Laptop does not do anything except in safe mode!

My laptop has something wrong with it. It allows me to open some things, but when it comes to the final click it wont run anything, I just get the mouse icon timer! All my security is disabled and I can't go online. The only way I can do anything is in safe mode. I checked what has updated the day it broke, and there was an update to Microsoft Office 2003, which is odd, because we have office 2007.

Help, please!

Repair the Windows XP installation - you should have all your files intact.

A repair install will replace the system files with the files on the XP CD used to the repair facility. It will leave your applications and settings intact, but Windows updates will have to be reapplied.

  • I dropped my laptop and now windows starts too slowly or not at all, except in safe mode.

    Hi people out there

I dropped my phone a few days ago and now Windows, when started normally, goes ridiculously slow and then stops before he installed the sidebar.

It still works in safe mode with networking and the other.  Then one of my friends suggested I just get my vista disk and re-install/repair windows.  However, I am currently in Poland, and my drive is in Scotland.  Is there a way I can solve these problems with my windows?  Can I borrow a disc from a friend?  I am really attached to money at the moment then, really, to take it to a store is very much a last resort.

Can anyone offer some (very basic please) advice on what to do?

    Thank you

See if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • Blue screen. Windows does not start. Even on Safe Mode!

When I turned on my laptop the windows logo and everything is in place. But then comes the black screen and ask the options to start windows normally, start in safe mode, ect. I chose to start normally, then a blue screen appears which says that the computer has shut down to prevent damage. He said that I had to disable all anitivirus and other things that I don't have to read. I tried every other selection as start in safe mode, start in safe mode with command prompt, in the other options, I get the same blue screen. I really need to get this problem fixed. I have no CD of installition XP, I have no CD of restoration, I have nothing to work with, so I just need to know a way around it.

There is no magical way around that without any installation disc. Most laptops come with a picture of factory restore on a special partition on the hard drive. The factory restore process is normally called by pressing a key of function (such as F11) to start the computer. There will be a message as to what function key press the screen when you start your computer. You can also consult the manual of your computer or the computer mftr.'s site, or contact technical support to learn how to restore your computer if you plant from each computer mftr. He does it differently - sometimes even between models.

These machines also generally have a utility to create physical recovery disks in case the hard drive needs to be replaced or the factory restore image is somewhat damaged. If you have not created the recovery image recovery physical and damaged disks, contact technical support of computer mftr. to order a set of recovery disks. It is normally very expensive, around $20-25.

Before you try to restore the computer, you must determine if the material is good. You can test yourself:

    http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_Tshoot

A good troubleshooting step is to start with a Linux Live CD. I like Knoppix, but there are others. This has two advantages: 1) if the system works, you can back up all the data that missed your last backup; and (2) with the machine running Linux allows to determine whether the problems are caused by software or hardware. If the machine is unbearably slow and/or Linux cannot run correctly, you know that the hardware is at fault. If the machine behaves perfectly under Linux, you know that the software (Windows) is at fault.

If the equipment is faulty, if you replace it or not depends of which component is bad and the age of the machine.

If the material is good (maybe Windows has been severely infected with a virus/malware and that's why he no longer starts for example), then perform a restore if you plant using any method has been provided by the computer laptop mftr.

If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad).

  • Windows does not start successfully - only in safe mode.

I have a 3200 HP with XP Home Edition. Windows starts only in Mode safe when I download Service Pack 3. Is there a way to fix this without doing a complete restore of the system.  I've been running without SP3 because I knew of this issue. Recently, it has been downloaded and now Windows does not start successfully.  Only in Safe Mode.   When I discovered this problem, I was able to fix it, but can't remember if it was fixed without doing a complete restore of the system and starting over.

  • Thunderbird updated, now will not be opened except in safe mode.

I'm one of those typical Thunderbird update notice yesterday, asking if I want to install this update now, or something like that. He concludes by saying: Thunderbird needs to restart and I wanted to restart now. I said yes, and Thunderbird has not opened since. It won't open unless I press 'shift' for the safe mode - and even in this case, only after, I go to the Windows Task Manager (Vista) / processes, and at the end a process with the name "Thunderbird" if necessary.

  • 15.0.1 Firefox does not load disqus even in safe mode

It is the site of NPR. I cleared my cache, deleted all cookies and restarted in safe mode. Disqus loads still constantly without never get there. Is what do you think?

Could you test in a clean profile? And more without going through your currently installed extensions and custom parameters, you need database parameters completely fresh and cool a cache folder.

Close Firefox and starts in the Profile Manager:

    Start > Search: firefox.exe Pei {ENTER}

Click on create and accept the default values and start in the new profile. To switch between profiles boards, close Firefox and return to this dialog box.

    NPR/DISQUS works better?

    Moved from feedback

Original title: problems with USB ports

    Hi Alba.

    1. who is the operating system installed on the computer?

    2. What is the brand and model of the computer?

This issue may be caused if one of the following situations arises:

    • The currently loaded USB driver has become corrupt or unstable
    • Your PC requires an update for problems that could conflict with an external hard drive USB and Windows
    • Windows may be missing other problems hardware or software updates
    • Your USB controllers may have become corrupt or unstable
    • External drive can enter selective suspend
    • Your PC motherboard may need updated drivers

I suggest to connect the USB device to a different USB port and check.

You can run the Fixit provided in the article and the Coachman.
