Display headaches! My external monitor is labeled as default, 1 and primary.

Hi I am using Windows Vista Home Edition. I use an external CRT monitor with my laptop for several months without problems. To connect the monitor external, all I do is check the button "to extend to this monitor" and then 'apply '. I can then move windows external monitor and watch movies.
However, since yesterday my laptop does not display images. I put on the external monitor and noticed that my desktop, icons, etc. were all on the external monitor. Even worse I have when I go to display settings, I see that the external monitor is labeled "default monitor." On the Nvidia Control Panel, it is presented as 'primary monitor' and has the number 1. When I try to set my laptop as primary on the Nvidia Control Panel it displays a dialog box won't let me change.
To my surprise, I now have to check the button "to extend to this monitor" to see the images on my laptop, which is an empty office with a blurred image and color. I also have to move the mouse to the left of the CRT monitor to my laptop screen, the complete opposite. When I click on "identification of instructors" it shows my 1 CRT and my laptop 2!
It's crazy! I need my laptop to stay on the screen by default, number 1 and primary. But it now appears that the CRT has taken over as my main screen.
When I power off, unplug the CRT and powered, the display reverts to my laptop. But as soon as I connect the CRT to my laptop, my laptop screen turns off and the CRT takes over.
I would really appreciate a help of a guru of computing or a person who has had a similar problem but has overcome.
Thank you very much.

Hi, Matter333,

Did you add new hardware or software?  Have you tried a system restore?

Try to uninstall the driver for the monitor

  • Cannot get T500 to display on the external monitor

    Hello
I'm running Windows 7 on a ThinkPad T500 (type 2082.BSG), and I'm having problems after have recently updated my display on the Lenovo site software (read the list of installed software, I think that the installation of the software that is the cause of the problem is "ThinkPad features video [AMD switchable Graphics (M8x)] for Windows 7 [32/64 bit] ') version 8.752.4 - 101022 a-107489C-Lenovo). Before the update my computer has guessed what display is active (laptop screen or external monitor) and used the active display. For example, when the laptop is docked and the cover closed he used the external monitor. After the update when the laptop is connected and the lid is closed, I can't display on the external monitor. I have to open the lid and use the Fn + F7 to get the display on the external monitor. Can anyone tell me please what settings should I use to get the old behavior.

    Kind regards

The previous is an old post, but as there was no response, and I recently solved the problem, I write in case someone else runs into the same problem.

After having encountered the problem I restored the factory default driver (which does not show the problem). However, lately I received another message to the effect that it is recommended to install Lenovo "Thinkpad video Features (AMD Switchable Graphics...). ...". I installed the software but the problem described in my original message reappeared. However, this time, the software of (the age AMD) had a "driver update" option and my video material is correctly recognized and the correct driver has been downloaded from the AMD website, after which the problem described in my original post disappeared.

  • My laptop (Dell Inspiron only 3 months old) is displayed on an external monitor, but not on the laptop screen. I am running Windows 7.

My laptop (Dell Inspiron only 3 months old) is displayed on an external monitor, but not on the laptop screen. I am running Windows 7. It was running and display very well last night. When I turned on this morning the monitor lit up but show just a gray-white screen and no office. When I attached an external monitor, I could see desktop and all other programs and Windows 7 routines seem to work very well.

Press the Windows logo key and the p key, and then set up the PC to display on the built-in monitor only cycle through with the arrow key.  You can make this Store if you want - key Windows-p, right arrow once, paused for a few seconds & the laptop monitor should then appear normally.

You can do so at the end of each session using the external display while you are ready for the use of the laptop on its own later.

  • Satellite A660-1FM - maximum resolution of the display of the external monitor

    Hi all

Maybe it is (probably) an easy question to answer, but I have a Satellite A660-1FM and want to use it with my external screen Samsung Syncmaster (forgot model). I got a HDMI-> DVI - D adapter and everything is going well, but here's my question:

The page of specifications of toshiba for my laptop (http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-A660-1FM/1096013/toshibaShop/false/) shows a capacity of external resolution of:
    Maximum resolution: 2 048 x 1 536
    Max refresh rate: 100 Hz
Resolution No interlaced with the maximum refresh rate: 1920 x 1 200

But I get what I call resolution HDMI standard (no wonder, I guess) when connected HDMI-> DVI - D to my external monitor. I have already run this monitor on my desk at highest resolution of 1080 p, so the monitor is capable.
Wondering what I'm missing here, or is that a matter of graphics card specification is more than possible to the output of the laptop?

    Thanks for any help
    Andy

    Hi Khaled,

What is the native screen resolution of your external display?
Can you connect your laptop and monitor with HDMI cable only why you need an adapter?

To be honest I don't understand your question. If you already have the Full HD screen resolution why do you need more?

  • Equium A110-252: the display on the external monitor resolution

When I connect my LCD TV screen to my new satellite A110-252 using the external monitor port does not fit the image of the (too big) TV screen.

I've tried everything on orders for establishment of TV screen but no joy. Surely, there must be an option to fit to the screen on satellite? Can anyone help?

    Thank you Perry.

Hi there, you are using the external monitor port or the S-Video? Unfortunately, if you use the S-video port you can hold all of Office on television because it is technically impossible (without deleting the lines).

TV less than number of rows than a computer monitor: PAL = 576 visible lines, NTSC = 480 visible lines except if you can pass in 640 x 480 mode 800 x 600 is the best that you can use to display an image on the TV.

  • Dynadock U Display problems on external monitor.

I have a U Dynadock docking station connected to a laptop of HP Elitebook. I have a 24 "FullHD Viewsonic external monitor connected to the DVI - D port on the Dynadock and a second monitor connected to the VGA port on the laptop. The second monitor works fine but the main monitor connected to the Dynadock is slow to update, I can't use AutoCAD or software playback such as display support will not regenerate properly, in other words each movement leaves a trace and screen ends up a mess, videos on the used media player are not working at all, however if I move the on the second monitor, they work fine.

The primary monitor is set to the resolution 1920 x 1080.

The second problem is whenever I restart to start the laptop the primary monitor is at a lower resolution I need to readjust every time. It didn't happen for the first days, I got the Dynadock, but now it happens every time. I downloaded the latest DisplayLink driver but did not help. I also tried to download the latest Dynadock driver but could not get the image of CD ROM to run.

    > The second monitor works fine but the main monitor connected to the Dynadock is slow to update, I can't use AutoCAD or software support of reading such as the display refresh correctly, in other words, each movement leaves a trace and the screen ends up a mess, videos on the used media player work not at all However if I move the on the second monitor, they work fine.

The Dynadock is connected to the computer via a USB cable to the USB port.
In my opinion the USB ports are not designed to transfer this large amount of data that are created by a video.

You can use the Dynadock as part of some office applications, a software, but I doubt it would work properly I watch the video on the external monitor.

  • Satellite L500: internal display is dead - external monitor is ok

    I haven't used my L500 for about 6 weeks
I tried to start it yesterday only to find "dead".

I charged the battery overnight and I tried again this morning to find that my screen does not work.
I plugged an external display that works, then I tried FN + F5 to switch between screens.

The pc now only works in safe mode

    Help

    Hello

It looks like a malfunction of the internal display.

If the external monitor works properly, then I guess the graphics chip is ok too.

In my opinion, there must be something wrong with the internal display.

    What do you think?

  • HP Pavilion dv6-7029wm: BIOS display on an external monitor

    Hello

The screen of my laptop has been broken for quite awhile now and I tried to find a way to be able to view the BIOS on an external monitor.

I tried pressing f2 and f8, f10 or esc on startup and try using f4 to toggle the display without result.

As a side note, when I press f10 if I try to press keys f later my computer makes a high-pitched beep, I don't know if this means anything but I feel like it is worth noting. I use an external keyboard, so I don't have a fn key, if all that matters.

Finally, I tried to disconnect the front lcd screen but my attempts to disassemble my laptop in the past have not exactly well and I do not trust myself without ruining things more far.

What I can do about it, or am I out of luck?

I'm afraid you're out of luck when it comes to BIOS on external monitor display. The switch of the F4 does that once the computer is started. Same goes for making a recovery system - several have posted asking how to see recovery on external monitor... screens cannot be done.

Your Service and Maintenance Guide should help with reeplacing lcd.

  • BlackBerry smartphones will not show the clock display to the external monitor

Just bought this phone and can't seem to find a way to keep the clock on the flip cover page display

Do you clock for a minute or two and it becomes empty, if yes, this is normal. You can lengthen the time that the backlight stays on in options > keyboard/screen.

  • Problems with an external monitor with the Port Replicator III and M100

    Hey all.

I just returned from a trip where I took my laptop. Plugged into the Port Replicator port, started and everything was fine. Then after an hour or two, the monitor stopped receiving a signal. I repositioned the laptop and everything was good again. He then loses signal once again, and I was not able to get a signal via the port replicator since.

The monitor works fine through the hole at the rear of the M100.

I checked the pins on the Port Replicator port and portable, none folded and tried to clean any dust etc. Still no signal to the monitor.

Someone has ideas of how to do to solve this problem?

  • Satellite A200-1BJ - no display on external monitor

    Hello

I have a display problem with my laptop, which is:

When I connect my computer to an external display (projector - data show - using the rgb or s-video cable), the contents of my computer are not displayed.
I used F5, Catalyst Control Center, but without success.
When I connect it with a TV using s-video, I get the message "no signal".
I think of the existence of the other devices, but the content is not sent to the external display.

I don't know what the problem is. I need to use my computer and the screen using a projector for my presentations, which is very common.
The problem is that he used to work, then suddenly it stopped display on external displays.
I could not understand the problem, then I thought that the settings have been changed accidentally.
So I formatted my computer back to the factory setting, but my attempt failed and it still does not display on the external monitor.

    My computer specs:
    -Toshiba Satellite A200-1BJ
    -Processor: Intel Core2 Duo
-OS: Windows Vista editions Home Premium
-Graphics card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600

    Does anyone know the solution?

    Thanks in advance.

In your case I would update the BIOS and the display driver. The two you can find on the Toshiba site:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

Have you tried different cables? Maybe it s faulty or too long.

Also, be sure to use a rate of resolution and refresh supported for the external monitor display. You can change that in Catalyst Control Center.

  • Turn off display when you use the external monitor R61?

    Hello

I have a ThinkPad R61, which I use with an external monitor.  Somehow, I had in place for months with the laptop out of the screen and the monitor on.  I've used today at a meeting to feed a projector, selected somehow dieting Fn F7 of presentation such as the screen and the projector are-as I wanted - then home, re-installed with my external monitor and cannot find out how to turn off the display on the laptop.  The selections under Fn F7 do not allow this combination.  I tried the trick you offered, Fn F3 to turn off the display, but it turned out the two views.  (Now, how can I reverse this setting?)

It sounds like a requirement of switching every day, but I can't find a clue in aid of ThinkVantage, manual mini, on the website, etc.  Thank you

    WaynO salvation,

After pressing Fn + F7, click on manage plans... to open the Director presentation window. Then click the new... button. You should be able to put in place a system to only display on the external monitor. After setting up, make sure to check the box in the column Menu Fn + F7 to have your new schema appears in the menu when you press Fn + F7.

  • N5110 display not working, but when the external monitor is connected to come

My screen does not work and I often hear 8 beeps at startup which indicate a problem with lcd display. But if I connect an external monitor, the LCD lights up also and then I can disconnect the external follow and work with my built-in screen. If I turned off or in hibernation etc the same problem occurs.

    Hi rndb_v,

LCD screen could be about to fail, or it could be a cable problem. I suggest you try reseating the LCD cable. You can find the manuals here http://dell.to/1n5lDxb

  • External monitor flickers and send the display to the laptop screen

I'm running Windows 7 on a ThinkPad. I have an external monitor from ViewSonic VX2433wm I connect and use scope display mode. This all worked fine for many months, and then a few months ago I started having a problem where, after several minutes, the ViewSonic and the computer screen will be time twinkle a few times and then just what is on the ViewSonic flies to the computer screen. I have updated the monitor display drivers and the laptop, but still have the problem. In addition, I discovered by chance yesterday that, even if the external monitor is turned off but connected to the laptop, the screen of the computer, still wobbles. It's driving me crazy!

    Hello

I suggest you try the following steps:

Step 1: change display settings also change color depth then test

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/getting-the-best-display-on-your-monitor

Step 2: Flickering of the Correct monitor (refresh rate)

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/correct-monitor-flicker-refresh-rate

Try using the display quality problems to solve the problem. It ensures that your video card driver is compatible Windows 7, and checks to see if your color grading, video effects and display settings are correct.
