Dilemma chapter numbering

I'm trying to dial my chapters, but the way that it works is so confused. It does not work very well...

I have to go the chapter titles to another post "bizarre" to let him work...

The pages are defined in chronological order.

What I need to change my settings so that everything will be fine?

Thank you guys!

Someone helped me.

To solve this problem, I have to put in the middle of the text box of the chapter on the right page (left side). Numbering of paragraphs follows automatically.

  • Chapter numbers automatic for chapters within a single document

I just got a question from a reader of my VQS. He wants to know how to "capture" the chapter number and chapter title to my chapters for footers in the document.

I know how to make a model that is used for every single document that each chapter. These documents are collected in a book. Chapter numbers are set to "Automatic chapter numbering."

But chapter numbers can only increase if documents are separate files assembled in a book. (At least, I think it's true.)

But what happens if circulate you a paper with all the chapters within this single file? How to set chapter numbers to change automatically for footers? I suspect that you would need a variable text style paragraph or character as a footer. But how you get chapter numbers advance automatically?

Would you use the bullets and numbering in the paragraph style?

I know how to do these. I wonder what people would do for their workflow.

You're right about the automatic chapter numbers - it's just one per doc.

I think that I use a separate running header (character style) variable and try to pick up the number in the title of the chapter, if it is there or add a number of non-printing 'tag' on the first page of each chapter, if it is not.

  • Chapter numbers will appear in the table of contents with page numbers...

First of all, thank you all so much for the display of the answers.  This forum is wonderful.

I have a doc that needs to have chapter numbers appear with the page numbers in the table of contents.

    I insert the < $chapnum > and < $currentpagenum > in the footer and I get 1-1 appears.

To include 1-1 in the table of contents, do I have to edit the referring Page, or is there another way.

Thank you very much for your help!

Change the reference to the table of contents page to use the building block as well as the first page, which is <$chapnum>chapnum.<$pagenum>

  • Excluding the chapters of automatic chapter numbering

    Screen Shot 2013-11-17 at 19.23.14.png

    Hi guys, first time poster!

    I need help.

I've set up each of my chapters with automatic chapter headings (Type > text Variables > insert Variable > chapter number)

    So that part works fine.

The problem I have is (as you can see in my screenshot), for my books, Chapter 1 begins in the 7th entry on the book panel. So, instead, Chapter 1 to 7, the chapter number. I'm doing this right? I can't find a solution. Must file as a table of contents and pages copyright etc is not in the compilation of the book? I want to export an entire PDF (what I know how to do) rather than having to connect a PDF file. I checked the "Document numbering Options" and under chapter numbering I don't see really an option to exclude the first entries of 4 or 5 and do the 7th in the list "Chapter 1".

    Any ideas?

    Thank you very much!

    Screen Shot 2013-11-17 at 19.27.51.png

The lower part of this Panel is for the chapters of the Document

You can see you have configured automatic chapter numbers

For Chapter 1, you should have

You must choose whether to start chapter numbering in chapter: 1

Then in your previous documents before

You must configure them so that they start numbering in Chapter 1 of too - but use a different numbering style as A, B, C, etc..

Or anything that works for you.

Bottom line is you need to select first chapter in the book and start the numbering of Chapter 1.

    Sjoerd Hey,.

    Try this:

    var myBook = app.activeBook;
    myBook.updateChapterAndParagraphNumbers();

    Hope that helps.

  • How to choose chapter numbers in table of contents headers?

Each new chapter title is in a table of one row and two columns. Column 1 contains only a large number (numbered style called ChapNum) against a shaded background and column 2 (shaded) contains the title of the chapter (Heading1 - which is NOT numbered; only the style of column 1 contains numbering.)

The only exceptions are the Preface (a title 1) chapter and the table of contents itself (which uses TOCTitle so it will not appear in the table of contents). For both, the shaded column 1 uses a style called ChapNoNum.

Layout a sideheads. first page of each numbered chapter looks like this:

    |-----|--------------------------|
    |     |                          |
    | 1   | Heading1.
    |-----|--------------------------|
    |     | text text text text text |
    |     | text text text text text |
    |     | text text text text text |

    |     | text text text text text |

    |-----|--------------------------|
    |     |                          |

    |     | TABLE OF CONTENTS |
    |-----|--------------------------|
    |     | Preface... 1.
    |     | 1 getting started... 3.
    |     | 2. more things... 5.
    |     | 3 troubleshooting... 9.

    ----------------------------------

But the table of contents contains only the Heading1s, which are not numbered. How to include the ChapNum in front of the title 1 in the table of contents? (I tried to use graphical boxes on master pages, instead of the rows in the table on the page body, but have not found the answer it.)

    Any help is welcome.

Table of contents specified only captures paragraph formats. Chapter numbers are not specified in the table of contents, so they are not captured. To capture the number and paragraphs of title, you must specify both formats in implementing TOC. For race number in the title, you must assign a paragraph format in the entrance of the number in the table of contents; This will cause the title to the number on the same line.

  • How can I get rid of chapter numbers in a book?

Chapter numbering options (under layout / numbering and Section Options) do not include "no numbering. When I import a file for a chapter by using the function of the Place to load in a Word doc, '1.' text appears on the line of eheader th.

I tried to go to the Type / text Variables / defines the location and the removal of the text chapter number variable. However, when I Place a Word doc in my book, the chapter number usually appears at the beginning of the chapter, and then I can't make it go away.

    Help gratefully received.

You have to work pretty hard to use the assigned chapter number by ID. The usual method is to insert a chapter number variable in a block of text. Place a Word document would not invoke it. It seems to me that the chapter number is included in the Word file, which makes some sense from the point of view of the author and should be selectable as any other text in the document.

  • Pages: automatic section / chapter numbering?

Hi, how can I create an automatic section / chapter formatting & numbering like this?

(Note: I speak NOT a list numbered with new numbers after each line break.) I want to have a certain numbering and style applied when I start a new section / sub-section / block of text.)

    Thank you!

    Hi Peter,.

I suspect you'll find that the answer is simple "feature not supported."

As far as I know, Pages does not support divisions of the document beyond the level 'Section' (or 'Chapter'). You need to investigate a different word-processing application.

  • How can I get my LOF to see the chapter numbers and page?

I work in FM 11. My document has a TOC, BATCH, and LOF. My LOF would not be up-to-date, so I created a new one from scratch, but can't seem to get the LOF to display the chapter number in the Figure number and the page number. The format should be TitreFigure X - Y Figure... X Z. Where X is the chapter of the source, there is the number listed in this chapter, and Z is the number of page (Figure 1 - 1 Architecture... 1-5 showing the first figure in Chapter 1 is on page 5 of Chapter 1.)

The reference page for the PRIZE which is correct:

    LOT_Ref_pg.PNG

Compared to the reference page for the LOF that shows me only consecutive numbers and a page without the chapter prefix numbers:

    LOF_RefPg.PNG

I tried to copy the reference to the table of contents or the BATCH page. My LOF looks like this:

    LOF.PNG

You must add the <$chapnum>component in all relevant places you want FM to display the chapter number (see the table of contents for examples). You will also need to change some of your paratags to be included in the automatic numbering (if your content is using this combo of num chapter-figure in your chapter documents).

Also insert the tabs in page reference LOF definitions, but use the code '\t' instead of a tab character so that you know that a tab command was specified. Change the corresponding paratags to include the desired tab stops. (for example for Figure_TitleLOF you should have something like "<$paranum><$paratext>\t \t<$chapnum>-<$pagenum>").

  • Broken chapter numbering - 1 book file only

    Windows 7 64-bit. FrameMaker 11, build 11.0.1.382

I have a book with 5 chapters. In my files, the Format of title 1 (chapter name) Para has the following automatic numbering style:

    C:Chapter < n + > < = 0 > < = 0 > < = 0 >:

    Autodial is checked.

In the book, numbering... has the value

Chapter:  ' Continue the numbering from the previous chapter book.

Paragraph: "Continue the numbering of the previous paragraph in the book."

All my files are correctly numbering except the file modified in the book (Chapter 5). Title 1 (chapter name) isn't picking up the correct number. It is always wrong to-1.

And, I have copied this file to one of the other files in the book that works properly. In fact, all the other files in the book don't work properly and they all have the same numbering (in the book) except for the first file (set to 1 or on restart)

They have all the same characters/para formats, templates, etc..

Updated numbering... nothing does. It is as if she is 'missing' from the topic in Chapter 4 and therefore not jump to Chapter 5. But, I can't find anything missing.

Of course, I could use some help with this one. Thank you!

  • Creation of captions with chapter numbers

Redesign of our guides and we trying to create captions for our figures and tables that include the chapter number as the figure is (i.e. Figure 3.5). The problem is that we do not use the book feature; each of our guides is contained in a single document, because some of our chapters are so short that it seemed unnecessary to place each in their own document. I know that if each chapter has its own document, we could create a paragraph style numbered list with a number as a Figure ^ H. ^ #. Is it possible to reproduce without real, separate document chapters? Up to this point, we had a separate paragraph for each chapter style (Figure 1. ^ #, Figure 5. ^ #, etc.), but some of our guides have received more time than we expected and which becomes more and more annoying. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We use CS5.

Review your document guide just like a list of several levels, as a plan, with chapter, section, paragraph, text, figure and styles of paragraphs in table. Number of any levels are important, such as chapter and figure. Set the styles of paragraph to continue numbers across stories and restart figures and tables after the previous levels. The number format for the paragraph style figure must begin with the text "Figure" followed by a space reserved for the chapter-level number, number then '. ', the space reserved for the paragraph in figure style.

Google search for words such as 'tutorial InDesign multilevel numbered list' without the quotes for the good info.

  • How can I include chapter numbers in my master page?

I want to understand my numbers chapter and that the numbers of 'Party', as part one, second part of the book, in my master pages like page numbers. Is this possible?

    Hello.

Sorry to bother you with this (seemingly simple) question, but I have tried everything and still can't find the solution.

I recently inherited a document and will put up the files.

It's over for the most part, I just need to clean, PDF and pass along.

    ... except for ONE problem:

    All chapters say "Chapter 1".

I tried Format > Document > numbering, watched online and we have tried all other methods I can think of.

Whenever I update the book, all the files still say "Chapter 1".

    Help, please!

  • Dilemma of numbers

I can not anywhere on this with Excel for Mac 2008, so I thought I'd try numbers.  Help is greatly appreciated.

I have a database that l would look like this:

    A                  B          C             D            E            F           G

    1 Apple D 0 C 1986 41 1999

    2 orange 2010 44 S 1999 42 T

    3 pears S 2014 2014 0 D 43

    Mango 4 C 0 T 2010 44 1986

I need formulas in column D to reach my goal, which I hope I can explain coherently:

Looking at the range a1: C4, note that in cells B2 and C2, the values are T and 2010.  Now looking at the E1:G4 Beach, notice that the values that appear in the cells E4 and F4 are also T and 2010.  There will be only one line in each range in which the T and combination 2010 appear together.  And when they harmonize perfectly, as in the example above, I want the value in cell G4 (in this case, 44), to be placed in cell D2.

    What should do?

    D1 = if (counta(a1:C1) > 2, SUMIFS (F, G, E, B1, C1), "")

It's shorthand dethrone select cell D1 and type (or copy and paste it here) the formula:

    = IF (counta(a1:C1) > 2, SUMIFS (F, G, E, B1, C1), "")

    Select cell D1, copy
