Cannot open my virtual hard drive

I tried to create a virtual hard drive, so that I can view and edit files from my backup of Windows from my hard drive.  I have a 'new virtual machine' installed, but when I opened this program, I get this message.  "No startup disk is specified. Although you can still boot from a floppy disk, it is recommended that you specify a startup disk. "I guess my question is" what? "No, seriously, how can I specify a startup disk?  And what start up disc can I specify?  And why is it so freaking hard?

HAL,

Thanks for the reply.  Now have the OS installed and working, just like having another computer.  But... I can't find a way to access my external hard drive with the Virtual Machine.  My external drive appears in Windows Explorer on the virtual computer.  Cannot get to recognize the external hard drive.  Any suggestions?

Thank you

Dennis

    Hello meatindustries,

What operating system do we use?

The answer to this question, we can pursue various troubleshooting methods.

There are many third-party data recovery utilities available for free online.  You can search for these using your favorite search engine to find one that you like.

  • impact of a newly created virtual hard drive (in windows 7) on the ability of system recovery

someone has experimented in the use of virtual hard drives (VHD)?

you are looking for a Recovery Manager questions I found a warning about the Recovery Manager lose functionality after you change the partition of hard disk (HDD) (create/delete partition, volume retraction/extension/delete a partition). as said for example. under http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c0208555

A disk hard virtual is this constraint list too

A virtual hard disk does not actually create a partition on the hard drive

A virtual hard disk allows multiple operating systems to reside on a single host machine. This method allows developers to test the software on different operating systems without the cost or the hassle to install a second hard drive or create another partition on a hard drive.

    Hello

    ·         You receive an error message when you restart the Explorer?

    Method 1:

You can run a scan on the hard drive to check for errors and repair if there is no performance problem.

    Reference:

    Check a drive for errors

    Method 2:

Attempts to start in the State of clean boot and check if the problem persists.

Put your boot system helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. If so, you need to maybe contact the manufacturer of the program for updates or uninstall and reinstall the program.

See the following article in the Microsoft KB for more information on how to solve a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

    Note:

After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

  • Restore the virtual hard drive backup on a different node with different IP and host name.

    Hi guys,.
I want to do the following.

My reliable backup strategy is the virtual hard drive backup. The database is installed on a virtual particulay machine (node). Now, I do not take the backup of the DBF files or control files or files from archive.
I rely on the virtual hard disk backup. It takes the entire Virtual Machine backup. Now, I wanted to restore this virtual hard drive backup to a different node with different IP and host name.
But before I start the database, there are some things I need to do.
As change address IP address and the hostname registered with the database installed and its services.

Please guide me through the steps on how to perform the activity.

    Concerning
    Lam...
    SOA admin.

I think that the whole operating system will be restored in a new virtual machine... I have it... The changes will have to be done in the file listener.ora (hostname or IPADDRESS and also PORT NO in case you want another port as the existing one). Once you have made the changes that you have to bounce the listener, I mean stop and start the listener... I don't think that any other changes are needed... Make sure that the same need for entries (from the listener) to be included in the TNSNAMES file. ORA file both client-side... The tns service is used to connect to the remote database server (from the demand side or whatever source you used to connect to the database server)... I just think that the change to do... Hope its clear... Please try...

  • Lenovo G580 - menu to start cannot find CD/DVD, HARD drive

    Hello everyone

I have a little trouble with this laptop lenovo G580, which cannot start.

Problem: HARD and CD/DVD drive is visible in the tap in the bios info, but they are not visible in the faucet of the boot, only an IP4 and IP6 EFI network are visible.

I tried to change the HARD disk first to ensure if she would do anything, but did not work, so I spent back.

But I've never seen this kind of problem before, so I really have no idea what to do.

The version of the bios installed is V9.01 I hope that if someone has an idea that could help solve this problem.

    -Mootix-

It seems ok I solved my problem, I will report how and what I have done, so anyone with the same problem can try this.

OK, so apparently the Bios have been installing only the boot devices to reqister who had something to do with Windows 8, which means that the hard drive that was completely empty of any data, had nothing to do with Windows 8 and therefor can not be started with the current Bios settings.

    1. open the safety valve and turn off temp only "secure startup.

    2. go to the tap of Boot and change 'Boot mode' for Legacy Support UEFI.

    3. in the tap water Boot changes 'Boot prio' "first Legacy.

4 reboot and press F2 and verify tap boot to the disk under "Boot device prio.

    Fact

I think that since the drive HARD have Win8 installed it will not display as boot device unless it is on Legacy Support.

because UEFI on the G580 only supports the HARD disk with a Win8 installed operating system.

Now, I should be able to reinstall Win 8 - 8.1 on the HARD drive.

  • Cannot detect the external hard drive.

Original title: USB to ATA/ATAPI bridge, cannot access hard drive

I have a lenovo g570, its brand new, I have because I broke my old laptop but managed to recover my hard drive from my old laptop.

I bought all the necessary equiptment to open it, I have different devices to connect my hard drive to that allows me to connect to any laptop.
However everytime that I plug in my new laptop I get the USB to the ata /atapi view of bridge and can't access my hard drive. its really annoying me now. Ive tried all the links and updates that have been previously mentioned on many forums and still nothing works. Ive did go into the Device Manager... still no luck. It indicates that the device is functioning properly. I don't know what to do. some help would be great.

    Hello

    1. What is the brand and model of the external hard drive?

    2. what exactly happens when you access the hard drive?

    3. you receive an error message?

I suggest you try the steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Try to connect the hard drive to a different USB port or try to connect the hard drive in another computer and check that the problem persists

Method 2: Try to download and run the Fixit tool from the link below.

Hardware devices do not work or are not detected in Windows:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/GP/hardware_device_problems

Method 3: Also check if it is detected in disk management.

    a. click Start.
    b. Type diskmgmt.msc in the search box of start and press to enter.

    c. check if the external drive is detected.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Cannot delete a virtual hard disk

  • Cannot open 2 Virtual Machines at the same time to access the same database

    People,

    Hello.
I'm installing RAC Oracle Database 11 g 2 system with 2 Virtual Machines (rac1 and rac2) on top 3 VMPlayer.

The VM rac1 and rac2 when one of them is stopped.
Their locations are F:\VM_RAC\rac1 and F:\VM_RAC\rac2.

I opened rac1 rac2 is running. But this error message appears:

Error: "cannot open F:\VM_RAC\sharerac\asm1.vmdk drive or one instant records, that depends. Reason: cannot lock the file. »

While rac1 running, I opened rac2. But this error message appears:

Error: "cannot open F:\VM_RAC\sharerac\asm1.vmdk drive or one instant records, that depends. Reason: cannot lock the file. »

2 error messages are the same. This means that I can not open 2and rac1 rac2 VMs at the same time. When we run RAC system, must open 2 "machines" or machines to more than 2 at the same time, so that all machines can access the same database server.

    My question is:

Can all folk tell me how have rac1 and rac2 run at the same time?

    Thank you.

Unfortunately no, Oracle RAC requires that all nodes can visit the same set of shared disks. If your database resides within the DSO, each instance ASM (one per node) must also see the same set of disks to ASM diskgroup containing the data of the database files.
