  I'm trying to troubleshoot my Satellite 1800:
  With good DC voltage applied to the motherboard (I measured 15V dc on board) DC IN indicator is off. The smells of fan cooling a bit burnt (doesn´t work) and so I would like to know if it is possible that the indicator light is turned off in the case of a damaged cooling fan? Is it possible that the laptop would still not start if the cooling fan is damaged?

  I failed electricity 1A in College and need help.

  I recently got the BB VM 605 speaker.  The kit only comes with a car charger and I want to use a charger AC BB.  Is this possible without frying the VM 605?

  I have a BB (PSM04A-050RIMC) charger with micro USB tip.  Charger is designed for the BB tour.

  Entry of the VM 605 is evaluated in DC 5.0V, = or less than 500mA.  Out of the AC charger BB is valued at 5 v, = or less than 700mA.  I was told 500mA vs 700 my is not a problem because the speaker will only draw 500mA to a unit which can provide 700mA.  Is this correct?

  Can I use the BB AC charger to charge the speaker?

  I have a Satellite 1800 and so far used two batterys. I hope to use a car battery, because I want to use in the car (smalle homebuild AccueilTarifs). According to the manual, the Satellite takes 75W, 15V, 5amps.
  Does this mean that I can't use it with a 50Wat car battery? The battery is an external battery and I think it gives to 15V, but I have an adapter that will ensure that.

  Could I may burn my Satellite?

• Unable to connect to the Internet with my Satellite 1800 712

  had to reinstall Windows XP Home on my Satellite 1800-712, unfortunately do not have the recovery disc otherwise it would all be ok.

  Now, I can't get on internet, I downloaded new drivers for LAN, they installed ok, LAN is set to autodetect, USB wireless dongle drivers installed everything is ok.

  In my tray icon (bottom right) shows the networks but with red cross... I get a message saying that wireless networks are within range, click here to see the networks... when I click, Sun protection comes up saying no. networks in range... aarrrgggh.
  What can I do, please?

  First you need to check if the wireless network adapter appears in Device Manager (expand network controllers).
  If the local network adapter is listed and there is no yellow exclamation point, this means that the wireless network adapter has been installed correctly.
  Now you have to activate the Wlan switch (somewhere on the side of the laptop) and the FN + F8 key combination.

  Now Wlan is enabled and you should be able to set it up.
  You can use a 3rd Wlan tool part for configuration or specific parameters of Win XP.

• Problem with a hard disk on the Satellite 1800 750

  Hi all!

  I have problems with my Satellite 1800 750 therefore than the hard drive not to be recognized. Means I can start from floppy disk or CD-ROM, but not hard drive. I create in the hard drive to another laptop and it works well. In the BIOS, I see two (HD and CDROM) IDE devices. From pure DOS diskette and try running fdisk also does not show me the HD.
  What can be? It is a total mistake on card mother IDE #1 have a defect or is it a BIOS problem? Or something else?

  He cannn be your IDE controller has a loose contact.

  But in a first time, you must set the BIOS to the factory settings. Press ESC key after power! Then you have a short list of commands at the bottom of the screen!

  Hello, I installed puppy 431 and 412 (frugal HD) on a Toshiba Satellite 1800-514 with processor celeron 1 ghz, 256 MB of ram and 15 GB HD.
  When I try to restart it just hangs in a black screen, but does not restart. If I want to stop, no problem.
  Windows XP restarts correctly.

  If Windows XP starts correctly, the problem is related to your Linux distribution. What does s and there is no hardware malfunction.

  As you know I hope, Toshiba doesn't supports Linux distributions. This means that you have to look for a solution yourself, and here the most users use Windows. So I think you should ask the Linux professionals.

  Satellite 1800-921 simply uses modules SODIMM 144 pin PC100 and you should check out some offers from online dealers.

  Oh the laptop supports max 512 MB and that's why you can use modules of 2 x 256 MB max.

  I am trying to install windows on my Satellite 1800-514. but when Setup tries to copy files to the hard drive I have some errors on some files are not copied correctly (it says it can't find them, I checked well and they are on the cd).

  is not always, but often the same files. jump results in an unnecessary installation (cannot start). It is the first time ever I am trying to format and reinstall windows on this laptop. I tried gentoo (linux) for a few days and it seems to work very well (except it's me mistakes sometimes when starting from cd)

  so far I have tried:
  -Another cd (all seem to give me the same problem, they worked on all the others I've used them on front of the pc...)
  -windows XP pro cd, gave me an error of not being able to load a file (looks like the installation of 2000?)
  -have you memtest86 to check memory, he finds no errors, also I tried to install with just 1 of my 2-bands memory, that has not helped either. so I don't think that memory is the problem.
  -do you have a chkdsk /R from the recovery console to check the hard disk for errors, no have been found...

  I'm naïve, what to do/try then?

  Reset you HARD drive after using the Linux operating system? If please do it properly and then try to install Windows using the recovery CD.

  If the error again please contact the Service partner. In my opinion there must be a missing file.

  According to specification of laptop it can handle with 512 MB RAM max, if you already have maximum RAM.

  Satellite 1800 is old enough for laptop... I searched a bit using Google and it seems to PC100 SDRAM SODIMM for her, but you can also choose PC133 modules, they will also work with low speed PC100.
