OfficeJet 8500 product constant network activity

I just installed an Officejet Pro 8500 all-in-One as a cable network printer.  The network has the OJ8500 and 2 computers (Win XP), but the OJ8500 software is installed on a single computer.

Since the installation is complete, there is constant network (two seconds) traffic between the OJ8500 and the computer.  Questions.  Exactly what part of the software OJ8500 is originally the network activity?  What I have to change in order to minimize or eliminate the network activity?  Can I eliminate network activity and still continue to use the features of the OJ8500?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Our SW printer queries the printer every three seconds (or two) for admission to the status and to detect if the computer scanning function has been started (a decision of regrettable design IMHO).  Traffic is relatively low at ~ 60 bytes/s about.

You can stop the modalities of the election even if you lose some features of the printer - including the ability to start the printer scans and detection of the ink levels.  If you wish, you can try to experiment with disabling the HP Digital monitor start-up service in your Windows machine.

I can't get a Dlink DIR655 router to allow an Officejet 8500 complete installation of the software on the network. Thanks for any thougts or help,

    Albie

Thank you for the replies, I solved it and it may be worth to post it here.

Manually, I entered an IP address to match the range of the router, but could not get the software to install, with the help of a technician HP online by plugging directly into the router. Plug on the home network wired, rendering the printer not available online.

Here is some of the best. I just had a connection 2nd broadband ISP of Shaw cable, our television provider and used in this regard to implement this printer. I bought the identical DLink 655 Router I use as a DSL connection if the telephone line. (I wanted a 2nd backup internet and I also wanted to test the speed of 2 services)

Once I lost the printer when connected off the router, I took the router of Shaw in offline mode and plugged the router DSL for the home network. THE PRINTER WORKED PERFECTLY! What a great lesson for a guy who has spent many hours reading and following all possible solutions, he could find!

So for anyone out there that might help, I thought that I post and once again thank everyone for their great posts and help here, as well as responses to me.

Either way, Shaw router started blocking my outgoing email this morning. Another thing, they make for us to send our email out through another address, one of them.

I hope I helped someone along the way.

According to the security on the SMTP servers for the customer, you will have to go and try another account. I suggest to make a Gmail account and attempt to put in place the new feature.

  • OfficeJet 8500 Wireless problem

Hello - my printer all-in-one Officejet 8500 wireless worked fine until I replaced my router to a BT Home Hub 4. I have no problem with the router, but to use the wireless printer, I need to enter the key wireless, so it can connect it. Unfortunately, the upper half of the touch pad on the printer (where you select settings, etc.) does not seem to respond to touch the most so I have no way I know to enter the wireless key. The lower half of the touchpad where you select print options etc. seems to work very well.

Is there a way I can work around by using the button on the printer? That's my problem can be solved easily or do I need an engineer visit?

I use a MacBook Pro and iPad to print from then I am unable to use HP Print & Scan Doctor (although I could use that I don't know if this can help with the kind of problem I have).

    Please can someone help?

    Hey heavy-lou.

I see that you have an Officejet 8500 Wireless and have a problem with the get connected to your BT Home Hub 4 router due to a problem with the screen on the printer.  I understand that you want to use the wireless printer, but it can be a little difficult to connect via the front panel with the display problem you mention.

Temporarily, I would advise the printer connected with an Ethernet cable to get a valid IP address on the BT Home Hub 4.  Due to the display problem, it can be difficult to print a page of Network Configuration of the device.  However, the steps to do so can be found here.  However, you can access the SAP (built-in web server) the BT Home Hub 4 by typing the IP address of the network domain in a browser bar and pressing ENTER.  Once here you find the complete list of devices connected to the network and see what IP the HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless is assigned.

Once you have the IP address of the printer, you can then type the following in a browser's address bar to access the Web integrated printer server.  In this section, you will be able to select the network tab and run the Wireless Setup Wizard is located in the SAP of the printer.  It will be able to bypass the display problem.  If necessary, check the encryption for the printer settings in the EWS network section to make sure that the settings are compatible with the current encryption on your network type (WEP, WPA, etc.).  Once the complete wireless Setup Wizard it will ask that the product be disconnected Ethernet network that the printer is supported both at the same time.

I would like to know if it is able to help get your printer connected wireless to your BT Home Hub 4

  • OfficeJet 8500 has 910: Macbook Pro won't find my Officejet Pro 8500 printer

Until recently, my Officejet 8500 910 has worked very well with my Macbook Pro, desktop computer wireless Mac and iPad.  Now, it will not be printed with any of these devices. Yesterday, he worked with my iPad, but today it says that it cannot find the printer. On my Macbook and desktop computer, it is impossible to find the printer when I try to add.  You can find the scanner and fax part of my all-in-one, but not the printer. I deleted all my printers and tried to add this back.  I've stopped and restarted. I checked that my printer is connected.

I have same thing happened with a HP wireless printer in the 8600 series to work.  Sometimes he would find and connect.  Other times, it wouldn't. I appreciate all help.  Thank you!

    Hey @Jeanne33,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! I hope you enjoy your stay here.

I see that your Officejet Pro 8500 all-in-One Printer does not appear on your network. I can help you with that.

    1. As you only use Apple products means that the printer is no longer connected to your network or a parameter has been changed on your network. That being said, this is what we will do:
      Turn the printer off.
    2. While the printer is off, remove the power cord at the back of the router for a minute.
    3. When the lights came on the router, turn on the printer.
    4. Try to print.

At this point if you are not able to print, then we will do the following:

    1. On the printer, click on Configuration, network and wireless view summary.
    2. If you see a line indicating connected the printer is properly connected to the network. If this is not the case, then, from the main screen, click on Configuration, network and wireless configuration wizard to add the printer to your network. Try once done printing.

At this point, you should be able to print. If the printer still doesn't seem to add as a device for the Mac or appear on any other device and then you have a setting on the router that has changed. Your best option would be to communicate with the person who is provided with the router and ask them to do the following:

    • Open all ports.
    • Select multicast.
    • Disable MAC filtering/MAC cloning.
    • Disable the guest network
    • Make sure that the router has a band of 2.4 GHz.

Please let me know if this allows you to print or if you have any other questions. If not, have a great day!

  • OfficeJet 8500 A910: Officejet 8500 A910 think all black cartridges are empty

OfficeJet 8500 A910 keeps telling me to replace the black cartridge to continue printing.

First, I removed the cartridge (which was 3/4 full), he looked at it and put it in.  I was able to print 10 pages until it gave me the same message.  I did once again and was able to print 2 pages.  Finally, I put in a new cartridge.  The printer told me it was happy.  I printed 10 pages until the replacement cartridge message came again.  I removed the new cartridge and put it again.  Print more than 10 pages.  Now it does not PRINT because the printer think to replace the full cartridge.  I tried to close, replacement print head cleaning all ports.  cleaning the contacts of the cartridge and print head, changing the yellow cartridge.  NOTHING IS THERE FACT.

It seems that the sensor is messed up, but where is this sensor?  O for the day where I was allowed originally instead of the treatment of the HP me as I have the brain of a worm.  If I could just disable all the sensors on this printer, it works fine, but HP wants to control everything, so nothing works.

Does anyone else have this problem?  Anyone find one solution other than a new printer?

    Hi @CWickstrom,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

I see that you are unable to print because of the warning of low ink on your printer HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910. I'd be happy to help you and don't forget to come back to this thread and check "Accept as Solution", if I have successfully helped solve you the problem.

To help you better, I may need more information.

What is the exact error message that you receive?

I would like to do a hard reset to see if that will solve the problem.
Let the printer and disconnect the printer cable and the wall socket for 60 seconds.
Reconnect the power cable to the output of the printer and the wall, and not a surge protector.
This ensures that the printer is full on and can help this situation.

    • Make sure that the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (do not use a hub or a surge protector) This ensures that the printer is full on and can help this situation.

  • Scanning from OfficeJet 8500

My OfficeJet 8500 has stopped printing.  After removing the ink cartridges, I tried to use it as a scanner only.  The screen of the printer has a message that the ink cartridges are missing.  The all-in-one will not be replied to attempts to exceed this message and certainly don't scan.  Remove the ink cartridges to disable all features for the all-in-One?  Is there a way around this problem?  If this is not the case, why HP would design a product that would not allow the use of operational duties when others have been disabled?  Really strange.

You are right. The printer will NOT work without the ink cartridges. If the cartridges are very low and you want to just scan, which is perfectly fine. You need to place the cartridges in the printer so that it continue to feature.

I have on two devices.  The airport has a network running running.  I plugged the Officejet 8500 at the airport with a network cable.  When you open AirPort Utility, he does not see the printer.  When you use the printer menu, I was not able to find the right method of connection to the network.

No, you can use (and use) Ethernet.  It's just that Airport utility didn't report it because it is not plugged into the USB port, which is good.

Now that the printer is connected to your network, download and install the latest version of the software for your printer from the "Support & drivers" link at the top of this page.
