Readers CD/DVD-RW and CD Rom missing in WIndows XP

Last night I had to make a music CD.  I discovered that Windows Media Player didn't see my CD rom drive or my DVD/CD-RW drive.  I went in my computer, find the two missing disks from there.  In Device Manager, they appear, but have a yellow triangle, which means a problem.  I tried to uninstall/reinstall, point to restore the system, several other things, but I'll have a chance to do this work.  Readers seem to work, but the computer will not recognize them.  I was told that there is a "Code 19" problem and then this last time that I have checked, he told me he was "Code 39".

Brand and model of your pc could help. If they appear in Device Manager, you must try to uninstall them, outgoing Device Manager but stay in Control Panel. Double-click Add Hardware, which leads up to 'add a new hardware wizard'. Follow the prompts. and let the Wizard do the rest.

    Hello.
Due to a recent system crash, I had to replace my HARD drive. I then installed Windows 8 and since then my wireless and Bluetooth have stopped working. • All my desktop files and library are missing in Windows 7

Need help, I have a windows 7 Ultimate OS on an old Dell XPS of 3 years. Operating system implemented at level of Windows Vista home for more than a year. Last week, when I connected, I noticed that all my desktop files were missing. Library of the missing files (including photos, videos, music & docs). Whats funny is that none of the files are missing. However, all possible files in each folder are missing. There is no way that I could have them was deleted by mistake, can not think of a keyboard shortcut to clear all the files, but leave the files. I run avast antivirus, set to day & works perfectly well. No application installs & the only windows update I see around this event was for MS silverlight.

I backed up all possible files using a recovery agent & the thought of doing a clean reinstall of the operating system. PS - My research on the net has returned no results for this problem. Looking for all entries before going to come & clean clean my system. THX in advance

    * original title - need help with Windows 7, all the missing files *.

Here are the steps I recommend:

    1. Open the computer and open your folder C:\Users.
    2. Right-click on the folder of your user name and select Properties.  Unset as hidden, and then click OK.

You will be asked what you want to apply the changes.  Choose JUST THE FOLDER.  Although it seems appropriate, are not select subfolders, because some things down there, including the appdata folders and as such, must be hidden.

    3. Then go inside your userfolder and select all your folders accessible by the typical user (downloads, Documents, photos, video, etc.) and disabled the option down on those.  This time, pouvez you use the option 'apply to all subfolders and files '.
That will get you squared away back.
  • CD-ROM/DVD-ROM missing from Device Manager, FRUSTRATED!

I jumped on my computer today, to copy a disc in iTunes and found that Windows is for some reason, do not recognize my DVD/CD drive.  Now, the drive is very good; This works.  I put in a disc and it runs.  But that's all.  I go to Device Manager to see what is the problem and I find that the knot of READERS of CD-ROM/DVD-ROM is missing altogether.  -What happened?  If anyone can help (not you, Rob;) I already tried everything in your list of suggestions), please.  I would appreciate.

    Hi Dtorres,

    • What exactly do you mean by it works when I insert the disk?

If the device is missing in the Device Manager, it may be due to hardware failure or if the drive cables are not connected properly. This can also happen if there is a damage in the drive cable, windows will not be able to detect the drive.

However, you can contact the computer manufacturer to verify if there is any firmware that you can install for the CD / DVD player and if you can run a diagnostic tool for the material.

You can also start the BIOS of your laptop and check if the drive is detected in the BIOS and post back the result.

I hope this helps. Let us know the result.

    Thank you and best regards,

    > OK, thanks for the answer... I did check the Device Manager and sees all problems reported and even tried to update the CD player, but said that it was up-to-date so I don't know what I should look for then. See, most recently, I had to reinstall a few updates for Vaio Care not installing correctly automatically and although he has cleared up the initial problems with a patch of Self Heal and a update for IntervideoDVD that would not install it gave me these warnings of DVD and CD ROM that I've never seen before in prΘcΘdentes Vaio Care One Click. It is a kind of new added to just alert courtesy warning me that I must check the following points and most of the time can be ignored, or is it a real alarm of a problem.

Unlike other caveats and bugs discovered by VAIO CARE this warning has no additional information as to what it can be difficulty and get rid of the warning indicators. See I'm a novice when it comes to records and others, but my all in one computer is only a year and a half, so if there is a problem with it I would like to know for sure, find and how to fix it. This computer is the first computer, I never bought where they send you the utility service, manuals, disks received, etc. with the unit so I have to be sure to make a change before even trying it but this one is just eluding me b/c I don't know where to look, or once found 110%, what I should see. • My recently downloaded Windows Media Player 11 play dvd, audio cd and cd rom, but will not recognize two photos of the dvd which have been able to acknowledge by Media Player 10 and record of the Explorer Windows-with some difficulty

    1. Windows Media Player 10 has opened a photo successfully dvd but a message "Microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to close" came on the screen several times.  Had to re insert the dvd picture, but it would open again each time.
    2. Tried the cd drivers and troubleshooting dvd and was informed of my dvd could not be played because there was no decoder for dvd.  Following instructions and chose a windows xp approved decoder pack download - dvd has chosen the Roxio CinePlayer DVD Decoder Pack.
    3. Then upgraded the media player to Windows Media Player 11.
    4. After that, dvd and cd rom could be opened by the media player 11, but neither the DVD or cd ROM readers would recognize the photo DVD in question had been inserted into one of these discs, and even less to be opened by the media player.
    5. Program scanner and photo used to transfer my photos printed digitally on a dvd are trademarks of Hewlett-Packard.  Contact the center of the photo, but they could not provide me with any guidance or even particular HP photo program they used to create the dvd picture.  I remember the photos were stored on the dvd in JPEG format picture and was able to open by Windows Explorer before I've updated since WMP 10-11.

"" I remember well, the pictures are stored on the dvd in JPEG format picture and was able to open by Windows Explorer before I've updated since WMP 10-11 ""

Looks like you have a data dvd, which has just the pictures on it and it will not be seen by WMP, who needs a dvd-video disc.

It should always open in windows Explorer and you should be able to see your pictues it.

  • CD-ROM/DVD-Rom missing or disappeared

    Hello Microsoft community.

I wanted to know if anyone has a solution to make my DVD/CD drive back drive work on my computer?

I am running Windows Vista on a HP Pavillion laptop on a little more than a year)

A couple of days, I noticed my CD-ROM/dvd-rom was missing from 'My Computer', which was listed as E drive and missing from my list of Device Manager.

In my registry upper/lower filter is NOT listed

However, DVD/CD Rom Drives IS listed as a default value in the registry TYPE: REG_SZ

and CD ROM IS listed as (class) in my registy-TYPE: REG_SZ.

-J' tried the restore and - last good known already

    but it did not help.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer to solve my problem

    kb2009

    Hello

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and
the correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive
as there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific keys involved as well as
    the parameters.

I miss my cd dvd drivers and have problems to find to resettle. Any help?

Go to the support web site of the company that made the PC (there they are hard inside) or the company that makes the cd/dvd drive itself if its an external drive (USB?). They provide the drivers for their hardware.

Check on your support site relevant to the brand and specific to the model of your PC (or an external drive) and any provision supported drivers or software for the readers, should be there.

CD/DVD drives use a different laser to read CD instead of DVD.  Because you can play and use DVD would indicate that there is nothing wrong with the Windows interface, drivers or the electrical connection of your disc drive.  The likely candidate here is that the Laser for the CD reading is defective.  You can check this by installing the drive in another computer.
