My colleague has a non-genuine version of windows ultimate. Wrongly, she bought an upgrade to windows 7 Home premium via internet. She has been accused of £82.99 and was sent an activation key. Obviously, she is unable to use this version. She asked me to try to sort it out for her. It is difficult to get a refund for this quantity. In the meantime, we bought a final full windows for PC, but we are waiting for the release and the disc.
While waiting on Unraveling the refund, just do an Express Windows 7 Ultimate from Home Premium upgrade.

You need to change the Boot order to make the CD/DVD drive 1st in the boot order, then restart with the Vista DVD in the drive and follow the instructions.

Serious problems repair infected by a genuine version of Windows XP Professional

I'm running a genuine copy of Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3, which took over a virus that has caused all sorts of problems.
System startup and internet works OK, but do not work:
- system tools have been removed, have now been restored from the internet but does not properly;
- help and support center does not at all;
- File Manager does not properly;
- can copy text, but cannot paste then;
- cannot minimize programs, they just close.
- Microsoft difficulty it Center will not work, keeps giving error messages.
- CSP according to me is no use however cannot depend on tools system;
- some files are missing, although the use of disc has not diminished, so assume that the files are hidden;
- have removed the do not show hidden files, not yet theer.
- WORD, EXCELL etc. have all disappeared however open 1 documents will then close again.
- system all left of the restore points and cannot be reinstated deleted files;
- can't find the XP installation cd bought a CD of repair;
- repair CD won't recognize my authentic product key;
- tried to check my product key, which will now activate correctly so continued warnings;
- downloaded Microsoft programs in the past without error, henec product key was OK...
- have installed Jelly Bean to check the product key codes, agrees with the fixed COE to the machine;
- new programs will install and uninstall ok, however veterans such as defender will not;
- Install/Uninstall godmother doesn't work does not correctly;
- I could go on as have spent the last 2 days trying to get this machine works again with no joy and I'm about to put my fist through the screen...
I have information on the hard drive that I need to get out and it is not saved (yes I know, don't bother remember for back up...) so any help anyone can be will be greatly received before the computer gets in a big way...

Never used a Disk Imaging application (Symantec/Norton Ghost and Acronis True Image are the two most people have heard of)?
You may be a time when something like that - as well as their usually provided utility that allows you to read in the image file - might be a good choice. This way, you get a snapshot in time backup of the system at the moment, the permissions mean NOTHING when direct playback of files image and you can browse it on another computer.
Another option is a Windows UBCD - boot with it, connect to a network share or a USB drive and copy things you MUST CERTAINLY off the system before rebuild. Not to mention - Windows UBCD has commercial imagery that are free to use on that. ;-)

He is now 21/05/2015 pop up says I have a fake Windows and I am unable to run iTunes or some other music downloads. Windows diagnostic tool tells me that my version is 100% authentic as the sticker on the side. I've been here when it was checked for more than a year. "This copy of Windows is not genuine" after installing windows skin (transcript)
So this weekend I spent a few hours to 'customize' my PC. I installed a skin (which I assume is the source of my problem), some tools to change the ORB start and a few other minor aesthetics, I also changed the sounds, but you can do this through the customization tab, so I doubt that this would be the source of my problem. I was careful when replacing system files, than the replacement of explorer.exe itself corrupted in the past, that I managed to fix my own easily. I doubt the files I edit has had something to do with the permission of my OS, but I could be wrong. I have a genuine version of Windows 7, it came preinstalled on the PC when I bought it and it works A-O-Kay for about 5 years now, all I've really seen this pirate error trying to hide evidence to their pirated copies of Win7, that is not the case.
I currently do a Virus scan with AVG as I type this and will edit if it solves the problem. But I am fully willing to cooperate in the process of solving this problem, if the skin I have installed is the problem so I can easily uninstall, repair my file system or restore them to a point older; It's just that I don't want to get rid of him, if I have to. Another note, it's that I did not use the wipers/registry cleaners other than CCleaner, which did not give me wrong before and is highly praised for this work and to play with something else.

Nick.Thanks for the reply. I have since made a system restore and the antivirus scan has detected two "IRP Rootkits" inside my System32 folder. Strangely, after restoration, the message disappeared, I waited for about 45 minutes and checked again and it was still gone and in computer > properties it doesn't detect my RAM or the processor (which has since fixed itself, because it detects very well now).
After having checked the link you provided the only question I had was the error message, I have not received an error message and my desktop (s) remained the same, that could be because I use displayfusion to my setup dual monitor that replaced the switch in the dark.
I'll stay alert for any additional questions by the departure, but it seems that this might have been a minor bug on my part because it seems to be fixed now. I will return if the problem appears again, thank you for your assistance, Sharief.

This computer is not running windows 7, but wants to install wins 10
I get the pop up that I'm not under a genuine version of windows 7. I tried to check the properties of the COMPUTER in the start menu it says activated. Can I run windows update, and he keeps trying to install Win 10. It's something that I don't need right now. What gives? I bought the computer new August 2015.

0x8004fe21 - "this computer is not running Windows" - KB3024777 update does not resolve the issue

My Windows 7 has been giving me some problems lately. I get messages that "this computer is not running genuine Windows" (0x8004fe21). I'm running a genuine version of windows, and when I check the properties of my computer, it tells my that I have in fact validated my copy of Windows 7.
I also had a problem when new updates to Windows Update settle not and after a few google searches, I have concluded that this must have been caused by bad KB3004394 update.
It has been suggested that I deleted this update, but it did not show anywhere under installed updates.
It has also been suggested that I downloaded the patch of "quick fix" KB3024777, which is supposed to remove the faulty update.
I did, and since then, the issue of windows updates has been resolved. Again installing the updates of windows, but I still get messages I'm not authentic Windows.In addition, I tried all sorts of things, I found in online forums, but I don't remember exactly what those who were, because most of them were things that I didn't understand.

My eMachines WHAT PSU netbook on board failed a few months ago, so I bought a damaged screen unit and replaced the motherboard on my defective unit. Now, I get a message telling me that my computer is not running a genuine version of windows. I checked the case of the damaged netbook I bought and notice it was on XP, so that one I originally bought wasrunning Windows 7 Starter. Clearly, my version of windows 7 Starter is genuine, how can I fix this problem?
These are OEM Windwos versions, they cannot be installed on different computers, the new motherboard is considered to be another computer by the validation software. OEM can provide replacement motherboards and provide you with a replacement if necessary key, you should ask them for help.
