eSATA - No. Hotswap - connected disks go to sleep - BSOD

Hello Forum,

I have a 700 HP Envy nine-215xt, under Windows 7 Home Premium.

I bought an eSATA bracket so I can hotswap two external drives.  DISC 1 is a 1 TB SAMSUNG drive in an envelope by Acomdata.  DISC 2 is a portable 250 GB Hitachi drive in a simple box without a name.

PROBLEM #1

Both drives are fine under Windows if they are attached and powered on before starting the system.  Neither readers appear at all when turned on when the computer is already started.  Go into Device Manager and selecting ' scan for changes material does nothing.»  The only way to put the reader available to the OS is to restart the computer.  It's very disappointing.  I thought eSATA was supposed to be hotswappable.

Given that both drives worked exactly as expected on my Win XP machine, I suspect it has to do with the motherboard or BIOS settings.  Please help me to get this function to work.

PROBLEM #2

Even when discs are recognized by the operating system, after a few minutes of inactivity, the drive SAMSUNG "goes to sleep".  I can actually hear it turn down.  When I try and access the files by the bias of the Explorer or any other application, I hear the disc upward rotation and I have to wait on the order of 15 to 20 seconds for the player to wake up to the top.

I even got a few BSODS, especially when I try to shut down the computer, while the Samsung drive is asleep.  I have to do something to wake up the drive before I can close.

Where are the settings for me turn off this behavior annoying?

Thanks for your help,

-Steve

eSATA on the HP PC depends on what sound plugged in.

If you have an external PCIe card, this will be hotswap card permitting. There is nothing in the motherboard to stop this, its external controller and will work as such.

If your external esata card is simply a port with a cable going to one of your sata ports, then you will need to have it's going to a labeled esata port on the motherboard or a sata port that allows you to select internal or external in the bios.

Not all HP is very forgiving in this regard. I have an Elite 8200 CMT at work and who has an esata port. We have an external caddy inside with two bays, but we can only use a given the limitations of this Council. And ports sata on this forum cannot be selected as external.

There is a setting in Connection Manager > Preferences > power to the device , which CAN be assigned to turn off the wireless / Bluetooth when you have left the connection manager.  You must Select / SET parameter.  You can see, just in case...  I never heard talk of the Connection Manager turn off wireless, unless it was to make it to the exit.

You can do the following in the Device Manager to leave the power to the wireless and Bluetooth devices:

Control Panel > display icon > Device Manager > network adapters >

Right click on the WiFi link (Intel) (wording may vary) >

    in Properties > Powermanagement >

Clear the check BOX "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

    Ok

    Do the same for Bluetooth...

  • Problem getting my WiFi connection after the mode 'sleep'

After my computer wakes from sleep mode, I click on my WiFi network every time to get on the internet.  If I restart my computer, it detects my WiFi network and connects ok.  It's just at the time when it wakes from sleep.  I tried many solutions that people have posted for example to remove some files from my SystemConfig., but have had no luck.

    Hi joycefromil,

I understand that your Mac has problems automatically re-login to a Wi - Fi saved after wake up from its sleep. I can understand the concern here; It seems that it would be a bit tedious to have to re - connect manually whenever you wake your Mac from sleep. I'm happy to help you with this problem.

As a first step, try to remove your Wi - Fi network in the preferred networks list and then add again using the steps here:

macOS Sierra: choose the preferred Wi - Fi networks

Try to test for the problem to see if it persists. If so, I recommend that you try to start your Mac in safe mode and test for the issue. Once you're done test in safe mode, restart your machine normally and try test again to see if the problem has been resolved.

If the problem persists in safe mode, try to create a test on your Mac user account to see if the problem is here. This will help to further isolate the issue. Take a look at this Web site for more information:

The Mac will go through the list looking for networks to connect to in the order that they are in the list.  Reduce the size of the list and make sure that those you really want is near the top of the list.

  • No internet connection after hibernation or sleep.

Hi group, hope you can help me.  When I wake this computer from sleep or hibernation, I have no internet connection.

Activation of the troubleshooting tool tells me I have an ethernet cable disconnected, I don't of course.

I remember, when you use the beta version of the windows operating system 7, I did not encounter this problem.  So now I find myself having to restart every time I come out of standby or sleep.

    Any ideas one?

    Thank you

  • Windows 8 I lose the internet connection after waking from sleep mode

My wife has a new laptop from Toshiba with Windows 8. When he wakes from sleep mode, it detects all wireless signals. If it restarts the computer, it detects our own wireless, as well as all the neighbors signal. Is there a simple way to correct this trend? She dislikes having to reboot the computer whenever she wants to use it.

Very interesting what's happening on a new machine. Are you sure the original wireless network card driver has not been updated (i.e. through Windows Update or its equivalent at Toshiba?)

I guess that the wireless network card driver doesn't handle well "message sent" by the system when it changes the power state change leading to a 'dormant' device (in this case the WiFi network) on the revival of the fashion Watch (same problem with the Hibernate?).

Not knowing your model Toshiba, or wireless network card let me suggest you try the following if options exist for 1 # *:

    1. Go to the section of the network adapters and Device Manager. Right-click your wireless card, and select Properties. Go to the power management tab, uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device and check allow this device to wake the computer , and then save your changes
    2. Go to the control panel and Power Options to change the parameters of the plan (for the selected power Plan), and then select change advanced power settings / wireless adapter / power save Mode / connected and select value is A maximum Performance otherwise affect this value

    * Not sure about my translation of terms/options used above - I am not in an American version

If the above does not help I'd you make investigations with Toshiba on this issue as the owner of a new machine, you're probably eligible for a level of support.

+ Feel free to bring your network card and Toshiba models - this helps in search of possible measures and troubleshooting. And it could help other people if solve you the problem sooner or later...

    Hope this helps

    See you soon

  • Portege R830-10R: No. USB connection after recovery from sleep mode

    Nice day!

I have experienced the problem depending on my Portege R830-10R for a long time.

Quite often, when he recovers as soon as "sleep" mode it loses the ability to recognize USB devices and built-in 3G modem does not work as well.

After awhile, like 10-15 minutes of work (or), the problem is solved by itself, but normally, it is not the case.

If I try to send the laptop to Hibernate or "standby mode" again, while this problem is active, allows to say, it not put into hibernation and crashes on a midway with a black screen - so I have to stop it manually, and then start again.

Normally, the only way to solve the problem is to restart, but the issue comes after the next "standby".

Someone has something like this? Any solution available?

    Hello

    > Quite frequently, when he recovers as soon as "sleep" mode it loses the ability to recognize USB devices and built-in 3G modem does not work as well.

Have you noticed this behavior from the first day of purchase?

Only special USB devices assigned as USB flash memory stick or USB HDD or are
other devices such as the USB mouse or USB keyboard has also affected?

  • Why my wifi doesn't connect after the mode 'sleep'?

When I close the lid on my laptop and open it again my wifi does not connect unless I reboot. I have recently installed windows 8 and that's when the problem ensued. My laptop is a hp envy 15-3247nr with all windows 8 drivers installed and updated including the BIOS. It's okay I'm trying, my wifi option remains grayed out even to disable airplane mode. The f12 key stays orange and does not come on until I restart my laptop in a couple times. Help, please.

(all drivers are up-to-date and in working order and Yes, the power of the network adapter settings have been changed to not save energy)

Yes, I tried the utility intel to uptate pilot and he was one of the network drivers and windows 8 but when I tried to install it, an error message would come to saying that I had so he couldn't install the supported operating system.

And Yes, I went into the bios and set all my settings to the default values and after that point it began to work.

what I specifically made back my driver of network to an earlier version, and then I went into my bios and changed my setting of network adapter the opposite of what they were (activated or deactivated the opposite), restarted my computer (does not solve my computer), so then I went back into the bios and reset all settings to the default values, and after this point is at the beginning of my wifi to connect without having to restart my computer and so far so good.

  • How to p2v server with FC HBA connected disks?

    IM new to vmware.

Our ESX 4.0 environment is connected to an EMC CX4 via CF system.  I cut a couple SATA LUNS and attached to our ESX environment and have successfully P2V had some servers on data warehouses, I created on these LUNS.

Now, I have a server that has 2 FC HBA connected to a brocade switch.  This server has its 'E' drive mapped to a LUN SAS on the CX4 by fiber, using EMC Powerpath.

I want this server P2V, but once that one would P2V, how to reconnect the drive "E"?  Can the VM also use the HBA using the ESX servers?  (don't know how I would want that area...)

Can I move the LUNS for the server in the same zone as the LUNS ESX and they use a ROW for this virtual machine?  If I do this, VMware reformat this LUN?

    Any advice?

    Thank you!

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Can I move the LUNS for the server in the same zone as the LUNS ESX and they use a ROW for this virtual machine?  If I do this, VMware reformat this LUN?

Yes, it's exactly what you can do.  Formatting of this storage wouldn't be a problem if you tried to add storage as a data store, as opposed to add as a RDM.

    Good luck!
