  • Microsoft Agent is calling me home?

I was just a guy over home phone keep in touch.  He said he worked for Microsoft and said that my computer has a lot of problems and that he would try to help me fix.  He appointed me, and then we started a www.ammyy.com remote desktop connection (I was really suspicious).  He finally asked me what 'protection plan' I'd rather buy (between $ 109 and $ 299) and I said I wasn't interested.  It then open the Task Manager and saw that he was trying to shut down of windows Explorer (I know would be closed to everything) I stopped him 3 or 4 times and then he said "Let me do my job."  He has completed the process and I knew, my computer shuts...  I was really upset and hanged the phone.   I have caller ID on my phone and I would like to know if it's really a Microsoft Agent

I already gave you good advice about what to do about your financial accounts where:

"Aa you gave them remote access and if you do Internet banking, contact your bank, explain, and change passwords. .

If you use your online credit card, cancel and get a new one issued to you.

"And the only way that willl you know that you are free to them is to backup your data and do a clean install of your operating system.

  • The hotfix Microsoft Agent - downloaded file is faulty

A MICROSOFT WINDOWS PATCH HAS A DEFECT IN THE PROGRAM

    ************************************************
    SUMMARY/BRIEF ANSWER:
    ************************************************

    It's the Microsoft Agent PATCH

    (Defective file: 395039_intl_i386_zip.exe)

HOTFIX is suggested for Wndows 7 but:

    (1) the work does not correctly; and (2) do not extract properly

The first problem is caused by the incorrect and misleading program asking for a password. This password request appears to be an artifact of programming.

The second problem is confirmed by selecting a place known for the extraction of file: it can easily be confirmed that the file - which is supposed to be self-extracting - does not extract directory/folder location.

NOTE: The deceptively program reports that the files of zip archive was extracted, although, as it is easy to check, this is not the case.

My system is a HP Compaq Presario CQ42, which has Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed.

I downloaded the Microsoft Agent Hotfix from the Microsoft site.

This is the fix that seems faulty - in more ways than one:

    395039_intl_i386_zip.exe

It's supposed to be self-extracting and solve this problem, but it doesn't seem to be mining and requires a password that is not defined. I am the owner and the only user on my laptop and have no trouble installing anything else - if any program wants to make chamges on my Kaspersky 2010 (my internet security program) hard drive request confirmation. (Who did not with this fix, which wasn't even a problem.)

Here is what happened (as noted in my response to feedback from the site in the feedback form page that I came back after that extraction of fix seems to be constantly failing, while at the same time have reported that it had extracted from the zipped file).

MY FEEDBACK SITE CITY TO MICROSOFT RESPONSE:
    __________________________________________________

"I downloaded the fix for Microsoft Agent, but he asked me for a password. I tried to jump and I tried to use my administrator password, and I tried "Empty space" as password - if she says that all the files have been extracted this wasn't the case, I think - Norbert, they were extracted into a directory by default, not the selected one - because, although I tried to do the extraction with the default directory I also did it with an another directory - THE FILES WERE NOT EXTRACTED IN IT!

"Why so the hotfix dialog box saying they were when they were not...". and has been the password requested my password administrator or something I know that Microsoft has left in the hotfix by mistake? »

    POSTSCRIPT:

If the fix installed properly, then he did it in a default directory (C :) regardless of my choice, this rental selection dialog box is so confusing and misleading.) I have no way of knowing if she was installing because I can't extract zip archive in a known directory.

Demand for the password dialog box is also source of confused, and if a password is not necessary so that this dialog box is doing here? And what password he asks? (Apart from requiring a password, this dialog box offers two other options 'ignore' and 'always jump'. I wish that all passwords have been so EASILY OBTAINED [by me at least!] ... apparently, apparently, or did the extraction FAIL - for reasons of security, that could be because the programmer has left a password security Microsoft internal dialog box in the code for the calculation of fix to still hampered by no other in Microsoft while he or she wrote the program for the patch?)

(By the way, I don't know why you make more Agents - one to talk to, maybe - they are so cute!)

    Thank you, Andrew!

I did as you said: I received the password in the email I received.

Then, I downloaded the hotfix file by using the hyperlink providedinthe email to access the patch correct download page. It's simple and straightforward.

It seems to be exactly the same file I had already downloaded that didn't work before (without password).

I used the password to unlock the zipped file.

Two files were extracted from my chosen target (a folder to unzip) directory:

    Hotfix.txt

    and...

    Windows6.1 KB 969168-x 86.msu

I clicked on the .msu file and the patch was then automatically and correctly installed on my computer.

    Thank you

  • A Microsoft agent called me and told me that I need to renew my license windows

A person who is called an agent called me this morning and told me that I need to renew my license of windows 7. The operating system provided with the computer when I bought it from Tigerdirect (and he got his inventory directly from asus) and I think he has a great chance of being a scam. He said a life time license costs $100 and I want to ask you if Microsoft really has this kind of agents and if I should trust him?

There are a lot of these current scams.  Microsoft does not make unsolicited calls:

  • Microsoft Agent restored my Windows Vista Home Premium Remote but am now prompted to activate.

Two weeks ago, I contacted Microsoft take charge of assistance to install the Windows SP2. Over two days, I worked with a Microsoft support officer who finally restored Windows Vista Home Premium Remote because I don't have my Windows backup of disks. I got a very strange call they stated they were by Microsoft of Florida? They are in Seattle Washington aren't? in any case they said that I was hacked and was marked with red?  and it was scary that Microsoft calls me on a phone? Well they tried to get into my computer, and then I told them Microsoft dose do not call someone? then, as he did with a focus to talk to me and I decided to go to Microsoft and check my account and found I had to go through security special and changed my password got a new special code to access my account, so that phone call I believe in my gut was a pirate himself cause I was at Microsoft and said I'm at Microsoft now what happened to my account? They never hung up I called back, they said that they tried to send me an email? not never received any email from Microsoft at all. What is a hacker pretending they were Microsoft? Then I never received a call from type y Microsoft.  I have this name and phone number on my caller ID. A Microsoft person really call me to help me? I need help here thanks

It is a scam, hang up without giving them any info.

  • Fake Microsoft Agent?

    Dear community of Microsoft,

IM Jules in Vienna and I'm a Microsoft 8 and 7 peripheral 2 deifferent reviews. I use Microsoft Softwar, since Windows 95 and you have never personally spoke to a Microsoft Worker. Today, I received the second until this call on my personal mobile phone this month, of a person who claims to work at Microsoft. The first call was made by a man, today a woman spoke to me. Both times the topic of the conversation was directed to a very short introduction of themselves ("Hi, I'm XYXYXY from Microsoft, Im calling because...") to my computer. I was warned, that my computer has been downloading malicious software and spyware.

One of my devices (computer laptop windows 8) shows really strange signs of the behavior. Do not let me update software and stop down out of nowhere is some of the symptoms.

I have not yet taken action to fix this portable, so that it is more than a secondary device.

So my Question is. I have it treated too lightly? am I or my personal data endangered? Microsoft can cause my cell number and they call me? Should I stay on the phone the next time that I am called in this way?

I'm really hoping to be useful and soothing, I hope that the answers to my questions. Thank you in advance.

    regards Jules

Concerning the problem with your devices in Windows 8, it is best to post it as a new post and describe the problem with your unit include the time problem started and error messages (if any) in detail.
