product key on my system still valid?

I have a "windows 7 pro OA"code on the side of my computer, I wonder if its an additional license or if the used license when my computer was built.

It is not an additional license.

Planned use of the key of 25 characters (XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX) on the COA / sticker is if you need to reinstall Windows using the generic DVD media (should not be confused with your "Recovery" partition or a recovery of manufacturing media) is for activation on the same computer, the sticker is attached to.

  • Invalid product key, even if it is VALID (bought from dell)!

Well, I'm in a very difficult situation. I have a dell system that I purchased from Dell, so I doubt there's no infringement going on and the product key provided is not valid. What happened is I reinstalled Vista I could not install SP1 still cannot, but that is a different problem. I wonder now activate my windows as the product key is not valid. During installation I don't ask me to enter a product key that the DVD reappattage is provided by Dell and I'm sure that everyone is aware that with this product key is "incorporated" in reinstallation dvd. So, what can I do? I contacted Dell they are charging me just to look at the situation.

I can't even enter a product key 'different' (identical to one on the sticker pasted on the dell system) that I had an overheating problem and I can read only about 90% of the key I would type here for evidence but it is not safe. Dell refused to give me my product key, because they don't know what it is.

Is there a way to read the DVD reisntalltion? Oh and I'm stuck in reduced functionality mode, so I can't do much.
    Thanks nadia

Well, FINALLY, everything is square and works very well. Microsoft support charged me 30GBP and Dell 80GBP to just discuss the issue and even less promising a solution. I didn't take the risk in case there was a hardware problem that was not allowing me to install the OS just then use to cause activation tfailure. So I used my warranty of harware and Dell asked to replace my hard drive as windows reappattage gave me errors. They decided to change the motherboard instead, and later, the hard drive at the same time as the processor and the installtion of Vista drive. They were going to change the DVD drive as apparently the noise he made was unusual, but later, they found the player is supposed to make this amount of noise during playback of a disc for my system (XPS M1330 - do not recommend). Incredible to see how little knowledge about their own products.

So finally, the system is fixed, will wait another 2 months and hope activation appears once again, but at least I have SP2 running so I'll be able to leverage windows a little more in reduced functionality mode and not just be able to browse the internet.

So basically if everything fails best bet call your system manufacturer and ask them to run a diagnosis harware find any error and everything to replace! Thanks nadia

Try to breathe new life into an old laptop I had to hang out, but the key I have is apparently not valid. I'm not using the original installation CD, I borrowed one from a friend, could this be the cause of this?

  • Lost product key, still have the installation DVD

Hello, I have a bit of concern. I recently had to reinstall my copy of Windows Vista Home Premium on my computer due to a virus. Unfortunately, during the three years that I had been able to run my computer, I had misplaced my product key. However, I still have the installation disc.

Now, I tried to activate my copy of Windows through the toll-free telephone service. The automatic activation system says that it is impossible to validate the code I had read it and redirect me to the customer service. Once there, a man, Joe, told me he would give me an activation code of 25 replacement characters, but since I couldn't provide him with mine, he will have to redirect me. Once I was redirected again, I didn't particularly understand what this other man told me. To my surprise, the conversation ended abruptly, and the call ends.

The computer that needs validation has been custom-made. It has not come pre-configured with an activated copy of Windows. This DVD is all I have. Can someone suggest a good course of action?

    My sincerest thanks,

    David

If the product key was installed on the computer, we could get it back with a software, but when you re-installed you erased it is is no longer available.  I'm afraid, there is nothing really that can be done - you need the product key to activate and Microsoft is not going to give you one just because you have a disk (or even if you have the receipt).  The same thing will happen to you if you try to activate without a valid product key.

Here is Microsoft's policy on the replacement of lost or missing software (in this case, the loss of key product is essentially the same thing):http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326246.

I'm sorry, there is nothing else we can do to help you - but without the product key you have little or no options.

    Good luck!

  • Windows 7 product key valid and active but has not updated PK on computer

I managed to install Windows 7 as a dual boot on an ancient tower XP I have upgared by adding the SSD with W7 installed while XP is on the old partition C.

The product key has been entered and validated successfully and I've been able to pre-order Windows 10, which is the ultimate goal

My question is the Prouct Key on the computer is always the old XP number is this OK, or will I run into problems of 30 days?

Product keys are unique for the version and edition of Windows.

You need to rephrase the last question.

I dual-boot with another edition of Windows, update will affect other facility?

No, it will not affect the other operating system, only the version of Windows from which the upgrade is initiated will be replaced.

In 30 days, Windows 7 will make an attempt to connect to the Internet activation. Afterwards, it prompts you whenever you connect, to activate.

  • Reinstallation of Win 7 on the same computer laptop-is the product key is still necessary?

    Dear Sirs,

My computer dell laptop is running win7 Home premium.  I installed it a few years after purchasing a win 7 dvd.  I think reinstalling the same win 7 Home premium on the same laptop (no change in the hardware of the laptop), just to speed up my laptop and delete all unnecessary files accumulated over the years.  My question is, does the product key is necessary to put in during the re installation process or not. In other words, I have to re validate windows after installation. Of course, I have to do a custom or fees installed, so that all the old files have disappeared.

    Grateful for a quick response.

    Rabbi

You have not enter the product key during the installation, you can skip to enter the product key and ensure that everything is working correctly before turning back again:

How to install Windows 7 without entering your product key.

Make sure you take your key to the system if you don't have it right now:

Here are four utilities, which can display your product keys if they are still there:
    Belarc Advisor: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
(He did a good job of providing a wealth of information.)

    and: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html
and RockXP: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4138.html which has additional features

Once you have the installer, you can try to activate online or by phone:

    Activation of the Internet:

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: slui.exe 3

    Press enter

Enter the product key and click next to activate via the Internet.

Your Dell should have a "Recovery" to restore Vista partition (no product key required when you use the recovery partition), use it to reinstall Vista: http://www.ehow.com/how_2134715_dell-windows-vista-factory-settings.html

Then use your Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade, enter the Windows 7 product key that came with the upgrade when prompted.

Then activate by phone (if any, as the key of Win 7 was already used once before).

  • Install Windows 10 Pro lowered home (with no product key) after expenses.

Received my Lenovo ThinkPad 11th yesterday and after much research, I decided to do a clean install. It came with WIndows 10 Pro and I checked the settings (that I created my Windows account at the same time) and he said that it has been activated using Windows. According to the instructions of Microsoft (and various YouTube videos, I've looked), once a machine is activated, it would automatically update the product key, so no need to find.

That is the problem. I had installed 10 Windows on a USB key and the installation went well, or so I thought. I checked the settings after installing different programs that I would use as he said that I need activate Windows. Well, checking settings, he lowered me 10 Windows Home and of course the the product key in the system (if it's still there) that is the error I get is not valid.

Of course, it is not a product key on the bottom of the computer and there is nothing in the box. How can I get my product key back so that I can install Pro back?

Using ProduKey, I get two different keys. One for the new Home edition and the other for the OEM Bios. I guess that I need reintsall (new) and use the key in BIOS Yes?

So guess what? He's back for Pro and it is activated!

I think what happened is that I downloaded the single language version and that's what he screwed up. I just redownloaded windows 10 (first on the menu drop-down) and he installed Pro and activated.

Creating new media doesn't let you choose, he will choose for you based on your product key from the system.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Cannot activate Windows, the product key already in use

Original title: product key already in use.

Recently, my computer crashed (power).  Try to avoid problems with my hard drive, I bought the same computer exactly on the line.  I installed my old hard drive on the newest computer and all is well... Except, when trying to activate my Windows Vista Ultimate OS I get the error message "The key of product already in use" Microsoft site confirms that the product key is authentic, but still will not let me activate.  All solutions?

Your old computer had a "Retail" or "OEM" of Windows installed version?

OEM versions are related to the 1st motherboard they are installed and can not be activated on another motherboard. The only exception is the 'mother' is exactly the same make / model / part number as the original motherboard.

Commercial versions can be moved from one computer to another without problem except that the the phone activation may be required.
