ISA550 Wan speeds VS direct to the modem

Today, I noticed that if I connect my computer directly to the modem, I get speeds of 67MBPS down and 3.5 upward. When I go through the ISA550 I get 47 down and 3.5 upward. Is - fixable?

Hello

Your speeds are most likely more slow because of running security services your CEP.

I took a quick look at the Datasheet for the ISA550 and the flow when the different threat management features are enabled is listed to 45Mbps, right around what you have found.

As a test of cross and disable the security services one at a time to refine that slows you down, my guess would be the A / V or IPS.

Is repairable way, using just the firewall, the device can handle up to 200Mbps, but that means you would need to disable certain functions for security.

Hope that helps and thanks for using Cisco,

  • Trouble with iMac connecting directly to the modem

I have an AirPort Extreme, provision of a wifi network in my house. It is connected to a modem Concast Cisco DPC3941T model.

I planned to connect my iMac (retina 5 k, 27 "running 10.11.3) directly to the modem and not use wifi to connect to the Internet.  I plugged a bolt of lightning for the Ethernet card in and ran a cord to the Cisco modem, but the iMac doesn't recognize this connection.

Network preferences says "Thunderbolt Ethernet has an assigned IP address and won't be able to connect to the Internet."  Sorry, don't know what that means.

The reason behind the try it is that my wifi signal is de-energized intermittently and I can't understand why. So I thought that if I plugged the iMac directly I could avoid the abandonment wifi issues.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

You have removed the Airport Extreme?

If you connect the computer directly into the modem, the ethernet indicator lights on the router. It is essential for the ethernet work.

Using an ethernet cable, you bought? If it's super long they can give trouble... a short cable should be fine.

If you are not sure the little light on the AE plug the computer by ethernet in the extreme with a cord short... lights... If so, you can plug the cord of the cisco to another port ethernet on EI and make sure it works too.

Network preferences says "Thunderbolt Ethernet has an assigned IP address and won't be able to connect to the Internet."  Sorry, don't know what that means.

Ethernet is not connected or DHCP does not work. If the modem has been bridged it won't work, unless you turn off the modem for about 20 min. Then launch new follow-up to the computer.

    OK, found the solution.

go to the problems of the internet, there is an option to send a refresh signal to your modem.

I did, and it started working. I guess that clears the memory and binds to the new MAC address...

After that I did, internet is back. I hope this will be useful to someone. I was ready to return the dang thing.

  • SpeedTest E3000 50 percent SLOWER when I connect the PC directly to the Modem cable

    Hello

My ISP is Comcast and I've recently updated my service to have up to 50 MB speeds yo and upward at 10 MB.

    My router is the E3000.

When I connect my PC directly to a cable modem and perform a speed test (www.speedtest.net), I get 61 MB download and about 11 download fairly regularly.

Now when I use the router configuration to connect my PC to the E3000 and then run the speed test, I get 50% LESS!  So, my download is on average around 30-31 MB and my upload is 4 to 5 MB.

In fact, I thought it was the E3000 and went out and bought a Netgear and got the same results.

In both cases, I have updated the firmware to the latest version and I also updated my PC to the latest drivers adapater.

I even tried to manually set the MTU to 1500.  Nothing works!  It is still 50% less achievement when I connect through a router.

I expect a bit of slowdown during the connection through the router, but certainly not 50%.  And, Yes, 50% is consistent.

Any ideas on what could cause this 50% slower?

    Thank you!

Well, I agree on that. Speedtest.NET is not accurate. I don't even use it to measure my speed of internet connection.

If your connection is 50Mbps, then you should get 6.2MBps more or less of download speed. It is normal that you get at least 80% of your download speed.

I think that there is no problem at all with your connection.

  • BEFSR81 v1 WAN speed

Hi all, I just have to move to a 10 Mbps aDSL connection. I measured the bandwidth of download as about 5 Mbps with the router in the circuit. Without the router (i.e. directly connect the modem ZyXEL 660R to host) and the modem mode bridge or router, I am able to get the full 10 Mbps. I updated the firmware on the router to 2.45.10 and changed the host system RWIN to the value calculated from "optimal" and the MTU to be equal, 1500, on the router & host. One of these values does not affect bandwidth significantly - less popular ACK with superior RWIN, as expected, but no real change in speed. Does anyone have any suggestions? TIA, Art

N (new): the specification of 10 Mbps in the data sheet only shows you what technical specification follows the port on the router. It is a 10 Mbps port. It works with any other 10 Mbps devices and devices that are backward compatible with 10 Mbps. As FastEthernet or Gigabit Ethernet are backwards compatible you can connect to it even but of course only based on the specification of 10 Mbps.

The technical specification defines how the port and Cap like looks, wiring of pins etc.. The technical specification says nothing about the speed of the unit using this port is.

If you buy a computer today data sheet will tell 'Gigabit Ethernet Port' or '1000 Mbps Ethernet Port' or maybe ' 10/100/1000 Ethernet Port. It is once again the technical specification of this ethernet port. It is compatible with Gigabit Ethernet devices. It is not that the device is able to provide data of 1000 Mbps or receive it.

The same is true for your BEFSR81. The data sheet BEF does not say it is able to provide 10 Mbps routing performance. The data sheet only tells you that the WAN port is a port of Mbit/s Ethernet standard 10. That's all. It is the same as for any other computer spreadsheet data, peripheral NAS, or similar.

With regard to the switches: you no longer need uplink ports. Basically, all devices are auto-negotiation and they automatically detect what device it is connected, and which cable (crossover or straight) you use. If you buy a switch gigabit today he will most definitely have all ports to auto-negotiation on that and you can connect to another device that you like. You can also connect to your BEF by using port uplink or one of its other ports. The port allows to detect what you have...

I recommend you to get a gigabit or may even switch 2 If you need more ports. Switches with more ports are generally more expensive, then using 2 small switches. Of course, it depends a little on your LAN configuration. You don't want your main stream crossing 2 switches. But, for example, if you have a few devices in the living room and even more in the Home Office, it can be a good idea to use a switch in the living room and the other in the Home Office. All streaming etc. would remain in life and not hit the switch in the Office at home. If, however, much since stream you life Home Office one switch could be better.

With regard to the switches, once again, a word of warning. If a switch has 8 full-duplex 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports that it does not say you can connect 8 devices full gigabit speed give and receive at the same time (i.e. full duplex) 1000 Mbps. The switch must receive 8000 Mbps and send 8000 Mbps at the same time. Very often, you will find data sheets do not mention the possible real rate of a switch. More expensive switches usually refer to the flow of the "basket" or something similar. If a switch 8 ports would say he is able to manage 16000 Mbps on the backplane, then you would get full flow possible. But if anything like this mentioned that it is quite possible that it handles than less. You may be able to get transmissions complete gigabit on some ports but may never all at the same time, for example if backplane is only able to handle 4000 Mbit/s. The data sheet tells you that the technical specification of the integrated equipment, but not how fast he is...

Thus, I'd get the standard gigabit for your local network and a router switches more fast which is capable of managing your internet connection. In view of the increase in the speed of the internet in the future I expect to get a new router in 2-3 years. For the moment, the most important thing would be that it should be able to handle the speed of 100 Mbps WAN. This should work for 2-3 years...

One place to find the actual flow of routers is smallnetbuilder. Unfortunately, they have not all models of router it...

  • Satellite L305 Vista - shortcut to the properties of the modem?

To open the properties of the software Modem Toshiba you would normally click on:

Device Manager-> Modem-> Modem Toshiba Software right click-> properties.

Anyone happen to know if it is possible to create a shortcut directly in Vista?
I looked for a .msc file that might do it, but could not find one.

    Thank you.

    Hello

I think that it of not possible to shortcut directly to the modem properties, but you can make a shortcut to Device Manager.

Right click on desktop-> New-> shortcut (from file)-> use this devmgmt.msc-> devices Manager shortcut name file

Now you should have an icon and a shortcut on the desktop called the Device Manager.

  • Loss of internet connectivity after the modem / router reset

I have a BEFSX41V2 and a Motorola SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 modem.  My provider is comcast.  After all devices reset, unplug the power and remove the cable / ethernet cable, I lose all access to the outside.

The strange thing is that if I connect any desktop or laptop computer at home directly to the modem, I have access.  In this case, the link for the transmission light / receipt of data on the modem is on.

I had to send signals of reset comcast several times but it does not solve the problem when the modem and the router BEFSX41V2 are connected.  In this case, the link for the transmission light / receipt of data on the modem is turned off.

Are there additional steps I must take on the router to reactivate the connectivity.

    Thank you.

    George

Have you tried to do a hard reset to the router and then reinstall parameters later? To do the reset, please press the reset button at the back of the router for 30 seconds while the unit is turned on. After unplugging and then start from scratch. You can check this link, http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=fccaaff524a24bc9a08172ea696f8ed1_4737.xml&pid=80&r...

  • Not getting the modem DHCP address WRT610n cable.

I bought the WRT610n about a month, and he works very well with the help of "connection type: Automatic Configuration - DHCP" until 3 days ago. He now does not (software wise) Internet connection. The Internet Blue representative icon lights up when I plug the ethernet cable, and the link on the cable modem light also lights up when I do the ethernet connection. I tried the power reset the cable modem and the router by pressing the reset button to return the router for the settings by default and swapped the ethernet cables. But whenever I look on the router status screen, I 0.0.0.0 for all entries of the intellectual property.  I press the buttons on the screen to "release IP address" and "renew IP address", but nothing helped. When I plug the same ethernet directly from the modem cable on my laptop, I get a DHCP assigned IP address and I am able to connect to the Internet. So, this leads me to believe that this isn't a problem of cable company/cable modem.  The revision of the firmware of the 610 is 1.00.00 B18 any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, because I have several devices that have been set up for their necessary updates on wireless Internet pass the 610 and are now dead in the water.

Problem solved! I read in another post about a link to correctly configure a Linksys router to a cable connection. I had to activate "clone mac address" to get the connection works. I don't know why it worked for a month with this option disabled. I remember last week, my Internet connection went down for about 24 hours, and when he returned to the top, I couldn't connect. But "clone mac address" is always disabled on the router 610. Maybe the cable operator had 'Authentication MAC' disabled and then enabled it the week after the blackout last? I also noticed that dynamic IP from the ISP range went from front 69.x.x.x 173.x.x.x failure later. It seems that the cable company (Cablevision of NYC) changed their addressing scheme and enabled MAC authentication in the process.

Here is the link to the instructions of cable modem:

  • Installs the modem and the router and cannot get it to work?

Recently, I disconnected and then reconnected my computer laptop Windows 7 and XP desktop to a Linksys router that connects to a cable modem Webstar. I did 4 or 5 times in the past with no problems.
Two computers can connect with success directly to the modem. When it is connected through the router, they appear connected (i.e. connected to the local network) but cannot access the internet. I tried to switch, reset etc... checked the cables, without success.

I tried a second router (Belkin Wireless G) I also used before, but get the same result. I appear connected but cannot access the internet, even if I can connect my laptop to other nearby wireless networks.

If I try to connect from the network schematic page in Windows 7 it tries to connect using a PPPOE (no matter who is and gets a 651 error.

I tried all the MS diagnosis/troubleshooting software available on Windows 7 but cannot id the problem.

This should be simple, but I'm out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Airport express at slow speed of the modem Arris SB6190

    Hello!

My so-called WIFi Comcast gives me 150Mbps. My test only show 70 or slower speed on a WiFi test. After the call to them they told me to talk to my modems customer service. But their customer service is terrible. Here is my setup and yes everything has been switched off voltage and reset. And Comcast has been created with the modem while the Comcast guy was here. From the start after a few hard reset the express worked. Here's the question and the installation program.

I have a SB6190 (not wireless), Arris directly connected to my Airport express. The express (which deals with my wireless connection) is connected to a switch (for wired devices). But I think that my problem is the Express. ? Not sure, I guess my question is I do something wrong in public services from the airport with the Express settings? I do not see why I get more 75Mbps wireless. Or maybe Apple if your reading, you can give it a fix on your next update. Hope you can help and thanks!

    Here some thoughts:

    (1) the Airport Express uses 100 ports Ethernet of Mbit/s, so the theoretical maximum speed that could be achieved with an Ethernet or Wi - Fi through the Express would be 100 Mbit / s.

    (2) the Express is not known for his speed wireless. On a connection of 100 Mbps Internet here, I see usually 45 - 50 Mbps at best more wireless, no matter if the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz is used.  Ethernet checks better about 75-80 MB/s to the Express LAN port.

    (3) these are user to user support forums, so it is very unlikely that anyone from Apple will ever see your post. If you want to provide feedback to Apple, you can do so here: Apple Apple - AirPort Express - Feedback will acknowledge receipt of your message, but they will not respond after that.

    (4) the AirPort Express was introduced almost 4 years ago and it's been 2 years that Apple has provided an update firmware for the product, so additional updates are not probably... my opinion.

I doubt it has something to do with the laptop.
I know that my mobile phone operator to slow down the speed to the GPRS standard after particular data traffic has been downloaded.
