Can't make a clipping mask?

Hello: Level: Newbie'ish OS: Win7 64 bit Illy: Cs6

I'm stuck with a few steps in a tutorial

Here is the link: http://vector.tutsplus.com/tutorials/icon-design/how-to-illustrate-a-stethoscope-icon/

My troubles are at the stage #12

Everything works fine until I get to the part where it says: "copy the Crimson circle and glue it to the front.

... first of all, I think that the copy must cover everything, right? At least it like that picture of the tutorials. Well, it does not cover, and it seems to stay in place.

I look in the layers palette and you can tell that a copy was made and I look under Edit, and he said to the title of the cancellation: Undo Paste in front.

I'm supposed to select the Crimson Circle copy then the mixture and then go to object > clipping mask > make

Rather than run, I get an Error Message that says: "cannot make a clipping mask, The Top selected object must be a path, a compound shape, a text object, or a group of people.

No matter what I do, I can't do a clipping mask in this way.

Someone at - it ideas? I have read a lot about a clipping mask today and looked in the FAQ nothing helps.

I'd be greatly Grealy appreciate all help.

(If you have been affected by the Sandy storm I hope all is well with you, that you are doing better and that you stay warm. God speed.)

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my post and for trying to help me.

Copy paste the copied object in front of the selection before and that if there is no selection then forwards (at the top of the stack) in the layer highlighted or the top of the stack in the same layer if the option "Paste remembers Layers" is checked in the menu of the layer of the Panel. The tutorial is unable to say at this stage that you must deselect first object you copied or select the object you want to paste in front of, which in your case is the mixture.

You cannot use an object as a clipping mask, and that's why you are getting the error. When you select a top-level object a regular path as the circle you try to stick to the mixture so the clipping will not work.

    I would like to make a clipping mask of all of the objects above the 'text' layer (so that all the stuff from the layers above applies only to the letters), but I'm fighting. On the one hand, when I go to separate 'Group 1' it changes the complexion of the graphics and makes it darker for a reason any. Also, when I merge the layers above a 'text' I get the following:

    Someone knows how to do this?

    NM, I found the answer:

    • Place all layers above a 'text' in a group (it is acceptable to nest groups).
    • CTL/Cmd-click on the thumbnail of the layers of 'Text' Panel to load as a selection.
    • With your new 'master group' targeted, click on the "New layer mask" icon in the layers panel.

    This will create a layer mask on the group to which applies the content group only for the non-transparent pixels on the text layer, which I think is what you're trying to do.

    Job

    Yes, it is quite possible.

    Two things: the use of closed paths. And if you have multiple objects, you must do a compound of them before you make a mask.

    You can also use the direct type of masking. Simply put in front of the image, select both and Cmd + 7

    Thank you, Jacob. I don't know that is easier or more efficient, but I ended up inserting all of the images on top of each other, and copy and paste in place (Ctrl + Shift + V) my rectangle. Then I chose a rectangle and an image and apply the mask (Ctrl + 7) and then sent it to the back with (Ctrl + Shift + []) before repeating.

    So I'll try to do for this graph clipping mask image 34, I want it to look like 35.

    I've got the guy of contruction on layer 1 and cut the two outputs on layer 2 preceding, I have grouped all and click on mask of clipping/do and nothing happens. I want the two cuts to cut the sections on the subject of contruction.

    Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong?

    Dan, hold,.

    Here's what I did:

    1 leave the two white forms at the front

    2 send the black construction guy in the back

    3. Select the entire document

    4 effect/Pathfinder > less front/subtraction

    Do not use the effect, use the Pathfinder palette, delivered with Transform and Align palettes.

    Then it should work.

    Less prior is the name of the option in the new version (s), shape box in old subtraction.

  • Html5 Flash - How can I make a clip from movie internal slow down and stop when it happen a certain group?

    I'm creating a car braking system using flash, and I have a spin of the wheel. I want the wheel to slow down and stop after the brake pedal is pushed to a certain range. I know I could do with frame-by-frame animation but hoped there is a short cut - javascript? If not the party slowing then is the code to do just the internal clip (rotation of the wheel) to stop when it is in a frame. ? Thank you

    You can use the ticker class to create a loop that allow you to control the rotation of the wheel or a framework, TweenJS v0.6.0 API Documentation: Ticker

    Convert the image into a movieclip, give it an instance name and review using the Tween class to provide the gradually changes the scaleX and scaleY values of any object that you want to zoom.

    Import fl.transitions.Tween;
    Fl.transitions.easing import. *;

    var twX: Tween = new Tween (instanceName, "scaleX", Regular.easeIn, startValue, endValue, zoomSecs, true);

    var twY: Tween = new Tween (instanceName, "scaleY", Regular.easeIn, startValue, endValue, zoomSecs, true);

    The above code is written instructively more literally.  Everything I have in bold you can or need to define.

    Many people recommend using third party because of better performance and other reasons tweening classes.  So you can focus on them after completing this work.

    You can do so quite different or similar with masks of Cliping, without or with background color purple/note/smoke.

    Note: There was an error in the first proposal in post #18: in step 5) you must select C) (purple/note/smoke color background to cut of the) instead of d) (the underlying texture of parties drops black), sorry, I just spotted it.

    You can (reusing a part of the first proposal):

    (1) return to, or start from scratch, with the following basic elements (starting with this stacking order):

    (A) the compound path, forming the dripping inner circle party black (in A).

    (B) the compound path, forming the external parties dripping with black,

    (C) the color purple/note/smoke to cut background

    (D) the underlying texture parts of gout black,.

    (E) the underlying texture of letter parts internal;

    Select 2) A) and B) and copy both to the top of the stacking order, then release both Compound paths and remove the inner path from A) and the external path of B), then turn them into a new compound path, consisting of forms of internal letters (you can use Pathfinder > less first plan or object > compound path > make);

    (((3) E move) (the underlying texture of parts internal letter) up just below the new path composed of 2), select both and opposition > clipping mask > make, and then to hide;

    (Select 4 (A) (composite route forming the dripping inner circle in black (A)) and b the compound path forming the outer circle dripping parts black) and object > compound path > make;

    ((5) select the combination of 4) and D) (the underlying texture of parties drops black) and object > clipping mask > make.

    (Show 6) 3).

    (C) the note/violet/smoky colored backgroun, if keep you it, or any other background will be visible everywhere where it is not covered.

  • Pull on a path copied from a clipping mask?

    Hello: Level: Beginner, OS: Win7 64 bit HERE: Cs6

    I followed a tut to:

    rator http://www.cutelittlefactory.com/tutorials/Create-an-awesome-Space-Rocket-avatar-in-illust.

    down under the #4 step it says copy & paste the circle which is inside a clipping mask and drag it out of the mask in order to reproduce twice.

    but I have no idea how say instead, I pulled out of the mask, or even, in fact, how to go about pulling out of the mask

    so far, I copied and pasted in front... copying and pasting before bring it outta the mask?

    I need to create a new layer after that I copied and then paste it on the new layer?

    your time is appreciated. I'm going to continue my search for an answer

    Kara,

    Abstain further comments on the tutorial, there is no need to delete anything.

    You can simply:

    Create the circle and shift two ways (this is visible), and then click the original circle and shape and the underlying object > make a clipping mask. Alternatively, you can start with either riveted and offset circles twice by the same amount.

    Or, if you must, start the same way as the tutorial (when all is deselected):

    (1) select direct the shadow and the object > path > offset whatever it is;

    (2) Ctrl / Cmd + X + F to bring the first lag path above the clipping mask (you can give it a stroke if you wish;

    (3) object > path > Offset path the other way (by double the amount with the reverse offset).

  • When I do a clipping mask the object must be empty

    So when I make a clipping mask, my objects/figures before all take "zero" filling the picture goes away and I'm left with nothing

    How can I fix this or what I am doing wrong?

    (work in CS5)

    Your explanation is very good.

    You want to keep your type of live (editable)? If so, select the type and the triangle, then option-click on the pathfinder all United in the pathfinder Panel. What makes a compound shape. Now place this form in front of you want the clip, select compound shape and art, press command-7.

    If it is not necessary to maintain the editability of the type, describe the type and listen to Steve.

  • Text CS4 - multiple blocks of text clipping mask

    Can someone explain why the clipping mask only works with a single word / text block? I have a poster with the text - 5 blocks of text I want to place a photo on top - but every time I do a clipping mask > it just makes all empty? (I've grouped text blocks, then place on the image, then make a clipping mask-.. .so all empties)

    I tried only using one of the block of text on the image - it works fine. But I don't want to import 5 photos for clip 5 blocks of text?

    Any idea?

    Thank you kindly,

    Chemol

    Kurt is listening alone. (Typical). Make a shape composed of your LIVING text blocks (select all, option-click on the pathfinder unit). Now, select the compound shape and your image behind him and press command-7

    Idea of RC to use the image as a pattern fill also works perfectly. Here, you first need to embed the image in your document BEFORE the Panel color chart will accept it as a model.

  • Text fill or use a clipping mask, then using the knife tool

    Hey, new to the forum here, and I have a problem...

    I'm scanning my notes for a course in Earth science, and I use Illustrator CS5.

    I'm trying to do a simple text effect that leaves me perplexed.

    The text says "Earthquakes" (indeed, 24pt.)

    I like the texture of the text with a picture of sandstone.  I can do this.

    I would like in conjunction with the text in two with the knife tool.  I can do that, too.

    I can't for the life of me, what to cut the text in two after applying the clipping mask.

    No can I apply the texture (via a clipping mask) after having cut the text in two.

    I tried all kinds of different combinations, including doing some work in Photoshop, and still nothing works.

    I tried to create a plan (apparently essential to use the knife on the text tool), cut the text in two and then make the clipping mask, but that only gives me letters, invisible, which I can't seem to fill with the appropriate image.

    Anyone out there have any ideas?

    In the case where it is not clear, I want my text to be filled by a picture, then I would cut half in text (I prefer to use the knife tool, as it looks better with a curved cut)

    It's as simple as that, but I could not fall on a solution on my own.

    On a side note, I also spent on some tutorials for 'cutting text' is to draw a line through it, and then using fracture in the Pathfinder palette, but this guard send me errors.  Thoughts?

    First of all, there is no need to use a clipping for texture mask. Drag the photo in the "Swatches" Panel and then use the texture sample resulting to fill the text! Then, drag the text object texture in the symbols Panel. Now you can drag the 2 instances of the new symbol on the artboard and hide to create the look you are after. Using this method, your text remains editable and can be changed by editing the symbol.

  • on sunbeam clipping mask changes the transparency / appearance?

    Hi, quick question:

    I have a poster that contains a vector of sunbeam (as the form found in photoshop "shapes" - circle with beams that project outwards). Anywho, I have this form in my file illustrator and need to clip the edges off the coast for the customer who wants the piece to have a border white 1 "on the edges of the drawing or model 44d.

    When I place a box empty / form on the rays of the Sun and then click "make a clipping mask" it changes the appearance / dye rays of the Sun. I have a multiply transparency applied to the sunbeam - how can I preserve the original aspect if I need to put a white border / cut the edges of the sunbeam? Is there a better option than the clipping mask, or am I missing a step somewhere?

    Thank you

    Chemol

    First, select both rectangles.

  • Frustration of clipping mask

    Hi all

    I have used here. Somehow, I can't get a clipping mask to work in illustrator CS4. I've been using photoshop for years and only started using illustrator and it is completely different!

    What I am wanting to do is simple. I am doing a logo and you want to add a mask of white clipping on the text, add a gradient and set the opacity to about 30 to get a glow effect. Whenever I do this, even if the clipping mask does not work, the new layer with the disappears just of white form! When I have fill it with white, once again, it appears on all the other layers. It's really frustrating me.

    That's what I'm doing:

    1. Enter the text

    2. create the white shape with the tool feather in the new layer above the text layer.

    Layer 2-form

    Layer 1-text

    In photoshop, that I simply select Layer 2 and create a clipping and what is - mask this. In illustrator when I goto "Create clipping mask" white form has suddenly become vacant and when I fill it up it is just that comes all overlap and not only the text layer as I want it to do.

    I had once it works and it worked fine until I brought in photoshop via AI. file, then I could see the whole shape that just overlap the clipping mask just disappeared.

    I would really appreciate help on this, it's very very frustrating!

    Thank you!

    W,

    It's hard to explain that you don't understand what I mean?

    I think so. You can create a copy of the one on top of the shape and with those two selected object > clipping mask > make. Which allows you to hide the form outside the A, and the original A part will be below it.
