  My problem is that I was installing from a USB key using the usb 3.0 port. Windows does not see the usb 3.0 port that I was installing of for once I moved it to the usb 2.0 port it started working. I didn't need all the drivers.

• Pavilion dv7-4285dx hard drive

  The hard drive on 2 years, Pavilion dv7-4285dx of my son is dead. It's a Samsung HM641JI, 640 GB, 5400 RPM. can anyone recommend a good replacement for this notebook drive? The new drive can we (GB) smaller than the original? Should I just stick with the same Samsung drive? Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you.
  PS - I use the recovery discs just purchased from HP to restore the new drive.

  You can use standard HDD from other providers. Nowadays people need more space, go for a larger HARD drive, it's a wise move. The recovery disc may not install on a smaller HARD disk because it will put your machine back to the factory settings.

  I know, but the problem is the hard disk that came with it is FULL of viruses, and I don't want to connect two of them in the same device, or even that you use at all. I'm on an allowance now, so I can't exactly buy a new, can't use both at the same time, otherwise the laptop overheats.

  I could try using Malwarebytes on that hard drive and transfer files from the old and hopefully get Speedfan to find the fan that cools this thing.

  The hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced. Once you have replaced the HARD drive you will need to perform the HP system recovery so that Windows and hardware drivers are reinstalled correctly.

  I came across your post and want to help you solve the problem with your HP Pavilion 15-n005 not start correctly. This can be caused by a few different issues, so first of all that they have to be narrowed down.

  Please start by a hard reset. Once the laptop is back on follow the directions under "the computer crashes to the screen of the HP or Compaq logo or the Windows loading screen" of this document:

  I got this laptop from my brother in law and have no idea of what the computer password or if it even has one. My question is how do I know if it has a password and what is the password. Also how can reset you the password if you do not know the old password.

  Best way to know if it has a password must start. If it starts Windows without asking, then you are good. If it has a password, it will show a session before the Windows logon screen. If you do not know and can not guess it - simply hold the power in a few seconds at the stop button.

  A recovery of the system using F11 power on can be in order if you need remove a password.
