Envy 17-j141na: a USB 3.0 port only works on USB 2.0

Hello

I have a HP Envy 17-j141na (product number: J0C16EA #ABU) running Windows 8.1.  I recently tried to connect a Sata hard drive via a USB 3.0 enclosure and found that the right rear USB port works with a USB 2.0 cable and any USB 3.0.  There is no problem with any of the three other no ports just this one.  Grateful for any help.

Thank you.

Hello Malygris1,

Thank you for your help and suggestions.  I investigated further and found that the problem had become a problem on the port adjacent to the original track and then there are two with the same problem.  I was struggling to believe I had lost a second port and so took risks on the purchase of an another leader of a different even if manufacturer initial lead was again with the Cabinet.  The result was successful with all USB 3.0 ports.  I can only assume that there was a faulty connection in original mind that failed when it was routed to one side of the laptop and not the other.  Thanks again, I'm certainly glad that the fault was not in the computer.

  • HP Envy 17-j141na: recovering a system after 'repair '.

I recently had a hardware failure on my laptop and my backup data and sent it for repair

The only repair option that was given to me is to erase completely and factory to restore the operating system. In fact, what did the repair people has been remove my drive and replace it with a new vacuum waiting to be set up with Windows 8.

Of course, I want to go back to the situation where I have a viable version of my laptop and apparently the only option I have to do is to re - install all software! (I think that 'like', which could take days, I'll have to contact all by software publishers to bring them to re-license a lot of £1000 of software I have on there it will break and I'll have to do it again!)

So I turned off the screen install Windows 8 and completely (and I mean completely) the laptop brick. When it turns on it flashes the caps lock and will not work even BIOS recovery, ignores F10, F2 etc.

I contact support, and they are absolutely insistent, that I'm going to need all reinstall. So I was wondering if anyone knows what is happening.

The system is built around UEFI?

The system has been improved in the UEFI?

I'll be able to go in the installation process of Windows 8, upgrading to 10 and then switch to my old drive?

I will be able to configure the system as Windows 8 and then put in place so that I can dual boot from my old drive?

If I put all this from scratch what steps should I take to avoid this recurring situation.

I am also concerned by what happened to my old drive that came with the laptop. HP support assure me that they treat all the personal in compliance data consider but not have given me any indication whether if the drive that was removed has been removed safely (wipes x 35 times) and reformatted or destroyed. So if it's wrong, yet once I need to find how to partition the data on the laptop, so I can send it without composed of my personal data.

So, am a feeling that I have a laptop that I can not put the data of a personal nature, I can't use it for this purpose, I bought it to left (i.e. to install my software companies and lead by the activities of work at home) and now is just a really expensive browser?

Appreciated by any reflection on a way forward.

    Hello @elcockh,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I read your message and understand that your HP Envy 17-j141na does not work correctly. I have studied the issue and have developed a possible resolution. First of all, please perform a reset. Once this is done, please follow the steps described in this document:

Computers laptops HP - computer won't start (Windows 8)

The system is built around UEFI?

The system has been improved in the UEFI?

The system has UEFI functionality in the BIOS, allowing it to have secure boot and other features.

If you succeed in installing windows 8, and then upgrade to windows 10; then want to install your old drive and it is still in working condition, you can trade. I suggest you perform a clean Windows 10 installation. If you are able to install the old drive in accordance with the specifications of the maintenance and service guide and know how to set up a dual boot and the old drive is in working order, then you can dualboot. The best things to do to avoid that the faulty laptop is to reduce heat and make sure it is updated and perform regular maintenance.

Tips to use, carry and protect your laptop from HP

HP Notebook PC - cleanup your PC laptop

HP computers - tune (Windows 8) slow system performance

HP computers - create a recovery Image on disc or save a recovery Image on a USB Flash drive

If the document does not have you helped to solve the problem, try to restore the BIOS.

Thanks, I look forward to your response with the result.

If this post helped you, feel free to click on the thumbs up!

  • Satellite 1900-303 USB port not working - USB hub?

Hello. Deploy a Satellite 1900-303 with two USB ports. One of the ports stopped working. I guess it's permanently broken. Just browse the site, it seems that the easient of thing to do would be to get a Port Replicator - one of them:

I wanted to know is it just to sink my remaining a USB port, so that I get 4 USB ports (and all others)? What USB speed I would get?

    Thank you!

    Hello

As far as I know the unit supports USB 1.1
So I guess if you are using a USB hub external, USB ports work with USB 1.1 properties.
Maximum data transfer should be 12 Mbps

  • Satellite P10 Series - USB Ports not working not

    Hi - I have a portable series of P10, PSP10E-0RCJM-EN.

Don't know when or how this can happen, but none of my USB ports work integrated.
They are all recognized and installed when you look in the Windows Device Manager.

I am running Win XP Home Edition with SP2 and latest drivers and BIOS downloaded from the Toshiba web site.
I had the hope that it might be a simple device or a driver of motherboard problem, but does not appear.

Using a card PCMCIA USB works very well, but uses only one card slot that I need for other purposes.

    Anyone has more suggestions please?
I hope you can help, impatience of someone soon!

    Hello

Try to remove all the ports from the Device Manager.
Then try to restart the device. After this procedure, the operating system should recognize and install again the USB ports.
It would be very interesting to know if the ports are working properly after this new facility.

  • Equium A60 - 692 USB Ports not working not

Hi all - new to the forum and what a good place to find info on Toshiba laptops. Anyway - after a recent storm, I lost connection to my ISP broadband - contacted the helpline who advised me to Exchange my ADSL modem to an Ethernet - made and corrected the connection problem - however - only after having it done I realize has none of my devices (printer, camera, Web Cam etc.) worked via the USB ports. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the system and drivers for devices without result. The device displays 500ma of power manager is available for each of the 3 ports but watch 0ma used. The Device Manager also shows that the USB ports are working properly. Can someone help or advise if these ports on a separate card or they are part of the motherboard. If Yes, where can I get a. Congratulations to all - Andy

A lighting strike is not good news, if she gets hit by a kind something can go wrong. My guess is that your laptop USB ports has taken suddenly by a massive power surge that probably damaged the chips inside. It could be a Windows problem, or not the only thing I could suggest is to use a bootable Linux such as Knoppix CD and run a command called usbview with some USB devices.
If the USB has been confirmed dead then your only option is to use an adapter CardBus USB 2.0 providing your CardBus slot is not damaged too.

  • 8.1 Windows 64 - bit 3 USB ports not working not

I have a model computer T430s 2352CTO, running Windows 8.1, 64-bit version. Before upgrading Windows 8.0 all drivers have been updated. The USB ports 3 worked properly, in particular an external hard drive of 1 GB running. After the 8.1 update, 3 USB ports work always, but only for about 30 seconds, then the hard drive stops. The power led remains on the hard drive, but it no longer displays in windows Explorer.

In Device Manager, I'm gone to Bus USB-> USB controllers Root Hub-> properties-> (under general it says "this device does not work correctly)-> Power Management-> unchecked the box"allow the computer to turn off this device to save energy. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to stop the problem. Any ideas?

  • HP a6554f: Front USB Ports not working for a6554f

Hi, I cleaned the dust from my computer yesterday for the first time because the computer kept crashing. I removed the motherboard, so I unplugged everything that was clinging to her and I also removed the hard drive then plugged everything once I had finished, (do not know if I just plugged in as it was, even if I took a video of it, but the wasen can't good quality so I had to guess a little). I also added thermal compound to the cpu.

Anyway, everyhting seems to work except the 2 usb ports front of the case. It was working fine until I opened the case (this is why I do not open the computers, but the dust was just too). The audio ports and microphone located in the front work correctly. And the rear USB ports are working properly.

What I've done so far is running pilot Booster and also I went to Device Manager > USB Bus controllers, then I turned off everything on the list, then allowed them again. And nothing has worked.

I don't know much about computers so I don't want to go to the hassle of opening the case cause once again I was scared lol but could I maybe hooked up a cable in the port of fake?

Also, is there a diagram to show where each cable goes to the a6554f model?

As you pointed out the audio before and MIC ports are working, then it might be just the plug for the ports before USB is not properly or is in the wrong place.  Here is a page that relates to the motherboard. In the lower right corner of the image or the page layout scheme, there are two blocks header before normally taken into USB ports.  Says F_USB1 and F_USB2.  Either we must work to the front ports.  Check to make sure that the wiring box beam (which has the wires going to the front USB ports) is connected on one of them.

  • Envy 15 3033 cl USB 3.0 no Worky

    Hi all

I'm 15 3033 cl and I recently provided an image the PC with a new copy of Win 7 64. The only problem I have is that the USB 3.0 Renesas driver does not work. I get the little yellow triangle and States that she was able to start.

None of the 3.0 ports work. Just the single 2.0 on the right side.

I found the latest drivers and firmware and none of them seem to do the trick.  I checked the bios and I can't yet settle the 3.0 ports to work as just 2.0.

    Things I've done:

    Bios update

Caught previous drivers and new drivers.

    Uninstalled/Reinstalled several times

Several reboots after re-installing the drivers

    All windows updates

Tired of a few different drivers.

I can't work with a single USB port. All the suggestions that I have not tried would be useful. Thank you

    GOOD NEWS, it's corrected now.

It seemed to be a firmware issue and a driver problem. It lacked a USB 3.0 Hub. I got the solution here.

  • HP-envy-17-j141na

    Hello

I have a few questions on a laptop, I think of buying, so all the answers would be great.

    This is the laptop:

    http://store.HP.com/UKStore/merch/product.aspx?ID=J0C16EA&opt=Abu&SEL=PCNB#merch-customer-reviews

It's apparently only a computer portable 2g activated, this means the work of the internet (broadband mobile exc) slower?

I read some reviews and they do say that wifi is only 2g.  (http://www.very.co.uk/hp-envy-17-j141na-intelreg-coretrade-i7-processor-12gb-ram-1tb-hard-drive-8gb-... What does that mean? This means that there no 3g (mobile broadband) capabilities built in. Does this mean that the internet does not work as fast on this laptop if I use general wifi or ethernet hub. Because I thought it meant that I could not connect to the servers of 3g on the road without a stick to mobile broadband. Basically it will be just as fast as anything else if I use hub home or ethernet connection.

What is the speed of the processor?

Is it fair to 2.5 GHz, or is it 2.5 GHz with the 3.5 GHz. Web Site said its 3.5 Ghz mode: http://www.johnlewis.com/hp-envy-17-j141na-laptop-intel-core-i7-12gb-ram-1tb-17-3-silver/p1585645

Site does not say that it is:

    http://store.HP.com/UKStore/merch/product.aspx?ID=J0C16EA&opt=Abu&SEL=PCNB#merch-customer-reviews

Not important, but why is it £100 cheaper on the hp site, and where he is release date?

Thank you very much for any answer

    Oliver

2g / 3g / 4g only refers to the wireless cell phone, no wifi. This laptop is 802.11n 2 x 2, which means that it works in the 2.4 and 5 ghz spectrum and data transfers at up to 300 Mbps on the 5 ghz band. The wireless is fast enough. But he doesn't have a cell type built-in wireless, wifi only.

The processor is capable of 3.5 ghz mode.

I can't say why HP price its products where they are, but the envy 17-j100 series is out for perhaps 6 months. It is a current machine, perfectly up-to-date. It is not a computer game but he has better than average video performance and a high end processor is a computer 'rapid '.
