MD1120 with PERC H800

Hello

I have a R710 with a unused H800 controller in it. I would hang a few of MD1120 turned off the server, but there is no information of compatibility for this combination.

The H800 documentation claims that it is backward compatible with / 3 Gb/s, but don't not specify clearly he will work with the MD1120. I guess I would need to get a cable SFF-8470 SAS SFF-8088 just to connect.

But before we go through all of this on a production server, I wish I had an idea of if it would work.

Any guidance is the most appreciated!

-Tom

It is not a supported configuration (only the MD1200/MD1220 are officially supported on the H800), but I suspect it would work very well.

Indeed, you would need to look for a suitable cable. Dell will probably not sell this cable as it is not necessary for the supported configurations, but there are many other providers that will probably sell it.

Hello I'm trying to configure Raid 12 1 (two pairs disks) in my Inbox MD 1220 with PERC H800. I am able to mirror 9 virtual disks but when I select my 9th virtual to the mirror, no drives appear as available. My computer is running in a kind of limitation of Raid 1 with Cabinet / card? Operating system: Windows 2008 R2 Datacenter Open Manage 7.4 Latest firmware / drivers for PERC H800 thanks! Hi Joey

I just tried OMCleanup and reinstalled 7.4.  He exhibited the same symptoms showing is not the physical drives in the H800.  I can't find a download 7.2 but would be willing to try the previous versions.  A previous version of OM worked with the same controllers / speakers / computer, but I do not remember the version where I improved.  (I am an individual shop and am not very informed when it comes to managing open, its versions and how to install/uninstall).

I can still kill the DSM SA connection Service by running a foolish occupation for the H800 report.  The report H700 works fine.

You can't update a PERC 6 / i with PERC H700 firmware. It is not an update of the firmware you need - you need a new/different controller card.

  • BSOD drives when adding T110 ii with PERC H200 and SBS 2011 or Server 2008 R2-

Bought the server next in November 2011

    PowerEdge T110 II

    RAM: 16 GB (4 x 4) 1333 mhz UDIMM DualRanked

    Drive: 2 x 600GB 15K RPM SCSI 6Gbps 3 .5in - RAID 1 Mirror SA
    SBS 2011 standard x 64 (works on Win 2008R2)

SBS 2011 installed without a problem and the server works perfectly since December 2011.  Backups occurring twice per day to a USB attached hard drive external 1.5 to and OS patches applied on a monthly basis without problem.

Company need more storage so it wanted to add 2 drives more (same spec as to purchase). I thought to try to turn the RAID 1 pair in RAID 10 set in order to keep the simple logical configuration (a single large logical volume which now seems to be 1.2 TB in size instead of 600 GB) - could get but not really someone to describe if it could be done for non-destructive way that requires not the complete system installation/restoration - so opted for just add the 2 new drives as a RAID extra 1 pair in order to not reach a stable, boot, partition operating system running on the current RAID 1 pair.

Contracted for the Dell technician to come out to install 2 new readers, be clear that the service was not complete until I had an extra pair of RAID 1, appearing as a usable operating system.

Technician arrived, installed readers, set the new RAID pair in the H200 configuration utility, rebooted the system and when the BONES began to load had a blue screen BSOD. Technician then disconnected drives newly associated (the level of the cables) to see if the system would boot - BSOD again on restart (both of now get us this "pleated" feel if you know what I mean). Then went into the raid configuration utility, removed the new raid 1 volume (which, by the way, is appeared above the one existing in the list - which is not very intuitive that one that has been added is Volume 1 and the existing old is Volume 2 in the utility). After the triple-checking that we had the right volume (it showed that 8% initialized over the other which was complete, as well as the corresponding drive port numbers), we have REMOVED the new volume (at this point I don't remember if we had replaced the cables for the readers to perform this action).

At startup the system rebooted normally - we were all so relieved, don't talk over retries at the moment.

Talk to Dell there seems to be a problem with the PERC H200 firmware or drivers. Has not affected the config initial of a single pair of RAID 1, however caused problems when you attempt to add another pair. Escalation of Dell support said that has happened several times with Windows 2008 (which comes from the SBS 2011) systems. They recommended that the firmware update and the PERC H200 card drivers.

I turned to the technician and asked when we could plan the updates of the firmware and driver and told him that they wouldn't do that (not sure that I blame the poor guy, he was sweating bullets after the BSOD 2nd).  I explained that we have contracted for installation services which included ensuring that the pair of extra disk appeared also usable for the operating system and he said that I needed to talk to Dell that.

You wanted to post information on issues with PERC H200 BSOD when adding disks on Win2008 (or SBS 2011).

Waiting for response from Dell as to who will come on-site to complete the installation.

Any info about the question to know if the update of the firmware/driver will solve the problem or if I can do with reliability a disk 2 RAID 1 for a 4 disk RAID 10 conversion without having to reinstall/restore system would be appreciated.

There is NO migration route TO or FROM a nested RAID levels (10, 50, 60) on one of the PERC H series, so it goes from 1 to 10 of RAID is not an option (without backup/replace/create/restore).

Firmware release notes do not indicate that a large part is added (although the "bugs" may be enough):

-Addition of Support for > 2.2 to SAS hard drives

    -Small bug fixes

I have not seen/heard talk of this problem (I don't have a H200), but it is possible that an update of the firmware can change the way it handles the new disks, newly configured RAID arrays, or even how it presents to the OS.

Do you know if the technician checked to see if the original VD was marked as boot VD?

  • PE SC440 and PERC H800/810

Hi all.  Can't find a good answer online and thought, that I would ask here.

    The PowerEdge SC440 will support a PERC H800 or 810?  I'm looking to connect a MD1200 or 1220.

Any ideas or comments are welcome.  Let me know if you need further information.  Thank you!

    Macc23,

Unfortunately the SC440 will not support the H800 series controllers. The only controllers supported for the server the U320 scsi controller or SAS5/ir. Which can take in charge the MD1200/1220.

Sorry I don't have the answer you are looking for. Let me know if this helps to clarify things.

This doesn't seem to be a reference number based in the United States, which probably explains the exorbitant prices and lack of availability.

That you linked to are also SAS cables (power and data)-they also accept SATA drives, but they are not necessary if you plan never to use SATA drives.

  • Driver problem: Windows Server 2008 R2 on server T110 II with PERC S300 (RAID10)

I have the Dell PowerEdge T110 II server with PERC S300 RAID card.  I installed 4 hard drives & them set on RAID10 in initial configuration.  The card mother recognizes the PCI-E card, which in turn recognizes readers.

I pop in the Windows Server 2008 R2 DVD and I start from DVD, but when I get to the part where I have to choose a file location, it appears that he is not a player available.  There is another option to add a driver.  Then I went on the site ( http://tinyurl.com/PercS300driver) downloaded appropriate driver, added to USB & when I get to this screen, I'm trying to add the driver.  However, he said "there is no signed in this folder drivers."

Does anyone know what I might be missing?

You are using the wrong driver.  The one you linked to says it's for Server 2008 x 86.  As 2008 R2 64-bit only, there is no way it will work.  Use this driver for 2008 R2 (you must change the drop down menu on site driver downloads / to the correct operating system):

    www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails

Be sure to run first to extract it, and then put the contents extracted on your CD/DVD/USB for use with the link to load a driver.

Since you're under 2008 R2, you might be able to run the Package version of update for Microsoft Windows, but since 2008 R2 is not supported on the T7600, it may not work properly, then you can try the hard drive version.  Since the H800 is not supported on the T7600 at all, it is possible that none of the Dell drivers will work.

  • Online capacity expansion (OCE) with Perc 6 / i and omconfig

    Hello

    I have a server R710 PE with a PERC6 / i controller.

I have a RAID 5 with 4 disks and now I need to expand available space.

I replaced the old records of a 1 TB and enabled the RAID rebuild. I now have a RAID5 with 1 TB of the TB 2 available.

I read that I could use to extend the RAID OMSA webinterface or omconfig command.

In the web interface does not exist to "reconfigure" under System--> Storage--> PERC 6 / i--> virtual disks,--> RAID5. OMSA v7.1.0

I then turned to the omconfig and found that something like this should work:

    / opt/Dell/srvadmin/bin/omconfig storage controller vdisk = 0 vdisk = 1 raid = r5 pdisk = 0:0:2, 0:0:3, 0:1:4, 1:0:5 action = reconfigures size = max
    but she translates:
Invalid size setting: reconfiguring size cannot be specified by the user on this controller.

Even if the PERC6 / i supports Online Capacity Expansion according to the documentation.

Then I tried to use 'vdcapacityexpansion = yes sizeinpercent = 100' even though it is specified that only the H700 and H800 controllers support this. Of course it failed but where do I go from here?

I have even 4 unused TB of disk space. Wouldn't be an idea to try to remove one disk and reset or is it at the level of the vdisk that change is necessary?

    Concerning

    Bo Riis

This is not how Online Capacity Expansion works; It works by adding disks to the existing RAID, no replacement of discs with the largest.  For example, you could expand your RAID 5 4x1TB to a disc-5 (or more) RAID 5 by adding and reconfigure the table with other drives of 1 TB or more (even if only 1 TB would be used).  The only thing you can after replacement/repair of disks is individually create a second table on the disks (called slicing); It will appear to the OS as a new/entity 'drive '.

  • R210 with PERC H200 will increase the possibilities for HD

I have a PE R210 w/PERC H200.  The RAID configuration is RAID 1 2 HD.  I was looking at options to increase the storage capacity.  Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that it is not possible to extend the VFD by improving each hd one at a time to rebuild the RAID VD, then its extension to occupy unused space in HD.  There is no other HD slots available on the R210, along with options to do I have if I want to keep the current VD but increase the storage space on the server?

Backup, replace the disks with the biggest, configure RAID, restore from a backup.

Yes, both of these tools have a CLI, so you can make scripts, here is the manual of the CLI server administrator as is the monitoring tool.

  • Expanding RAID 10 on Dell R730 with Perc h730P

    Hi all

We try to develop an array of RAID 10 on a server rack with a h730P Perc controller Dell R730. We currently have 6, 600 GB SAS drives in RAID 10 Bay. When he clicks on the controls to perform an action it really gives us only to assign Global Hot Spare. There is no option for "Task Reconfigure" on the virtual drive to increase the table to include 2 new readers. I'm not sure how to proceed. It is a server recently bought last year. We use OpenManage Server Administrator to try to achieve this. Reading some forums it seems that we will see a "reconfigure tasks" on the drop of virtual drive, but we do not have.

    Thank you

You cannot reconfigure a nested table of RAID (RAID 10, 50 and 60).

You must save, create table, restore.

  • PowerEdge 2900 (and 2950) with PERC 5i - extend Raid 5

    Hello

I have a Dell (PowerEdge 2900) server with a Raid PERC 5i (with BBWC) controller and 4 SATA drives installed (a virtual disk Raid 5, Windows 2008).

Now I have an extra drive (same capacity, same speed) and installed on the server.

I tried to expand the existing virtual disk (and the disk group) with the new physical disk drive in the BIOS of the controller and openmanage server administrator (managed node) running on windows.

But it is not possible to do with this Raid Cntrl?

Is there a way to do this without loss of data and maintenance of raid 5 redundancy?

The same procedure I need to do on a PE2950 (PERC5i)

    Thank you and best regards,

    loop11

What have you tried exactly, and what has happened or what have you seen?  You did not mention anything that leads me to believe that you tried this in the right place :)

The PERC 5 / I can do without a doubt:

With the disc, go to OMSA, PERC, case/bottom of basket, storage, physical disks and make sure your drive shows ready.

If ready, go to the OMSA, storage, PERC, virtual disks, select Reconfigure in the drop down menu to your RAID 5, follow the wizard to add the disk.

If the record shows the foreign, go to the OMSA, storage, PERC, Information/Configuration (link at the top of the page), click on foreign/clear in the dropdown menu, then follow the directions above.

  • Server Dell r610 with PERC 6 / i controller

    Hello

M using dell r610, which is configured with PERC6 / i controller, problem is I want to know when I configured the RAID-0 and remove my disk only, fails to get the boot, how to solve this problem?

Once again, I want to know:

    1. with the raid configuration are we able to expand the size of the disk (from 2 TB to 3 TB) without lossing data

2 are we able to use this server with No.-raid because raid will be risky in the case of a disk failure and won't lose data...?

((1-Yes, you can, but ONLY if 1) your system is currently in UEFI boot mode and 2) you are not currently using a RAID 10 (or have several bays on the disks).

2 n ° on PERC 6 does not support the RAID/JBOD. RAID is ONLY risky if the USER chooses a risky RAID level (RAID 0 should be used for specific reasons by experienced professionals).

RAID 0 has NO fault tolerance.

  • Have a R610 with PERC 6i, but only see options for RAID 0 or 1

My Google-fu fails me. I'm completely lost here. I just bought a R610 with the following:

    (5) 146 GB 15K SAS drives

    16 GB OF RAM

Looking at the configuration utility I see only the options to create RAID 0 or 1. I was hoping to do RAID 10. Looking at the BIOS I have a PERC 6i, who should be able to RAID 10. Help.

Yes, you have the SAS 6/IR. None of these options you describe exist in the PERC. You will be limited in RAID 0 or 1.
