  It's a weird thing.

  I just encountered a very strange problem when you open one of the excel files located on a Linux Samba Shared running file server.

  My laptop physics has a Dual Core 2 Duo 2.27 GHz, 4 GB of RAM and Windows 7 Pro 32-bit.

  My Desktop view has 2 vCPU (UC from host to 2.99 GHz/Core with base 16), 4 GB of RAM and Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit.

  Note: The Desktop view is located on the FusionIO card locally on the server, so it is lightning fast.

  When I open excel file from my physical office, need you 3 seconds to open and 5 seconds to enable the content (because it is a big xls file with a bunch of MACRO and LINKS to a different worksheet)

  When I opened that same excel view Desktop file, it takes you 18 seconds to open and 1 minute to activate the content.

  Anyone happened to have the same problem with their environment to experience?

  Do you mind sharing some tips to solve this?

  Finally, be able to locate the problem.

  It was Sophos EndPoint AV for vShield that I deployed for assessment.

  Once I turned off politics, everything is back to normal.

  Couldn't believe that via vShield endpoint was causing all this because I tried Symantec and BitDefender for vShield before and no problem at all.

  Well.

  I hope that Sophos or VMware vShield team has a solution for me.

  To obtain external access to comments (access the guest from the host), you must configure the IP static within the guest (Linux) as below and restart the network (service network restart)

  eth0 is a dynamic IP (DHCP) to get wireless internet access

  eth1 is a static IP address

  I made a copy of a computer virtual with Vmware converter and it is sitting on the windows file server, is there a way to copy the files to the server, ESX4?  Something like a copy and paste?

  Simply right click on the data store you want to place the files on (Summary tab when selecting one of the hosts connected to this data store), select "Browse the data store" and then use the button "transfer files to this data store. You can use it to download a folder or file from a target, that you access from your system. It might make things easier if you create a folder in the store of data first, and then download the files one at a time. Make sure that the virtual machine is turned off when you do.

  Another option might be to vMotion/migrate it from current storage to a data store in the ESX environment. I did not the same type of migration before, it will or will not be, works correctly. I moved files VM from a source, see my workstation, up to a data store that the ESXi host has a connection to before without problem (with the virtual machine powered off course).

• Network card works no-Windows home server on VMWare server 2.0.1

  I installed Windows Home Server on VMWare server 2.0.1 and the card in Device Manager Ethernet OS says "this device cannot start (code 10)". Device Manager shows AMD PCNET Family PCI Ethernet Adapter and the current drivers are also installed. I installed the Home Server by selecting other 32 bit OS in the virtual machine.   Close the comments.  Edit the vmx by hand file and change the line ethernet0.virtualDev = "vlance" to "e1000" (add the line if it does not exist).  Back-light the prompt and install the driver for Intel E1000 network map.

  This means generally that there is a dubious message on the Server Windows Live Mail will not or can not download. Connect to the Web e-mail account and start by clearing out the junk mail folders and deleted .

  Then, create a new folder and move the contents of the Inbox to the new folder. Try to send/receive again in Windows Live Mail - it works now, or you see an error message? No new e-mail message should appear in the status bar.

  You can then return half of the messages to the new folder in the Inbox and then send/receive again in Windows Live Mail. Repeat until the error occurs, if you can identify any rogue message that won't download.

• VMFS or Passthrough - for storage for the 2012 Windows spaces

  Dear community,

  Running the last 5.5 ESXi, I don't know how to set up my storage.

  I have the opportunity to use a controller to 8 ports SAS as passthrough, directly to my Windows Server 2012 VM, storage running. This option makes the controller unusable for any other virtual machine, as my server from 2012.

  There fore I however just about (vmdk) disks do 'normal' virtual and using storage in Windows 2012. This would be more versatile I could use all drives on the controller for the other virtual machines as well. However, I can't find the pros and cons on this option.

  I'm looking for so the community here direct advice, VMDK files or passthrough, for Windows Server 2012 with storage spaces.

  I always go with VMFS on IO DirectPath (passthrough) unless there is a reason to not. DirectPath IO offers a little less latency / fees generals but you offer a lot of flexibility that VMware can offer you. So in your case, when there is no particular requirement, I would go with VMFS. 64 TB VMDK and WS 2012 are also supported by ESXi 5.5 that is not a reason to go with passthrough either.

  Also note that when you use passthrough, and you run ESXi in this same controller (not via a USB stick or something like that), it might not even work or you can run into strange problems. One of my colleagues said a hub USB all in passthrough mode, resulting in a USB keyboard no longer works in the console VMware (DCUI). Then I would certainly be careful with this configuration.

  I suggest you to check that the windows update history to verify that Windows update may cause the problem.

  (a) click on the "Start" button and select "Control Panel" from the menu that appears.

  (b) double click on "Add or Remove Programs".

  (c) click the checkbox next to 'Show the update' at the top of the window.

  (d) locate the "Windows XP - software updates" header. Below, you will find a list of updates all the date where they have been installed and the installation of the window.

  Provide us update KB number that may cause the closing.

  You can also use the shutdown Event Tracker to stop suddenly.

  Hello Diramos,

  That is a difficult question because OMSA stopped supporting older systems of the gen 8 back to 6.x what OMSA 6.5 works with 8 Gen but most customers will find the more stable 5.5 with 8 gen systems.  Now, the other problem is that Sever 2012 is not listed as an operating system supported for Dell 8th gen systems either.  Obviously, it works, since you have it installed, but you may encounter compatibility problems.  Particularly like this this is not a systems management configuration that will work well.

  Windows 2008 R2 work OMSA 6.5.

• P2V Windows file server migration (VMware Converter 4)

  We use VMWare ESX 3.5.

  We want to migrate a physical file of MS Windows Server VMWare (ESX 3.5). The physical server has a C: drive of 40 GB and a 300 GB D: drive

  We would like to use VMWare converter, to migrate the server and to develop the drive C: for the virtual server is 80 GB, however we are concerned the 300 GB d: partition since it will take some time, and while the P2V, we might have some users access to stocks (on server co-location) and modifiyng files during migration.  So, if this caught there is a potential risk of losing business data.

  I learned that the VMWare Converter 4 can do a live migration and once completed the P2V it can track changes and then synchronizes them when you turn off the physical system.

  I was wondering if someone knows about this type of functionality on 4 VMConverter and knows how to use it?

  You can resize the disks so that the migration using VMWare converter. It is not only to take care on the disk, it is resized the partition, also.
