File Explorer shows on taskbar, but it may never been seen

I noticed that shortly after that I upgraded Windows 8.1 little matter what I do, I can't view the file Explorer.  It appears on the taskbar, but I can never do appear to see.  I can't alt - tab to it.  I can't click on it.  I can't make it appear from the desktop or the start screen.  I can't press Windows-E.  Nothing works.  Nothing.  I'm amazed that I don't see something so fundamental.  I had installed FileLocator Pro after Windows 8.1 upgrade but I uninstalled.  iTunes updated, but it's hard to believe that would prevent work files Explorer.  It's incredibly frustrating.  I even tried old stuff like alt-space-m to move the window but that doesn't work either.

Nothing works.

You have a taskbar, then explorer.exe should run.  Knowledge of what he can do.  For example Start Menu?  Run... dialogue?  Press Win - R if you can not open using a mouse.  In all cases, try to open a window of the Explorer via the shell: desktop (for example).

You can also do it from a cmd window raised with that as an argument.  Go to a directory where you can find so there is no question about your Path environment variable.  In particular, please note that when you open a cmd window high will probably be positioned to C:\Windows\System32\ where there is no explorer.exe.

To check that you can enter a pipeline command (either as root or %windir%):

C:\>dir explorer.exe/s/b | find/i/v "winsxs".

Otherwise, given the expected directory you would be either in a high cmd window you can just enter:

CD...

and then

Explorer.exe shell: Desktop

(to run from C:\Windows\)

The idea of using a cmd window high is to maximize your chances to find a workaround and maximize the possibility of obtaining a usable diagnosis.  If you don't get enough clues to messages in the cmd window you already know in the case of transactions; even better run ProcMon to see what is happening and what is a failure.

Thank you for starting your own thread.  Clearly your symptoms differ significantly from another poster in the other thread.

  • FavIcons not showing correctly in the file Explorer, but display correctly in Internet Explorer.

Please note: this is the opposite of what people usually describe their problem in.

    I have Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

My favicon display correctly in the Explorer of files (file mode) but display correctly in Internet Explorer. This intrigues me. When I open the Internet Explorer, icons for Favorites OK show to the left of the name of the shortcut file in the Favorites bar and the Favorites bar. However, when I open Windows File Explorer and check out my favorites and folders, the FavIcons are the generic icons globe, not specific icons to websites that shortcuts point to. The links work well. It's just that the FavIcons are generic globes. (Not all, but many). I want the correct FavIcons to show in the view of Windows File Explorer.

I tried to revisit web sites and dragging the URL (and favicon) of the bar of address of IE in the "Favorites" folder again. Who has not solved the problem. I tried to go to the page of the site and to type the favicon.ico extension and save it, but windows won't let me save it. (Where can they be saved? And how would be attributed to the shortcut in the file Explorer file? Or is it not the way to solve the problem?)

Is there a way to fix this without having to download an app/program? Is there a way to solve this problem without changing the registry? Or is the simple registry change?

I want the correct Favicons to display in the file Explorer, and Internet Explorer.

I searched and found the answer. Also, I realized I had encountered this problem about two years ago and had saved the info of the solution in a Notepad file. On the site, the answer given by Chris H is the solution. It is to delete the icon cache of .db database and allowing windows to create a new. My problem was that the favicons for several favorite shortcuts of IE showed the purple globe (ugly) credits. After that I deleted the icon cache database file, a new file has been created and my favicons are correct for each shortcut.

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-desktop/some-desktop-icons-appear-as-broken-icons/05abcead-adb1-43ba-9BB7-e308d0cc83a4

(Both methods are given in the he.) I list the instructions for the first method, which worked for me. You can click on this page for more information).

There are a few things you can try:

    First: (icon Cache regeneration)

    1. open Folder Options to select (round) display the hidden files and folders.
    2. open a Windows Explorer window.
    3. go to C:\Users\(User Name) \AppData\Local
    4. right click on IconCache.db and click on delete.
    5. click on Yes to confirm the deletion.
NOTE: This deletes the file to the trash. It is safe to empty the trash when you are done.
    6. close the window.
    7 empty the trash.
    8 restart the computer.
    9. When you return, you'll notice the size of the file IconCache.db is reduced, and the update is now the current date.
NOTE: If for some reason any IconCache.db isn't there or the size has not changed much, then just restart the computer again. You may need to restart a few times in some cases.
    10. the icon cache has been rebuilt.
    11. Open Folder Options to select (round) do not show the hidden files and folders.

  • Firefox shows upwards on the taskbar but will not maximize when clicking on window

I tried re installation, but when I click the icon it will appear on the taskbar but will not maximize.

It is a more detailed explanation of the above.

Sometimes, a window is "off the screen" somehow. Often, you can force it to appear on the screen by right clicking on the thumbnail image just above the taskbar and choose expand. Does it work?

A possible cause for this is that the file that stores the positions and sizes of window is corrupt.

#1 method: If you can get a zoomed window:

Open the settings folder (AKA Firefox profile) current Firefox help

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > troubleshooting information
    • (menu bar) Help > troubleshooting information
    • type or paste everything: in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table of the page, click on the view file"" button. This should launch a new window that lists the various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

Leave this window open, switch back to Firefox and output, either:

    • "3-bar" menu button > button "power".
    • (menu bar) File > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishing its cleanup, then rename xulstore.json to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename this to localstore.old.

Launch Firefox back up again. Windows normally appear again?

#2 method: If you can not get a Firefox window for all:

Close Firefox by right clicking the icon in the taskbar > close all windows.

Using the Run dialog box (windows key + R) or the search for the start bar menu (or Windows 8.1 may bar charms bar research?) type or paste the following and press ENTER to drill down to the profiles folder:

    %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Here you can see a folder - in this case, double-click that - or more than one case - in this case, double-click on in what looks like the most recently updated.

Scroll down and rename xulstore.json to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename this to localstore.old.

Launch Firefox back up again. Windows normally appear again?

How can I fix this error.

Media Center worked fine until I installed SP3.

    Hello

I imagine the inconvenience that you have experienced, but don't worry, we are here to help solve the problem and guide you in the right direction.

Ehshell.exe is a Windows system file that is used to run Microsoft Media Center. It is not a critical system file. However, the ehshell.exe file can become infected and cause errors trying to run certain programs. If the ehshell.exe is absent, it can also cause errors. Reinstall a clean copy of ehshell.exe with the Microsoft System Restore.

    (a) click on the "Start" menu, then click on "programs". Scroll down and click on "Accessories," then "system tools." Click "System Restore."

    (b) click on 'Next' in the system restore window to view a list of points of restoration which has been archived.

    (c) select a restore point created before the ehshell.exe file becomes corrupt or got deleted. If no restore point until this time is listed, click on "Show restore points more" to select the one that is before this date. Click 'Next' to choose which restore point.

    (d) click on 'Finish' to start the system restore. The computer will restart once the process is complete and the ehshell.exe file is reinstalled.

If the problem persists, follow these steps:

You try to run the following commands to re-register all Media Center services:

    (a) close Media Center

    (b) click on the start menu, choose run and type cmd , and then press ENTER.

    (c) in the command prompt, run the following commands to type (or copy/paste) the one at a time and press on enter:

    · Regsvr32.exe atl.dl

    · C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehl Sched /unregServer

    · C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehSched/service

    · C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr /unregServer

    · C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr/service

    · C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRec.exe /unregServer

    · C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRec.exe/regserver

    · C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehmsas.exe /unregServer

    · C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehmsas.exe/regserver

    · Restart the Media Center

Hope this helps and let us know if you need more assistance. We will be happy to help you.

  • File Explorer very show to create a file progress bar list - Green

Saw this question in many variations, but never seen really useful or a response from the authority.

You have this problem with FILE Explorer, not Internet explorer on Vista and Windows 7, but it does not appear in XP.

I have folders with large files Nexe (between 4000 and 7000 jpg and TIFF files in a folder) on the SAMBA shares on a Gbit LAN network.

On a XP machine, a list of files is build in 2-3 seconds in the file Explorer. In Vista and W7, it may take up more than 1-2 minutes! A green bar crawls on top of the file Explorer. I have no idea why this is happening, but it seems NOT linked to the search indexer, that deleting the jpg as a file type files does not solve the problem. Construction of a cache of thumbnails? Unlikely, because it would only slow the first time.

Please, can someone give me a tip of how improve it, because it's really slow me down in my daily work.

    HiMartin Koster,

When you search for files in Windows 7 that is connected to the local network it would slowly start to display the file rather than display all the files at the same time as in Windows XP.

I suggest that you divide files in large quantity in several files and then check if the problem persists.

  • File Explorer Windows 7 shows a non-empty folder in a vacuum.

Here's a question that I have no idea how to fix on a Home Premium Windows 7 box. I copied 110 GB of data in a folder named "c:\old disks" earlier. All files where showing well after the copy was completed. Then a few months later, I noticed that I no longer see these files inside this folder in the file Explorer. When I get home, the Explorer displays message "this folder is empty" in the files Panel. The verification of the drive, set all Full permissions and made all the accessible files writable. No go! At the command prompt, I can navigate the tree of directories very well, see all of the files, their sizes, etc.. Watch File Explorer also, that the record is 110 GB in size. So clearly it is not empty. It shows again, no file or directory inside. Please indicate how I can activate the file Explorer view the contents of this folder? I've never seen this problem before on all versions of Windows OS, I can't find much info related to this problem on the net.

I initially reported above. Since then, I solved the problem by going to the command line and the removal of an attribute hidden on all files in this folder tree. All files have shown right after this process completed.

If memory serves, the command line in my case has been
    H + a "disks c:\old" ATTRIB / s

To be honest I have to say that I tried all the suggestions in the present and similar threads on this issue, related to the permissions as well. Not sure whether that contributed to the outcome, but the command line above was what finally brought everything back to life.
I hope this works for others,
