RS232 to NI 9205 DAQ

Hello

I use a Pyrometer with RS232 output for temperature measurement and want to connect it to one already purchased NI 9205 with spring-loaded terminals so that I can enter all my data on the same data acquisition system.  Can I connect a RS232 to that DAQ module?  And if so, how?  Or RS232 output can be connected to LabView via serial port or USB adapt?

Thank you!

No, you cannot connect the 9205 to RS - 232. A LabVIEW program can read the 9205 with as RS - 232, however.

  • Serial RS232 directly to a USB DAQ?

    Hello

I have a question about serial communication: is it possible to directly connect a device through RS232 serial to digital pins of an acquisition of data USB-6211? (Or perhaps even a USB-6008?)

If so, where should I wire the pins to?

If this isn't the case, could you recommend me a not too expensive, but functional RS232 to USB adapter that could work well? (I plan to interface a capnometer Datex or an infusion of Fresenius pilot C pump first, but if I could find a relatively cheap multi-port adapter I'd both. BTW, can I include more NI-VISA requests in parallel in LabVIEW?)

    Thank you

No, you cannot use a DAQ hardware to simulate a serial port.

I do not have a specific recommendation for a seller, but I've had much better luck with adapters built with a chip from ftdi than others. Google "usb to serial adapter".

You can have multiple threads of communication with several cards.

  • 9205 digital entry into Compact DAQ sistem

I have a Council NI 9205 and I want to use the digital input to acquire a digital fashion Laser diffuse sensor signal, to measure the speed of rotation of an electric motor. The problem is that I have not access to PFI0 in terminal mode of spring. NOR Max I can only receive analog signals. Thank you!

    Hi Padeanu.L,

You are right that it is not possible to use PFI 9205 MAX line using the DAQ Assistant.  However, it is possible in any programming environment that you prefer (LabVIEW, C, etc.).  The PFI line cannot be used as a digital task, but it can be used with counters (edges of County, period, frequency, etc.).  For example, in the Counter - County Edges.vi example, you can set the input terminal/9205DeviceName/PFI0 and the meter/ChassisName/_ctrN, where N is the counter that you want to use.  The underscore character counter is because the 9205 has only one PFI line that does not support all modes of counting cDAQ, which is also why he does not for you in MAX.

  • Using DAQ Assistant to read voltage of 9205

I am new Nock in it and I tried to read the voltage level of 9205 relating to 9172. I use it in XP mode virtual because windows 7 does not have labview 8,9. I installed the drivers for data acquisition.

When I check the meter in automation and Explorer, it works very well which means it reads im DC voltage supply. When I created a VI facilitate data acquisition, I chose the right channel, the entry as analog voltage, the numeirc indicator shows it is-10 to 10. I noticed he did the same thing, even once the USB is disconnected, which means that the function helps daq was not save the data of the 9205.

    Can someone help me?

    Hi aaclabview,

The way in which you have added the device to MAX makes the device act as a simulated instrument. Simulated instruments only generate sine wave data to test a piece of code without using any material. A simulated device has the icon yellow as shown in the screenshot you provided and are completely dissociated from any material, so add or remove the usb device has no effect.

The problem with the help of Windows XP mode as mentioned in the above KB is the USB transfer must be enabled for the measurement and Automation Explorer inside the Virtual Machine detect the device. Using the unit in this way is not supported or recommended by National Instruments and can lead to instability and the latency of the errors in the acquisition of data even if a connection is established.

It is a more sure bet to try and install LabVIEW and hardware drivers DAQ as described above on the real Windows 7 machine to try and run inside the XP mode.

  • NEITHER 9205 digital output configuration with DAQ Assist

    Hello

I have two NI 9205 Analog Input Modules which I have configured to read from each of their 32 channels.  I used the DAQ Assistant help generate the vi which contains the task out - DAQmx event and also the DAQmx Read vi.

I used the Wizard twice, once for each module 9205 and then put the playback functions in a sequence structure so that only read would be carried out at the same time.  It all works very well!

Now, I want to add in the code to wait in a loop before all loop containing playback functions, so that the user can press the GUI to send a logic 1 to the unit under test, and after it is sent immediately starts collecting data.

The DAQ Assistant Help does not recognize the module 9205 when I try to set up a task to write a digital output.  9205 a 1 digital output so why is the wizard does not recognize this?  I also tried to create a task manually, but I got stuck.

Someone please help.  I can reach the source if needed, but I thought that the descriptions above were sufficient.

    Thank you

    Gary

    Hello

You are right it shows a line in this user manual, and in fact, you have found an instance where an important piece of information was left out of the documentation. This digital output line is actually only available when you use a cRIO chassis. It will not work with the chassis for the acquisition of data compact 9172. Here is a knowledge base that explains it. I'll also go ahead and file a request for corrective measures so that this note be included in the next version of this manual. Thanks for the comments.

  • Can't see my on my NI DAQ 6501 RS232 ports.

    Hi all

I've got a NI DAQ 6501 works well... However, now I would like to use the capacity of serial port on 6501 DAQ. I checked the Max software installation, and I have no Visa & NOR-Serial installed. When I look at the PSC-2120 Max, I see the LED, some selection of starters, DIP, but not one of the ports.is of work series.

Can you please suggest in this regard.

    Thank you

    Sandhya

I think you can be a bit confused about the features of 6501.  It's a digital I/O device that connects via USB.  I don't think that it has nothing to do with RS-232.

  • Incompatibility of RS232 & Personal DAQ Start Time

I'm looking to collect data from two separate serial ports and a personal data acquisition (analog input) at the same time.  everything seems to work fine until I try to display information on a list.  I get an error indicating that the start times are incompatible.  I'm not sure how to match the time of departure for these three modules.  serial ports seem to start at the same time, but the acquisition of data trolling in about a second or two.  running with Dasylab 11

The pilot of x 5 PersonalDAQ play well with others.

Define full Adapt for linear Interpolation and the serial number for "a row of data" (or whatever the second choice is called in your version).

The first entry of the Adapt is the channel FASTER, that should be the PersonalDAQ, unless you have collection at a very slow sample rate.

  • Thanks to the Module voltage DAQ-9178 and 9205, how to build a voltmeter of channel 16 with a range of 0 - 50Vdc?

I have already built a 8-channel 10:1 voltage divider using 1% resistors.  My problem is there is a lot of AC noise on the signal of the DC and tensions do not match my Fluke DVM who is seated nearby.

A little more info... Only channels 1 and 2 have signal going to them.  CH1, (a0), is connected to a battery of 9 volts and ch2, (a1), is a set of power-related variable bench for 17Vcc.

The digital Voltmeter is rock steady, however, the LabVIEW indicators show which I suppose is a product of AC noise.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thank you very much

  • Question about USB DAQ 6363

    Hi all,

I'm new with LabView, currently, we plan to purchase NI DAQ USB 6363 to use the entry to read the value of the resistor, capacitor and a diode and use digital i/o to check the functionality of the analog shift register. I want to check if it is possible that NI DAQ USB 6363 to acquire communication RS232 function because I want to drive barcode interface on it. I'll use LabView to log the reading result of database (SQL, Access) to do some data analyzation. IM also confused on test bench OR what is the relationship between she and NI LabView? is this another software to install except for LabView?

    Thank you

No, you do not connect an RS-232 device to the DAQ card. The RS-232 is connected to the pc. If your pc lacks a built-in port you can use a USB-> RS232 converter.

  • Many signals with ditch (NI 9229 and NI 9205) devices multi 9188 cDAQ chassis

I use a chassis equipped with 9188 OR cDAQ with 6 x NI 9229 (6 x 4 HAVE simultaneous chnls sampled with aliasing filter) and a NI 9205 (32/16 HAVE chnls single/premium multiplexecd chnls). I created a simple mind task the DAQ Assistant to acquire 12 chnls with the module NOR 9229 modues and 4 with the NI 9205 module. A generator is used to produce a sine wave with a frequency of 10 Hz and an amplitude of 500 mVpp as input to all channels. The same generator also produce a square wave (synchron to sine) which is used as input trigger (PFI 0 - BNC connector on the chassis). The acquisition is expected to have samples end up a flow of 2 kHz and a datalength of 4000 samples (this means a time of acquisition of 2 seconds) controlled by a digital reference triggered with the cADQn/PFI0 as a source of relaxation.

My problem is the time difference between signals acquired with the NI 9229 module and those acquired with the module NI 9205 (see the attachment). The time difference is not constant and change when the frequency of the input signal varies. I guess the difference is due to aliasing filters used in the NI 9229 module and I'm looking for how to resolve the situation. Any help will be appreciated...

    Philippe

By the research and reading, OR knowledge base I solve the problem by making a dummy read on the NI 9229 channels before reading from the device OR 9205.

According to the specifications of the NI 9229 module, there is a delay of filter (digital filter) of more or less 40 samples that are present only in the case of a digital triggering.

Reason and solution of this problem are explained here: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/F989B25FF6CA55C386256CD20056E27D.

I have applied the solution presented in this paper and this is excellent work.

    Now, this problem is solved.

  • Multiple Instances of the Application to access the same DAQ hardware

I have a relatively simple application that reads from a device of data acquisition (OR-9205 connected to NI WLS-9163) wireless.  I would like to run multiple instances of the executable, but I get the error-201105 (resource reserved) as soon as the DAQmx task starts on the second instance.  Each instance tries to acquire different channels of the same DAQ hardware.  Is this a problem with the data acquisition device, or DAQmx in general?  Thank you.

    -Joe

    Hey Joe,

Unfortunately, you can only one type of access channel with each program.  For example, you might HAVE a program access and another use AO, but you can't have two programs different AI the same access card.  It is common among all of the DAQ hardware to NEITHER.

  • noise of 9205

Hello everyone, I'm having a problem of balancing slot chassis and signals acquisition facility space.  Systems cRIO I built in the past used maps 9219 universal to acquire my signals analog 4-20mA.  However, I found that to 4 channels per card cost per channel is stiff and frankly I'm running out of space in our applications.  I decided to experiment with the help of the 9205 in our chassis compact daq and have found that if I sample at 1 kHz, then take an average I get not too bad at reading.  My system is not high speed.  I update my screen at a frequency of 10 Hz and record data as slow as 5 min.  I tried to take a middle run of 100 samples on 24 channels, but I think it's eating all my memory.

In short I'm looking for stable values that I am getting with the 9219 but using the 9205.  For my son, I'm running both the chassis and the sensors on the same diet, and the signals are then put through a shunt resistance (resistance of 250 ohms accuracy).  4-20mA cables are protected, and the cables 1 - 5V to the card are only a foot or two of time so there should not be enough length to pick up a lot of noise signal.  The measurement mode is NSRE, as all my reasons are common, so it does not appear that there should be no difference between taking a differential concentration or the NSRE.

I look forward to any input that could be provided.

    Thank you.

I'm a fan of sampling rates, filtering, then downsampling and only output of the values at a low rate.  For your request, I would consider sampling at 1 kHz, using a low-pass filter at 1 Hz, and then save the data at 10 Hz.  You get a nice and smooth signal even when there is a lot of high frequency noise.  Usually it's on the FPGA.  (Oops, just noticed that you use cDAQ.  Always easy to do with the PC.)

I also would investigate the material aspect of things.  I always get confused about entry to use mode, so I often try several and figure on which one works better.  Maybe combine the signals as a bonus to see if it works better.  If so, something is configured wrong for only configuration is complete.

  • Sync module NI 9205 with NOR-9234

    Hello

I have a cDAQ-9178 chassis with 4 x accelerometers IEPE PCB 16 absorbent of NOR-9234 (DSA). I have a NOR-9205 I intend to use to acquire the power of 4 problems. The NI - 9234 s are synchronized through their extensions in a single task. I would add the NOR-9205 to the chassis and synchronize it with the NOR - 9234 s. I have the following questions:

    1. Calendar synchronization

How to properly START and the NOR-9205 CLOCK synchronization with the NOR - 9234 s? PXI I export the master St DSA. WHICH device (OR-9234 or NOR-9205) should export WHICH signals to WHOM?

    2. even or parallel task

Since I produce a TDMS file in its task of NOR - 9234, it would be nice if I could simply to ADD the OR-9205 to this task to develop this unique TDMS with extra 4 channels of the NOR-9205 file. Is this possible?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi golubovski,

    > Are you saying my task of canal expansion can fire them OR - s and NEITHER-9205 9234 with its 32 channels of multuplexed HAVE? How to recognize which modules can be combined in this way convinient?

Yes. With the cDAQ-9178, any set of AI modules can be included in the same task and in most cases that apply to the AO and DIO as well, but you cannot mix a, AO and DIO in the same spot. The NOR cDAQ-917 x manual goes into more details on what combinations of modules, the types of channels and the tasks are possible.

    > I am aware since I worked so far with the PXI - 4472 DSAS. How well can correlate between the NI 9234 - and the NI9205?

Well, I wanted to make sure that you did not know that it is something that you'll probably need to take into account. On the top of my head, I don't know the answer to this question.

    > As far as I know, in which case I use dummy DAQ with the NOR - 9234 to offset 40 clock cycles I guess I'll need to separate the tasks - how to integrate viewers into a single stream of TDMS?

If you use two separate tasks and you are using the built-in support of DAQmx for TDMS logging, then you will get flow TDMS separated for each task. Note that a dummy read will still record to the PDM file, then maybe it will not work in your case.

If you use the TDMS API to write to the PDM file, you can do the preliminary processing of data before it is written in a single stream, but there is some trade-off between ease of use and efficiency: either you write data point floating in the file (easier but less effective), or you have to deal with scaling (most effective raw data (, but harder to do).

Another approach is to put all the modules in the same task and compensate for the delay of the filter after reading the data from the PDM file.

    > Also, for fixed 3.2 µs I have to calculate how many cycles given the actual sampling frequency or is there another method?

If you filter delay compensation by removing a whole number of data samples, then Yes. However, there are other methods of data processing that can compensate for a number that is not part of the sample clock periods. I don't have a recommendation, but maybe someone else does?

  • Logging and analog data RS232

    Hi guys,.

I try to save my RS232 instrument data and also include a couple of analog inputs.

The vi works 'ok', but not exceptional.  First, the frequency on the daq assistant must be placed very high to see a resonable on the screen refresh rate.   Second, the synchronization time is disabled on the data being saved rs232 (node of unbundling) and the analog inputs.

I like the wizard daq and writing table vi only because they are simple to implement.  Not too familiar with other methods.

Any thoughts on how to make these 2 numbers (and a few others) better?

Formatting of the front face is still be tweaked. See attachment.

It's an instrument driver updated the vi and vi instrument driver library.  I hope this works for you guys.  Thanks for the help.

In the Point.vi of the value, there is a Subvi, called ReadSerialBuffer.  He reads port 1 byte at a time until he receives nothing or the carriage return character.  Then the loop ends and clears the buffer.

First of all, it shouldn't be necessary to clean the pads because you read essentially until the buffer must be empty.  It may take some time for VISA really clear stamps.  Since it is something that Hyperterminal certainly doesn't, it could be an explanation for the moment apparently longer.

It seems that you have the stop character in your INIT vi, but it is set to a default character of line jump.  Reading your ReadSerialBuffer vi is until you get a carriage return character.  It would be wiser to set your stop for the carriage return character, and then read quite a number of bytes.  It will be automatically terminated on the carriage return.  It would be much more effective, and then read one byte at the time and no loop would be necessary.
