How to stop a virtual machine to automatically close after a period of inactivity

I have a VM 2012 server acting as a domain controller in a test environment.  I do not work on it a lot, but he must run as I work on test VMs (W7 and W8).

The problem is after a period of inactivity, the server vm stop all services and stops.  I did some research and found some vague allusions to a script that can be changed in vmware tools, but I am not able to start a GUI tools to look at again.  I have re-installed the tools, but still cannot open any type of interface to work with the tools, and I don't even know if this is the right place to resolve this problem.

Also has anyone seen this problem?

What is a facility properly licensed and activated Windows Server 2012?

  • Automatically remove virtual machines for VDI pool after the period of time

Use us Vmware View 5.0 but soon move to 5.2 and have need features to automatically remove all the virtual machines in the pool selected after a certain period of time. We are at disposal VDI for a project that will end for 3 months and after this time, we want to remove this VMs automatically. Is this possible?

It depends a bit exactly what you want to do, but you can plan everything a powercli-script to remove the virtual desktop at a certain time.

Another option that I usually prefer is to manage the rights with the ad groups.

So when you want to revoke a users access to a desktop computer, simply remove the user from the group, which should be easy to do with a script.

    We use ESXi 5.5.

When the VMware tools are installed you can do a gracefull shutdown (Stop-VMGuest) within the guest where OS the obligation for the VMware tools.

The next option is to stop the virtual machine (VM-Stop), with what would be the power button on a physical computer.

  • How to resize a virtual machine using vSphere client

    Hi all

I have a virtual computer on an ESXi 4 server but I am not able to resize. So far I have stop the virtual machine in vSphere client, selected the settings then went to Hard Disk 1, Disk Configuration section everything is gray so cannot be changed. The type is listed as thick and the version of virtual machine is 7. How can I go on the increase in the size of the disk of this virtual, or any other machine also?

    Thank you

    Jamie

Remember that you cannot increase the size of a disc if there is a snapshot, but if the option is gryed out, it looks more like a permissions issue.  You do that connected directly to the host of ESXi, or through vCenter?

  • I get an error "the disk hard virtual parent is in a saved state. Discard the saved state or stop the virtual machine and try again. "during the installation of XP mode.

I have Win7 Pro SP1 x 64.  I downloaded WindowsXPMode_en - us.exe (from Microsoft downloads) and run it.  The installation seems to work OK (I've specified a different location for the parent virtual hard disk file).  Then, installation happening and I provide the information requested (name of user and password for the XP Mode), updates Windows and OK to the issue of sharing.  The installation program then reports the following error:

The disk hard virtual parent is in a saved state.  Discard the saved state or stop the virtual machine and try again.

I get the error even if I try manually configure XP Mode (use the Setup Wizard).  I downloaded the installer XPMode (3 times) and reinstalled several times, always with the same result.  If it helps, I can't locate anywhere .vsv file.

  • How to move the virtual machine from one cluster to another cluster

How to move the virtual machine from one cluster to another cluster

If two Clusters are in the same data center, you could do a 'live' migration or vMotion, if that's the case.   If the virtual machine is turned off, it may be migrated regardless of the data center.

  • How to save a virtual machine before you remove the disc

Very new to VMWare, with Essentials 5.5 the VSphere Client.  I have a virtual machine, I would like to remove from the disk, but want to copy, in the cases where I need to turn the crank upward once again, the host before the withdraw. Is it fairly easy to achieve?  However, I have to remove the inventory, by copying the file to the vm from the data store, add it to the inventory then disconnected the floppy again.  Would support this work if I already needed to put the virtual machine?

    Thanks for any idea!

You can download the files of the virtual directory of the data store computer and that you need to remove the inventory, just stop the virtual machine to release the locks on files.

  • How to access the virtual machines to different physical network?

    Hello

I'm new to ESXi, can someone tell me how can I access virtual machines on the physical network existing in case I use different IP classes? Physics of the network by using the class C IPs and I assigned IPs to virtual machines of class A? If it is possible, then, what are the steps?

In fact, I installed exchange 2010 VMs and also want to access the email accounts of physical network.

    Thank you.

    vmjunki wrote:

You mean there's no way in ESXi to configure the way so we can access the virtual machines to physical network? without third-party applications.

Because it is impossible for the various networks IP connect without a router, you must have such a device. There is really no difference in that in a pure virtual or physical environment.

You might think the ESXi host as a box with one or more servers (virtual) inside and one or more layer (virtual) two switches, just like a small server room. This means you will need to provide the same type of connectivity that you would have to a new server room with machines configured with addresses in a different IP network range.

  • How to use a virtual machine that requires more physical memory that I have?

A colleague send me a Linux VM, he built on a machine with much more physical memory 4 GB I have in my Macbook Air.  When I started the virtual machine in Fusion, he said that the more physical memory virtual machine that I had and suggested that this would reduce the memory for the virtual machine to 3 GB.  I said OK and the machine started.  I did a lot of work in this virtual machine.  I suspended the VM because I needed to recover a portion of memory that he used for another application.

When I try to start the virtual machine now, it says that it requires 4 GB of memory and that I should quit some applications or restart to free the memory required.  I tried both without success.

Why the parameter / 3GB was not recorded when I suspended the VM?

Given that I can't change the memory required for the virtual machine until it is properly closed and since then I can't stop the virtual machine without unsuspending it, I suspect that the VM is toast.

Is it possible to recover the virtual machine?

With VMware Fusion closed, you can remove the file from .vmss to to reset the VM to a shutdown state.  Note that whatever it is not recorded when he was suspended will be lost.

  • Commands to start and stop a virtual machine hosted by VMware player

Where can I find the commands to start and stop a virtual machine hosted by VMware player on a host Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit)?

I need to start and stop the virtual computer from a script as I could do this by selecting the ' power on ' and his 'guest stop' or at least 'power off' options of the GUI of VMware player.

If a control interface is not available, is available if I update to VMware Workstation?

    Concerning

With the player, the VIX API is a separate download (on the same page you downloaded the install drive in), so I guess you will have to install the separate package to use it.  But it's pretty easy to do...

  • VShield Configuration Manager 4.1 (and how to protect a virtual machine?)

I have 2 ESXi hosts currently configured in vCenter 4.1.  Before vShield installation Manager, he had 3 vSwitches present on each server; a regular and two distributed.

    • vSwitch0 - connected to vmnic0 - has management and production of network 1 10.168.90.x

    • VLAN 10.1 - VMFN connected to vmnic1 on each host - connects to the private physical network 10.1.x.x

    • VLAN 10.2 - VMFN connected to vmnic2 on each host - connects to the private physical network 10.2.x.x

After you install vShield Manager in a new virtual machine and then to deploy vShield Zones to each ESXi host, develops a new vSwitch

vmservice-vswitch - again group of ports in Virtual Machine vmservice-vshield-pg - not connected to any physical cards

VMS individual vShield-FW created for each host have connected network cards as below

    • Production network normal 1 - VM Network adapter (attached to vSwitch 0).

    • Production network normal 2 - VM Network adapter (attached to vSwitch 0).

    • Adapter 3 - vmservice-vshield-pg network

I tried to connect my VMs to the network vmservice-vshield-pg in order

to protect them and place them behiind the firewall.  However, who has

seem to work, and my VM has lost network connectivity.

How to protect a virtual machine that needs to connect to the normal production

Network (on vSwitch0)?  Is there any configuration steps I'm missing?

What happens if I want to connect a virtual machine or one of its network cards to one of the 10.1.xx

or 10.2.x.x networks rather than the normal 10.168.90.x network?  What

additional steps should I make?  The new 4.1 documentation is not

helped at all, and it seems that the old vShield Zones 1.0 docs are not

    applies to all.

There is no need to change the virtual computer is connected to the network.

Just activate/install vShield zones on your hosts and add rules to the vSwitch or data center.

The virtual machine will be becomes protected if no error is displayed.
