Client VM copies between ESXi hosts

Hello

My apologies if this has been posted before, but I can't find the answer I'm looking for.

I transferred the guest of a virtual computer files using download the data to an ESXi host to another store. Is it possible to open the comments on the destination host ESXi?

If this is not the right way, what is?

Thank you

If you have already copied the files then you can browse the data store in the new host, right-click on the VMX file and select Add to the inventory.  When you start the virtual machine, you will be asked if it is a copy, or if the virtual machine has been moved (see the summary for the VM page if you do not see the issue).  If you do not use the same groups of port VM on the host of the 2nd, then you need to change the VM to fix this as well.

The way you moved it is fine.  You can also use VMware Converter for tasks like this.

    Hello

This work is a line perhaps? If you use VMFS as target, you must double check the block size, if it is the default 1 MB, the maximum size of a vmdk disk is 256 GB.

The value you got 274878668800 bytes, divided three times by 1024, gives you exactly 256.0007095336914 GB. This is probably the problem.

  • Share of CPU between ESXi hosts in a cluster?

Is it possible to configure a cluster with a pool of CPU resources such as all CPUS of all ESXi hosts in the cluster are in the pool and if a virtual machine starts using more CPU that's current host has it can draw another ESXi host CPU to deal with?

A virtual machine can use CPU only from the host where the virtual machine works... There is no way to allocate CPU of multiple hosts to a single virtual machine.

  • Storage vMotion-Direct between ESXi hosts

    Hi all

It is my first time on the boards, I hope it's the right way to go on this subject.

I have problems with Storage vMotion, it's not a set up us would use normally, rather than by necessity with the current scenario.

We have a desktop which has 2 x 5.1 ESXi hosts. They do not have a budget for SAN with the installation of HBA, and it is only a single requirement. I have to migrate virtual machines from one to the other, but with no external storage. I wait with Storage vMotion directly from a local data store to another.

I activated the software iSCSI on both ESXi hosts

Created a vSwitch separated with a VMkernal on two physical hosts

The two VMkernals are on a separate subnet * 172.16.1 and production vSwitch is 192.168.5. *.

The NIC allocated for the 172.16.1 network. * is both connected to the same physical switch.

I ping the VMkernal and the vmkping the VMkernal

Scan for storage again and nothing shows up.

I used software iSCSI before, for a long time so I'm probably rusty. Dynamic discovery is normally indicated in the SAN to pick up storage, and finds it just local storage on each host itself.

In this scenario, I told the IP address of the ESX2 VMkernal on 172.16.1 ESX1. * since I have no external storage. I think it is, I'm wrong, but I don't know what else to do to recover local data warehouses.

Any ideas to try would be very appreciated.

    Thank you

You must open the ssh ports in the firewall of ESXi.

In vSphere Client check the host-> Configuration-> Security Profile-> Firewall-> properties

and select "SSH Client" If you need to scp connections outgoing resp. "SSH server" If you want to enable incoming connections to PCs.

  • Setting up iSCSI between ESXi host and MD3000i, firewall Option missing

I try to configure the iSCSI access and the MD3000i manual head to the firewall option in VI Client.  However, when I go to Configuration - & gt; Profile of security - & gt;  the option firewall appears briefly and disappears?

I'm having problems to recognize the iSCSI host table and I think that this may be due to the firewall.

    Hello

I believe that in the latest versions of ESX (3.5u3 for sure), 3260/tcp port (you need for iSCSI) is automatically opened when you turn on the iSCSI (iSCSI software that is).

You should choose abe to connect using the VI client, click the host in question and select the 'configuration' tab and then the item "security profile. Who should be open all ports.

Remember that when you use iSCSI, you must as well a VMkernel port and connection of console in your LAN IP storage space. If two IPs per ESX host. The Console launches the iSCSI link, the VMkernel carries the iSCSI connection data.

EDIT: Sorry, only now I noticed that you are using ESXi. In this case, you won't need a port Console service (because ESXi has one)

  • Cannot add ESXi host to vCenter Server

    Hello

I created a home set up a VMware datacenter for study purposes. I currently have 2 virtual machines: an ESXi host with vCenter Server Appliance deployed on this subject.

I configured the server vCenter through web interface device and I have connected using vSphere Client.

I created a data center, but when I try to add a host, I get "ERROR: the request exceeded."
Connection with vSphere client directly to the ESXi host works.

I can connect using SSH to the ESXi host.

I have disabled the firewall on the ESXi host.

I have read many articles on the kbase but nothing helped me to solve this problem.

    You have any ideas?

    I finally got to understand.

It seems like my vmware workstation is not connected to the esxi as a physical host in my local network host, and so I was able to ping it unit of vCenter Server (but it worked the other way around, and that's why I thought it was ok).

After the connection to the physical LAN of VMware workstation settings, everything worked fine.

  • VM automatically migrated back to ESXi host

    Hello

I recently installed and configured a Cluster DRS on vSphere 5 on the customer site.

In the cluster, we added 5 ESXi host. Four HP DL580 G7 with Xeon X 7560 processor and a HP DL580 G5 X 7460 Xeon processor.

Apparently the X74xx and the X75xx processors are not compatible for vMotion and DRS is impossible between ESXi hosts.

I tried to vMotion VM of a loaded ESXi, DL580 G7 host, for DL580 G5 the only customer, but the wizard gave me
    a compatibility error saying that;

"CPU host is compatible with the requirements of the virtual machine to CPUID level 0 x 1 'ecx' register."

I tired to use EVC on cluster ma to make compatible CPU but no luck! could not execute predefined EVC profiles!

I just turned off the virtual machine, so I'd be cold - migrate to the ESXi host.

Could do when it was off, but when I turned it on it automatically ran on the previous ESXi Host which is held before the migration.

For me, it was strange! because firstly he moved successfully to the new host of ESXi, but came back on the other after power.

    I have two questions about the scenario above;

    1. why the VM turned their backs on the other host ESXi?

    2. How can I solve the problem of cpu compatibility?

    Thank you,

    NetRock

' VCA Can' active br because the cluster contains hosts that lack VCA-compatible equipment.

Please check the BIOS of the host settings and do 'VT - x' and the 'no. Execute Disable"are both set to"enabled ".

  • It is possible to create an interface between the host and the VM

It is possible to create a virtual switch between esxi host and a virtual machine.  I know that technically I can get to the esxi host for the virtual machine in the virtual machine network and back into the host esxi during the port of the kernel.  But we wonder if it is possible to have a private network setup so that the VM guest can talk directly to the shell host secure without leaving the network?

Yes you can - create a virtual with a vmkernel port and a port of the VM of the group as long as they are on the same segment that traffic will not leave the ESX host

  • ESXi hosts SBS 2011, clients lose network via VPN

    Greetings,

We have an ESXi Server (in a lab environment) who perform a SBS 2011 and a Windows 2003 (Terminal Server).

We have two locations, connected via a VPN IPSec (2 boxes of ClearOS).

The ESXi host is located in building r. customers in the construction of an experience no problem at all.

Customers in the building B often lose connectivity to network share. We also failed when copying data. Do not forget that the servers are located in the building and issues affecting only users in the B building.

We noticed the event ID 2012 on the VM SBS 2011 event viewer.

The two buildings are connected to a cable broadband 10 mb / 1 mb ISP.

NOD32 Antivirus is installed on the two virtual machines

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thank you

    Hello

There are a few things to look out for more such links. The following steps were made on W2K and W2K3, so that they are still applicable for you.

    (1) is the VPN capable to manage the packet being sent by site B MTU size, sometimes the MTU on VPN size must be less than the default value of 1500 set LAN. You can check this scathing your server with a command like

    ping f-l 1500

If you get a message like "packet needs to be fragmented but DF parameter.

You will need to reduce the size of the MTU TCP/IP in the client registry. Try to ping the server with a size of 500 bytes and see how it goes.

    (2) setting the server TCP/IP stack

In the registry HKLM \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters, create or modify value DWORD of TcpMaxDataRetransmissions. By default, it is set to 5, but I recommend double this value to 10. The TcpMaxDataRetransmissions value is the number of retransmissions of TCP of a data segment without acknowledgement of receipt on an existing connection. TCP retransmits data segments until they are acknowledged or until the expiry of this value. Basically, when a client does not meet a package from the server, the server will attempt to retransmit the packet until TcpMaxDataRetransmissions many times. By increasing this value, you give the customer more time to answer on the server, which will help improve the flaky connections or connections with latency or higher than normal packet loss.

    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\KeepAliveInterval and HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\KeepAliveTime.

    Both entered DWORD.
KeepAliveInterval determines the interval between retransmissions keep until a response is received. If a response is received, the delay until the next keep alive transmission is again controlled by the value of KeepAliveTime.
The connection will be broken once the number of retransmissions specified by TcpMaxDataRetransmissions is remained. KeepAliveInterval is set by default at 1000, which is one second.
KeepAliveTime controls how many times TCP attempts to verify that an idle connection is still intact by sending a living package of the Dungeon. If the remote system is still reachable and running, he will acknowledge receipt of the living transmission to keep. KeepAliveTime is set by default to 7 200 000, or 2 hours.

    I hope this helps.

  • Difference of ESXi hosts between analysis of updates and patches of scene

    Hello

I have two ESXi hosts with round about 700 applicable patches.

What is the difference between "stage Patches"und"search for updates"?

Do I need maintenance mode for the scene fixes?

    Kind regards

    Roland

    screenshot.jpg

    Hello

Scan for updates will scan the hosts against the basic lines of patch you have attached to them and to report on the status of this host against the base line, so, essentially, Scan for updates will tell you what patches and updates to your departure are absent from the host if the return "non-compliant" or "compliant" if all patches are already installed.  It can also return 'Unknown' or 'Inconsistent' according to the status of the host and other factors.

Step will basically copy all files to update and patch that must be installed to the willing host for the conversion, which will be more actually to install patches.  Staging of updates to date does not make service, you don't need to put the host in maintenance mode, while the staging, the host must be in service during the reclamation mode.  You can trigger a reorganization without staging, but the benefit of the staging is, first of all, you will reduce the amount of time that your host is out of action because all patches and updates are already in place in anticipation of final approval, which means that the rehabilitation phase is much faster.

    I hope this helps.

  • VMware ESXI host Client is not compatible with the Ipad

    Hi all

First of all I want to say that I am very happy with the introduction of the ESXI host Client, it's a very good start for not having a vSphere client to be installed.

One thing I was hoping too is compatible with mobile devices, for example, an IPad. Unfortunately this isn't the case. Not for IOS 8 or 9

I tried several browsers without a bit of luck.

    There are several problems;

    • The page is not scaling properly
    • The top bar is not visible, you can, for example, sign out
    • The Web page expands when you rotate the page on the iPad horizontally, not having not not able to see the Web page complete.

I found these problems in Tech Preview, build 2015.08.25.3015331 combined with ESXI 6 with the latest patch

    Kind regards

    Marcel

    Hi Marcel,.

Thanks for pointing out these problems. We have made a few improvements wrt. support iPad in the last version of the adventure. Could you update and let me know how it goes?

  • Is it possible to migrate ESXi host between data centers, if so please provide a brief not

    Hi friends,

    1. is it possible to migrate ESXi host between data centers, if so please provide a brief walking distance.

2 can we perform vMotion and Storage vMotion while ESXi is turned on.

    3. is it possible to extend the VMDK disk while it integrates snapshots in it.

    Best regards,

    Sirot Vijay

Yes the vmotion and svmotion works but one by one.

1 - vmotion is posssible to power on State, but you can't svmotion the vm simultaneously. The storage will remain same

2 svmotion is also possible to power on the State, but you cannot vmotion virtual machine simultaneously. the host will remain the same.

3 vmotion and svmotion is possible together when the vm is off power. the host and storage can be changed simultaneously on this State.

  • The traffic between a host ESXi and vCenter Server is secure?
