hold down the SHIFT key

    3. click on the power bottom-right icon

    4. in the Menu that opens select Restart (yet now shift key)

    5. in the Menu that opens select troubleshooting

6 in the next menu, select Advanced Options

    7. in the next menu, select auto repair.  The computer will try to fix the problem.

8 if the auto repair does not repair the problem back to 5.  and select troubleshooting.

    9. Select Refresh your PC note what's going to happen and if this is acceptable to you then:

10 then select and open a session according to the instructions.

    11. your PC will be update and cure your problem - it did mine.

Note the update process takes awhile then works in the network not the battery.

I think that the problem is the last update of Windows tried to install before a prior update was carried out.  Moral: make sure that your windows updates are up-to-date.
