    Hello @adityarai82,

Thank you for visiting the Forums from the HP Support! The forums are a great place where you can find solutions for your problems, with the help of the community!

I read your post about the WiFi problem and wanted to help you!  I understand that you have tried the troubleshooting steps a lot already, without success.

Try to review these steps, offered by community member @Great-Christine-Tree:

First of all, we have a step by step guide to guide you through the process of diagnosis here:
Troubleshooting your wireless network and Internet access

A second option is to try the following steps:
    Powercycle the network:
    1. turn off your laptop.
    2. unplug the power to your router.
    3. disconnect the power to your modem.
    4. wait at least 45 seconds.
5 reconnect the modem and wait for it to come back online.
6 plug in the router and wait for it to come back online.
    7. turn on your laptop and test your connection.

Turn off the power to the adapter:
    1. open Device Manager. (Win Key + R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)
    2. expand the network adapters.
    3. right click on the Ethernet adapter / wireless, and then click Properties.
    4. click on the power management tab.
5 remove the check mark next to allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
    6. click on OK.
    7 test cycle.

Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:
    1. go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
    2. right-click on the command prompt icon and select run as administrator.
    3. in the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without the quotes and press ENTER.
4 restart your PC and test.

It can also help to reset the winsock catalog:
    1. go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
    2. right-click on the command prompt icon and select run as administrator.
    3. in the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without the quotes, and then press ENTER.
4 restart your PC and test.

    Reinstall the NIC drivers:
    1. download the drivers from here , but do not run them again.
    2. go to your Start menu/screen and type Device Manager.
    3. expand network adapters.
    4. right click on the wireless adapter and choose uninstall.
5 install the drivers downloaded in step 1.
    6. restart your PC and test.

    Test an ethernet connection:
Explicit. Test if the problem persists on a wired connection to the adapter hardware troubleshooting wireless can be directed to the appropriate areas.

    Test another connection:
Many people excluded their home network as a problem if another device working on the same network. Networking is not as simple as that. Each device interacts differently with your router or modem and it is impossible to exclude the settings for this device until the laptop has been tested on another network.

If these steps do not resolve the problem, try this document published by Microsoft for network management issues: wired and wireless network problems. You can change the operating system with the drop-down list in the upper right of the document.

  • Pavilion p6610f Desktop: software blocking Wifi transmission

Pavilion p6610f Desktop 64 bit Win 7 Home Premium SP1.  I had problems with the buffering and freezing in my browsing on the internet. I contacted my Internet provider after doing all the clean to the top of my computer that I knew how to do. After an hour or two with the agent to remote access to my computer and them telling me that everything was going well at their end, I asked why the icon Wifi in my taskbar shows only two bars on a possible 5 when my computer is right next to my Wifi modem? I was told it was probably a software interfering with the Wifi transmission.  I ran Microsoft malware and adware programs removal & Ms. Mr. Fixit.  I have MS Security Essentials and have not all problem reports.  My provider Internet telling me the truth?  Is the lack of Wifi reception with software that I can't find? I looked in my programs & features and does not see all unauthorized programs may have snuck in and I deleted some. The only thing that is new is a HP Envy 5660 all-in-one that is set up wireless.  It has been suggested that I have reformat my hard drive and reinstall the essential programs to see if that helps. But, acckkKKK!  I don't want to go through all that again! Hi there @TY965

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! It's a good place to find the help you need, other users, the HP experts and other members of the support staff. I understand that you are getting a signal strength wireless low, despite the close proximity. I'm happy to help you with this.

In some respects, being too close could be part of the problem. Because of the arrangement of the devices, it could be that the receiver on your desktop does not receive a clear signal, due to the metal in its framework. I suggest moving the router wireless in the location and see if you can get a better signal. This page has also some other useful information which may affect the strength of the signal.

How to get a better Wireless Signal and reduce interference of wireless network - howtogeek.com

If that does not help or make a difference, then you can try looking at your system itself. Start with the next page, and if there is no improvement, wok your way through the other sections, I have included, until it is resolved.

  • Pavilion DV7-3165DX, Atheros AR9285 WiFi adapter, communication and incompatibility issues

After much research, I decided to buy a Pavilion DV7-3065DX. Then, I walked to my local Best Buy to say the 3065DX had been abandoned and was no longer available for purchase. However, the 3165DX, his successor had arrived and was very similar to the previous generation. After a brief discussion to justify the increase of prices with myself, I gave and was sold.

Within hours, I was in College, trying to connect to the WiFi network without success. After several hours becoming more and more frustrated, I decided to call it closes unexpectedly. Rushing home after class, I plugged the new Linksys WRT160N, I had also bought wireless router and configured on my desk. Once completed, I tried to connect using the new Pavilion. To my surprise, it worked! (And no problem whatsoever no less). So, apparently, the wireless adapter works, but does so only on some networks.

A week later, I tried to connect to a number of public and private WiFi networks of different types with limited success. Most importantly, I am able to connect to my home network, but not to the public networks in my college or city libraries. At one point, the Office for my college indicated that my WiFi adapter is one of a handful of cards on the list of incompatible devices to their network. As it was to buy the laptop in the first place, I am extremely frustrated.

I turned to the support pages of HP for a solution. I considered a update driver despite the use of the HP Wizard to keep abreast on all software downloads and updates. To my dismay, product for the Pavilion DV7-3165DX page lists of Broadcom WiFi adapter, which does not correspond to my hardware (Atheros AR9285). What's worse, is that the manufacturer's website offers no driver downloads to customers that its site is adapted directly to product manufacturers.

At this point, I'm increased and not sure what to do. I am already attached to this laptop. Apart from the war with his fingerprints on its black and shiny chrome surfaces shiny, the problem with the Atheros WiFi card is the only problem that I had. I hate having to go through the ordeal to return, and I do not think that this problem requires the sending of the product to HP for repair. Furthermore, I believe that if it came down to one of those, I simply return the product and find my way to another product by other manufacturers in total.

This certainly isn't the experience I had hoped with my first purchase of HP.

    Any suggestions?

I have the same question... However with me the solution wasn't in the pilot. I spent 3 hours on the phone with technical support, try to understand.

What it comes down to say that Atheros AR 9285 is a shi * ty wireless card. It supports 802.11n Protocol, but only 2.4 GHz (the same as the b/g frequencies). My Cysco wireless router was broadcasting 5 GHz Wireless-N and AR 9285 was not able to detect it. Once I changed the router settings to allow 2.4 GHz Wireless-N Networking, the Atheros card was able to connect under the Protocol N. However, the maximum speeds of 2.4 GHz card are slower than 5 GHz card.

I wish they would give an option to choose what wireless card to install in my laptop. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I'm always done what they me screwed on.

  • RALink RT5390r 801,1 1 b/g/n 1 x 1 wifi adapter in a Pavilion dv6 notebook works with WiFi on 5 GHz?

The card Ralink RT5390r 801,1 1 b/g/n 1 x 1 wifi in a Pavilion dv6 notebook wireless adapter works with WiFi on 5 GHz? I need to change the network card?

    Hello:

Any card with a bgn suffix is a single 2.4 GHz single band card.

A card with agn or abgn is a dual band.

I doubt you will find a dual band compatible to your laptop wireless card.

The BIOS has a whitelist which hangs in the cards wireless not supported to be installed.

The service manual may indicate a card dual band for your model, but the part number will be probably wrong.

  • 15-b168ca Pavilion: Pavilion 15-b168ca sleekbook - no wifi driver detected

    Hello

My wifi doesn't work.  At first, I could reset my computer and get it going again for a minute, but then it stopped working altogether.

I 'reset' my computer to the point where my programs are lost but my records and documents are kept.  That did not work.

A techie friend of mine had a quick glance and says that the wifi driver seems to be missing and plug in an ethernet cable and follow the necessary updates.  Cable ethernet worked, but the updates never came and my wifi still doesn't work.

I thought that maybe if I install Windows 10, it could restore things for me, but that didn't work.

I tried HP support auto troubleshooting for wireless network and internet (windows 10) but stuck to (5) under step 1 because where my HP Support Assistant should apparently give me a link to 'Check' HP network next to the 'connections', he said on the contrary "visit the Forums Support HP's.

Troubleshooting Windows didn't help not my wifi because he just tells me to plug an ethernet cable.

Also, I can't find the page, but the HP site did a search on my computer and he said he couldn't find it.  I can't give more details about this because I remember more where I found this link.

    Can someone please?

    Thanks in advance.

Was not means that the wifi adapter no longer works as it should, in other words, it's a dead device.

This is the reason why I asked you to run the diagnostic equipment.
