I've disabled all services & then allowed them one at a time and the problem seems to be with BITS & Windows update. My laptop will not freeze if I let only these two services turned off. I ran the Scanner to complete MS who managed nothing found. I also ran sfc/scannow & cleaning. I have a HP G7000 Notebook running Vista Home Basic 32-bit with SP2.
