Points square on the screen

iMac (21.5 inch, mid 2011)

Intel Core i5 at 2.7 GHz

8 GB at 1333 MHz DDR3

AMD Radeon HD 6770 M 512 MB

Hello! Im having a problem for a few months. Small squares appear randomly on my desktop. It allows to be little and I realized that this was the case when I click once on a document to preview. I'm not very sure, but far as I could recognize it happen when I click once on a doc saved in Dropbox or my external drive (not a text file or a one .ai) photo. These points were fast blink until I get the cursor out as pictured 'Old', then it stops. (Note this: I couldn't get a screenshot of this, I had to take a picture with my camera!) If they stay when I drag any window above him, it recharges. But now there are more. And I can't get rid of them. Add a picture of what is happening now, it's the peak "Today."

Yesterday, I read something about kernel extensions (I don't have a single clue what are they, Im a graphic designer with almost no knowledge on the functioning of the Apple products!) and I disconnected Dropbox. I restart the computer and it works for the whole days perfectly. Yesterday we had a power cut at the studio and I restart the computer today and it was full of boxes as the pic "Today." And I can do a screen shot of it.

Now I restart the computer by pressing Cmd-Opt-P-R, and all seems fine again.

I don't know if it's a hardware or software problem. If it's a soft problem, can someone give me a dummy-step-by-step way to solve?

Thanks in advance!

"Now I restart the computer by pressing Cmd-Opt-P-R and all seems well again."

That reset NVRAM/PRAM.  http://support.Apple.com/kb/PH18761

Some display settings are stored in the NVRAM EXTRA memory

Is the problem solved after resetting the NVRAM/PRAM?

Best.

  • Points square on the screen, but it doesn't seem to be a GPU failure

Hello. When El Capitan (last) tried to wake up from its sleep it won't but I used the power button to wake him up, when he made these points there. The system froze. I hard rebooted the screen is split in two. I hard rebooted again, they were left, so I did the LANDAU and SMC restores the points place after a while came back (sometimes lines, sometimes the screen would split screen). I removed the adaptor for the second monitor. After doing all this when I started out on a disc USB external (Snow Leopard), the points appeared again a few minutes.

I did a lot of tests and everything past that. All on their default test setting: on Windows 10: Prime95, GPUtest, sky, Speedfan for the hard drive. On OS x: AHT (the one by which you press D, which has been tested 3 times), Cinebench and disc utilities. Usually when the CPU or GPU, within minutes the points and the screen becomes scrambled in minutes, but there seems to be nothing wrong with the material (late 2009 iMac, make / batch of March 2010). On Windows, Boot Camp 10, everything was fine, no square points.

This could be a software problem (corrupt kernel I read on some forums could lead the points). Now it has been hours after I did the test and resets, it's normal.

Extensive tests show that the material is good:

Thank you in advance. God bless you. Revelation 21:4

Start in Safe Mode, Mac OS x: Safe Mode bootand see if you get the same problem there. If she does not repeat is to log on to another user on Mac account and check there.

However, it looks like a GPU card failure.

    Hi Amiajediyet,

If you have an Apple Store or an Apple authorized Service Provider in your area, they can physically inspect your iPhone and give you some recommendations based on what they find.

    Take care

  • ProBook 450 G1 - pointer moves on the screen by itself

We have a user with a G1 450 ProBook, who notes that his mouse pointer will periodically move on the screen when she has no control of the pointer, requiring a reboot to fix the problem (it uses only the touchpad and does not use a mouse.) We updated the Synaptics Pointing Device driver directly on the site of HP v17.0.8.3 August 19, 2013 at v17.0.18.8 November 15, 2013. This has not solved the problem and we are looking for a solution.

Thanks for the comments.  Problem was solved by replacing the physical keyboard.

  • Why my mouse pointer scrolls off the screen to the right

Installed a wireless network adapter by using what I think was the wrong driver. Cannot remove properly. At the time my mouse and Window Media Player begins to act. The mouse pointer goes way off the screen to the right and no other borders. Window Media Player opens wider than my screen. That is what it is?

    Hello

    · What is the number and the model of the computer?

    · Have you installed the drivers on the manufacturer's Web site?

    · Do you receive an error message or error code when you try to uninstall the drivers?

Use the back to roll on the computer that will replace the network to the previous state driver and check if the problem persists: how to use Roll Back Driver Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283657

I suggest contacting the manufacturer and then install the wireless network card drivers.

    Hi Marco_3,

I guess this dot what you want to say it's a pixel dead, right?

Well, there are a lot of discussions in the forum how to manage the dead pixels and I recommend checking out some official Toshiba items I found on the page European:

  • Satellite A660 - 11 m: graphics issue - a few squares on the screen

    Hello

I have a problem with the graphics - when the screen of Windows 7 (64 Home edition) start something wrong with.
I see a few places, for screen occasionally goes black (for 1 second) and after that, there is a nvidia driver on communication.

When I disable the driver in safe mode and restart my computer laptop everything ok (but without graphics driver.). I got computer default Configuration (after that - even :().

Can you help me? or suggest in this problem now I have to do?

    Kind regards
    ravsaint

    Hello

You can try to install or update the graphics driver.
It would be useful that the issue would be linked to the defective display driver.
But it's more because of the graphics chip.
In this case the update of the driver will not help you, but only one replacement of the mother figure/card chip. :(

  • My Acer Aspire V3 - 571 G have a square on the screen where the mouse does not respond.

An area of about 7 cm high and 11 cm in the lower right corner is not responding when I try to click on something. It seems that the computer can not say that there is something to persevere. Enyone ever heard talk about something like that?

Yes. Thanks I'll try to force close.

  • The mouse pointer & open windows disappear off the screen to the right

The mouse pointer moves beyond the screen to the right and is not visible, as if the office is extended beyond the edge of the screen. Open programs or programs visible on the taskbar sometimes will, when clicked on disappear too out there and then I can't get them on the screen where I can see. If I'm lucky I can get the pointer in the right spot and can drag the back window where I can see it.

I have a 22 "h - d lcd wide screen monitor. Are there settings that I need to adjust or what?

    Thank you

You have a second monitor or a television plugged into the video card? You will need to go into your control panel of the video driver and adjust it for a single screen.

You can also try the automatic adjustment of your monitors.

  • Get a big white square in the middle of the screen on PS CC

I use PS CC on an old Mac Pro Tower of 9 months. I am getting sporadically the white squares on the screen through images about 100 MB. They disappear when I Zoom in or out, but it is becoming more and more embarrassing. I use totally RAD Plugin and Plugin DXO.

    I've included a screenshot

    Screen Shot 2015-05-30 at 18.44.58 copy.jpg

The last update installed Adobe Camera Raw 9.0 that does not use the GPU acceleration.

    Two ideas.

Go into the camera raw settings and uncheck the option below, or if you do not have a camera covered 9.0, downgrade to 8.8 ACR

Older versions are here: put under Camera Raw for the Mac Look.

  • U100: Videos simultaneously on the screen and external beamer?

    Hello booklet users,.

I don't have such a beautiful unit yet, but I think to get a. I guess I won't have too many problems with the screen and a small keyboard that I use a MDA Pro and I am very satisfied with the even smaller keyboard.

But before you buy a Libretto U100 I really want to know if the book is able to show a video, which is included in a Power-Point presentation on the screen of the booklet as well as on a projector at the same time. Because this is not the case with my real Satellite phone, where I can run Power-Point presentations on both devices, but as soon as I start a video in the presentation, that it will only appear on my screen of Satellite.

    Thanks for sharing your experience,

    Walter

    Hello

Usually on the satellite units, it should be possible to change the display devices with the FN + F5 key combination. So you can change the output to extern monitor/Beamer, TV, extended desktop display or you can clone display (laptop + monitor or laptop + TV).
I put t know if you tried but check these possibilities.

AFAIK the Libretto U100 also supports this utility and it should be possible to change the extended or video projector monitor output.

    Good bye

  • Flickering squares colored forming strips on the screen

I have an iMac 27 mid-2010 "with a videocard ATI Radeon HD 5750 El Capitan running.  I have recently begun to see small squares colored screen (pink, orange, red, green mainly) that start as low spread across the screen and little by little become denser with time.  Places at their peak form a checkerboard pattern forming bands across the screen, but generally not in the active window.  Sometimes, I have a few strips of squares flickering and some fixed.  The individual squares are really small - only a few (2-3) mm in size.  I also occasionally get a purple line or two parallel lines of purple on the top of the screen (but not in the active window).  The points seem to appear when the internal hard disk is done a lot of read/write (but I couldn't be sure that it is a part of the problem). I have attached a screenshot that shows a few random points - he gets much worse than this.  Maximize the active window frequently, but not always, makes them disappear.  If they appear in the active window (which happens rarely), the computer stops responding.  I also seem to be getting some flickering when scrolling windows or opening menus, or an area of the screen not refreshing immediately, which I've not seen before.  The computer in all other respects seems to operate normally.

The purple strips at the top of the screen do not appear in this screenshot, but points are hard to see.

First of all, the problem occurred after the upgrade to El Capitan.  I made a second installation of El Capitan in case it was caused by the upgrade nothing helps.  It is currently running 10.11.2.  The computer also had a replacement of that HARD drive internal installed a few months ago, but the points started to appear some time after that has been done.

Someone has encountered this, or know a solution?  I'm starting to think that the trip of the new year for the doctor to Mac may be needed.

    Thank you

I'm starting to think that the trip of the new year for the doctor to Mac may be needed.

Yes. Looks like it's maybe a faulty graphics card.

  • move the taskbar from the square to the line at the bottom of the screen

The taskbar was somehow moved from the bottom on the side.  When you move back down, now is a double line square in the lower corner instead of a single line.  How can I change to a bottom line?

    Hi BonnieMallmann,

Do you mean that you can see the time and day in the field of the clock? You can resize your taskbar, take your pointer over start button-> it will become double vertical arrow head, now press your left button of the mouse (so that its two heads) and move it further down the screen as you wish.

    I hope this helps.

  • Second the mouse pointer to the center of the screen of Windows 8 (office and metro) - Sony VaioT Ultrabook

After a few updates MSFT uncontrolled or without reason, the boot of Win8 poster now the gray circle or circle with the mouse pointer in the Center on the login screen of the touch screen. Try moving the pointer with touchpad shows second pointer, and the original remains flashing in the Center. By connecting to the Metro interface, the cursor of the Center remains in the Center, and it is possible to move subway tiles by dragging the screen.

When you go to the office, the pointer to the Center rest sometimes, sometimes disappears; When there, open and close the Task Manager without doing anything he removes the unwanted pointer. When removing the additional pointer in the Center, office does not respond to tap and double tap. and does not show the rectangle of the area of selection, as he usually did. However, the touch screen digitizer apparently works as the key, and touch multi-touch show shadows in the points of contact. It also allows to scroll the text in the browsers to slide the touch screen. But the zoom and the valves do not work.
I also noticed that a few seconds after that the Office will appear on the screen, the touchscreen works as he used before (look and work area selection), but they stop working after 3-4 seconds and you can only take account of the points of contact and scroll the text in browsers (no resizing)...
Device Manager displays the digitizer as 'USB input device' USB\VID_04F3 & PID_0018; It is impossible to find the name of the vendor or update the driver. The device also creates objects of device HID four children. The digitizer can be stopped and restarted from the Device Manager; upon restart, the Center pointer appears again, or a white square is displayed. Touch the place goes the arrow-shaped pointer in the gray circle of key indicator in the center of the screen. Open and close the Task Manager remove the pointer from the Center.
Sometimes, when you move a pointer 'true' with the touchpad as the arrow in the Center pointer is replaced by a helping hand or cheek two arrows.
It seems that there is an application or a service that loads with office and seizes 'touch down' messages, do not let them be served by gui. However, I don't find anything unusual in starting programs or services; Virus scan shows that the machine is clean.
I thought it might be a ClassicShell likely to interfere, but removing it does not change the behavior. Neither the removal of all the utilities of the startup list startup.
It is a software problem, suggestions, which could bring him or how to find the root cause of the problem are appreciated.
I saw a similar description of the behavior on the forums of Sony, but there was no resolution.

FIXED! My laptop had this problem from day one.  I found a thread where some people had fixed it by going into the properties of the mouse and two enabling paths (shortest path setting was OK and barely perceptible) or by changing the standard display cursor to enlarged (or black).  But this does NOT work for me.  Here's what worked completely:

I turned off the touch screen.  Who needs him--it was a stupid idea of Windows 8, in any case, and the compromise to solve this question "cursor ghost" was worth WAY.

Go to Device Manager.  Under Interface devices, there are 2 lines for input USB device.  (If there is more, temporarily disconnect the receiver wireless mouse or another USB input device).  Disable the first, one in right-clicked on it and selecting Disable.  And the problem is GONE!  I hope this helps.

Maybe the screen had a defect that makes act like an invisible finger relying on, or more likely, it's a Windows 8 bug affecting some machines.  In any case, it's a huge relief to see it fixed, because the cell phone was horrible, when this happened.  Good luck!
