Nagging mystery?

Sophos Anti-virus using clean uninstall app. I uninstalled the application of my mid-2011 10.12 OS Mac Mini, because my old version was not compatible with OS 10.12.

But now, every time you start, I get error - "Sophos Anti-virus cannot be opened because of a problem" - message.

There is nothing in the users & groups/Login Items that could launch this message.  Where else can I I expect to eliminate this constant nagging message. ?

(I used the Terminal to make hidden files visible, but where to go?-plists? something else?)

Please help - what can be the cause?

Look in the LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons folders.

  • All my messages on my iPhone were mysteriously deleted after I restarted - is it possible to sync my old backup iPhone with my iMessages on my Mac?

    Hello!

This past weekend, I noticed that my Messages app acted strangely on my iPhone 6. Accordingly, I turned and turn it on again and noticed that all of my posts have disappeared. I then did a hard reset and turned on - still no messages.

I have my settings to keep my messages forever, what really saddened me to see all of my messages disappeared. In any case, I'm about to restore my backup iPhone on a new phone (6 s). Luckily, I backed up my phone the week last before my messages disappearing.

I understand that when I restore a backup, everything that happened on my phone since will not appear. However, I have also the Messages on my MacBook Air app, when kept all my messages before and after the mysterious disappearance on my phone. Once I have perform this restore, I was wondering if it is possible to synchronize in any post-restore on my laptop to my phone messages.

    Thank you!

    Hi masizh,

Congratulations on your new iPhone 6 s! I understand that you want to synchronize the restoration of post messages on your Mac Messages app to your iPhone 6 s. If these are the iMessages, your new device needs to load the entire conversation once you send or receive an iMessage from the recipient. SMS messages may not work in the same way, however, you can contact your operator for support with text messages.

To continue to have your Mac with your iPhone SMS sync, don't forget to implement continuity with your new device.

If you have an iPhone, the SMS that you send and receive on your iPhone may appear on your Mac, iPad, and iPod touch as well. You can then continue the conversation from any device is closer to you.

Set up SMS and MMS messaging

Use this feature with any Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that satisfies the requirements of continuity system. Make sure that your devices are configured as follows:

    • Each device is connected to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
    • On iPhone, go to settings > Messages > Send and receive. Make sure the Apple ID at the top of the screen is the same Apple ID you use for iMessage on other devices. Add a check to your address, phone number, so that you can be reached by both iMessage. Do the same on your iPad or iPod touch.
    • On iPhone, go to settings > Messages > transfer, text messages, then choose which devices to send and receive text messages from the iPhone. A verification code and then on each device. Enter this code on your iPhone.
    • On Mac, open Messages, and then choose message > Preferences. Click accounts, and then select your account from iMessage. Make sure the Apple ID shown here is the same Apple ID you use on other devices. Add a control to your phone number and email address.

Use the SMS and MMS messaging

To use this feature, simply start conversations as usual in the Messages application on any of your devices. Alternatively, you can start a conversation by clicking a phone number in Safari, Contacts, calendar, or other applications detecting phone numbers. All your incoming and outgoing messages on all your devices.

Please use the Apple Support communities to post your question. Enjoy your new iPhone!

  • The best of YAHOO. on Firefox extension - nag screen

The issue began a couple of weeks. When I visit the Yahoo! News (news.yahoo.com) website, I get a nag screen to install an extension called the best of YAHOO. on Firefox. I don't want to install the extension, so I have to click Cancel to continue. The nag screen continues to pop whenever I try to navigate to another point of press. I would like to know how to disable this nag screen permanently. I've attached a screenshot of the nag screen. Thank you in advance for your help!

I tried to empty the cache and delete cookies below. None of them helped. However, I have a click right on the screen of horse and selected see the source of the page. I found the entry identifier div = "yset-search-upsell-container". Further down, I selected the entry and use AdBlock more to hide. Then I went back to news.yahoo.com and clicked on several articles and the nag popup does not appear. I hope it's a permanent solution!

  • How can I make Firefox stop nagging to upgrade me to 36?

If I wanted to downgrade to Firefox 36, I would have done the first time, they asked. In fact, I made do the first time, they have asked and discovered that 36 is so loaded down with no installable bloatware and other shit useless that no one asked to make it work as an overweight, elderly, stoned, quadruple turtle amputated with heat stroke, coma, immersed in molasses and blocking damn near constantly and offers absolutely no identifiable improvement , that's why the upgrade to 35.0.1. I don't want to keep hitting "Remind Me later" for the rest of eternity because I don't want to call back me later, or at least, not until they got rid of the bloatware and replaced 36 with something that actually works. How can I disable these nagging popup dialogs?

Hi, go to Options (gear) - in the 3 menu bar unless you moved, > Advanced tab, then the tab updated and you can set your preferences there.

However, I must stress that in the interests of safety you really have to use the latest version.

    Hope that helps.

  • How can I get rid of the "improved" search and how can I stop the NAGs for updating other machines?

This "improvement" can improve your 'bottom line', but nothing for ease of use. I have other personal computers that are now get the "update" NAGs... it would be nice if they had to stop.

It's a different setting, you want browser.search.showOneOffButtons, that's a bit down the page of browser.search.hiddenOneOffs.

Sorry, I meant do a right click. Make a right click option and select "toggle".

  • iPhone storage mystery! (Lack of 42 GB of storage space!)

OK the Forums of Discussion... it is a mystery.

My father has been to complain his iPhone 64 GB 6 by saying that he did not have enough storage. I thought it would be a simple solution like the removal of unused applications, turning on iCloud photo library and the optimization of the photo, but what I discovered has totally confused me.

My father's phone shows that it used 55.2 GB in settings > general > storage & use iCloud > manage storage. Yet when I add everything in the storage management screen it is only 13.2 GB, a difference of 42 GB.

I decided to do the same exercise with my phone. It is said that I used 28.1 GB and when I add the items in stock to manage, I get 23.2 GB which is a much more reasonable difference of only 4.9 GB.

So where is the lack of 42 GB?

Any help would be great. Thank you!

When I go to settings > general > storage & use iCloud I see two options "managing storage. One is local storage 'my device' and the other is iCloud.

Do you see the two options (1), (2) your device?

  • Firefox keeps exposing a nag on outdated Flash plugin bar

Recently, Firefox keeps displaying a yellow bar horse informing me that my Flash plugin is obsolete and should be updated. I can't update my flash because I don't have no administrator rights on this PC (but in return, I am not responsible for any damage caused by respective exploits). However my portable Firefox keeps this nag bar display. Checks for all sorts of updates is disabled in the options, but that doesn't seem to cover this check for plugins update (or at less the flash plugin). What can I do?

you are welcome - please note that for version 11.3 of flash, you must copy the two .dll file & the FlashPlayerPlugin_11_3_XXX_XXX.exe (which is used for protected mode adobe) in the folder plugin, otherwise Firefox crashes on pages with flash content.

  • Tecra M9 mysteriously turned on itself without user intervention

With the Tecra M9 he mysteriously on itself without user intervention. I suspect that this may be caused later the LAN functionality however there is no Ethernet cable connected. Surely wireless chipset would not support WOL?

How can I turn off wake on LAN from the BIOS?

To be honest I didn t understand what is the problem with your BIOS but the fact is that every new notebook has free access to all BIOS options.
With other words when you put laptop IT you press F2 to enter the BIOS settings. In the Advanced BIOS options, I think you will find this option and using free space on the keyboard button you can change for people with reduced mobility. Save the settings and the work is done.

I put t understand your history with supervisor password.
Your BIOS is locked with password or what? Did you do that?

  • frequency and tone of "Please update firefox 6.0" nag seem suspicious

I do not remember nagging Firefox with such insistence that the only safe version was a major version number higher than the new facility of the default download of the previous day (5.0.1 August 15).

What was even more disconcerting was that I knew from the computer to my wife that the horse 6.0 with the same text had begun well before 6.0 became the last default download of Firefox from mozilla.com (because when I saw this message on his Mac one, too many times I checked my own machine and found that I was still running 4 point something how I went to mozilla.org and I landed) on the standard download page and issued 5.0.1).

So, what gives? One explanation could restore confidence. Thank you! We do not know how to be more paranoid.

Firefox is a new program of the "quick release" with new versions spilled more frequently, about every 6 weeks.

    • There will be little or no, minor versions (i.e., 6.1).
    • There will be no temporary releases unless urgent problems in a version, as it was with Firefox 5.0.1 to manage releases of the latest OSX (Lion)
      • -NOTE: for all os except OSX, Firefox 5.0 and 5.0.1 were the same.
    • There was also a version of security for all Firefox Firefox 4.0.1 4.0 operating systems.

The goal of a quick release can be summarized by this statement: ""the goal of the process is to provide regular improvements to users without affecting longer term work."" (meaning long term and work toward goals of Mozilla).

With each new version, the previous version is no longer supported or updated, so it is important to keep up-to-date, as any security or stability improvements will not increase back to the earlier version.

Update notifications are made once a day when a new version is available.

    Changes in Firefox 6:

Always on tap for 2011, Firefox 7 (27/09/2011), Firefox 8 (date not defined, but maybe at the beginning to mid November) and possibly Firefox 9 (possibly before the end of the year).

  • Mysterious FF 5.0.1 for Linux and Windows

    Hello.

Mozilla has released, on 11 July, FF 5.0.1 to bring increased compatibility with Mac OS X Lion. You said:

Please note: users on Windows and Linux do not need and will not see the updated offer.

Yesterday, I noticed that FF 5.0.1 for Linux and Windows are available.

However, I can't find any credible information on the Internet which is all about. "Notice of security for Firefox", "The Mozilla Foundation security advisories" and 'US-CERT current activity' pages did not mention of FF 5.0.1 for Linux and Windows at all.

Could you please shed some light on this particular and still mysterious version?

    Thanks in advance.

So that all OSs have the same version number of Firefox. Something on the update server, I think. You seem to have already Firefox installed 5.0.1. See find your version of Firefox

  • Mysterious slot machine internal on NB520 - 10 p

    Hello

I just bought a 10 p NB520 and when I opened it up to the disk and memory upgrade, I noticed that there is an additional location (uninhabited) next to the disk.

I do not recognize the type of connector although it seems to be of a format similar to that of the module WLAN is connected.

Does anyone know what's the point?

I was wondering if it could be for a WWAN (3G) module, or as a future update to the series NB520 etc., or for the later models using the same case. It also seems to be what looks like a slot for SIM card under the battery.

It doesn't seem to be any info on this Toshiba.

    Thank you, Ian.

If possible, do a photo and post it here.

In any case AFAIK some NB520/NB550/NB550D are delivered with the WWAN card. I guess it has to be this mysterious slot machine. It is located close to the HARD drive.
