Received a phone call telling me that my computer was badley infected with the virus claims to work for co. support related to Windows. Is it a scam?

Call sounded like it came from a call center in India, the appellant's Indian summer
Call was pretty hard to understand, but the appellant said that he would send an email. (Nothing received yet)

In a Word, YES!

Microsoft won't tell you cold. So keep clear. If a few Anglo-Saxon words of choice or a whistle of the referees them gets the quick line in a bad mood!

If in the mood, I'll play along to ask questions such as:

"I need access to a certain segment of memory (maybe x 80000201) in order to redirect RDP to a new server while remaining in full control of the internal system process?

"The program you requested me to install wonder for your PRODUCT ID to connect to you, what is it?" (It is best, if they are stupid enough to give you, I have them call the police after and report. In fact, tell the world)

"The four digit code does not feel for me very safe. Can I change? Yes? OK, here's the new code security, fr7B7SWA7ethstU7AQe42CeCThAd33HEdeste4AT8UcReb2U.

I received 3 phone calls informing me that Windows Defender is hurting my computer and they will refund my money. He also wants me to turn on my computer... I put him up until I can get the information... is it a hoax?  Thanks for any help...

    Hello

Windows Defender is the antivirus integrated in Windows 8/8.1/10 and do NOT harm your computer.

    It protects your computer.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Here's the advice I give on this type of phone calls:

    It's a scam.

We have all the errors and warnings in our Event Viewer, which is another ploy they use to scare you

Either these so-called "Microsoft" Tech companies want to sell you a worthless software, or remote access to your computer to try to steal your credit card and bank information and also achieve an identity theft on you.

You are the only person who knows if you gave them remote access.

If you gave them remote access and you do Internet banking, contact your bank, to explain, and change passwords.

If you use your online credit card, cancel and get a new one issued to you.

And the only way that willl you know that you are free to them is to backup your data and do a clean install of your operating system.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

And Microsoft does not contact you unless YOU have made prior arrangements with them to do.

There is an article in the link I'm you provide at the end of this one

  • Phone call informs me that my computer is infected with malicious software; it's from Microsoft. Is it?

A person claiming to be from Microsoft "Windows - something or other' phones me to force me to go online to give them access." they always say they will fix the problem (whatever that is). If I don't respect, the intruder software can damage the system. They do not specify the nature of the software.

Background noises heard during the phone call, I think it's operation "boiler room" scam with the many other appellants works in the background.
Someone else has met such unsolicited phone call?

Without a doubt a scam (a quick search forums answer will show several similar positions). I hope that you did not have access to your computer.

  • Why do phone calls telling me that I have a problem with my program

Please can someone tell me how and why I get phone calls from MICRO/TECH SUPPORT, I have an error on my windows program and when I say my lap top is absent for the service that they simply hang up, IS THIS a SCAM?

    CONCERNING
    DAVID G.

Fake phone calls to technical support

Such unsolicited telephone calls are almost always a common scam. Do not let them give any info, do not give access to your PC, not give them all the money and do not go to all the websites that they suggest. One moment.

    Please see:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security/online-privacy/msname.aspx .

Microsoft does ever not requested for telephone calls of support or security.

(such persons may use names other than Microsoft as well)

  • Phone call telling me that they come from Windows and it is on my computer - make these calls?

I see others have similar appeals - so, what is the answer to these other positions?

Hello - what someone has an answer yet?

First of all, note that when you ask "do * you * make these calls?" you apparently think you are addressing here Microsoft.

You are not. It is a forum for peer support. We just are all users of this version of Windows here, help each other if and when we can. We are not Microsoft employees (not even those of us with 'Microsoft MVP"behind our names; it is an honorary title for having provided useful advice) with the exception of an occasional Microsoft contractor or an employee.

    Second, the call was

a scam and with all the names and phone numbers, one that has become very common these days. See http://www.troyhunt.com/2012/08/virus-scams-social-engineering-victims.html
    and http://www.howtogeek.com/180514/the-%e2%80%9ctech-support%e2%80%9d-scammers-called-htg-so-we-had-fun-with-them/

In addition to their money get on your part for the inaction of any value, if you let them into your computer, who knows what they were doing here or what confidential information, they stole.

So if you have done so, I highly recommend that you do both of the following immediately:

1 do a clean reinstall of Windows.

    2. * after * reinstallation of Windows, change all your passwords, especially all of banks or other financial sites.
Since they * could * have installed a recorder of strikes, simply changing your passwords without first reinstalling Windows may not be good enough.
  • Alleged windows phone representative called to say that my computer was doing a lot of mistakes

original title: representative of Windows Phone?

I have an old Dell laptop with Windows XP. A person named [(510)943-3040] a Mark called and said my computer was a lot of mistakes and has been infected. If I turn on my computer, it would be happy to turn it off for me.  I get a lot of error messages - send error report, for example, but I don't think you would contact me in this way. Am I wrong? What should I do if he was right? John Clark

It is a phishing attempt! Do not give any information.

Reported people on these calls for a person who represents Windows (note: not Microsoft).

It is a scam! Not to follow their instructions or advice and not to provide ANY information to them.

Because they use the internet lines and/or phone to complete their fraud, there may be federal agencies in your country who are interested in discovering their calls. Their report directly to the appropriate agency if you feel you can contribute to their arrest and the charges.

Microsoft do NOT pick up the phone and start dialing customers and never phones/e-mails asking for personal information or asking them to visit a web site!

On another note, if you encounter any problems with your computer, please do not hesitate to post a desription of situation and the error messages you received in those forums. We would be happy to help you. (information staff unnecessary or requested !)

  • Received a call from phone scam someone saying my computer is infected with the virus and malware

original title: support for pc rj

I recently received a call from someone called Mark of pc rj support and they said that my computer is infected with viruses and malware. Immediately, I hang up and called my computer technician who went to my place and said: my computer is absolutely perfect... This chap Mark said he also is an employee of Microsoft, which I highly doubt. He asked me to download something that my antivirus detected as virus...

I would like to ask microsoft to focus on this

Its fake. Ignore it. There are a lot of posts here, saying: it's a scam. And this has nothing to do with Microsoft. And MS (and everyone else) are aware of this

I received a call today a stone that identified himself as Windows Support calls.  He informed me that my Windows program was in danger of crashing, and if I went on my computer immediately he could walk me through the steps to correct this situation.  I refused, and he said he'll call again tomorrow.  I also Norton Antivirus installed on my computer, and according to the latest analysis today, there is no serious problems.  So, my question would be support personnel Tech Windows do actually contact customers or should I consider this a scam?

This a complete scam and one that has become very common these days. . Don't think anything such a caller said, do nothing that he tells you to do and hang up on him immediately.

At let them into your computer? If you did you are at serious risk for what they could have done it (installed spyware? Steal the passwords?), and I highly recommend that you do the two following:

    1 reinstall Windows properly

    2. change all your passwords, especially those of the financial institutions and online stores.

  • Your company has never called a home residence to say that a computer has been infected with malicious malware?

I just got a phone call from a person stating they are from Microsoft saying that my computer is infected. They asked me to run something and then they gave me a webiste to type. I was very tired and I asked for a phone number and she gave me 1-416-915-3536 or 1-800-500-44600 and ask Christine.

    Is - is this legitimate?

    Please notify.  Thank you... Bernadette

It is a scam.  Whatever you do, don't let them get close to your computer.  MS does not have that kind of appeal.

    Good luck.
