Link dead .pdf in WebHelp

I added a .pdf file to my files of luggage and you simply want to create a link in a topic that will open the .pdf.

I added the link successfully (Shift + drag... no problem), but when I opened the WebHelp, the link is dead.  I click on it, nothing happens.

I actually can right click and select SAVE TARGET, so I can save the .pdf, I know that the link is 'See' the file.

Why not the .pdf opens in the window?  I know I've done this before.  Please help before going to mmmmaaaaaaaaad.

Thank you.

Hello

My guess is that you test the WebHelp on your local hard drive and you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer testing. When you have generated, you used the option to add the mark of the Web.

If you want to test the link disable MOTW locally and deal with the IE yellow information bar that appears when you run WebHelp. Or configure IE if you do not get the YIB.

See you soon... Rick

RH10 - after generation to WebHelp links to PDF files do not work. If I saw the topic in HR, the file will open and display. HR project reports any broken links. I've never had this happen before with any version of RoboHelp. Please help me.

Ahhhh, you did not say that it did not work once you have copied the files on the server. That's a horse of a very different hue!

Okay, so if it's the WebHelp on the server, you have problems with, here's what to check.

Are the files that you are linking to really there? They cannot be. What are the baggage files for. You may need to add the files that you link to the list of files so that they are between the release of baggage.

If the files are there, the server can be a flavor of UNIX. In this case, you will need to check the naming conventions. If the file name is SomeFile.PdF, and your link says SOMEFILE. PDF (or another variant of case) links fails on a UNIX UNIX server being very picky about file names.

  • Maintaining links between PDFs converted from source (Word) files

    Hello

If I have two Word files and manage the links between them (hyperlink on one specific bookmark on the other), is there a way to easily remember (or reproduce) these links on PDF files converted from Word files?

Here's what I've tested so far.

-On the source file, the format of the hyperlink is "{filename} .docx #{bookmarkname}. I changed the extension of docx to pdf.

-Source/target to convert Word files to PDF format.

    -The hyperlink on the converted source PDF is in the format "file:///{targetpath}/{targetfile}%23{bookmarkname"}

-When I click on the hyperlink on the converted source PDF, security warning pops up with "this document tries to connect to...". »

-If I click on 'Allow' on the pop-up, the web browser opens with "cannot display this page" error. "

I guess that by using the hyperlink is not a viable solution. If the links do not work, do the following manually?

    - source file Word, remove all hypertext links (because they do not work on PDF even when)

    -convert files to PDF format

-on target of PDF, the value named destinations on the points corresponding to Favorites

-on the source PDF, find points corresponding to hyperlinks and define the links to destinations named on target PDF.

(Actually the situation is more complicated because files are shared at the chapter level and they should be merged for each new version.)

If there is a simpler method to achieve this, I would appreciate your help.

  • Link to PDF: Blank Page

    Hello world

I appreciate all the help I've gotten so far in my DPS adventures!

I came across a problem I'll describe as best I can:

    • I made a PDF of test called "test.pdf" with happy test in this regard.

    • I ziped the file alone in a HTMLResources.zip file

    • I've used folio Builder to download the zip file.

    • I created a button (just a blue circle in the middle of my page) who has a go at the URL: ' HTMLResources/test.pdf' on the release or the tap.

    • I got the update and whenever I try to test the button, the application in browser opens, but there is a blank page instead of the contents of my test.

    Everyone comes through this?

I was able to open an html page in the same folder: ' HTMLResources/test.html' but not the pdf file.

    Thanks in advance,

    Kenny

A link to PDF files should work on the iPad (or web viewer), but it is not supported on viewers such as the viewer desktop and Android-based AIR.

  • Linking to pdf files

    Hello!

I'm trying to link a pdf file and connect this pdf to a "folio" DPS button.

I've tested the HTMLResources.zip file, however it does not work in offline mode, the fact?

And when I try to view in the office, it does not work too.

Is it possible to make it work in these conditions?

    Thank you very much!

Yes, it works in offline mode and it should work on the Viewer from the office but only

If you are seen in the folio, not just an article.

  • create polygonal links in PDF

Is it possible to create polygonal links in PDF? Could be useful, for example for interactive maps.

In the PDF specification, I read on the /QuadPoints key in the link annotations. However, I did not understand the documentation here, that it serves that purpose? Or it creates a number of quadrangle, not necessarily rectangular (8 vertex coordinates would allow it) interactive areas that may or may not overlap?

    The second, Yes.

You can create an arbitrary quadrangular shape to associate with your link.  You can have as many of them as you want.

The idea of more flexible forms of links has been discussed over the years but not made not of the standard.

  • Open a new window when linking between PDF docs (link originates in a Word doc)

    Hello

I saw this discussed historically general topic, but couldn't find any resolution.  I have a Word doc (let's call it A.doc) linking to a PDF doc (let's call it b.pdf). Once I have convert Word doc to PDF (A.pdf creation), I want the link en.pdf to open b.pdf in a new window.

I've seen a number of suggestions that indicate that I can set up the link in Word to do this, use her change the hyperlink > target frame > frame target > 'new window '.  While this works if I click on the link in Word, it does seem to "reporter" once I converted A.doc to A.pdf.  When I click the link en.pdf then B.pdf opens in the same window in time.

I know how to add manually link in Acrobat.pdf to do this, but I don't want you add manually the link every time I create A.pdf.  I want to create the link once in A.doc and did delay in time, and then open the b.pdf link in a new window.

I've seen suggestions on adding some HTML somewhere.  Unfortunately, they are not, that I'm viewing the PDF files in a browser.

I saw suggestions for using the CTRL key at the same time click on the link en.pdf.  Would not be practical, because I have no way to make sure that my users will know it.

I've seen suggestions on the use of JavaScript, but it would mean (I know) I have to add the JavaScript whenever I convert A.doc A.pdf.  Still, I won't have to do any post-processing of A.pdf after I got it to create.  I want the link in 'just work' A.doc after A.pdf is created, i.e. open b.pdf in a new window.

This * seems * like a simple thing to do, I hope there is a simple solution.

BTW, I'm using Word 2007 and Acrobat X.

    Thanks for your help!

    Dave

I use Word 2003 and Acrobat 10 and links created as you describe defaults to 'new window '.

You have the 'Open links in the same interdocument window' unchecked in Edit > Preferences > Documents?

.. sounds too easy... (and your users will probably have to make the change even if they need this behavior, unless you have a very techno IT department that can deploy configuration files large company).

  • Links dead mp3

On wcwb.warnercwhite1.org, there is a hyperlink - Psalm 1 - which displays the text of the Psalm and two dead hyperlinks to play the associated song. The link is to a pdf file that I made that contains the text more an integrated mp3 player and a swf file for the MP3. How can I get that they are alive?

Thank you for your response. I have made my problem. The links were not dead. The mp3 on the pdf file was dead.

BUT, in the meantime, I Redid the pdf and mp3 works now!

So I will mark this problem as answered.

  • RoboHelp 9 - link to PDF

I'm trying to create a link to a PDF file I added to a baggage file in RoboHelp 9. I drag and drop the baggage file in my topic help, but when I generate the help file (WebHelp) the link does not work. It does not appear to be linked to the security settings on my computer in IE11, given that I tried on other computers and it does not work there either.

I would really appreciate help to understand what I'm doing wrong, because I would like a link to several PDF documents in my project and open them in a new window.

    Thank you

    Sally C.

Mark of The Web (MOTW) is an option that is designed to allow the content to be displayed in the browser. It is IE specific.

When you generate WebHelp, the 'recipe' used (in your "recipe box" or the carrycot single Source Layouts"determines the behavior of WebHelp. According to selections made for your recipe of WebHelp, there are different pieces of JavaScript that is added for each of the HTML pages that end up in the output. MOTW will cause an additional line of code to add.

When the Microsoft IE browser load a local file system page (something starting with a drive letter) it normally balk at things such as JavaScript because they are considered a security risk. MOTW is designed to avoid that from happening.

The downside is that the links to things such as Word documents or PDF documents will not work.

Normally, once you copy the WebHelp to a web server (NOT a network server) these links and then work fine.

See, when a Web server has content, he finds himself in the location of temporary Internet files. By default, this location is 'safe', because the operating system has walls around him preventing access to your local file system of content If the content was allowed access to the local file system, they could do some pretty nasty things for you.

  • CHM crashes when you click on links to PDF/word on IE9 files only

    Here's the situation:

CHM file is created with a few links to items of baggage, which are PDF files. I have links in the two topics and live the table of contents.

PC with Internet Explorer 8 or less installed, users are able to click on these links and the PDF file opens.

On PC with Internet Explorer 9 installed, the CHM file breaks down (and worse yet, takes the request that aid was launched since with it).

The error message is: Microsoft HTML Help executable has stopped working [exit].

I tried to create a small project with links to the PDF files and word documents, as long as the files of luggage and external links only, and the same thing happens. I tried on several PC (even a Vista PC which was OK when it was IE8 and not OK when I upgraded to IE). I'm running the CHMS off my PC, not on network drives.

Has anyone else seen elsewhere? I would have thought that other people would have noticed this if it was a generic problem with IE9 and CHM files, but I don't see anyone mention in this forum or anywhere else on google. Makes me think it is something that I did wrong...

One last thing, I have the file as webhelp output and links worked fine.

Thanks in advance to anyone who has a suggestion here.

It was reported and it's really a problem of Microsoft. Link to most any kind of embedded file is causing the problem. The use of PDF files is very common during the construction of a complex aid distribution system.  This issue has been visible since the IE 9 in the recommended Windows updates.  Which covers the last two weeks.

  • Best practices - exeternal link a PDF file on the FM band, and in turn, HR

I use TCS2 with FM and HR.  My goal is the following:

-to create a doc FM (with several chapters) and links to external PDF documents. When I generate the FM file in PDF format, it correctly will allow users to click on links and display these external PDF docs.

-import the doc FM (with several chapters) in HR and create HTML webhelp. Ideally, having the links included in the docs of FM (in external PDF) automatically generate in the HR doc, so that the produced HTML online help doc may have clicked on links also open the external PDF files.

    Issues related to the:

-best way to do it in FM? I guess I have to create my PDFs in a portfolio (package?), so external clients keep the documentation in the same place (because hyperlinks can damage, I guess)

-best way to make it work in HR?

    -things to watch?

    TIA!

    -Adriana

    Adrianna,

Presents all works seamlessly in the framework, assuming that you use cross reference tools and the hyperlink correctly. Assuming that your external files are either 1.)  local for new image files or 2.) are in a static situation on a server that can be identified by a URL.

The warnings are only external PDF files must be in the same relative location as the files FM where they are created, because the path information is used in the links, OR you must specify the static location of the external PDF as a URL using a marker rather than a cross reference hypertext.

If you move the directories containing PDFs around after the fact, Yes, you will break things.

(And when you generate your PDF files, it is recommended to open all the files in the book so that network errors and minor messages prevent files update targets).

If you cannot keep the logical tree when you deliver your PDF documents, Yes, you will need to do the manual steps and create functions and so on and bind files in Acrobat format.

It is worth it for most people to find a way to maintain the stability of the directory structure...

    See you soon,.

  • Unused baggage claim (PDF) of WebHelp

Problem: Cannot delete unused Baggage WebHelp PDF files

Background: disassemble my huge file of WebHelp and break in to aid merged WebHelp of Peter Grainge files separate ( http://www.grainge.org/) worked very well. As a reminder, the original project has hundreds (thousands?) of subjects and a PDF file attached (which the user can download) for almost all subjects.

I used the original (huge) file to create each new paragraph, then removed all books unnecessary (and pages) keeping the new subjects of paragraph. It was easy to remove the HTML headings. Get rid of PDF files proved impossible.

I tried the suggestions posted here for deleting the files of luggage (including by modifying the rhbag.apj file to change the user added an entry 'false' to 'true') without success.

Any suggestions are welcome. At this point, my folders of files generated are on 1GIG because of duplicate PDF files that are not used in the subproject. Each links subproject (except one) between five and ten in PDF format, not every PDF that was in the global file.

Suggestions would be most welcome and thanks in advance!
    Diana

    Diana,

I don't know what you've tried, but here are the steps I would take.

    1. when the project is opened in HR, open the baggage files directory in the Project Explorer and remove those who do not belong there. HR may or may not do this, and even if it seems not to remove the project, it leaves in the project folder.

    2. project closed, open the project folder and delete the ones that do not belong.

    3. once the project closed, launch MS Access and open the project.cpd file.
Under 'Paintings', you will see BaggageFileList and BaggageFileReferences.

    4. open BaggageFileList and examine its contents. There are duplicates? The files listed that you "throw" a long time ago? It is safe (assuming that you have backed up everything) to remove lines of this table and HR will probably forget they were always there.

5 BaggageFIleReferences displays links to topics to the baggage files. If a file is only referenced in the table of contents, it is not here.

Baggage file ID matches the ID in the BaggageFileList table. You can have a few entries that don't make sense - references to topics that no longer exist in the table.

    6. the topic ID in the table of authorities of luggage table matches the topic ID in the table of the list of topics. There are entries in the table of references to topics that do not exist in the project?

After you save the revised database (by the way, plan to run a database compact and repair the access Tools menu), open the project in HR and see that is in the project directory.

I don't know how the rhbag.apj file fits in - if HR it rebuilt according to the tables of the CPD, or he has a life of its own and informs somehow WebHelp generator. You need to work on this issue, after you have cleaned the database.

    I hope this helps.
