DVD/CD-R has stopped working, pilot missing
Hello all-
I searched a little on the forum and read other posts and am always looking for a solution.
I don't think that there is something wrong w / my DVD tray. I think it's because I went to the 'computer' and the DVD is not listed as a reader. I went 'Systems' and DVD/CD-R is not an option to download new drivers.
The DVD player is essentially absent. I've spent at the Microsoft Fix It-link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/ and run the fix - it for me and through the manual steps. I installed the Vista service packs w / no luck.
I have an Inspiron 1721 w / DVD tray, Windows Vista Home Premium operating system.
Not much of a techie, so don't know what other information to include, but happy to be guided through this process. I'd appreciate the help.

Follow the instructions and please copy and paste, then display the results here so that we can better help you. But it sounds like a bad drive. If your Dell printer is under warranty they will send you another drive, you will return the wrong disc with the return label they give. Make it a great day!

This is not an answer to your question but can solve the problem if it is the same that I had.
In my case, the drive tries to spin but it slips. Only the motor shaft rotates and the drive remains at low revolutions that were not even stationary.
The problem was caused by the fact that the plastic part (black color) of the mechanism which engages the disc (CD or DVD) slips on the
motor drive, axle and th couldn't do a full rotation or runs at the specified speed.
The solution is to delete the article in plastic and put a small amount of super glue on the axle and then put it back.Where there is a similar issue, I hope that solve you it like I did.

Anyway, in my opinion, there is a software conflict. I guess players use even modules or plug-ins, and there is a conflict.I put t know what solution can be, but maybe you should remove both players, restart your laptop and make own BD drive in the hope that it will work properly.

The CD/DVD drive is listed in Device Manager? You see an error code?
If the drive is listed in Device Manager, you should try to remove it, and then restart the laptop.Try to load the default settings in the BIOS.
Have you tried to remove the upper and lower filters by yourself? Here is the solution from Microsoft:

My DVD drive used for good work... and then I installed iTunes.
He then worked for a while, but only by using "Run as Administrator".After a few weeks I started getting the message "Toshiba DVD Player has stopped working".

My solution is to remove a Toshiba DVD drive and install VLC player. You can get it for free.
It can play all video formats, and you don't need additional codecs. -

If you didn t do a backup before deleting upper and lower filters that you can t restore it. This could be a bit difficult so, normally, you should always make a backup before you change or delete something in the Windows registry.

DVD player has stopped working
I am running Vista Home Premium. My ATAPI DVD drive has stopped working. Device Manager shows it, drivers are updated, I tried Microsoft Fixit, nothing seems to work. I read about this problem, seems a lot of people have the same problem with no fix, what do I do?
