Configuration of the network hosts 4ESXi

network.jpgHello

I have 4 ESXi servers and each server a 4x1Go NIC. What is the best practice when it comes to setting up the network on that.

This is a good configuration:

Physical switches: here I configure ports on physical 4-port trunking. ?

Configure the virtual switch tagging. I create 2 vSwitches and one switch for vmotion and console a vSwitch for production

On the vSwitch, I guess I should create 3 groups of ports (console, vmotion, production). Should I create each one on the VLANs separated, or

I could use 1 vlan for console and vmotion and 1 vlan for the production?

And how do I configure the nic teaming inside the vSwitches? I mean you have a lot of solutions such as network failure detection, load balancing and so on...

I also noticed some active active say on network cards, and some say active liabilities?

For more information, the storage is connected with SAN Fibre. I suppose that us will run between 15-25 vms

All good catches of screens or documentation that shows the connection created in step 1 to the last would be good.

Hi Andreas,

your configuration looks fine to me. the configuration of VLAN depends on your condition.  and come to nic teaming it depends on the number of active uplinks if you have two active uplinks its ok (I mean you ask next set active assets not kept by assets and the other in standby (passive)).

the NICTeaming - options, you can refer to http://www.vmwarearena.com/2014/02/vsphere-distributed-switch-part-19.html of load balancing

  • JOINT-2: Tips for the initial configuration of the network?

    Hello team:

I was asked to do a very basic configuration of a whole new JOINT-2 on a CAT6500. According to the documentation, once in the Supervisor´s CLI, I run a 'session' command to the location where the METHOD.

Once, I follow the wizard to add the IP, mask and gateway. Having this configured, the management interface of module´s should be visible from the rest of the network, but I do not see how this happens, because the module must use one of VLAN switch´s and I haven´t found how it is configured.

Question: how will this link JOINT itself for layer 3 engine switch´s? I don't see how its layer 2 will correspond to any VLAN available in the host LAN switch...

Any help will be greatly appreciated

I think what you need to add a command on the 6500 that puts management of JOINT-2 port in a vlan individual.  For example:

intrusion detection module 9 management access port - vlan 101

This places the management for the joint-2 card port 9 slot vlan 101.  The host IP that you set on the map of JOINT-2 itself then be valid for that vlan.

  • How to set up/configuration of the network on virtual servers?

We just bought the license for vSphere with two processors. I will put up at least three virtual servers on that host computer. Can someone point me to an instruction step by step on how to set up the network so that each guest operating system will have their own unique IP address and/or MAC address? The server is an HP Proliant DL380 G7 with two NIC standard more map of the ILO.

    Any suggestion is appreciated.

MAC address of the virtual machine is generated by ESXi host when you first power on the virtual machine and the IP address will be assigned by an existing DHCP server or you can configure it manually. Regardless of the implementation of a server as a virtual or physical machine, you generally EF static IP settings to a server system.

  • Configuration of the network card for my installation

    Hello

Host machine: Windows-7, wireless, wired network card network card

The computer invited: Oracle Linux 6.1

I want to install oracle on my guest computer database and access it from the host machine. I do not particularly like about sharing this database with all other machines in the network (other than the host and all guest computers created on this server).

What network card configuration would work better for me?

My host computer is a portable computer. I plan on using this laptop at home, as well as the work. At home I have access to the wired network and wireless (DHCP) while at work I have access only to wireless (DHCP) network.

I tried to adjust my VM as NAT & Host-Only network. My VM guest Gets the IP address but I cannot ping the virtual machine to the host using machine VM name. If I use the IP address of the virtual machine to ping, it works.

    Thank you

    Yogesh

    Welcome to the community,

with the requirements you mention, I would recommend a host-only configuration. Due to lack of DNS resolution, you can configure the host with a fixed IP address in the Host-Only range and add the Oracle VM to the hosts of your Windows system file.

Use a fixed IP address between 192.168.x.2 and... 127, above this addresses are used by DHCP.

  • Configuration of the network on New Installation

We recently expanded our install ESX and now would like to implement vMotion with our vCenter Server. I'm just trying to wrap my head around a good network configuration. Each server vsphere has 8 shared between the 2 cards network cards. Here's what I thought where a config, I need just comments if this configuration is good or not:

    • 0 - Service Console (on LAN) interface

    • 1 - VM LAN Access (on LAN) interface

    • Interface 2 - iSCSI (on dedicated iSCSI Switch)

    • Interface 3 - VMKernel (on dedicated iSCSI Switch)

This configuration duplicate the second NIC 4 ports for failover or load balancing. This configuration works, or what I have to do anything? I went through a lot of technical documents and that is the conclusion I came to, but I want to make sure I'm not in the wrong lane before getting everything that the installer.

vCenter has no access to the iSCSI network unless it has an iSCSI HBA or you will use an initiator of the host of VC software to access its own iSCSI storage - I

case of the vmotion netwrok that there not to ride on the same network segment iSCSI - it will be enough to find on its own isolated network segment.

According to this document, I should get a screen to set network configuration which I did not. I thought that it would be not only important to configure the network so I worry when I don't have it.

Didn't get what? What stage are you talking?

What is the entry that you have in the file/etc/hosts? What is the output of "ifconfig - a"?

But after installing Linux, I couldn't connect to the Internet. Someone told me about a successful Oracle Linux applications, installation you must have internet working!

That's not true, and you don't need to have an internet connection for Oracle EBS work. However, if you install on a virtual machine, you should be able to access the internet from the computer asked if the host computer is connected to the internet.

  • Need help with the configuration of the network

    Hi all

I'm confused about the installation of small for networking

The scenario is I have VLAN 1 and 2 VLANS configured on the same switch. VLAN 1 is on ports say 1-10 and VLAN 2 is on Ports 11-20. Now ESX server is connected to port 1 in VLAN 1.

Two VIRTUAL networks are allowed to talk to each other. On OS the comments residing on the ESX Server, it will accept the IP address of the subnet to VLAN2 if ESX is not connected to VLAN 2 physcially.

I know linking the physcially to VLAN 2 ESX Server will succeed, but this can be a possiblily, wont switch be smart enough to talk internally to two VIRTUAL networks. BTW, the switch is a dell connect 5448 switch.

I've attached a picture to show the configuration of my ESX laboratory machine. vSwitch0 contains the service console and vmkernel on the first network on the host port. vSwitch1 contains two VLAN with ID 206 and 208 on the second network port. The name I gave (Labb and server) is what identifies these VLANS when you set up a guest vm networking later. If you are unsure about the ESX networking, then it might be best to try this outside hours of office or on a separate machine. If you change the physical or virtual switching configurations you may interrupt the virtual machines (especially if of data warehouses using an iSCSI or NFS) so be careful.

    Hi etaf,.

I guess the short answer is: Yes, the problem with the software and the 3.0 Port.

The long answer with a possible work around is as follows: first of all, the software looks for minimum requirements. Because the software is older, he doesn't know what a 3.0 port. You are right when you say that it should work since you do not use the USB and use wireless instead, but this is not the case.

There is something we can try, but I can't guarantee it will work. I thought first we could connect a USB cable and run the software made to force the software to see the USB port, but then the software wouldn't even get far enough because you can't plug the cable to the most later in the installation.

My second thought and most promising suggestion is to connect the USB cable (although we do normally not until the software prompts us to) and use the installation wizard HP Print to get the insteaad of software to use the CD or download from the printer driver page. Still, I can't say with certainty that it works, but I don't see why it would not be worth a try.

If it works, and we get the software installed you can convert the USB connection to a wireless connection using the software. Fingers crossed! Download and run the with the following link. Printer HP install wizard for Windows

If this does not work, or you don't want to bother with it (not worth trying), I might consider getting a new model of the printer. You can even call HP. They might be able to offer a discount on a newer model. If you are in the Canada, U.S. dial 800-474-6836 or you can Contact HP worldwide.

  • OfficeJet pro 8600 + scan if there is no configuration for the network folder

The printer is wireless to my router and I connect to a computer connected to the router with an ethernet cable.  The computer is running Windows 7SP1 Home Premium 64.

During the original installation of the printer 3 days ago, I used the wizard set up 'scan to a network folder' a record 'scans public '.  He created the 'profile' correctly and worked well the first time I scanned (I scanned the 3 or 4 times with different tweaks to experiment).  However the next day it no longer worked error on the printer was, 'could not connect to \\Computername\Public scan. Check that the remote computer is on. "Obviously, the computer was on, some communication problems only happened from one day to the next day, he was sitting unattended.  Hmmmmm.  Note that the option "Scan to Computer" works very well, so communication is simply no "scan to network folder" option and I really want to scan to a network folder.

I went in a private "Scans" folder on my account and created a share as 'DadsScans', creating permissions and following all the tips I've come across so far.  Then I tried many times with the wizard to create a new configuration in the profile and all have failed and yes I found the network and turned on file sharing.  Also remember that it worked fine the first night?

I tried to enter the local path to the folder (C:\users\dad\My analysis) with a share name (DadsScans), but the error message after choosing the option "test and save" was, "error.  Your printer cannot connect to the server.  Press 'Back' to correct the address and the name of the server.  Setting is not saved. »

I then tried to enter the share name directly in the path of the network folder, like "\\computername\DadsScans", but the error was "error.  Your printer cannot connect to the server.  Press 'Back' to correct the address and the name of the server.  Make sure that network discovery and file sharing are turned on... "Note, I also tried,"\\computer Address\DadsScans IP"and got the same error.

Finally, I disabled my firewall and my anti-virus in real time and tried again and got the same error messages.

Once again, my network discovery and file sharing are on and it worked fine the first time I've used suggesting that everything was fine.  What happened during the night, so that the printer and computer sitting idle?  I've changed NOTHING!  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Well well, after several hours of attempts to solve the problem, the 'light bulb went on!  The night after that I configured the "scan to network folder" option, we had some difficulties with our network so I reset our modem and DSL router.  Who cleaned the problems of network with devices.  It is apparently broke something with the communications between the scanner and the computer.  A simple re-start the computer tonight and wa - la, the original public scan I configure worked again and I could create new profiles of "scanning to '!

  • Access to a virtual computer within a NAT configuration on the network

Is it supported or not supported methods to access a virtual machine which is within an instance of fusion on the network?

For example, say that my VM is 192.168.168.34

I can understand which port is used for NAT translation somehow (i.e.i 4598) and then launch access to this virtual machine across the network using 192.168.168.34:4598?

Otherwise, any other ideas on how to make this work?

    Hello

You can redirect the single ports between the host and the VM.

So if you want access to the X application on your virtual machine, you need to know on which port that the application is listening and forward this port from your host to your virtual machine.

There was formerly a nat.conf file, located in Library/Preferences/VMware Fusion/vmnet8/in older versions of Fusion, where you can set up port forwarding. Don't know if it's always the right path, as I have no mac here.

  • Please advice on the Configuration of the network and possibilities.

    Hello

I have a small office at home (me, my wife and 2 employees) and I need to improve my network. It's simply not up to the task.

    Which must be supported:

    • 5 PC desktop
    • 2 notebooks private
    • 2 network printers
    • XBOX
    • NAS
    • Many mobile devices
    • ADSL internet connection
    • Connection internet optical fiber (glass)
    • System network audio (Sonos)

Right now I use a combination of routers/switches of different brands, and I want to spend it again all devices, all from a brand. That's what I want to do:

    • A wired router to handle the traffic internet ADSL and fiber
    • Several access points wireless (1 device with multiple SSID) or multiple devices: a client, a desk, one for home, one for...
    • Home network of offices on a separate subnet from the network
    • Router must be able to act as an OpenVPN client and tunnel specific IP addresses / ports LAN from the intranet to the VPN service provider (it of to hide my IP address, mainly for private use, not for torrenting, right to privacy)
    • Currently, there is no need to be able to Dáil from outside the office, this could change in the future

I was thinking to buy the following:

    • LRT224
    • 2 * LAPAC1750 (since the home + office is large enough)

I reuse a switch 8 ports business grade, no need to replace it.

    My setup is as follows:

ADSL Modem (bridge mode)-\ /-LAPAC1750 for office and clients (2 SSID)

    > - LRT224 -

    Fiber connection-/ |       \--LAPAC1750 for House- + - OpenVPN connection

    |                                |

Switch 8 ports (company) + - direct connection

After reading the manual for both devices, I think that the wireless access points are more then adequate for the task. However, I have my doubts about the LRT224. Yes, it has dual WAN, so perfect for the routing of traffic ADSL or fiber. But the OpenVPN part is not what I need. I need something that is offered by the tomato/DD-WRT flashes for all-in-one routers: OpenVPN client build-in and able to route specific traffic through the VPN tunnel.

My question is: is this, I want to install, possible with devices metntioned, including a tunnel (via AirVPN) OpenVPN implementation to route the traffic/specific devices through, and multiple wireless access points.

I hope some of you can help me here. I won't buy an all-in-one wireless router, since a problem with these devices lies between offten, and I like the look and feel of Linksys devices.

    Thanks in advance.

    With sincere friendships.

    Sjoerd

Edit: fixed formatting and some typo

LRT routers don't tunnel VPN vendors like the Open Source router firmwares.
