Pavilion dv7 keyboard problem

Product name: Pavilion dv7

Product number: QG703EA #B1A

Recently bought, that IMO has a problem which is probably a BIOS-solvable one. There is a setting in the BIOS, named "Mode of Action keys", which:

-If you select 'Off', action keys function as a normal function (F1-F12) keys without the need for "Fn" be in a hurry.

-When set to "Enabled", action keys work like the keys action and in one wishes to operate normally the function keys (F1 to F12), you have to press "Fn".

However, this setting does not apply to the "Ins" key Regardless of the parameter "Action keys Mode", "Ins" requires always 'Fn' be in a hurry, something that is not acceptable for everyday use.

IMO, it's most of the time an arrangement which will be set to 'Disabled' because when you work on a computer, most of the time we have to function keys to work as not as action keys and function keys. Keep in mind that it's a computer, not an mp3 player, so we want to quickly access the keys F1 to F12 and Ins, no controls brightness and PrintScreen.

If anyone from HP support sees this message, please pass this issue as a bug report to the appropriate support team.

Thank you

Quote from an employee of HP

"It's as expected.

in other words, it is not a bug but was intended to operate in this way.

    1 AMD Radeon HD 6700 M series

    2 Intel HD Graphics 3000

In AMD Catalyst Control Center, I chose in the maximum capacity of all the options, but after I start, for example, Total War: Rome 2 the game see only Intel card. It is the same with windows I can't change the brightness using hotkeys (FN + F2 or F3). Keyboard shortcuts work because I can switch the WiFi, increase/decrease the volume and others.

Try using another browser (Google Chrome / Firefox) for a test to see if the keyboard problem still occurs. If it is not then the issue could be a problem with Internet Explorer.  What version you have installed? (IE6/IE7 or IE8)

The same thing happens when you type in a document when you use Microsoft Word or Open Office?

I discovered my new 17.3 "laptop computer DV74177nr had his problem if no reading or no record after you install Skype, so I had to change the default values and tried all selectable devices by those who worked...  Right now, I got to work with the value "Sound" speakers "speakers and headphones (IDT high definition CODEC)" and a microphone to "built-in Microphone Arraw (IDT high definition CODEC).  It's a little difficult, so you would need to play around what device that work...  Good luck!

  • F100-NH Pavilion: Pavilion HP KEYBOARD PROBLEM

    Hello world!

I have a laptop HP Pavilion F100-NH with Win 8.1.

2 weeks before my keyboard has a problem. I started windows and I couldn't type anything. I removed the keyboard from the Device Manager, and then I restarted > it would be OK.

But today, I have the same problem. I just removed the keyboard from the device, restarted Manager and nothing happens... And now I don't see the "keyboard" devices more. Strange.

The hardware itself has a problem, because I can use it during startup. Windows has a problem. How could I solve this problem?

I tried to reinstall the chipset driver (I thought that this may be a solution), but I couldn't find the chipset driver.

    Thank you for your answer!

    Best regards:

    Csaba

    HI @loscsaba,

    Thank you for your request!

I understand that once before you have had a problem with the keyboard does not not after scoring in Windows.  You went to the Device Manager, removed the keyboard and rebooted.  The keyboard once again fully functional. Two weeks later the return issue, but repeating the previous steps did not help. After removing the keyboard when you restart, it was no longer listed in Device Manager.  When in Device Manager, if you are looking for a material change the keyboard appear?

Thinking it might be a chipset driver you went looking for an update, but have been unable to locate one.

When I searched for your laptop, I get several results.  To get the right pair, please provide your model number. How can I find my model number or product number?

Here is a link to HP Notebook PC - portable keyboard troubleshooting (Windows 10: 8).  You would also go the HP Support Assistant to help solve this problem?  You can also try running the troubleshooter in Windows Help.

  • Update of the backlit 4000 dv7 keyboard problem: incorrect keys of Action

I bought a backlit keyboard with an envy 17 and put it in my DV7 4285dx.  It fits great and all (I hit it now), but I didn't connect the diodes to one of the USB ports because the labeled connection keyboard backlight has no power to it.  I tried pressing fn + f5 f5 fn + space and all the other combinations that are supposed to enable/disable the backlight without success, but this isn't really a problem for me.

The problem I have is that all the action key (function keys) are always the same maps as they were on the original keyboard, for example f10 volume upward on the original keyboard and f8 on the new, but it is still f10 which increases the volume on the new.  So I guess my question is how can I change/remap action keys to operate according to their brands.  I know that this was possible on the old series to dv9000 quick launch buttons, so I think it should be possible.

Any help will be appreciated. (I'm not a noob so don't be afraid to be technical if necessary.)

a possible program could be Keytweak.

It allows you to remap the keys. but I don't know if it works with you FN + F keys. It remaps just your whole key. For example if you remap the F6 button instead of the button F8, F8 key becomes the F6 key.

  • dv7 keyboard problems

    Hello!

I have problems with my DV7 laptop computer (Windows 8, if it helps)

Neither the numeric keypad and function keys are working, whenever I hit the num key is that a beep, but the keys do not work.

I tried the assistant hp, install all of the updates, but the keys did not move.

Before I contact the support I thought that it might be a solution somewhere... I used the search but could not find an appropriate response, to move the topic, if the category isn't fair.

    Thank you!

    Olivia,

    Hello Germany!

    The mouse keys?

Make sure you don't have MouseKeys turned on - nice feature, but it has some weird results if you do not understand what it does, or if you have a MouseKeys turned on by mistake.

Windows key + U > facilitate the use of the keyboard >

    Uncheck the box "enable MouseKeys".

You can also select 'how' you want your mouse to behave keys by clicking "Set up mouse keys" - This opens the menu if you have checked or not mouse keys...

  • HP Pavilion 17: keyboard problem after BIOS upgrade

This isn't a terribly troubling problem, but I will mention it if HP is the reform of systems of thought from these forums.  I recently downloaded and applied the update of the BIOS HP with HP Support Assistant.  After, my keyboard does not work on the login screen Windows 10.

I connect using a PIN code but can no longer enter the PIN code using the keyboard.  The figures of the 'line' number work very well, however, and as soon as I'm connected, the keyboard works normally.

And, Yes, I have switched Num Lock

    Plug the power adapter.

Press the power button and then press the ESC key.

Now, press the F2 key to enter the interface of PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.

    Select the Firmware management

At the next screen, choose BIOS Rollback.

  • Some pavilion dv7 keyboard keys do not work. Operating system Windows 7 4 bits

I hope someone can help me before I have to call HP.

My laptop is just a little over a year. Worked very well. Suddenly, without factor precipitating known, press the caps lock light has stopped working. Not a big deal, but I do not know if the caps are locked or not. Interestingly, the same key suddenly started working after a few weeks of a malfunction. Then it stopped working again on its own. However, then the 'six' key stopped working completely. Went to the Forums and the less discovered how to appear and use the screen keyboard, but it's a pain.

Now, the keyboard has worsened and there are five keys that don't work at all.  Obviously, five keys is one of them.

I had seen the forum and read suggestiion to remove the battery and the push button for a time, did this, but nothing helps. There was another similar suggestion that doesn't work anymore.

I would like to solve the problem before the warranty runs out. Suggestions? I appreciate all the comments. TX.

This problem occurs in all programs? Honestly, this looks like a problem with the hardware keyboard. If you are still in warranty, you must take this opportunity to speak directly with HP support.

You can check the status of your warranty here.

If you are in the USA / Canada, just give them a call at 1-800-474-6836. If you are in another part of the world, you visit HP's Support around the world to find the coordinates for your region.

In the registry editor, navigate to the following

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Install

If it is present, right click on the key and select Edit

Set the field data of the value 0 (zero) , and then click Ok.

  • Pavilion dv7 keyboard locked

Recently, my keyboard and mouse finger became non-functional, without apparent reason.  As far as I know that I change all the parameters or by error, disable anything.  On the other hand, I can use a mouse remotely connected via USB.  I rebooted, battery in and out;  I checked all the keyboard settings according to the other recommendations of HP without success.  Do the key service steps, too.    I'm about to take for repair.  Any help would be appreciated.

A USB keyboard works as well?  I suspect it would work.

The keyboard of the laptop is not sensitive on the keys, is - this true?  If so, I take the F keys did not work to get into the BIOS to check the functionality.

How long it lasts?  If it's just a few weeks, a Microsoft System Restore can help.

What is the exact model of the laptop?

NOTE: Provide NOT the serial number.
