  • Using the model WRT54G v.3 for the wireless with my computer

I have been using the router for 4 yearsw with a cable.  Now, I want to go wireless.

When I go on my Dell laptop, I see that I am connected and I have good signal.  But he is blocked.

I used the instructions in Dell diagnostics, and he said get the address and type it in the web browser, then follow the instructions.

A submenu appears when I did it, and he asked my user name and password.  I did have one, so I called Linksys.  They couldn't help me because it was out of warranty, even though today is the first time that I tried to go wireless.  They gave me this address to get my user name and password.  I can't find.

What should I do to unlock my connection so I can use the wireless router?  Thank you, Dex

So this means that you don't know the security key for your wireless network, in this case you must connect to your router configuration page and find the security key. Here's the instruction how to find your wireless security key.

Open an Internet Explorer browser on your computer (desktop) wired page. In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Let the empty user name & password use admin lowercase... (If you have changed the password for the router, you must connect to the router using this password).

For wireless settings, follow these steps: -.
    Click on the Wireless tab...

    For wireless security: -.
Click the sub-tab under wireless > wireless security... and below, you will find the Security Mode and your security key. Note your security key, and now you can try to connect to your network wireless using this security key.

If you want to disable security on your router, under the Security Mode, select Disable and click on save settings.

  • Installation with WRT310N wireless router problem

I have currently an old model WRT54G Router installed wireless that works very well, but I need the WPS technology if I want to install a newer model WRT310N router. I used the installation cd supplied with the router, which has not seen any problem until I removed the old router and plugged in power in the new after connecting the anc ethernet cables to my cable modem. For some reason any the software wont recognize the new router so I can continue with the configuration of the installation. Since I plugged the new router in the same connections that I had had the old LInksys router connected to, I do not understand why and I can not proceed with the installation. I finally just reinstalled... connected., my old router and it works fine, but this isn't a solution for me.

It might have something to do with the sequence to connect the different cables? I also tried to use 192.168.1.1. via my browser and could up the installation screens but it wont let me install the new router so that the old one is still in place and without the old one in place, I can not access the configuration on my desktop screens.

I have my router in a closet with my... cable modem... .but the WRT54G worked fine for 2 years in the same cupboard and I also installed a Netgear N600 router as an alternative. is it installed fine until what happened to the point where he said the beach was too limited. .i guess work in the closet.  I guess I can buy a range extender to solve this problem, but I have no experience with those so im not sure if this will solve the problem. I prefer to get the Linksys WRT310N to work if possible.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Thanks for the tips on how to handle this. Fortunately, I discovered later that the Linksys router, I bought on ebay, is apparently defective and it now resides in my trash. That said, I also realized with the help of a neighbor that my Kindle works with the good old Linksys router I used for 4 years or more. My problem was to not understand how to download books on the Kindle, even though I thought I did. So the problem is moot. Sorry I got worth this site with no problem.

  • access to a drive on another computer

I use a LinkSys model: WRT54G Version: 6 router set to use WEP.

I have two computers, the main office and a laptop for mobile use.

How to configure the LinkSys to allow the laptop to access an external USB drive (mapped) to the Office?

The laptop can access the drive mapped on the desktop when it is wired to the LinkSys (i.e. not wireless), but I can't find a reference in the manual in Pdf or online on how to access the drive on the desktop from the laptop the laptop is connected via WiFi.

The office is running XpSp3 and the laptop is Vista.

A second and more important issue is to do this. The drive via the WiFi access is possible with adequate security. I would rather err on the side of caution.

Any suggestions and/or instructions would be appreciated.

Way the easiest is to share the folders you want. Right-click on it and go to the sharing and security to share. Then on the other computer, click Start, and type \\computername

where ComputerName is the name or IP address of the computer you are trying to connect to.

It can promt for password depending on how it is configured, but should show you something that is shared on this computer, external hard disk, or otherwise.

Or if you do not want to type the ComputerName every time, you may also right click on my computer and map a drive to a share

You can try the following steps and check after these power covers or not...

    • Hold down the button to reset for about 30 seconds, then unplug the unit while you always hold down reset button.
    • leave unplugged for about 5 seconds, while you always hold down reset button.
    • Reconnect power to the unit while you always hold down reset button.
    • After about 5 seconds, let go turn off the reset button.
    • Visit the Web page of the router.

Also, is it possible to implement a guest with a WRT54GS environment or is it simply an option in the most recent routers.

You can try limit the DHCP range, you can find it on the Setup > Basic Configuration: maximum number of DHCP users

and you can Manage which users by: status > Local network: Table of DHCP Clients (you can delete an unauthorized user)

or you can even set to disable DHCP on your router, so each client who wants to join, have to set a static IP address for their PC (a bit more), but I think that this way is not too effective, given that your network password may be spread so easily , I do not think that your network address (192.168.xx.xx) will be different... > _

I think the best way is to change the daily lives of password,

but the most convenient way is to buy the router series E, because even if they can access the guest account, they can't mess with your Local network... Access invited, is the one who make a huge different in my opinion ^ ^

  • Adding a new wireless router from Linksys at an old Linksys router system

    Hello

I'll install a new standalone DVR to a home video surveillance system.  I would like to be able to access it with my current PC so I would like to add a Linksys wireless router.

I'm currently 1 Linksys Wireless - G Broadband Router with speed Booster model WRT54GS-BP and 2 models WMP54GS from PC that have PCI adapters Wireless-G with speed Boosters (802.11 g).  I had these installed since 2006 and although they are no longer supported I really want to have to upgrade because they work very well.

    My questions are:

If I add a new Linksys router to my new DVR will be able to communicate with my older Linksys router and adapters?   If Yes, what would be the best new router Linksys type should I buy?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

    Hi Dan,.

Please excuse the delay of time here, but I had a hard time to post a reply.  I added Ethernet Wireless-N - WET610N bridge.  When I installed the software, I kept getting error 102 - an error occurred communicating with your device.  I called Linksys for help and the tech had me make a few changes to the router 192.168.1.1.  I was able to install the Web Service to display the camera on both of our PC.  So the addition of the WET610N allowed us to access the DVR wireless!

Thanks a lot for all your help!

On the desktop, that's where hung the modem and the wireless router. Well as we all know, sometimes the connection bleeps out for a fraction of a second. Well, I can't have that all the time so today I moved the modem and the device wireless for my laptop for a dedicted connection more. No problem.

I bought a BELKIN USB wireless adapter and wouldn't connect. He finds the modem and everything, but it would bounce back and fourth to acquire a network NOT CONNECTED address and then bounce immediately try to find the address. My provider of property intellectual has said that it is because I have a LINKSYS router, so I should have a LINKSYS adapter too. WLAN Intel concludes very well, but it bounces back and fourth of the Acquriring network address and NOT CONNECTED every few seconds. I even install on my laptop and it does the same thing! Hi all

I want to thank everyone in advance * beep * 1 built in (DVD burning directly downloaded from the microsoft technet web site).
Virus/Malware protection: no (because I've been connected to no more than 3 minutes, did not visit all other sites as microsoft.com or google.com on this pure install and am sure it's not either 99.99%).  I'm also behind my wireless linksys integrated in the firewall (model #: wrt54g), although my computer is directly connected by a LAN cable.
I partitioned the 640 GB HARD drive in a 200 GB C drive and 400 GB of storage using Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise server.

I did a complete reinstall of Vista Ultimate 64 bit (even once with Service Pack 1 built in).  I really don't want to do an upgrade, like #1) I already activated my new copy of Vista Ultimate 64 and also #2) I don't want any additional programs installed with the original operating system on the system (Windows Vista Home Premium).

I backed up my old Vista Home Premium and Vista Ultimate (pre and post authentication).

I have installed any other programs.

I tried to download the current drivers for my system to...

Drive D: (original Image) has changed to drive F ("F' actory_Image)

My question arrise when I open IE7 and try to goto several websites which (I'm fairly certain) makes a system call the IE 7 plant.  I'll post all the errors below.  This same exception also blocks the windows sidebar in a few moments of implementation of the operating system.

The following errors are created when in stall 'certain' drivers (from memory, I think that the HD Audio driver)
"This program could not have installed correctly".

If this program was not installed correctly, try reinstalling using settings that are compatibiel with this version of windows.

    Jayjay,

Thanks again for the quick response.  Finally, I discovered that I have installed a copy of the bad/debugging of my BONES from the site web technet.  While I'm still holding my breath, I have not seen any recurrence of the previous major problems (i.e. crash IE7 & sidebar).  I'll see how the drivers for my sound card, but it seems that windows sees as HD Audio device.  I can just "let sleeping dogs lie" and call it all off.  No matter, I'll make a backup of this 'success' more returned.

Thanks again for all your support.

Also, FYI, it's the 32 and 64-bit version of ie7 crashed.  I think it had something to do with the file "mshtml.dll.  Anyway, that's how I found the solution to...

    http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/ASPNET/32760139/IE7-crash-mshtmldll-Err.aspx

It is a 32-bit system, it also seems to describe a lot of problems that I came across.

With audio beeps, I ended up having the work to reverse the default windows (again, it is in the older operating system).

In addition, some other oddities that I would like to post (in case some unfortunate soul happens to have the same problem and stumbles on this page).

    (1) during startup (before the windows loading popped up bar), it would always be 'check' my hard drives connected, say something to the extent of the "Drive?: checked and OK" or something similar.

    (2) this particular build continued throwing exceptions to a player that I had ever installed software, wording of error below is very accurate (for the part that I copied).

Failed in the declaration of report file
    d:\rtm\enduser\officeconvertors\src\core\html\imain.c, line 352.
Cannot open the registry key for converer!

In any case, for those who want a solution, try to upload a better copy of Vista.   I personally just installed the Vista Ultimate Edition with Service Pack 2 Beta.

  • [WRT54GS] Forward a port to a different port

    Hello

I have the router WRT54GS v1.1. His version of software is v4.71.1

I want to forward a port (e.g. 80) on a different port on my server on my area (for example, 8080).

So when a user signs in to http://domain.com url, the request is forward on port 8080 of my server.

I found on the page of my router configuration, port forwarding, but the target port cannot be specified.

    Is this possible?

    Thanks for your help.

    Sausage

N ° it is not possible with the Linksys firmware. Linksys added port forwarding only in later models.

If you need you can try the 3rd party firmware like dd - wrt. Allow you to forward ports.

  • WRT54G can't internet

    My 'network' looks like this:

    CABLE MODEM ===> WRT54G

    WRT54G Port1 ===> PC

PC running Windows/XP sp3 with all updates installed. However, there is no wireless network card.

Label to the WRT54G ver.2 Watch model number. I don't think that the firmware has been upgraded.

It's used to work. What has changed? The laptop which allows you to connect wireless is dead. I now have a 2nd PC located on the same table as the old PC. There is no wireless card with at this stage, but ultimately it is the old computer, will receive his internet connection without wire - ly, as computers will physically be in separate rooms. I don't see how these changes would affect the operation of the router.

I have no idea how to solve this.

    TIA,

    Phil

Hi cellist.p and welcome to the forums!

Have you tried power cycling? If not, try turning off the computer > router > modem and set up the modem > router > computer to see if it works. If not, access the router page to see if it has an Internet IP address. Open the browser and then type 192.168.1.1, do not fill in the username and type admin for the password (unless you have changed it before), go to the status tab and check the WAN/Internet IP address.

  • New software download for WRT54GS

Hey all. I use a Linksys WRT54GS v 7.2 router model number. Currently it works fine but I have to reformat my hard drive soon and we have lost the CD that we used to install the drivers.

I was in the downloads section of this site and downloaded the drivers, but it came in a file in .bin format. I tried to run with Daemon Tools, but there was no file cue with him so it didn't work. I tried to make a cue file, and it still does not work. I wanted to test to make sure that it works once I reformatted.

How can I get this software again? If the .bin file is what I need, how can we get to reinstall what I need?

    Thanks a bunch!

Well, since nothing else has been changed... Yes just plug into it like you had and go.  However, if this does not work, you will need to configure it from scratch.  You can download the manual from the site of Linksys or go here to start.  This will get your wired connection going.  However, you need to check your computer's wireless.  Now you need for the wireless network adapter drivers that are available from the manufacturer of the computer.

  • The WRT54G and DC input power versions.

OK, I have many, many models and versions.  I have a WRT54G v1, V1.1, V2... V8, I also of the WRT54GS WRT54GL and others, many other things of Linksys, almost everything in the blue and black of varying sizes boxes.

I have a devil of a time when I reconfigure my network or the woman changes the furniture.  I'd like a single document that lists power specifications and the requirements of adapter for devices of Athens... I can't find them anywhere on Linksys website.  I've searched and searched and nowhere can I find a list of consolidate.  I searched the forums and found many individual inscriptions, but it is a pain.

Someone at - it a list of the power DC specifications, sizes of barrel and other things necessary to buy a replacement power adapter.

This http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys_WRT54G_series page lists a lot of information but does not list this critical information...  If someone send me the list, I'll try to get it posted it.  I'm amazed that Linksys does not listed it some here.  Lose a wall wart should not be a reason to pull you hair, just a simple purchase, if they do not want their stock, then at least tell us what they are.

And Yes, I lost almost all the manuals...

    -jeff

Well it is not possible to find the specification of power supply for all cards in a single list. You must manually locate each model number of your router and check their record and note the power adapter specification.

  • WRT54GS problem

I use the WRT54GS router with two computers, one desktop computer and one laptop, both being CONNECTED to the router. Incidentially, I also have a HP wireless printer.

The office is real slow with downloads and the laptop is 'normal' (much faster).

If I bypass the router and the Office of wire directly to the router then the download speed is 'normal '.

I have updated the firmware of the router. The computer is newer with a dual core cpu.

Speedtest.net speed test have portable download at 8-12 and 1-2 desktop.

    What Miss me?

If you use these router in 2 different locations, which may be the reason why your router settings must have changes, as each ISP has a different type of parameters, then based on it to configure your router.

MTU is the maximum transmission unit (MTU) is the packet size maximum, measured in bytes, that can be transmitted over a network.

Packages are the basic unit information about transport in all modern computer networks and increasingly in other networks of communication as well. They can be of fixed size or different sizes, depending on the type of network and Protocol (i.e., agreed upon model). Whatever its size, each package contains, in addition to its data, a header, which includes the source and destination IP addresses.

All messages larger than the MTU are divided into smaller packets before being sent. Break them to high slower transmission speeds. Ideally, the MTU should be the same as the smallest MTU of all networks between the computer local and destination of a message.

MTU vary depending on the type of Protocol and network. For example, Ethernet (dominant LAN Protocol) has a fixed MTU of 1 500 bytes, ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) has a fixed MTU of 48 bytes and PPP (point to point protocol) has a negotiated MTU which is usually between 500 and 2000 bytes.

The path MTU of an Internet transmission path is the smallest MTU of all hops in the path of the address for transmission to the destination address, which is the same as the largest MTU value that can cross the road without fragmented packets still. A break is a link or router that is passed en route to the destination.
