Computer freezes at Windows stops.

Sometimes when I go to shut down my computer during the day and I click the turn of my computer, the process is stuck at Windows stops, so I have to manually turn off the computer by holding down the power button.  I don't know what the problem is or how to fix so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Start, run, cmd, type chkdsk c: /f /r, and then press ENTER.

This may take an hour or two depending on the size of your hard drive, you should first defrag also.

When you run from cmd prompt, you will be asked if you want to run it at the next reboot, (volume cannot be mounted), type Y for Yes.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check

  • Computer, freeze, and Microsoft Security Essentials scan stop on this file each time: c:\Program HP Imaging\bin\hpqthb08.exe

My computer, one almost four years, Dell Inspiron 1454 with Windows XP Pro, continues to freeze when left to sit for a few minutes. Also, I discovered that when I run the Microsoft Security Essentials quick or full scan analyzing stops on the file HP Digital Imaging mentioned above several times.  I was wondering if this means something on the reason why the computer freezes up. Also, Windows Live Mail continually lets me know that it is "not responding." Yet once, I guess it's because of the freezing problem not Windows Live Mail is the cause. I do not know.  I made some different system using different dates restorations and who has not solved anything so far. I use the computer during a run without problem, but if I have a cup of coffee, for example, I have to restart when I return. Sometimes, the slider moves, sometimes not, but no matter the computer is unresponsive after that I took a break or just out of the blue when I try to open an e-mail or another task. I guess it's time for a Mac, but I thought I'd see if anyone has some ideas on how to solve this problem. Thank you!

    Hello, Olivia,.

This problem is probably due to an outdated HP Digital Imaging monitor. Even if you decided to switch to a Mac, the question may still popup because you have installed hpqthb08.exe.

Fortunately, there is an update that you can apply.

    SP26427. EXE

  • How can I stop my computer freezes during disk defragment?

When you try to run Disk Defragmenter, my pc freezes when defragmentation is 3%, on the c:\windows\system32\wucltui.dll.MUI file. I downloaded the software Microsoft Fix It, which stopped the computer freezes during the compression of the files old during a cleaning of the drive ("compress old files" isn't even an option more when you do a disk cleanup). The problem was significantly higher than earlier, gel when there are too many programs running. I did a lot of work on it, trying to return to normal, and although he is capable of multi - load again once, I still can't free space with the Disk Defrag. I tried almost everything... boot in safe mode and the closure of all firewalls and updates, I tried to disable restoring the system and running defragmentation again. I ran 'chkdsk' nothing works. I downloaded the registry cleaners, cleaned manually files unnecessary and much more. I don't know what more can be done, but I need the defrag to work. PLEASE HELP ME!

I just discovered this problem on my HP Compaq husbands, don't know where it comes from! When I analyse it says there is no need to be defraged, and I'm not about to reinstall XP! He has 65% of free space, the only thing it's really about that is to play poker on NLOP and watching junk sports! NLOP works with microphone$ .net framework and they have just updated their site, could it have caused the problem?

Can someone please provide a better answer?

I just lost my entire C: drive on my desk and had to take, now it's and drive E:! Something to do with "XP Media Center Edition" that he made, personally I think it's inept technology who didn't know what he was doing because he forgot to install my Audio drivers and he's happy that I had saved some files is from another, so I installed them myself! Mine is a Dell.

What would cause this happens in the first place?

    EDIT:

    Just did
Chkdsk, I did some reading more and it worked, I now switched to this place so far!

C;\windows\sec710.dll & C:\windows\imubuhuwonezonus.dll, I get this "error loading, be found", the computer freezes? Can't find these files?
A restored and does not work. A ran malware and viruses. These files are not listed.

If I leave my computer for a while it freezes. When you click Ctrl, Alt, DEL, it goes to my security window.

Do the first, launch scans, then if your computer is always bad conduct, we'll fix it.

It is sometimes easy to get rid of the error message by doing something like disable the startup item in msconfig (if you can still find), but I suggest you fix the problem and difficulty not only the symptom of the problem by simply deleting the startup message.

I would also not recommend you start digging in the registry to try to find the startup item and remove it unless you have a backup of your system or at least a backup of your registry, because there is no 'Cancel' or 'quit without saving changes' option in regedit.  If you make a mistake, that's all.
These ideas relieve 'rapid' and sometimes risky of the symptom if they not even work at all, but they can't actually solve the problem.  Also, I'd be suspicious of ideas that begin with the words "try."  You don't need to try things, you need to fix things.  You don't need to try ideas that might work, you must do something that will always work all the time.
Here are the detailed instructions that protect you and solve your problem in the 'right' way.
There is very little. DLL files that should be loaded from the C:\WINDOWS folder and is not one of them.
A "Cannot find...". ', ' Failed to start..., "Could not load..." ». "Might not work... "" Cannot run ""error loading... ". "or"specific module could not be found"message at startup is usually related to the malware that has been configured to run at startup, but the referenced file has been removed after a malware scan, leaving behind him a startup item or the registry entry pointing to a file that does not exist.
It might be a removal of malicious software or an application not installed.  The entry may have a curious looking name since it was probably generated at random when the malware was installed. If you search your system for the referenced file, you may not find.
Windows attempts to load this file but cannot locate because the file has been deleted for most probably during an analysis of the malware. However, an orphaned associate of remainders of startup parameter or registry entry and tells Windows to load the file when you start or connection.
So you should delete the referenced entry Windows stop trying to load or run the file. It may or may not be included in the registry, but you can find it.  Autoruns (see below) you get the elements no matter where it is.
If you just locate and uncheck the item in msconfig, which disables the element but does not remove the reference to the element of false starting your computer.   The msconfig program is not a Startup Manager, that's a troubleshooting tool.  Disabling things in msconfig to put an end to the messages and think that your problem is solved is short-sighted and leave behind him a sloppy XP configuration.  Just disable the display of a start-up error message should not count as a 'solution' to the problem.
If you are comfortable editing the registry, you can find and remove the reference directly from there or remove it using a popular third-party tool called Autoruns.  The problem can always be found in the registry well.
Before making any changes to your registry by hand or with third-party tools, don't forget to first make a backup of the registry
. There is no cancellation or exit without saving the option in regedit.
Here is a link to a popular registry backup tool:
You can also use the Autoruns to find the element of start remains little matter where he's hiding.  Autoruns does not install anything on your computer.  It will display all startup locations where the reference may be then you can turn it off or remove it completely.  Here is the download link for Autoruns:
Run Autoruns.exe and wait that he at the end of the filling of the list of entries.
When the Autoruns is finished scanning your system, it will say "Ready" in the lower left corner.  Autoruns can be a little intimidating to first if you have never seen it before because it displays a lot of information
.  You are really interested only a few sections.
The problem is usually to start the system or the user startup entries, then click the connection tab and see if the startup item is there.
Scroll through the list and look for a boot entry associated files in the error message.
If you can't find on the connection tab, look in any tab.
You can also click file, search to search for logon, or any tab for all or part of the name of the element.
Right-click on the offending entry and choose Remove.  If you are not sure what it is, you can simply disable, restart and if the problem is resolved and then remove the offending entry.  If you don't see it in Autoruns, you may edit the registry and remove the item from your startup folder it.  Autoruns shall display the same information however.
Given that you had or have an infection, followed with this:
Perform scans for malware, and then fix any problems:
Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:
    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
They can be uninstalled later if you wish.
Restart your computer and solve the outstanding issues.

This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.

Refer to these discussions because many more excellent advice however don't forget to check your antivirus
programs, the main drivers and BIOS update and also solve the problems with the cleanboot method
    first.

  • My computer is running "Windows XP stop critique.wav" sound every 10 seconds.

My computer is running "Windows XP stop critique.wav" sound every 10 seconds for the last 8 days.  Window XP SP3.  I spent 1-1/2 hours will dell workstation support and 1-1/2 hours with my computer work (shot as a favor to my personal computer) and they find nothing, MacAfee installed, updated several full scan virus.  A ran Malwarebyte s multiple crawls - nothing.  Kaspersky lab - nothing.  Computer work ran a vrius start-up detector and nothing.  No error log is generated.  And two technicians stop various folders in the Task Manager and NOTHING he did stop.  I was sent a disc of reinstalling XP SP3 Dell and I did a repair XP complete with no fix. Technician COMPUTER checked a bunch of stuff and thought it was "related to a driver."  Regardless of what is the cause, how do I find the problem and fix it.   Thank you

    @GarySibley:

Thanks for the comments, and I'm happy that you found.  Although I'm not surprised that an msiInstaller error could have caused a "critical stop" but I never thought that he would deliver the error never seconds.

    @JudsonWelcher:

I suggest you also check your event viewer to find errors msiinstaller.  I've seen other posts where a sound "critical stop" appears to be linked to these errors (but like I said above, not continuous repetitions of the error).

There is no easy way that I know to track this sort of thing.  Before you start the method of 'Clean boot' or start using the process monitor, open the sound control panel applet and scroll down to check that Windows XP stop critique.wav has not been assigned to certain events in addition (or instead of) a real stop critical Windows.
