Help to set up Windows 10

Original title: Mrs

I am 83 years old and have no one to help me - other that employ a technician to set Windows 10 for me. I get up to a certain point, until it says RUN, but I can't find where this word is. Or this ENTRY average?

If you are not comfortable installing Windows 10 yourself, check with a local retail or the services of the PC company store to see if they offer upgrade services.

Task of pre-required

When you make significant changes to your computer for example updated operating system, you must always back up. See the links to resources on the backup by clicking the link for each version of Windows you are using: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1

  • HP ENVY 750-175se: stuck on "Set up Windows" - fresh install of Windows 7

    Hello

I have a new install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my desktop HP Envy. I installed myself, everything went well. However, now when I am setting up Windows (on the screen where it says "Select a username for your account and your computer name to distinguish it from the network"), the keyboard nor the mouse work.

The mouse on the background light is on and both work until I have start Windows (ie. the BIOS) and both are plugged into the USB 2.0 ports. I tried different USB ports around the system, but that did not work at this stage (well that as well the mouse and keyboard worked for the previous points of the facility before the restart brought me to this screen). I tried to disable Legacy Support in the BIOS, but that only returns an error message saying "Boot Device Not Found". I tried another keyboard that I know works on other systems, no difference here. I did research online that some users recommend using a PS/2 keyboard, but there is no port for a on this machine. I'm literally not to penetrate into my operating system, but none of the USB devices work. I've also seen suggestions about how to disable of EHCI or XCHI driver settings Pre-boot in the BIOS but I can't even find those on this BIOS. So maybe someone knows I am missing a setting in BIOS that can help me out here or something? Thank you!

    Hello:

Here is what, in my view, the problem is...

Intel has removed support for USB 2.0 chipset chipset Skylake.

This means that only USB or normal DVD installs windows 7 will not work.

Microsoft Windows 7 ISO not the USB 3.0 drivers natives either.

Therefore, add USB 3.0 drivers in Windows ISO.    Intel has on it.  They have a utility that does all the work for you.

    https://Downloadcenter.Intel.com/download/25476/Windows-7-USB-3-0-creator-utility

Run the utility and point your support Installation USB and windows 7 above should install.

There is a readme on the link above for instructions on how to convert your DVD in a bootable usb flash drive.

  • Windows 7 - preparation set up windows. Do not turn off.

I got this new toshiba laptop with windows 7 and it starts up and started using it. activated the 30 days free trial norton, surfing the internet and worked on some pictures for my sister. When I went to close it it says something like "installation 59 updates ' he has done fast enough, then it turned off. I went to meet my sister and when I turned on the laptop, he said 'preparation set up windows. do not turn off"he was stuck on this for hours, about 2 or 3. I thought that maybe he was stuck so I turned it off. I turned it back and he was still stuck on this same configuration screen. I turned off then turned it back and went into safe mode. I did a restore to before the updates 59 which was only a few hours earlier. I restarted the laptop and it looked pretty good. then I noticed he was saying something about the norton is maybe defective. he wouldn't let me turn on the antivirus and firewall. he wouldn't let me enter the network. I can't get on the internet basically can't do anything. It seems to work, but it is not. now, whenever I stopped it it starts to install the updates and when I start it again, it goes to the preparation set up the screen. I even left it for a day and a half on the screen configuration and nothing. What is the problem with my laptop brand new?

Usually a single word explains what causes these problems - Norton !
Is the laptop still under warranty? If so, Toshiba needs then provide support for problems with the operating system.

Instead of contact Toshiba, then through the dance where they try to blame Microsoft and will not help you, if the laptop is a recent purchase so I suggest you press on press F8 key just after you press the power button.
If you do not press F8 in time then Windows 7 will attempt to load and you will have to wait until she did try to do.
Shut down the laptop and reboot again, by pressing F8 to only a Boot Menu appears.

In the upper-left corner of the Start Menu should be a link to repair your computer .
    Choose this option.
The System Recovery Options window should now appear. This is what it will look like - What are the system recovery options windows 7?
At the bottom of this list there should be a Toshiba provided option that will allow you to do a clean/restore Windows 7 install.
If she's not here so Toshiba should have provided you with a recovery with which disk you can boot up the laptop and then access the system recovery.

Do a clean reinstall of Windows 7 (a format of the hard drive) and the installation of Windows 7.
Once you have done this, and the system has rebooted for the last time, uninstall all Norton products immediately by clicking on the start ORB,
in the field of research to install type.
Under control panel, click on the link "view the programs that are installed on your computer.
After you have uninstalled the Norton "tricks", restart the system.

Update the computer laptop now, install the updates offered in groups of 10 only ! Yes it's more slow their installation at once, but... you already know the result to install all updates at once, right?

When all updates and required reboots are finished, suggest you only install the freeMicrosoft Security Essentials or Avast.
Both are valid antivirus programs, and both are compatible with Windows 7.

    Hi Gronfors,

Try to start the computer in safe mode do a system restore and check if it works very well.

To start in safe mode follow the link given below.

Start your computer in safe mode

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

If you are able to boot to the desktop in mode safe mode try Method 1 if one does not work follow method 2.

    Method 1:

Navigate to the specified location and delete the files, and then try to boot into normal mode

    c:\windows\winsxs\reboot. XML

    c:\windows\winsxs\pending. XML

Once you boot to normal mode try to install the updates one by one and check if Windows update terminates the process.

    Method 2:

If the above given step does not work try it to perform a restore of the system in safe mode and check if that helps. Follow the steps below.

You can perform a restore of the system on the computer to restore the previous settings again.

For more information follow the link below.

    System Restore: frequently asked questions

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/system-restore-frequently-asked-questions

Once the system restore try to boot to the desktop in normal mode and check if updates work fine. Try to install the updates one at a time.

  • Problem of multiple windows. Windows update 0% complete, "ready to set up Windows. "Please do not turn off your computer", etc.

Hi all, I have recently experienced some of the problems reported here: - Windows update doesn't work (stuck at 0% for the hours) - Windows cannot stop ("preparing to set up Windows. Please don't turn off your computer") - MSE is out of date - I can't unzip files - some programs no longer work - I just can't stop some services (like Windows update). It times out. etc... I have Win7 X 64, and the last update that has worked with success has been about 3 weeks ago. Thanks for your help!

Just bought a new Sony Vaio with windows 7 installed and went to windows updates, as they recommended. Updated and said to reboot. Now he's stuck saying prearing to set up windows. Not turned off your computer. Help please...

    Hello

Welcome to Microsoft Windows 7 answers Forum!

Here you need to start your computer in safe mode and do a system restore.

Start the computer in safe mode and check the number.

Follow this link provided below to start your computer in safe mode.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

You have to try to perform a system restore to go back to the work settings, to do that follow the instructions below:

    1) click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    (2) in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next.

    (3) in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

    4) click Finish.

If you still have the problem then we will try to reset the windows update components and find the number.

You must follow the link provided below to run the fixit which will automatically fix the problem if you find problems with the fixit, then you can follow the procedure to manually reset Windows component update.

How to reset the Windows Update components?

    http://support.Microsoft.com/default.aspx/KB/971058

    3. Select updates but let me choose whether to download and install them. When you have finished setting options that you want, press the OK button to save these settings. You will now be at the main screen of Windows Update.

    4. in the left pane, click check for updates, and then wait while Windows searches the latest updates for your computer.

    5. you can then download the updates one or both.

    6. click on install updates to install updates currently selected.

    7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until you get all the updates you want on your PC.

  • How do I set up Windows mail to work with an iphone5 in mode 'hot spot' as the internet connection.

My internet is now via an iphone5 used as a hot spot.  How can I set up Vista "windows mail" to use with this? I've always used Windows mail when I had a high traditional rural snail speed dial and would still do that?  Thanks for any help you can offer!

The hotspot just iPhone connects you to the Internet, the e-mail application does not really know the difference (as much as he knows, he might as well be a Starbucks WiFi at the coffee shop).

It seems that you are properly connected to the hotspot, but that your e-mail program is not configured to download emails to iCloud.  Your hotspot is actually not related to that.  The mail app will download mail, regardless of how you connect to the web.

To set up your e-mail to iCloud program, you'll want to go to the account options in the e-mail software and add your iCloud account.

See: How to add or remove a Windows mail account

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/add-or-remove-a-Windows-mail-account

While you are on this page, do not forget knowledge more under the "Add account, end to end", which includes images and examples to help you set up the account.

After that, you should start getting your email into the Windows Mail program.
