Dell XPS 18 overheats and stops

Hi guys. I have a Dell xps 18 who has recently developed a problem. With or without overloading the processor temperature starts randomly on the rise and the machine stops at about 57 to 62 degrees. Sometimes it's very good and sometimes it keeps it doing back to back. My computer has the replacement motherboard i3. The original has stopped charging the battery (plugged in, not not supported message) so I bought a motherboard replaced about 8 months ago. It has good cpu paste and everything worked fine until recently. Even he stops when it is in the BIOS. I was wondering, is it than 60 degrees is a dangerous temperature that is forcing the closure of the motherboard? The idle temp is about 30 to 40 degrees, then it suddenly starts to go up until 60, then dies. He does especially when is overload (no game, some software open), but still it goes up sometimes when he's just sitting there with nothing running in the background. I have to go on eBay new fan buy my second replacement card mother now lol? Any suggestion? I like my XPS 18 and it has served me well but have these serious problem began to really put me off it. Thank you very much.

just an update on my problem with heat. the card mother ew (i3 US$ 50) arrived and installed a few weeks, I have been using and test the DEll XPS 18 heavily for the past few weeks without any problem so far. the operating temperature is 49 c (use slow and light) to 60 ° c (very busy) but now the motherboard stop no more. I also decided to use an additional quantity of thermal paste and I think the fan is working a lot quieter and less now. My problem was a faulty motherboard and then at the end second MB less than a year. I wonder when I will return here and announce that I am ready for a third replacement card mother lol

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello

Of course, the cooling modules can be replaced.

According to your message, you are not familiar with these things one so you should get in touch with a local ASP (authorized service provider) who could order a cooling right and compatible module and could replace it.
In addition the new thermal grease which is placed between the CPU and cooling modules must be added and renewed.

  • Satellite A500-026 overheats and stops during the game

Hey guys, any help would be appreciated.

My 026 has recently started to overheat and stopping at random during video games. I can't even run TF2 to learn more, then one hour unless he suddenly died on me. It is never used for this months of use.

I can assume there is a problem with my video card. I tried to download drivers to Toshibas site and the latest versions of Nvidia without change. I've already booked a Mobilecare service, I wanted to just evaluate what might be the possible problems.

    Hello

Maybe this problem of high temperature of s.
High temperature causes a closing down in order to protect the equipment against damage.
But the question is why the temperature increases to critical level?
One of the reasons could be a page nvidia graphics card driver. Such driver does contain protection against overheating. Therefore, use the driver of Toshiba page.
    I see that you did
Well, the laptop seems to be a new a .so usually dust should not be a problem and fans should work properly

A tip; Please make sure that you have enough free space around the laptop to ensure good air circulation.

However, I recommend asking an ASP in your country for verification may be what he s hardware related issue.

  • NC6230 overheats and stops quickly

If anyone can help please if I don't spend any more money on it. LOL I have a NC6230 which overheats and stops after half a minute of the kind.  I went on EBAY and bought two other boards and I have the same problem.  Thinking that I couldn't have 2 boards bad save question I bought a curcuit Board.  Same question.  I tried another treatment well known with the same results.  I tried swapping memory without success.  All these tests were conducted with the hard disk without OS power supply.  I then turned on it only to batteries and it remained running.  I have it turned off and restarted with an external keyboard to check the BIOS and it has overheated and turned off in 30 seconds.  No idea what else to try.  Is there a defect in the Board that gives too much power to the Commission, causing the closure?  Is this a defect of this Council over time?

    Thanks for any help

    Hi all

I have what I believe, it is a solution to this problem... even if I'm still skeptical.  I replaced the circuit boad and the processor with known good parts and still overheat.  I was ready to give up and throw the jury when I thought... Why not swap the work laptop heat sink.  I thought... Isn't it the radiator... It is electric and mechanical part.  But to have no doubt I swapped it out and VIOLA without overheating.  Then I thought it was a problem with too much thermal paste, so I cleaned the old and the right processor and reapplied thermal paste... with caution.  Overheated.

I'm leaving the base or the only radiator would be defective and cause overheating?  All my tests point this way.

    Thanks for any input

  • Zv6000 overheats and stops

My ZV6100 began to overheat and shut down. I noticed that the cooling fans don't come to the computer gets hot. However, after overheating and stop if I wait a few minutes and restart the computer two fans will turn on and remain lit. So it's like that, when I start the computer and its cold cooling fans lights up for a short period (at startup), then turns off. The computer warms up and then gets hot the fans don't come as they should to cool down. Any ideas?

Try a hard reset of the bios, power down, unplug the power cord, remove the battery, press and hold power for 30 seconds, insert the battery and connect the power cord, put under tension, see if anything changes.

  • Dell XPS 13 2015 and update of Samsung 950 PRO m2

When I ordered my Dell XPS 13 May of this year, I ordered it with a disc of 256 GB knowing that I would upgrade eventually to a disk of 512 GB once the new discs of NVMe m2 were out. I didn't do well capture the variations in m2 and when I pre-ordered the 512 GB Samsung 950 PRO NVMe I expected to pop in and go. No luck. I should have known that they would not make it as simple as that... :-(

The drive is compatible physically of course, but has the "M" key edge connector, while the drive I pulled the connector edge key "B & M. I am running the BIOS A05 on the Dell, but he can't see the PRO 950 drive at BIOS level. The integrated test tool indicates "no hard disk". If this seems to be a BIOS problem.

Anyone have any ideas? Is it a question of Dell, he argues with a new BIOS update? Or it will never work because the XPS 13 is not compatible with this generation of pilots of M2? Looks like I need to go back to what happens, but if Dell eventually allows, I may buy it again.

If it won't work, any suggestions on a 512 GB drive that works? Samsung XP941 or XP951 will work? An idea about the difference between the two (the XP951 is $50 + more).

UPDATE: this player is not compatible with the Dell XPS 13 and probably will never be because of energy consumption (5-7 watts). You just don't want a storage device that power in your laptop. The Samsung SM951 512 GB is the best player at the moment.

For the record, I was able to get the 950 is recognized Pro to install windows 10 on simply turn on the legacy startup options.  Once turned on my windows install USB he saw as installable media.  After installing the drive had an EFI boot sector, so I was able to disable legacy startup.

  • Dell Dimension E521 starts and stops on its own at random times... a lot of attempts to repair/restore without success! What's next!

Well, it's a bit of a long story, so I'll try to make it as short and easy as possible.

My grandmother had the Dell Dimension E521 for some time in December of ' 06.  She had filled the C: drive with a bunch of junk and mandated the bureau with many useless shortcuts.  Later in November 10, she told me he had begun to stop and start on his own time at random, so I tried to do what I could with antivirus scan (AVG Free Edition), remove applications and unnecessary programs and try to demand for system recovery short.  While that makes the computer run faster, it still started and closed on itself.  His house has only the dial-up connection (which is almost impossible to update anything), so I brought it to my house for the best connection around 01/01/11 (9 days ago).

I could update the AVG Free Edition and Windows updates, and it found and cleared, a Trojan Virus.  The Dell still started and shut down on its own.  My next step was to use the disc re - install for Vista Home Basic 32-bit.  He old programs saved in a folder "Windows.old" on the C: drive and completely re-installed everything back to the original.  After I checked in the "Windows.old" folder and recorded something she didn't lose (such as images and videos), I deleted as much as I could out of it.  The only thing I could not remove from it was 4 'driver files '.  For a while the computer trying to run 'chkdsk' on its own seizure began, but froze in the middle of it.  He finally ended the 'chkdsk' once and didn't try again since.  It downloaded and installed updates Windows of 100 or more on its own as well.

After all, it still does the same thing he has with housing starts and shut downs.  The closure of downs occur not just in the middle of the execution of a given program; they occur at any time at random, even if I use the computer in safe mode.  She always goes through the whole stops the process with the "logging off" and "closing" legends, it is not as if the electric system is down.  The start-up occur randomly as well, even if a stop is purposely through the Start Menu or hold down the power button.  Sometimes, he's trying to start and shut down on its own several times without fully load.

Again, sorry this is so long, but I would like to know if there is anything that can be done to get this thing to CUT IT OUT because my grandmother wants as his computer back!

  • USB port - C Dell XPS 13 9350 and external storage

    Hello everyone,

I have a 3.1 USB enclosure external (Vantec Nexstar USB 3.1, model # NST - 270a 31 - BK) that I connect to the USB - C (Thunderbird 3) of my XPS 13 laptop 9350 port.  The player does not start even after using two different 3.1 USB cables.  I installed all the USB drivers and Thunderbird from the Dell Web site and active port in the BIOS, but still have no chance to get the player to run.

That's when I plug the player into a standard USB port with a USB 3.0 cable, boots road to the top and is recognized by the laptop without problem.  So if my diagnosis was made correctly, the USB box and wiring is not defective, so the problem must lie with the USB - C port.  Has anyone successfully used port USB - C to access the external storage with a bit of luck?

    See you soon,.

In another thread ("XPS 13 9350 - SSD USB C 3.1 - very unstable/not usable '-I can not add links), the following fixed my problem by using a drive HARD USB 3.0 with the Dell USB - C for HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB3.1 adapter:

... the adapter USB - C and WiFi are kind of material and power wise. If you go to the options of the advance of the WiFi adapter and change the WiFi output at 75%, this solves a lot of problems with the connection / disconnection of USB - C questions. Exit at 75% reduction does not affect your connection on wireless networks.

My HARD drive kept connect/disconnect when you use the adapter, but this correction took care of her.

  • Dell XPS 8100 PSU and GPU updates

So heads up, I've never updated a computer in this way before. I opened the box a few times to clean the old GPU and replace the old with the new GTX 260 240 when I got it, but beyond that nothing. I know that I need to upgrade my GPU, fortunately, my best friend gave me a GTX 750 Ti 2048 MB PCIe graphic card and I wonder if I could install in my XPS 8100 and already use it. I was told that in the Dell 350W POWER supply is sufficient to run it, but I'm not sure and would like to double check.

However, should I I need a new power supply, I was told that SeaSonic S12II 520 Bronze 520W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS 12V V2.91 80 PLUS BRONZE certified Active PFC power supply PSU will fit the Dell case but here a double confirmation directly from Dell forums - especially after a call with Dell technical support told me that there is no way to upgrade the PSU. There is also the modular version M12II, but it seems that the dimensions on this would mean that he did not fit into the XPS 8100?

    Ruinus

The GTX 750 Ti 2048 MB PCIe graphics card should work fine with the default power of XPS 8100.

  • New Dell XPS 8700 overheating and shutdown itself

I bought my new XPS 8700 4 days there and that's the first problem, my pc is overheating and I don't know why, I have it on my desk so no dust can damage as it have enough space around fans.

The problem is that the pc is overheating even when I do nothing, its just to put on a few sites and after some while pc crashes: the screen goes all black. The last time it happened I had the only song on YouTube and I was typing on Facebook, when suddenly the screen goes black and pc closed down, ive checked CPUID HWMonitor where I discovered that my graphics card is approximately 70-85 ° C.

Second crash is almost the same as the first, but with this difference that the pc remains powered on and just monitor the message "entering power saving mode" and can not be awake so I have to hold the start for 10 sec button to restart my PC. Im a little scared because I am sure that it will not be caused by any software just because the computer is 4 days old and I has not yet opened the case (im not sure if I can just because of the warranty)... What should I do? It is necessary to call Dell technical support or I can solve it it somehow better?

    My PC specs:

    Intel Core i7 4770 Haswell, 16 GB RAM, AMD Radeon R9 270 2 GB, SSD 32 GB + drive HARD 2000 GB 7.2 k, 8.1 Windows Pro 64 - bit

    Sorry to hear that!

If it is only a few days old, contact Dell Tech Support as soon as POSSIBLE. In the United States, you have 21 days from the date of billing (no delivery date) to request a replacement. Then contact them immediately if you want to have it replaced. Otherwise, arrange for Dell fix this one, if all goes well in your premises...

BTW: Open the case do not void the warranty.  But if you replace all of the equipment installed at the factory, Dell may ask you to reinstall the original parts, before they honor the warranty.

I hope that get you it fixed quickly!

  • Qosmio X 300 - 11W - overheats and stops

    Hello out there!

I'm sorry for the typos, I can do, this is my first topic on your forum. So here is the problem I encountered with my laptop (Qosmio X 300 - 11W). It all started with stop the engine whenever I use it more then 1 to 2 hours. I always put my laptop on the book or something so he can help the fan under the laptop somehow.

Not long ago he finally stops forevet, I could not start it more. After having taken it for laptop 3 repair specialists, final said it's the motherboard and faulty graphics card and the only thing to do is to replace, for £1300. Very unfortunately, my warranty expired in September. My question is, can I possibly extend my warranty somehow, as specialists in laptop says it's the common overheating problem with these series of laptops, if not do you recommend?

Sorry for my English, hope everything is clear, you can ask me anything you want about my laptop. Please help me and thank you very much. (Still one thing I forgot to say, the place where I bought the laptop is London, Microanvika)

    Hi donn2121,

First of all it of not possible to buy an extended warranty after the expiration of your warranty. You can only buy an extended warranty if your laptop is still under warranty.

I put t know who checked your computer laptop, but about hardware problems, you can contact an authorized service provider. Technicians can check your laptop and order all spare parts Toshiba. On the Toshiba site is a list of ASP.
I put t know how many new parts for Qosmio X 300 cost, but I think they are a little more expensive in terms of other portable because s a high-end machine with high quality parts.

By the way: have you ever cleaned your laptop using a jet of compressed air? It could also help you because if the dust blocks the air, your laptop is overheating.
    Check it!

  • Satellite A100-192 overheats and stops automatically

My 9 month a100-192 * is overheating. specifically my cpu (processor intel centrino duo).
In normal operation (runing nothing too 'heavy', only for things like Opera, foobar, thunderbird and others) the temperature is around the 50-60 degrees celsius * and that it itself is too.

Really warm and not so comfortable to work, what makes the left side of the keyboard. The temperature is still higher than when running something demending. Do not have meassued that the temperature, but I persume it is really, really high.

After aprox. one hour of play "company of heroes" the computer closed like a messure of security due to the large heat (it happened more than once).
I do not think that the fans are blocked with dust, because from what I see they have clean air. Also I don't think it's the hard drive (it's temperature is about 40 degrees celsius).

Maybe it's my ati radeon x 1600, but I doubt that, as the temperature is very high, even if not matter what either graphically demanding (victory of base xp environment).

    What could be the problem?

    * processor intel centrino duo @ 2 GHz, 1, 5 GB, ati mobility radeon x 1600 with 256 MB, 100 GB hard drive
    * Jieme temperature CPU with CPUCooL

    Hello

    > In normal operation (nothing too 'heavy', running only things like Opera, foobar, thunderbird and others) the temperature is around the 50-60 degrees celsius * and that it itself is too.
Unfortunately, I'm not agree with you. The level of 50-60 degree temperature is not too high. My laptop also reaches this level if I m only to connect to the internet.

May I ask how do you use the laptop?
The laptop must be placed on the table or desk and you should have enough free space around the laptop for cool air circulation.
The cooling grids must be free!
Check if fans can turn with a maximum return.
Dust and debris inside of the laptop stops especially cooling modules run properly.

    What graphic do you use?
Have you used one from the manufacturing of the graphics card? This driver does not support a protection from overheating!
Therefore, you must use the drivers of Toshiba's own graphics card!

  • Dell XPS 13 WiFi and internal speaker issue

I had problems with 2 numbers, the WiFi and the speakers. Problems with these two areas come and go, but it's frustrating that I bought this laptop a few weeks ago!

    (1) WiFi

I had problems with the laptop which the WiFi would disconnect after using it for some time, usually around one hour. The wifi icon would show as little access without internet access and turn off/on, airplane mode and all of the other methods described on these forums would not allow the laptop to connect or find my wifi network. Restart the computer would solve this problem. It's really frustrating so I exchanged for a new one on the Microsoft Store.

With the new laptop exchanged, would pose the same exact wifi problems. Each device is connected to the network was not having connectivity problems and my router was working fine, every time the laptops first and second had problems of wifi. I then called Dell Support and I was instructed to install the drivers wifi and bluetooth on the Dell site, but the same problems with wifi can't access to internet limited/no and don't see the network would occur again in sleep mode-use it for awhile. I found a thread in which someone unchecked the box that says something in the sense of 'to disable the device _ to save energy' which I guess was a feature related to the wireless adapter. This seemed to fix the problem for about 2 weeks up until a few days ago when the problem would be reactivated.

The wifi icon would go into the State limited with a legend no internet access and the tips airplane mode and turn off/on would not do anything. Enter the network and sharing Center once I disabled the adapter, I would try to right click and enable again, but the icon would stay as disabled little matter how many times I clicked on activate. Restarting the computer is the only way that the laptop seems to find the network. Everything is updated from this post.

    (2) speakers

The second issue is the speakers. Everything works well except for the few times I used Cortana. When I click on the microphone icon to talk and Cortana talks back, there is a buzz as well as voice. Similarly, sometimes TI Cortana would say that it does not work and try again later.

These questions are really frustrating (especially WiFi problems) and I really need help with these problems as Dell technicians to offshore I have met are very rigid and robot-like and they don't seem too useful otherwise than on the fundamental issues. I love this computer but if these problems keep occurring, according to me, it's better to return just as it is still within the 30 day period.

I think I have solved the problem, finally using the solution proposed for downgrading to the driver 6.x (before it was disconnecting every few seconds, and now he held a super weak signal for awhile without turning off once).

Ironically, I found the Broadcom driver available on the Lenovo site (it has been removed from the Dell site according to my previous post!) - here is a link for all tent play technician on behalf of Dell:
