Conversion of ThinkPad-to-access point

Hi, I will travel to Asia in a few weeks and I intend to get a local on USB 3 G dongle and 3G for my X120e data plan (I don't have a WWAN card). I recently discovered asoftware called Thinkpad to Hotspot converter, by DGTSoft. Here is the link: http://www.dgtsoft.com/laptop-to-hotspot-converter/thinkpad.htm. It costs $30, beyond the trial period. I would buy this sw to make my laptop a hotspot for my smartphone and so use the smartphone as if a wifi connection normal, wherever I am. Does anyone have experience doing this with a Thinkpad or any other? The description of the software speaks LAN as the main connection for the laptop on the web, but I am interested in the use of a dongle 3G instead of LAN. Will this work? It should be, shouldn't it? (I sent people to DSTSoft, but no response yet). The experts on this forum who can help? Thank you very much.

See you soon!

Hi ga0fela0!

Windows 7 does it for free. Try this:

  • The Access Points of 1142 conversion of autonomous to LWAPP

    Hi all

I'm trying to convert 5 1142 APs to LWAPP... they came as autonomous APs out of the box, but the client decided to go the unified road, so I need to convert them to finish the job.  I tried to use that tool to upgrade to ver 3.4 and it say that the AP 1142 is not supported by the upgrade tool

Is there another way to do this?

    Thanks in advance!

Console or SSH to your access point and enter the following command:

    Archive Download-sw tftp://x.x.x.y/c1140-rcvk9w8-tar.124-21a.JA.tar

x.x.x.y = the address of your tftp server.

just like the upgrade to any newer device of Cisco. Of course you need a running tftp server, ect.,...

    Good luck to you.

  • to convert 1142N AP autonomous lightweight access point

    Hello

I have 4 1142N access points are all points of light access. Because I don't have a controller, I need to convert to standalone AP.

I went through document cisco 1142, where it is mentioned that "the access point 1142 doesn't have the default IP address"

I know procedure to convert offline in which I need to connect ap to the TFTP 10.0.0.1 with the ip address by default, but as for 1142, we do not have the default ip address. What is the procedure to convert offline?

I have to assign a pool in one of the local switch and connect the ap to these switches with vlan, so she will receive the IP address of the DHCP server?

But how can we without default IP address? I wonder about this...

If I did not turn on where I can assign pool dhcp... what should I do?

Please suggest me to convert 1142 standalone AP ap...

I will be thankful to get the right answer...

    Hi Vinod,

    Here's the resolution...

The image that is on the device's LWAPP, not the autonomous... If you want to use the AP in stand-alone mode, then the image must be W7...  It's...

    C1140-k9w7 - tar.124 - 21A .JY .tar not c1140-rcvk9w8 - tar.124 - 23c.JA.tar

Please feel free to download any image from the below link and perform the conversion of image LWAPP to stand alone...

    the methos to convert is...

Download TFTPd32 of google and install it on your PC... point of the image that you downloaded on the TFTP server.

Connect a cable ethernet between your notebook and AP... both should be on the same subnet... Connect a cable from the console and access the hyperterminal console with the command... Make sure that you are able to ping the PC and AP and vice versa!

    AP > en

AP #debug lwapp console cli or debugging console cli capwap

    T AP #config

    AP (confg) int FA 0

AP(confg-IF) ip addr (same subnet as the laptop)

    End AP(confg-IF)

    Force - reload DOWNLOAD - AP #archieve sw / overwrite tftp: / /.

    Force - reload DOWNLOAD - AP #archieve sw / overwrite tftp: / /<10.0.0.5>/c1140-k9w7-tar.124-21a.JY.tar

The above command will do it for you!

Let me know if that answers your question...

These access points are autonomous access points and the customer is tired to make individual changes by access points.  I suggested that the new access point be base controller, so my question; These existing access points can be upgraded to LWAPP? Or do need to be replaced? Or this controller one web-based access to existing contact points and be controlled.

so my question; can these existing access point be upgraded to LWAPP? Or do they need to be replaced?
Yes, existing AP can be converted into TOUR mode with a recovery image. Here's how you can do it (note that there are several ways) http://mrncciew.com/2012/10/20/lightweight-to-autonomous-conversion/ http://mrncciew.com/2013/12/13/ap-conversion-using-mode-button/ is the good idea to get a WLC (like 2504) to manage in a simple way, rather managing them individually. See below the product bundles available. If this is the case, you will get with license 25AP 2504 for almost for free when you buy 2 x 1702. • AP 2702i as autonomous access point?

    Hi all

We bought just the AIR-CAP2702I-E-K9 a few days ago. We want to use it as a standalone AP. The problem is that the device won't be configurable somehow: "conf t" does not work, not even after a "debug console cli capwap. The fact is that the AP continues to give the following error message:

% CAPWAP-3-DHCP_RENEW: could not find WLC by using DHCP IP. Renew DHCP IP.

The fact is that we will not deploy this AP with a WLC. Is it possible or workaround to convert the CAPE based IOS in a basic stand-alone SAP version?

  • 4402 wireless controller and the 1130AG access points

I have a bunch of 1130AG (35) and 1231 points of access. I just bought a controller 4402 so I could handle these much easier access points. I currently have the offline access points, so I could control. With the wireless in the mix controller, that I have to fix these to light mode or can I leave them offline.

We know not the operating instructions so I can leave them in stand-alone mode. Most of them is in the rafters in our warehuse, and I didn't have to pull of these if I have to. If I can use them offline, how can I do that?

    Thanks much for any info!

    Dave

    Hi Dave,.

    A WLC manages autonomous APs.
So if you want to centralize the management of your APs through the WLC, you will need to convert it to light and enter them on the WLC.

To convert the lightweight access points, you can choose between several options:

    1. thanks to a specific upgrade tool that you could install on a PC:
    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/partner/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/LWAPP/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html

    2. [the most evolutionary] by WCS, with a model of migration that could apply to several APs:
    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/wireless/WCS/7.0/Configuration/Guide/7_0apcfg.html#wp1054876

    3. [not in any book] by the following steps:
3 (a) download the CEC lwapp recovery image and store it on a TFTP server.
3 (b) Telnet to the stand-alone PA and issuing the following command:
    Archive Download-sw / overwrite/reload tftp: / // [lwapp recovery image file path]

As a general recommendation, before to convert the lightweight access points, you can be sure that the wired infrastructure behind is ready to direct them to the WLC for recording.
It's suggestions explained in the link on the above option #1.

    Hope this helps,

    Fede

  • Help AIR-LAP521-G-E-K9 wireless access point

    Hello everyone,

is there anyone who can give me guidance on how to configure an access point wireless AIR-LAP521-G-E-K9 offline? I tried to connect to a standard 1 GB switch, feed it with an IP via DHCP, it responds to the PING, but when it comes to detect in the CCA (3.1), it says unable to connect without even asking username and/or password. Try to connect to it via HTTP or HTTPS does not work either.

Perhaps someone could explain to me what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance.

    Stefano.

    Stefano,

The 521 AP series can operate in light or autonomous mode. If your AP is currently the light image above we can convert by using tftp. (I suspect it does, as shown in light AIR - LAP number while AIR - AP is generally self-contained)

The best way to check is to check the details of neighbor of cdp for the version of the software AP (or connect to the console of the AP and issue a 'show version').

If the software has 'k9w7' in the name, which is autonomous. If she has "k9w8" then it is light. When operating in light you will be not able to telnet/ssh or go to the web page of AP.

To convert your autonomous access point, please follow the procedure described here:

  • My Airport Time Capsule can act as a WIRELESS access point

    Hello.

I brought a Time Capsule with my Mac Pro. It worked well since yesterday.

I have set up the time Capsule as a WIFI, bypass at my local network access point. There is a router (cable) works at home.

It's my Mac Pro AirPort Utility and my iPhone, my Time Capsule is displayed with an exclamation point saying "device not found". I can't connect to the disk on this subject by afp share, or smb. Time Machine function is gone too. He failed trying to connect to the share drive from another computer connected to the time Capsule by cable network.

But at the same time, WiFi works well.

I tried to recycle energy. Sharing disk will be available. But if I start the Time Machine backup, it will not be a few seconds.

    Any idea?

    Thank you.

There are several posts here related the issue.

Luckily, you have set up your new Time Capsule for Back to My Mac (BTMM)?

If so, the 'temporary' solution is to delete/disable the option of the CCMM, as follows:

    • Run the AirPort Utility.
    • Select the base and then station, select change.
    • On the tab of the Base Station, go back to the section of my Mac at the bottom of the window.
    • If you have entries here, select it and click then the minus sign "-" button to remove it.
    • Click on update and allow the base station restart.

If you have not enabled CCMM, we have other options for you to try.

  • Time Capsule bridge and access point?

    Hello

I have a question about the network wireless of my TC. Our provider has installed a new router. These router can not work as bridge, telephone and TV are also connected to this router. Because 2 wifi networks do not work, I wonder what is the best set-up for the network? The Capsule is connected to the router by ethernet. It is configured as a gateway. Before I used the TC to connect to internet. Now, I have disabled the wi - fi function and use the ISP connection. It looks good, only backups are a little slow now.

-What is the best configuration for the TC in an existing network? So that I can put it off the wireless of the TC or the ISP router: can I use the TC-wifi (create a new network) or wifi existing ISP router to connect with wireless devices?

-Do I lose speed when I'm with 2 devices on my network: TC as the ISP as a router and Access Point.

(I always thought that 1 unit for router and access point is the best configuration.)

-Are faster backup copies using the TC wireless or it does not matter when I backup on the wireless ISP?

Some maybe stupid questions, but thanks in advance. Greetings.

Because 2 wifi networks do not work

Many people think that this is the case... but this isn't so.

You can use several wireless networks... all attached to the same router. There is enough bandwidth available in the channels wireless for the operation of 3 different wireless networks nearby each other... and using 5 GHz adds much more.

The Capsule is connected to the router by ethernet. It is configured as a gateway. Before I used the TC to connect to internet. Now, I have disabled the wi - fi function and use the ISP connection. It looks good, only backups are a little slow now.

The configuration of TC in bridge is correct.

Do not turn off the TC wireless... Provide a different name for the ISP wireless router and connect your computer... then you can get internet and make backups on the TC without overloading the ISP router wireless.

-What is the best configuration for the TC in an existing network? If I disable the wireless of the TC or the ISP router:

Turn on Wi - Fi in both.

A physical configuration, it is recommended to have say separation of 1 M (3 feet) between the ISP router and the TC to a min. But it would be even better to have the TC at near the Mac who performs backups TM and related to the ISP router with ethernet.

  • Use WAN connected airport Time Capsule as a wireless access point

I had to replace a failed 4 Gen Time Capsule. I tried to install a new Gen 5 airport TimeCapsule via WAN and set up the airport to act as a wireless access point. It is installed in an area of my house with wireless coverage. In the network of AirPort Utility Mode section, I chose "extend a wireless network. The TC is restarted, I get an error message cannot find the intended wireless network.

    What I lack?

"Extend a wireless network" is a parameter that is only used if the time Capsule need to connect to another router from Apple with the help of a Wi-Fi connection.

You use Ethernet to connect, you must use the parameter to "create a wireless network. Use the same wireless network name and the same password as your "primary" router
