Installation of VMware on Linux

I have three questions.

I signed up for the trial period and am not able to install Vmware on Ubuntu/Linux 8.04.1.  There apparently is no program to install.  First, I downloaded the bundle, but when I opened it, it locked up my computer.  I had to switch to the command line to shut down the computer and restart.  Then, I deleted the bundle and downloaded the RPM.  I am new to VMware and vitualization and would be great to try to see if it will work for me.  I am a user of personal Linux, confirmed using Windows only for a couple of things that I can't do on Linux yet.  I am also trying to learn everything I can what I do on my computer.

Can I install Windows using the recovery of the computer disk, or do I need to get a commercially available installation CD.  I have a Toshiba Satellite, 2 years, which came with Windows XP.

Is there a tutorial on how to do the installation?

Thanks in advance for any help I get.

The bundle is indeed how to install. Personally, I would try not to convert using alien deb.

Just make the executable package:

sudo chmod +x "VMware-Workstation*.bundle"

and then run it (I prefer to use a terminal for these things, as you can see an error message in the terminal)

sudo ./VMware-Workstation*.bundle"

There is no need to return to the windows side of things if you do not want.

Edit: it is down to me... If I start mixing chown and chmod... its time to stop

Can you help me out of this Situation or is it a missing element in the installer?

I just downloaded VMware-player - 7.0.0 - 2305329.exe and installed under Windows 7 x 64 and had no problems with it automatically detect installed VMware Tools to the guest operating system to be downloaded and successfully downloaded.  Having said that, have you tried? : Player > file > Preferences... > download now all components

Maybe something is blocking you to download the VMware tools.

You could also do it manually by using the following tools from VMware for VMware Player 7.0.0.

Unzip the file, then run the executable result and it will silently install the file without any indication that he actually did like this isn't really so planned how to do even if it works!

  • 11i/R12 connection at the base of the machine during the Installation of VMWare host.

    Hello people,

I installed 11i and R12 on VMWare. My host in Windows XP operating system.

    11i details-
    VMWare/Guest OS - Windows XP
    Version - 11.5.10.2

    R12 Details-
VMWare/Guest OS - Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3
    Version - 12.1.1

Everything works fine on the VMWare OS application and database (sqlplus).

The problem is that I am not able to connect to the data base (11i/R12) from the host machine. I am successfully able to run the application from the host machine after you put the entry in the file "hosts".

To connect to the database, I have installed the Oracle 9i on the host machine client and put the entry in the TNSNAMES file. ORA generated by 11i/R12, but even in doing so I am not able to connect to the database.

Is there a way I can connect to the database (installed on VMWARE) of the HOST Machine.

I've seen a single installation on VMWARE, where we are able to connect to the database from the HOST machine.

After you install vmware workstation 6.5 on windows 10 it gets error and restart. Is vmware workstation 6.5 support windows 10? FAILED TO INSTALL. vmware workstation 6.5 on windows 8, 8.1 and 10 support. ALL SUPPORT. I still don't understand...

VMware Workstation 6.x do not support Windows 10 and will never support Windows 10.

VMware Workstation 6.x reached "end of support" four years, October 1, 2011: Matrix.pdf product lifecycle

We produce updates for release until its date of "end of support".  A product may not work properly with host OSes, processors or comments OSes that are not compatible with the product, especially the things that have been published after the date of "end of support".  We put a huge amount of effort to ensure that new hardware and operating systems works with each new major release of VMware Workstation, but we cannot go back and update any previous version of product to add support for all hardware and operating systems more recent.  If we tried to do this, VMware Workstation cost much more that it is today, simply because of the amount of work required to maintain!

You need to upgrade your installation of VMware Workstation to something more recent, or downgrade your host operating system to a version compatible with VMware Workstation 6.5.

    I hope this helps!

  • Selection of the method of Installation of VMWare Fusion 7

So I take an edx online course: Introduction to computer CS50x. I am following the installation of VMware Fusion instructions found at the following link: https://manual.cs50.net/appliance/2014/fusion/

I followed the instructions in step #4: I double click the icon of VMware Fusion. I clicked on 'Open' when prompted. I typed my administrative password. I accepted the license agreement. I inserted the license key. I am now in the window "select the installation method. But herein is the problem. I do not know what installation method to choose, and there are no instructions on it. My options are: (1) import of disk or image; (2) import existing PC; (3) install OS X from the recovery partition; (4) import a virtual machine existing; (5) installation of Boot Camp. and (6) create a custom virtual machine.  There are no instructions or advice to navigate through these options.

    Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

From what you have posted, it seems to me that the merger has been successfully installed. The dialog box "Select installation method" you see is Fusion trying to be helpful and you guide in the creation of your first virtual machine.

At this stage of VMware Fusion and eject the mounted disk installation image (so that you do not open the installation program when you must open the copy installed on your disk). Continue to step 5 to download your virtual appliance of the format .ova.

  • Installation of VMware in VMware Player tools

    Hello

I installed VMware Player v7, created a virtual machine (Windows) and wanted to install the VMware Tools via Player > manage > install VMware Tools... but nothing happens when I click on this option. The following 2 other methods I found in a Ko do not work either:

    • Enter D:\setup.exe where D: is the first CD-ROM drive configured for your virtual computer = > NOK as the virtual drive does not show the VMware tools.
    • Looking for the ISO file in the installation folder = > NOK: there is no ISO file.

After searching on the forum, I realized that VMware Player doesn't come with VMware tools and workaround I used was to install VMware Workstation without a license on another computer, find the file "windows.iso", copy it to the computer, mount it as a virtual drive and start the client installation.

The thing I don't understand is the reason for which the option is available in the VMware Player menu if the VMware tools are not? It's very confusing for people new to VMware and only install VMware Player...

You need not download VMware workstation to get VMware Tools in VMware Player!  VMware Player 7 is working fine on my system and had no problem downloading VMware tools, so maybe it's a problem specific to your environment/system that may block recovery.

Take a look at my answer: Re: VMware Tools missing in the Installation of VMware Player 7

don't forget to install VMware Tools on Linux, you will need the linux-headers for the installed kernel package

first of all, make sure to select the option to install VMware Tools (in this way the VMware Tools iso will be mapped in the virtual machine)

    the command-line command (as root):

    mount/dev/cdrom/mnt/cdrom

    CD/tmp

    tar zxf/mnt/cdrom/VMwareTools - xversion - < xxxx >. tar.gz

    umount/dev/cdrom

    CD vmware-tools-distrib

    ./VMware-install.pl

Has anyone had a successful installation of coldfusion mx7.0.1 meeting of vmware linux? I found a problem on this site for coldfusion installed in a vmware windows session. I tried the work around by using a silent installation and still had installation problems.

    (do a find for VMWARE)

I know C++ compatibility issues, and I know that I have additional libraries installed. (I don't think that is the question for this installation, in any case)

I get the error listed in the Setup log file indicating:
    '/tmp/0124.tmp/ant_bin_dir.zip '.
    Status: ERROR
Additional notes: ERROR - problems wit the Extender of the type Z_/installers/CustomCode/includes/ant_bin_dir.zip's. "He said: error in opening zip file.

I zip and unzip in the path and callable. There are a lot more error thereafter, but I think it's because files are missing in zip archive. Any ideas?

Oh, I also tried to download this file 3 different times. I had an original installation file that I used before without any problem. I also downloaded it twice just to make sure I didn't have a corrupted file.

    (Edit)

I made the request to record the temp directory, so I could see what he was working with. I went through the decompression of the files I could find and found that Resource1.zip has problems.

"Signature of end-possibili-directory not found. This file is not a zip file, or it is a drive from one archive in several part. In the latter case you Central Directory zipfile comment is on the last drive of this archive.
unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of the Resource1.zip or Resource1.zip.zip and cannot find Resource1.zip.zip, period. »

Maybe its a problem with this file in the installer?

OK, I played around with it some more but I thought that I have here documents for later use, if someone has the same problem.

I downloaded many times coldfusion linux installation.

I'll implement this laptop so I can program so that not even connected to the network. I bought a copy of CF7 earlier and downloaded the file.

I think that the download of "Developer" from the download section of adobe (macromedia) may be bad. That, or by downloading it 4 times on this computer all failed in the process.

I remembered that I still had the coldfusion linux install file on my Web server, so I downloaded the file to my session for laptop computer to vmware using sftp.

I should also mention that the md5 sums did NOT match those shown in the download section. In fact, I couldn't get one to match at all. I don't have a sum on the first two downloads, so I don't know if they match or not.

Anyway, I knew that the cold fusion on my web server setup file worked, so I copied that and ran the installation using the installation in silent mode. I don't know if it would work with the installation in normal or not; I have not tried.

So, if you encounter this error, it's probably the download. Try to download the test the other section (can't remember what his name). You can install either of those in developer mode.

I am in Workstation 8 and I'm having some trouble to the VMware tools to install.

This problem occurs when you run vmware-config - tools.pl. He can not find the GCC binary. I provide the path/usr/bin, but it returns an error saying that is is not a valid path.

A similar problem occurs with the path to the kernel header. I suppied the /lib/modules/2.4.7-10 path, but I received an error message indicating that this was not the right path.
