Modem on a Satellite A60 problem

Hello

I need a little help. Normally, I connect to the Internet using a cable modem. But I must also be able to fax from my pc and sometimes connect using a dial-up modem.

And that is the problem. The internal modem in my machine refuses to recognize the tone and pointed out that there was one every time. I heard a loud noise from the speakers, then only beeps as it tries to establish a connection and fails eventually.

Control Panel, everything seems OK... modem on COM3 is turned on. Change the COM port has no effect. Changing the setting 'pending tone' has no effect. I even disable all firewalls and antivirus, always without any effect. And of course, the cable is perfectly OK, too. This has been verified by plugging another phone and use it with another computer on the same telephone line.

So, I want to know is if there is something I'm missing or do I have a problem with my machine?

Help, please

Thanks in advance,

Iain C

Hello

I found a modem installation procedure at the net, maybe it helps you solve your modem!

1. check if the modem is entered in the Device Manager
2. check if the modem is configured and that it works?
The Control Panel must be open and go to the phone
options of modems and. It should be your modem!
If it is not shown to you, then you must install the
modem driver.
3. double-click on modem and go to the Diagnostics. The
modem query button queries the commandments with
check the return signal. This will give you some additional information
the modem works properly.
4. then set up a standard dial-up connection to your
provider of
5. go in the properties of the modem (Device Manager) and the
Check the brand in the "wait for dial tone before dialing" has NO
been resolved!

I have an A50 and had also some problems when I set up my modem connection! After a short period of trying to set it up, I make it work!

  • Satellite A60: Problem of memory after update Bios V.1.9

    Hi all

I've just updated my bios to version 1.9 last week. Previously, I've upgraded my RAM from 512 MB to 1.5 GB (P4 2.8 GHz., 40 GB HARD drive) and my phone worked perfectly with the old Bios and RAM. After the Bios Update to the new version, 1.9, my laptop does not accept the module of RAM upgrade, windows xp still shows the blue screen, and then restart.

After upgrading RAM off, my laptop works again. I tried several ways to solve this problem as take the battery, then reinsert the RAM or even formatted my HARD drive and installed a new Windows XP, but it didn't work. So what can I do to make my laptop to accept the upgrade of RAM? How to solve this problem? For this reason I now intend to buy a new laptop, if the problem can not be solved since I simulate a program on this laptop, so it requires a lot of memory.

Thank you very much in advance for your answer.

    Hello

I put t really know what is the problem with the new update of the BIOS. In my opinion, you should contact the after-sales Service of Toshiba partner in your country and explain to them the situation. If your new module memory is compatible with the unit you should tell you want to have the old version of the BIOS. As much I know as technicians for this.

If they see that there is a problem with the BIOS update, I'm sure they will for free.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite A60: Unable to connect to the internet via a modem - no dial-up

In my Satellite A60, WinXP Home, when I try to connect to the Internet via the modem of Toshiba, I get error 6: handle not valid, and after a few attempts, I get error 50: all devices connected / request not supported.

Device Manager / network / card Asynchronous RAS displays an error (black exclamation point on a yellow background).
The driver is asyncmac.sys = MS Access Remote network serial driver.

    I have:
-tried to uninstall the RAS asynchronous card, but no luck, didn't say it may be necessary to start
    -modem uninstalled / reinstalled
-update of Windows XP through windows update
-update of the bios / modem / network drivers from Toshiba

No luck, the RAS asynchronous card error is still there.

    Any suggestion?
    Thank you
    Alessio - Italy

I think that this problem is Windows XP and map Asynchronous RAS, not the modem.
The modem correctly composed the number, negotiates the user and the password, and then I get error 6 and 50.
On the internet I found this tip for uninstalling and reinstalling the RAS asynchronous card:
    http://forums.practicallynetworked.com/showthread.php?t=6781
I followed the instructions and run RArepair.exe.
It uninstalls and reinstalls the map Asynchronous RAS, but RAS is still in error (the yellow field in the Device Manager).

  • Re: Satellite A60 - overheating problem

    Hello

I have some difficulties to adjust temperature and fan on my Satellite A60.
The operating system is Debian and the fan operates at temperatures of 60-65 degrees Celsius (without any process started after the login).
I had installed utilities like toshutils, fancontrol, lm-sensors... but basically I have not found a solution for this:

    toshiba_acpi #modprobe
    Error: No such device

    Toshiba #modprobe
    Error: No such device

Now, I ask you advice, please.
If there are no alternative solutions, recompiling the kernel 2.6.24 (or other) is a solution to this problem? If the answer is 'Yes', how to prepare the package source?

Now the system works, but not very well at that latitude this question isn't a good prelude to my summer job.

    Best regards

    HM,

already checked the debian/gentoo/ubuntu forums? Or maybe freshmeat.net where toshutils all appear in their projects?

Unfortunately I can't tell you why the modprobe won´t work but don't you compiled the kernel option ACPI from toshiba? It must be something that controls the trough of explicitly from functions ACPI kernel using the userlevel tools.

By the way: have you read newspapers after trying the modprobe of the listed modules you´ve? Please make the modprobe more 'verbose', there may be something usable...

  • Problems with map graphics on my Satellite A60-672

I have a Satellite A60-672 which graphics by ATI. Repeatedly at startup until it broke down and the system crash online said whenever it is ATI technologies. I sent ATI and they said that there is nothing to do with them.

I tried Toshiba, but none of the work address by e-mail. The crash system tells me to uninstall the software, but given that I put on, I mistrust all this as it may ruin the functioning of my laptop.

Currently, my laptop works very well with this ongoing problem. This happened to someone else or we know how to contact toshiba.

    Thank you

Sounds like a driver problem, you just need to download the Toshiba display driver, uninstall your old ATI driver with the ATI Control Panel, restart and reinstall again.
don't worry this will cause anything on your laptop in addition to repairing damaged files that crash. It is a simple operation.

    Hello

I suspect that your RAM is shared with your graphics (usually 64 MB) so even if you actually 256 MB RAM, 64 MB is pré-alloué graphics use 192 MB. Your computer AOL chack reports available rather than the actual RAM RAM

    Hello

If reinstalling the system does not work, you can try to reinstall the BIOS. If not help too, the problem must be hardware related. Your only chance is a service partner, cause then you can't do it yourself.

  • Power supply plug problems - Satellite A60

Ive got a satellite A60-155 and its just out of warranty, but isn't there always the way I pulled the plug on the back of my laptop and the center of the pin of the plug on the laptop came out with it.
for something that should be quiet robust is not, how many people have had this problem?

I would be interested to know before I phone services to customers in the coming days as its only 12 months and 26 days and Yes have had warranty extended, but these things should not break up

    Hi Kenny,

I have also experienced the center pin breaking on the my SA30 power outlet. As you rightly say, they are not particularly robust and can easily be damaged by something to catch the cable when it is plugged.

The bad news is that the normal remedy is to replace the card mother:(sauf si vous pouvez trouver un réparateur prêt à souder sur une nouvelle prise de courant.)

  • Technical problems with my Satellite A60

I bought a Satellite A60 in last September, and most recently, the computer had some problems.

    1. when I tell my computer to "Shut down", it reboots sometimes
    2. in the load upward, she sometimes displays the error message "the system has recovered from a serious error", without apparent reason
    3. recently, some games and other applications had graphical problems, especially very bad speed slowdown.

What do you think is the problem? I have installed antivirus software and it seems to work. I run defrag and virus checks regularly, and nothing seems to come. Any ideas?

    Hi Tim,.

It seems that you have a windows problem, maybe a few important files have been damaged in the past!

To solve all the problems, it will be the best to recover the windows partition with the Recovery Expert Mode CD!
    Should be retrieved as C:!

Save all your important data, and then you can start to install a new Windows system!
It takes a long time to solve each problem on its own.

  • Satellite A60: charging problem

    Hey,.
I have a toshiba satellite A60 laptop. My laptop has 2 years. After that I used my laptop in battery mode, it fell because the battery was empty. When I plugged it on the net, the battery led flashed amber for less than a second and went back. The battery and the batteryled came out.

Windows detects the battery however. The laptop still continues to operate on the battery for a few minutes. I already had this problem about a year ago, and after a few months the battery began to charge again.

Someone at - it a simular problem and how do you solve?

Thanks (sorry for the bad English)

    Hello

Maybe the battery cannot load properly because he has a malfunction.
Generally, the battery performance decreases the extent of time.
I read that you can charge and discharge the battery about 500 times and then the performance breaks down.
You can try to remove the battery for a few times. After this time try to load it.
I also recommend check if this problem also occurs with a new battery.

But it is also possible that there is something wrong with the electronic power supply.
This could have a negative influence on the loading process.
I also read that the BIOS update have solved some problems of charging the battery.
But if charging the battery worked for 2 years, so I guess that the BIOS is ok.

However, check with a new battery.

  • Modem satellite M30 problem

Does not my modem (Lucent/Agere?) - (downloaded from the Toshiba site) drivers are installed without problem (no warning in Device Manager), but the modem can not open the (virtual) serial port.
I tried all the possible drivers and installation plans.
I installed successfully Nokia mobile (via IR) as a modem and it works without problems. But the internal modem is not able to open the serial port when running test.

Furthermore, I can't change the settings of resources.

How to solve the problem, do you have any suggestions?

Can someone tell me which driver is appropriate (because I still think I need to find the right driver).

Finally, I do not have the original CD from Toshiba to get the driver... If anyone has the same model and you can send the driver by e-mail, I will be very grateful! (E-mail: [email protected]).

    All the best, David

    Hi gziro,.

  • Satellite A60 DVD Player problems

    Hello
I have a Satellite A60 (18mths old now) - when I 1st got it the DVD burner was DOA - so I sent off the coast and he had replaced.
It has worked well since then until recently when the DVD player just wouldn't recognize anything - CD or DVD

Tried everything with this unit - but at the end of the day understood the drive was gone.

Another bought a (SD-R6252) and lo-and-this is the same thing happens.

Each diagnosis that I run says the drive is OK - but there is no disk in it.
I reinstalled windows from the recovery factory - discs
    Update the BIOS
Tried to update the firmware of the drive-, but the update said that this was not necessary.

Tried with Nero, Windows, InterVideo - nothing.

As it is now a working machine that I can't afford 3 months back in time to send it off and watched it (that's how long it took the last time) and my nearest dealer of Toshiba is in place at the other end of the country.

Suggestions for things that I can try out would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello

The new drive can read CDs but can not burn anything. Am I wrong?
Or the drive cannot recognize the media that in the Windows operating system?
You said that you have reinstalled the widows. In this case, you used the drive.

Try to remove the drive from Device Manager. Restart the unit. Now check if you can use CDs and DVDs

  • Satellite A60 and energy saving issues

    Hello

I am facing a problem that drives me crazy. After I formatted my laptop and install Windows XP, I'm never able to install Toshiba Power Saver or any kind of Toshiba Utilities. Setup turns on, but after that, it displays an error message (sometimes just sound no message) and it stops.

    To be more precise:

I use a Satellite A60-302, with extra addition of 256 MB of RAM. I formatted the C: partition and installed Windows XP Professional (I tried 3 different versions: right XP, XP with integrated SP1, XP with SP2 integrated; just to be sure if the problem was caused by service packs). Then I inserted the CD provided, put in place the ATI card, etc. its pilots respecting order but when it comes to saving energy, the nightmare starts.

I removed the RAM I added and tried the whole installation by the original Setup process, but no change... My hard drives are well checked for any kind of virus, and the installation process was done with the ethernet cable connected to offshore to prevent any possible intrusion.

Funny, I remember setting up Win XP Pro on this machine before 3 months no problem at all. The only significant change since that day is the update of the BIOS from 1.60 to 1.80.

Looks like a "common modules" error but it is not "common modules", on the CD or on the internet.

Finally, I must say that I can't use my recovery CD because it's Windows XP Home Edition in Turkish, but I use Windows XP Professional English provided by my employer.

Any help? I'll be delightened if someone could help me.

    Hi sunfury,.

I imagine you're nettled. But there must be a solution to your problem.

You are right. There is no common Modules for this machine. Usually the common Modules, all Toshiba tools depend on. It is the main module.

In your case, it is very important to use a specific order of installation. Normally, you must use the order of Installation set by Toshiba. You can find it on
    http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/satellite/SA60/win-XP/install_xp_na_en.zip.

But there is also another solution. I usually install on this path:
    -OS
    -chipset + display driver
    -audio driver
    -fix for... (all)
-one other drivers (modem, LAN etc..)

When you want to install the tools of Toshiba try in this order:
    -Power Sawer
    -Init GST
    -TOSHIBA Hotkey Utility
    -TOSHIBA Hotkey Utility for display
    -Other utilities
    -TOSHIBA Console

If you want to install SP2, maybe it will be better to do it later. It is also possible that some of the tools after installation of SP2 will not function properly.
    http://support.toshiba-tro.de/Tools/updates/Windows-XP-SP2/mwxpsp2ui-XP-11.zip

If you still have problems made me know.

    Good luck!
