  • Disable broadcast SSID and MAC address turn on filtering on WAG320N

When disabling SSID broadcast and enabling MAC address filtering on WAG320N, my other laptop wireless disconnected.  And when you try to connect, it connects again.

You can not hide from intruders.

The router always sends the tag. The router is immediately detected.

The SSID is always transferred not encrypted. He is always sent over the association. It is easy to force a re-Association. If there is a single device without wire connected to the access point it takes about a second to learn the SSID.

Disable the SSID requires your wireless devices to search actively for the network. This means that your laptop will always try to connect to your SSID, as long as it is not connected to another network. As sending requires much more power then listen passively it drains your battery.

And, in fact, if you are in an internet café anyone can learn your SSID in time where you go on the wireless at the moment where you associate with the network of internet café.

In addition, it causes many problems with different wireless, as instability or similar cards.

MAC filtering is still more useless that the MAC address is always part of any wireless transmission and it's always clear. It is extremely easy to pick up the allowed MAC addresses, and it is extremely easy to change the MAC address of a wireless card.

New: use the real security and forget this nickname of security features.

What you try to do is a waste of time. Of your time. It will slow down any intruder.

  • Broadcasting SSId

My router and access point is currently broadcast and WPA protected.  Can I connect a HP Photosmart 6520 to this network?  How?

    Hello

Yes, but for the installation, turn on the SSID, this will make life easier. After that you can deactivate return.

    Kind regards.

  • WLS-9163 is unable to reconnect in wireless mode after reboot in a WLAN with broadcasting SSID

Initial configuration is defined by MAX using cable.  Wireless configuration is DHCP, with Infrastructure, WPA - PSK.  I save the settings and unplug the wired connection.  Then I delete the original instrument from the list of devices OR DAQmx of MAX.  Then I do a 'find network DAQmx Devices'.  The wireless device is discovered and works (self-test passes).  WLS link on the device indicator is green.

Then, if I cycle power on the 9163, the WLS link never comes.

This seems to be because my thread is not broadcasting an SSID.  If I go to a nearby access point and turn on the SSID broadcast, the WLS Link LED lights and MAX can review system.

Is there a way to make the 9163 connect to a WLAN that don't broadcast a SSID?

    Burned - salvation

First of all, thank you for the detailed notes. This helps a lot. You have the right version of DAQmx; now, we just need to upgrade the firmware. Here's how:

After you have added the device in MAX (preferably on an Ethernet connection), click the button "Update Firmware":

You will get a window that looks like this, where you can see what version of firmware you have. Click the folder to find the new firmware. It takes by default in a directory on your hard drive that contains the file 'ni9163fwROM.cfg' (if that's not listed for some reason, you can find it here: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DAQ\fpgafiles\mionetwork\ni9163)

After the start of the update, you will look at a window of the scrollbar for a minute or two. Then, the device will be auotmatically reboot. You may need to reconfigure your settings after the update.

Regarding the deletion/time that you did. You should not. After you have configured the wireless, you should see an IP address in MAX on the wireless tab. If she is not there, click "Refresh" now you can pull the Ethernet cable and continue to use the device. (If you want to convince yourself, click on the "Refresh" button again and you will see that the "Link Status" for the "Wired" connection is "down".)

I hope this helps. Let us know what happens. Thank you

  • APs broadcasting SSID no manual provisioning WLC (using DNS resolution to find WLC)?

    Hello community,

I use DNS name resolution to make discovery APs WLC here for the first time.

Could I do APs SSID broadcasting without any manual configuration on the WLC (provisioning AP)?

If so, it is possible to just allow APs to broadcast using their serial number or MAC address for example?

    Thank you.

    Kind regards

I did not understand what is complete, but will try to put my point:

    1. If these are the (controller based AP) CAP, then you must add to WLC to have wireless access - I think that you already have or?

    2. once the AP joins WLC, they boradcast WLAN all (id 1 to 16) created the WLC.

There is no automatic process on caps, you must create the SSID on diffuse WLC from AP.

AP will not broadcast anything if they are not attached to the WLC.

I missed something or you have any other question?

You can control a with either wireless network adapter software integrated in Windows XP (or WZC Wireless Zero Configuration) or with software provided by the manufacturer of the card (for example, Intel PROSet/Wireless), but not both at the same time.

Most, but not all, software configuration wireless no Windows is smart enough to disable WZC automatically.

There are a few sites that offer "safety tips" for wireless networks which includes 'hide' your wireless network by disabling the SSID broadcast.  This is not a good idea and does not, in fact, your wireless security.  See http://blogs.technet.com/b/steriley/archive/2007/10/16/myth-vs-reality-wireless-ssids.aspx if you have disabled broadcast SSID of your router, automatic configuration won't be able to find it.

I get a message that the network is secure, and the second computer guard trying to acquire an address, but will not acquire an address

If you have enabled encryption wireless router (a very good idea), you will need to enter the correct password in order to connect a find an IP address. What type of wireless encryption configured on the router?

This second computer using Windows to configure the Wi - Fi connection and was working fine until I tried to connect the Dell laptop upward. Then the IBM laptop cannot acquire an address.

You have changed something else.  The idea of a wireless network is to allow multiple computers to connect; connection to a computer shouldn't affect how another computer connects.

The easiest way is to configure your router to connect a computer using an Ethernet cable (if you connect wireless, you will be disconnected when you make a change to the configuration of the router wireless).  For the Belkin router User Guide is here--> http://cache-www.belkin.com/support/dl/p74559-f_f5d7230-4v8xxx_manual.pdf

Open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) and type 192.168.2.1 in the address box.  You should get to the home page of the router. Click on the "Login" link at the top.  The default password for the router is blank (no password) unless you changed it.

Click on the link "Channel and SSID" under the heading "wireless" on the left side of the page.

    • Make sure that there is to check the "Broadcast SSID"
    • "Wireless mode" should be "g only" or "fashion g and b" (the latter is necessary only if you have a very old b wireless adapter in one of your computers)
    • I suggest you let off QoS (but click on "more info" or see what says the User Guide)
    • The wireless channel should be 1, 6 or 11.  If you have no difficulties, let him you will find
    • "Protected mode" should be off (but click on "more info" or see what says the User Guide)
    • If you make changes, click on "Apply Changes".

Click on the 'Security' line under the heading "wireless".  You should be able to see both what type (if any) encryption is configured (64-bit WEP, 128-bit WEP, WPA, or WPA2) and the password (if any).  Unless your computer maps are old, you should use WPA2.  If the adapter in one or more of your computers is too old to be capable of WPA2, use WPA.  Regardless of the bit, WEP length, is easily broken.

  • Don't I have the latest Firmware for WRT110?

I just bought and installed the WRT110 and I was wondering if I have the latest firmware. I show the version 1.0.04)is build 10 in routers administration page.

Also, I would like to know if I have security measures in place for my network. I am 'new' for wireless routers, but I used a wired Linksys router with two computers on the network. Now my wife has added his MacBook to the mix, so I thought I would try a wireless router. The other two systems will remain wired for now.

    So far I have:

    Compatible WPA - 2

    SPI enabled

    NAT enabled

MAC enabled filtering and only authorized wireless computers MAC address

    Changed default SSID

    Default password changed

What else should I consider for this set - up?

    Thank you

You should not loacte the router near the LCD monitor also or other computer equipment or speakers...

    To disable the SSID broadcast-

Open an Internet Explorer browser on your computer (desktop) wired page. In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press ENTER... Let the empty user name & password use admin lowercase...
Click the Wireless tab, select Disable SSID broadcast...

Disabling the SSID broadcast prevents your network to appear in the list of available wireless networks, but it is still present...

Note that disabling SSID broadcast is one of the many techniques of tightening of security on a Wi - Fi network. This technique is not 100% effective, because hackers can still detect the SSID sniffing different messages in the Wi - Fi Protocol. Yet, using techniques as the disable broadcast SSID makes it more likely that any intruder it will move your home network who seek easier targets elsewhere.

  • Help: wet610n will not connect to wrt610n when the ssid broadcast is disabled

I have a wet610n wirteless bridge linking very well with my router wrt610n broadcast ssid is enabled on the router, but when I turn it off then (the rest unchanged), the wet610n can not connect.

    What I am doing wrong?

Or require the wet610n ssid will be broadcast (I didn't read that anywhere)?

    Thank you

I have power cycled it, but I tried again and then experienced little more after you reset the wet610n and reconfiguring again.

What seems to work, is to allow the broadcast of the SSID of the router and leaving the wet610n bridge wireless connection. So I can turn off the broadcast of the SSID and power cycle the wet610n and it can then connect.

Without the first activation of SSID and connected, the bridge connects wireless.

Thank you - it is "resolved".

  • 5660 envy: envy 5660 disable the wireless SSID

I have the printer connected via USB, do not have a Wi - Fi connection.  The printer always broadcasting a SSID, even though the wireless feature is set to OFF.  I looked on these forums and looked through the manual and nothing works to turn off the SSID of the printer braodcast.  How can I disable the SSID?

    Hi @divot71,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand that you want to disable the SSID wireless with your printer HP Envy 5660. I'm happy to help you!

If the wireless function is set to off, the only other function I can think. Is to disable direct wireless as well. According to this guide, printing with a Wi-Fi Direct, she says: most HP printers wireless released in late 2014 and later support Wi - Fi Direct. Printers compatible with touchscreen control panels have a Wi - Fi Direct icon (). If your printer control panel does not have the icon, go to the menu of the Network Configuration or the wireless settings and confirm if an item of menu Wi - Fi Direct is displayed.

I hope that solves your problem!
