• Question of EA3500 DHCP Client Reservesion

  Have Win7 and XP systems in my network cable connected to the router. When the IP address of these two systems are not reserved, each computer can see other computers on the network and devices, five in total.

  A good thing that the two systems to get every time same IPs who even had not changed since I upgraded from E1200.

  When I reserve an IP address for each system exactly who they have current, both systems lose the ability to see the other computers on the network. Network shares not affected, I still can access my XP of my 7 box remote distance via RDP by computer name. WDTV Live wireless connected to the router can get/update its IP (no connection problems) but similarly that others cannot see network resources.

  I tried different ways, restarted, finally finished with device reset by pressing the button.

  The next day, I managed to reproduce the problem, but managed to return by the deactivation/activation of the DHCP server.

  Another question, I've had with an external HD connected to the router when some files have been converted to uTorrent files began from that drive. I had to use Unlocker application to be able to remove the converted files. I can just assume that because anonymous access is enabled on the external drive. No problems even when HD connected to PC USB.

  It seems that you have configured the workgroup name in the storage of the router section to match your real working group name.  That caused the router become master of your navigation.  Change the workgroup name in the router to something else.  I use the dummy.  With a mix of XP and Vista or later on the same network the XP machine must be the master of go.

• EA3500 EA4500 PPPOE issue resolved

  The question:

  Usable size MTU packets drop when it is connected to an ADSL Modem in bridge with EA series router connected via PPPOE mode.

  How to identify the issue:

  The router will connect using PPPOE and displays the IP address normally in State. If you are a standard ping www.yahoo.com , it works fine. When you open www.yahoo.com into your browser, it fails. Load the ping www.yahoo.com with packet MTU sizes over 100 fail.

  What are the causes of the problem:

  The current firmware using linux pppd daemon and rp - pppoe.so PPPOE connection library. The version used is ppp - 2.4.4 according to me. Is this version or the Linksys patch files that are at the origin of the problem.

  My tests showed that when the ADSL Modem ethernet port had a different MTU 1500 load pings started to drop quickly and the site navigation Web does not. If the ADSL Modem ethernet port had a MTU of 1500 the problem does not occur.

  The Solution I used:

  Searching the Web I found how to get root SSH access to the router (not really a security risk). I also found the build tools CodeSourcery used to create the firmware.

  With the help of these tools I compiled a version different ppp - 2.4.5 of the library of demon and rp - pppoe.so of pppd. So I swapped the old version to the new version and commented a line off /etc/init.d/serivce_wan/ppp_helpers.sh

  After that, the routers worked perfectly.

  Footnotes:

  I love first of all these routers. They are really great, but this a defect has been a real problem for me and almost prevented me from using Linksys in the future.

  Now that I have a due diligence on its firmware I love him even more.

  Also parental control on the classic firmware is the best I've come across. Does the router indespenible for me and why I when through all the work to find a solution.

  Remember, that assumes that you are running the classic firmware on your EA3500\EA4500. I don't know if it works with Cloud firmware for these routers.

• Recognition of devices with the new firmware on EA3500

  Under devices, I find that my laptop Apple (WIFI connection) and our Dell Desktop (LAN) connection are considered to be the same device.  The operating system shows the EA3500 of this device is the system connections apple IOS and address numbers displayed in this device.  It is therefore impossible to set parental control separately on each computer.  What could I do to get the EA3500 to recognize these separate devices?  I tried to force Apple WIFI network address to another address.  All that happened was the address of device updated on the list of EA3500 devices, but LAN and WIFI addresses remain together in the same device name and MAC OS on the list of devices.

  I have the latest firmware downloaded on my EA3500.  It wasn't a question previously when I ran the old firmware.

  Here is one that I see in the list display the LAN address for the address of Dell and WIFI for Apple on the same devices screen.  When I turn off a device, the respective entry goes.  Only when both computers are turned off reflects the unique device entry on the EA3500 offline.

  This is a bug that comes and goes. Personally, I didn't for a while. But it's still there (even with the latest firmware)... If you catch this bug, it is usually difficult to shake because it can resurface. It affects too EA4500.

  There is no real rhyme or reason why it appears.

  Are the new firmware for the EA3500 without this system of "cloud"?

  I'm still with the original firmware, but I read that there are security issues with this firmware and many fixes have been included in the latest firmware. On some photo post seems to suggest that we could choose either "Cloud" or "regular."

  Your suggestions would be appreciated.

• Practice number of devices for EA3500

  I have a question about a practice number of devices that may be taken in charge for by my EA3500 router.  I currently have 9 devices almost always wirelesly.  My ISP is 20 Mbps down and 5 members to the top. I noticed that the default maximum number of devices is 50, which is extremely high.

  Because all devices are activley download / download continuously, what are your thoughts on a number of devices resoanable.  In my case, three of the devices are used for streaming music/movies (they are the highest priority), the others are for the general internet communication.

  During visits to the family, I could have up to 6 more smart phones that use the connection of comments.

  Any advice?

  The typical rule for residential Linksys routers would be 32 wireless clients. LAN clients can be as much as you have available IP addresses in your DHCP Pool.

  IMO, the reality is that once you get on 30 devices (depending on each load of the device) on a single residential router, they can start to be overworked. To what point adding Wireless Routers\Access Points to a part of the large workload hand router is a good idea. Once you get above 50 devices, you should consider moving in ranges of products SMB as a dedicated router wired (no WiFi) and Access Points. SMB devices are designed to handle workloads higher than residential products and they offer more features like advance VLAN, set subnet IP, Custom, routing, ACL, QOS, and virtual SSID. These technologies give you more control on how bandwidth is used and routed.

  I'm on a macbook pro OSX 10.7.4 and my version of Cisco Connect is 1.4 (12005.2). Version of the firmware on my router is 1.0.30.126544. A screenshot of what I see after having clicked on "Add a device" in Cisco Connect is below. The printer is a HP DeskJet F4280.

  I began to question my purchase of this router, as it was rather costly unitl a mod contacted me and asked me to try to update my firmware again. This time, there was an update available installed tonight firmware Cisco Connect Cloud (version 1.1.38.138143) that I was able to connect my USB printer. I know that this sounds like a commercial of Cisco, but the Cloud Connect software and interface is amazing! It's a management tool complete recommended router on the web making it pretty useless old Cisco Connect.  Cisco thank you, I am happy that I now have a refreshed and awesome router! (which printed on my printer usb too)

• Question of cloning for SSD upgrade on 12 Macbook Pro

  Previously, I did an upgrade to SSD on my Macbook Air to 2012 according to the instructions of JetDrive transcend. Basically connection via USB 3 and using Mac OS X to clear (and format) disc utilities new SSD, then restore again SSD and then remove the original 128 GB SSD and insert the new 480 GB SSD.  For about a month and so far without problem.

  Now I'm trying to 2012 Macbook upgrade my Pro partner (on 10.11.6).  I got a Crucial SSD MX300 to replace his HARD drive.  Crucial comes with (or recommend) Acronis software.  And a lot of the messages of the forum recommend Carbon Copy Clone.

  My question is if I can use the same method for the cloning of the HD as my Macbook Air (just restore disk of Mac OS X utilities)?  This time, I'm upgrading HARD drive and I don't know if something is different.  At the same time, if I got lucky the first time, I don't not ruin Macbook Pro my spouse this time.

  Yes, you can use disk utility to clone your MBP wives, but unlike CCC, it will not clone the recovery and Partition.

• Bootcamp Windows 10 question

  Hi all

  Stumbled upon a problem, try to install Windows 10 an end 2014 27' iMac w/retina education runs Yosemite 10.10.5. Bootcamp is V 5.1.4. 32 GB, 3.5 ghz Intel I5. Disk of 1 TB of Fusion. Before you try this, I read the guide of Bootcamp to install windows, but also a number of other tutorials and forum messages about potential problems. This research, I learned that for EDU edition you must change the name of the file from Win10_1607_Education_English_x64.iso to Win10_1607_English_x64.iso. Apparently to have the former name of the file may cause OS X to not recognize the ISO. That fact I started Bootcamp, waited while the software downloaded and created a bootable USB key and partitioned my drive giving Windows 70 GB of space. After that, I got the message that my computer is restarts. Upon restarting, I got the black screen with the blue Windows logo and a spinning loading animation. After a few minutes, a blue screen with a message "Windows has encountered and error with computer and must restart," or something similar. He was pretty quick, so maybe it's not word for Word, but it was not a helpful post in terms of saying something specific. When the computer reboots, I am sent directly to OS X, though a bit slower than normal. I tried to restart with the flash drive to see if the installer would start up, no dice. Try now the Option key at startup, the flash player is not available. Went into my settings to see if I could change my startup on Win disk install USB, no luck it no more.

  Now for the question: How can I get the Windows installation again? What I have to start the process, and if so, what should I use Bootcamp to delete the partition that was created? I have re-run Bootcamp and the only option that is checked is the partition and start and install/uninstall windows and delete the partition.

  If you use a USB drive, not a USB flash drive, you will have problems. It is recommended to use a 8-16 GB USB2 flash drive.

  If the installation program is located on a USB Flash drive, stop your Mac, connect the USB key, restart and hold down the alt/option key and select the Windows icon in the USB port. This installs Windows in BIOS mode. If you click the start EFI icon, it will install using the EFI mode (faster). You may need to change the partition from MBR to GPT using GPT Fdisk.
