Downgrade Portege R500 XP Vista, data Interface drivers

I demoted this Visa for XP pro portable form, everything was installed fine, drivers, software, etc., but I keep adding new material for data Interface. I checked records Tosh Visa and Xp I have, but some drivers are on them. I also checked this site and others, but there seems to be nothing about it. I can't finish this laptop to send to the end user, until I have the problem of data Interface drivers. Anyone can shed some light on this.

Thanks in advance for any help/tips

Data interface driver? Are you sure that it s a good name?
Sorry, but something like that is unknown to me and I've never heard of data interface driver

  • Portege R500: XP - Vista Dual Boot

After much struggling R500 I Dual Boot XP Vista works fine.

I bought the R500 with Vista, but has found a use not very good for real.

Microsoft has announced that you can go back to XP if you have licensed professional Vista - but Toshiba will still provide an installation CD.

I decided to set up a dual boot with another license XPPro rather than do a reinstall. Many of my problems also apply to a straight reinstall XP.

You must reduce the Vista partitions or data in order to create space for a new primary partition, and then start it from a XP disc to install it in the new partition.

When you are installing XP, you will get a crash scren blue before arriving to screen the asking where you want to install because the XP CD does not one for hard disk sata driver, unless include you the operating system to include the correct driver, or use F6 to load the drivers you need.

You need the drivers Intel Matrix - available on their website - here
    http://Downloadcenter.Intel.com/Filter_Results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2800&OS FullName = Windows * + XP + Professional & lang = eng & strOSs = 44 & submit = Go %21

and you have to point 7 that you put on a key usb, floppy disk to use when you press F6.

But beware: when installing XP you indicates a choice of your special controllers and you choose - there seems to be about 4 in the list. I didn't know which one to choose. Indeed the list scrolls and the one you want is 82801GBM SATA AHCI (mobile) which is near the bottom of the list. If you choose the wrong process ends with a crash Stop blue screen 0007B.

With the right driver XP installs fine. When you restart Vista then seems to have disappeared (although there is not, and you can see the files of XP and Vista drive). The problem is that XP has replaced the Vista boot file you will need to repair Vista.

How to solve this problem is to use a Vista boot CD, cross the first screen, select Repair, select command prompt and type at the command prompt:

    Bootrec.exe /fixMBR
    and then
    Bootrec.exe /fixBoot

    then exit and restart.

Vista works then, but XP went!

then you need a utility to help you change the Vista boot record - I used EasyBCD (easily available on the web) failed with Acronis OS Loader.

Another problem - I got a message "hal.dll lack" that stopped XP installation as well. It is because the number of partition in the file boot.ini, he built was wrong--for me the exact number was 3. XP with no stage Hat device I could enter Vista and use Notepad to edit the boot.ini file

Once I had two starting systems, I could update XP and load the drivers of Toshiba. Once all Toshiba drivers had been installed in the system tree had no warning yellow and everything seems to work OK.

The whole process is well documented on the web but the points that I've highlighted here were not or caused me a special pain and took a lot of trial and error and research develop and when I called them last week and some of these points were not apparently known of and were not resolved by the Toshiba UK support.

I have now a satisfactory dual boot - XP is much better for me than Vista - and I've come back to Vista if service packs, etc. mean that he seems to have an adequate return.

I hope Toshiba will document this process properly and publish the results and provide an easy way to get the files you need in a single operation, rather than having to download each bit separately.

    Good luck!

    Hello

I have a Portege R500. I installed WinXP on it as soon as it happened what do not have experience with Vista.
I used the software iRotate to rotate my screen on the external display office.

Later, I installed Windows Vista Enterprise but utlities rotation screen whether irotate or pivotpro has stopped working.
I did the last update of the BIOS, installed the latest drivers Intel GMA but the result has not changed. In the Vista Control Panel, in the settings of the Tablet PC I don't see primary landscape option, but all my friends with different brands of laptops see 4 options here, which haven.

I don't want to go back to XP just for this simple thing, can anyone help?

    USB\VID_0930 & PID_1302 & MI_01\6 & 2EDD84F6 & 0 & 0001

Thanks in advance for any advice or help

    Hello

These are the modem and the features of com of your compilation in the 3G module.
Unfortunately the drivers are not available on the European download page now.
I guess it will take a few days until that pilots will be released.

  • Problem reading SD card after the mode reader 'sleep' Portege R500 SP1

    Hi all

I still have the problem, that my new Portege R500 with Vista SP1 does nor react when reading / writing on a SD card. This only happens when the SD card is inserted and I wake the R500 from his sleep. All read or written in the SD card will lock the PC and the R500 must be turned off hard. I tried this with different SD cards with always the same result. The R500 was freshly installed from the recovery DVD and even installing from a DVD SP1 Microsoft at any time has the same exact behavior. All the drivers are up to date, Bios 1.60. I also tried to remove the entry in Device Manager and reinstalled.

I found on the Microsoft site a patch, that describes exactly this issue: [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936825 | http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936825]. But this patch cannot be installed under Vista SP1. Microsoft says that it is already included in the Vista SP1. But it still does not.

Any other idea? Or what I have to live with it?

    Best regards
    Stefan

    Hello Stefan

I can imagine that this problem is quite annoying for you, but otherwise, you can disconnect SD card when you have no more need. I can't imagine that it must be inserted at all times.

I can imagine there are a few conflicts between the patches from Microsoft and Toshiba driver but such bugs should be fixed by some Toshiba updates or hotfixes Microsoft. What to say? I'm afraid at the moment that you must live with it.

By the way: post please exactly the model of mobile number and give some info on the SDCard (capacity). Perhaps someone with the same model laptop and the same card can test and view the results.

  • Portege R500: external monitor does not work with the Port Replicator Port 2 and DVI

I have a Portege R500 running Vista with a slim Port Replicator II and digital monitor Viewsonic.
I connected the monitor to the DVI port on the port replicator and got it to work OK.
Press fn + F5 would switch between the computer screen and the external monitor.

Then it stopped working, and I can't make it work at all. F5 recognizes just the laptop screen.

If I connect an analog display, it is fine, and I can pass between the two screens without difficulty.

The strangest thing is that, if I reboot when the Portege R500 is docked, the digital monitor begins by displaying the boot sequence, but then the signal is lost as soon as the screen stops the display of the progress (in low resolution) bar.

I spent an hour on the phone to support Friday, and he made me nowhere.
They finished by saying that he should never have worked! So what is the DVI port because then?

    Any ideas?

    David

Connect your monitor directly to your laptop and see if it is recognized and you can go through FN + F5 between the two views.
If it works, then connect with port replicator, and then try again.

It's probably best if you reinstall display drivers. Maybe there are new too on the download page.

I have gor Portege R500 with Vista preinstalled Enterprise.
It's maybe just me in dense (!) but I can't get the headphone jack to work when it is in the Replicator (and the Replicator does not have such a plug).

You must first check the Toshiba drivers for the last sounddrivers download page. Download and check if the problem occurs again. If not, everything is OK, but if not then come back and we'll talk more about your problem.

  • Portege R500: Explorer crashes cured by installing the Driver Sound R600

The equipped Portege R500 of Vista is a great phone except that mine Windows Explorer (not IE) kept crashing without obvious reason. The taskbar would suddenly become unresponsive and then I would get the opportunity to restart Explorer. "Problem Reports and Solutions" shows 129 these events in the 44 weeks since I bought it, and it is not my main computer, so I don't use it every day

In any case, I think I found a solution which is to replace the R500 Realtek Sound Driver (version 6.0.1.5400) by the one for the R600 (version 6.0.5655). Since doing the crash seems to have stopped.

The idea was that almost all of the events in question 'AppHangXProcB1', ' waiting on the name of the Application: svchost.exe:AudioClientRpc', and ' bucket ID: 157806391'. Research put in question the Realtek Sound driver and revealed many reports indicate that a similar problem with other laptops.

The original version 6.0.1.5400 is still topical for R500 according to European and us sites Toshiba. However, the R600 version is 6.0.5655 dated dated 17/11/2008. As the R500 and R600 so similar I installed and have had no accidents since then. Previously I tried to upgrade to version 6.0.1.5624 (from Windows Update on 2009-03-04) and 6.0.1.5477, which Toshiba Canada for the R500 question, but they were no better than 6.0.1.5400.

I haven't noticed any bad Effect to have the pilot of 'bad '. Of course, it would be nice to have advice from Toshiba on this and to know if other people have had similar problems with their R500, but in the meantime, it's great to be able to use it without the bar all the time freezing of tasks.

    Hi Johnson

Thanks for this report. This is the solution and the very interesting question.
Let's see if someone else will report on the same or similar topic.

To be honest, I can't imagine that Windows Explorer may hang so easy with the settings.
All the preinstalled images are tested and if there is a serious problem you need to Toshiba. But anything is possible.

  • Portege R500 is seriously defective

It was first the CTRL dying.
Went to the office with him and they they replaced all keyboard because they said it was almost burnt.

SECOND, I remember first to get this laptop brand new costed me more than my monthly salary, I was pretty happy with it, I could put on my feet and start reading and coding.

NOW, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to HOLD IT in MY LAP because of the TOO MUCH HEAT.

THIRD, now the CD PLAYER does not work, showing that magical exclamation that many see in Device Manager, usb device.

FOURTH, at 03:16, this LATOP woked me up, with the SOUND OF THE CD DRIVE ASSEMBLY or other operation, it does. The laptop WAS CLOSED, but it suddenly STARTED to the TOP (if I had it in its box in plastic with paper, THIS COMPLETELY PORTABLE INVOICES COULD HAVE STARTED A FIRE and EVEN ending my life, although I'm living alone, at least, I would have been the only one with such a bad choice)

I AM SO angry BECAUSE I have TAKEN REALLY CARE of this laptop, being my first laptop, bought my own money worked hard and thought that I was using when I need (used either 3 - 4 times per month).

IS IT IS POSSIBLE, I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE TIME AND NEVER CHOOSE TO BUY IT.
I WANT TO GIVE BACK THE LATOP AND GET A REFUND.

There is NO case of CAPS in their only keyboard.

I am writing this message in the time right when there was me, wake up that night that I could have got killed by the PORTEGE R500 with vista.

Please, someone who could HELP SOLVE what could be resolved, help me if you're Toshiba or joing me if you are an affected person as I am.

    Hello

If you've noticed some serious hardware issues with your laptop, you must contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and try to clarify this. They have the procedure and special diagnostic tools how to verify functionality of the laptop.

You have your laptop in front of you and what you can do to change something or test the functionality is BIOS update and clean install of the OS. What else can you do? Not much. So the best advice for you is to contact the nearest authorized maintainer and ask for help. Believe me that it is the best way to clarify all the issues you have with your laptop Portege.

    Good luck!

  • Portege R500 does not start from the XP CD

My basic problem is the following - I have a Portege r500 with Vista on it. I'm moving from Vista to XP Pro, but when I put a bootable XP installation CD in the drive, it turns, looking around for awhile and then I get a blank screen with a cursor blinking on it.

Now, I've done this before, so I know that something is supposed to happen, but nothing don't. And I tried 3 well-known installation CD, is not a problem of CD. Do I need some update BIOS/firmware to boot from the CD on this thing? Or am I missing something?

    Help!

    Thank you.

Often the Portege R500 should be able to boot from the CD/DVD drive and should begin the procedure of installation of the CD Win XP SP2 installation.

But it is a tricky thing.
The Portege R500 needs an Intel (r) Matrix Storage Manager (iMSM). This iMSM is necessary to recognize the HARD drive and install Win Xp on the HARD drive.

I recommend you and create a new CD of Win XP starting with software called nLite to integrate the SP2 of Microsoft and Intel Matrix Storage Manager (iMSM) in Win XP.

You can then use this CD for installation.

  • Portege R500: Cannot restore Vista using Toshiba recovery disks

I downgraded Vista to XP loaded factory.
However, I would now like to restore back to Vista.

    I have disc 1 & 2 ' product Recovery DVD-Rom; Portege R500 disks.
They are also marked "Windows Vista Business (SSD/PATA)" has been provided by Toshiba.

I don't know how to use these discs to restore my operating system to Windows Vista. When I insert disc 1 and after loading some files, a message "cannot read the file source or disk - Preinst2.SWM" and I can not go any further.

An instruction step by step would be greatly appreciated

I wonder why you receive two recovery disks. As far as I know Toshiba Vista Recovery image is stored on a DVD.
Perhaps you have received two CD

In any case, have you tried to boot from the second disk? I mean the second recovery CD?

Usually, recovery is not very sensitive. You must boot from the disc and should follow the instructions on the screen.

The error cannot read from the source file or disk - Preinst2.SWM looks like a little to the Conference on disarmament would not readable or the CD/DVD drive would not read the disc properly.
