RV042 and QuickVPN?

I just bought a RV042 and am in the middle of the installation of a client. They have a small office with a couple of servers but they need about 10 remote engineers access to the servers. I was able to configure and get PPTP to work, but I understand that it supports up to 5 PPTP sessions. I then tried to configure the QuickVPN Client/VPN access. By the newspapers, it seems that he connects, but fail the test "ping on the remote VPN server. Here is the log of the VPN client.

What I am doing wrong. I have done some research on the web and consider it to be a common problem, but have not seen a resolution. Some believe that port 500 is blocked, but I am currently connected directly to the port of my PC WAN1. PPTP works with this configuration, but not QuickVPN.

Thank you

Do you have "Block WAN Request" in the firewall of the router settings turned off? Otherwise, please disable this option

and give QPVN to try again.

Thank you

Summary: If the user account on the RV042 VPN, contains special characters (other than letters or numbers) you may not be able to connect to the RV042.  The marker for this behavior will be when your password is displayed in plain text in C:\Program Files\Linksys\Linksys VPN Client\wget_error.  It seems that the password field is poorly analyzed when the command line for 'wget' is created by QuickVPN.  Three special characters I've initially included in my password of the VPN user account have been, #-the pound symbol! -Exclamation point /-oblique.  Simply remove the special characters from the password VPN user account enabled me to connect.

I hope this information is useful to someone reading the forums.  QuickVPN has so many points of failure, I am tempted to declare "not reliable."  8 ^)

  • RV042 and exchange 2010

I bought a RV042 to take advantage of the second internet connection, that we put in place.  Port forwarding for the exchange server is currently managed by our main DSL modem/router.  After spending some time by configuring the new RV042, I tried to implement yesterday.  I changed the setting of the DSL modem/router to bridge and changed the IP address so that it does not enter into conflict with the new router.  I unplugged and plugged the cables and I went back to my workstation.  I opened a browser and the internet was not working.  I pulled out my phone and sent an email of phone to my computer and it worked.  Then I tried to send an email from the workstation to the phone.  He came back not available immediately, and then I lost the connection to exchange server.  He began asked for the password to connect and acted as if I was outside the tent to connect through all the pseudonyms known to our mail server.  I even restarted the server of mail without success.  I ended up having to remove the RV042 and reset the modem/router DSL to the old settings back to work.  Anyone can shed light on what I might have missed in RV042 settings?

Some people are using the protocol binding to bind SSL (port 443) to one of the WAN of RV042 port can work around the problem of authentication with Exchange failure.

I also tried the VPN Client built into Windows without success, the connection failed with the error number 800.

Looking for any assistance with this.  I'm sure its with Windows 7, as the XP boxes have no connection problems.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Fast VPN is not yet supported for windows 7.  The 1.4.X.X release will support this and will be published shortly.  Sorry, I don't have a date for this.

  • RV042 and WAG54G2

    Hello

I have a dual WAN RV042 router and an ADSL modem WAG54G2. I would like to connect the two, but I am facing difficulties in obtaining this configuration works correctly.

Basically, I connected the ADSL modem for the RV042 through the WAN interface and setup of the interface WAN on the RV042 using a static modem IP address, as if it were a normal PC connected to the modem. With this configuration, PC connected through the LAN RV042 isn't able to get internet connection, even if the modem is connected (I tried to plug a laptop computer directly into the modem and it works great).

I also tried to configure the WAN interface to get an IP address dynamically (and started the DHCP of the modem), but also, it does not work.

My question is, are there special measures for installation that I have to do on the WAG54G2 or the RV042 to get this installation work.

Thank you and thank you for your help.

In this case, I would say that you have configured the RV042 router mode instead of the gateway mode.

Hi, we just got router ISR4331. We will use this router to our datacenter as pummel hub. Not to mention that it will be the static IP address. Our goal is to connect 30 small offices to the Datacenter by VPN site-to-site. All of our offices a RV042 router and DSL connection, so dynamic public IP. How to accomplish this task. • RV042 and VPN IPSEC (Witopia)

    Hi guys,.

I recently bought the RV042 using WITOPIA - a VPN provider.  I'm a little lost with the config.  On the side of VPN, I have a server name, login and password as well as a pre-shared IPSEC connectivity.  If I run the client on my PC, it works fine but if I try to configure it on the router it does not connect.  I don't see anywhere to store a password in the interface.  I can configure the preshared key, the server name and the username very well but there is nowhere a password.

Any advice from people more experienced than me would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

RV042 does not support xAuth for IPsec VPN, so you have to disable the option of password on Witopia and use only the pre-shared for IPsec authentication.

  • RV042 and smtp

I use a bag of mail service and I need port of port traffic before 25 in my server and restrict who I let in a couple of lines.  When I install by sending just let everyone through, when I disable redirection and set rules in the firewall, then I get nothing.  It can't be that big of a deal I know not, I do not take the right approach, then someone please help me w / who?

You would need a rule and two access rules to set up port forwarding.

The first rule of access to the GUI is to refuse everything, and the 2nd access rule is to allow the IP range you want to that they have access to the mail server.

  • Wireless and VPN RV042 router WRT54G

Respected member, please help if you can! I have an ADSL with dynamic connected with the wrt54g router, I recently bought RV042 and want to connect the wire coming from wireless with ports. so, basically, I want to use RV042VPN for help after the router, is there a way I can use vpn behind with port using RV042 router wireless

I can't be able to connect to the vpn as he seeks is not an ip or WAN/LAN.

It may be possible if you're lucky. But I highly recommend not to connect the RV042 after the WRT. A VPN server must always have a public IP address. Running a VPN server behind a router NAT (such as WRT) makes it extremely difficult and often it won't work at all. Connect the RV042 directly to your modem, configure it to your internet connection. In this way the RV042 has the public IP and VPN should become much easier. Then implement the WRT as simple access point in your network by changing the address LAN IP of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2, disable the DHCP server, and connect a LAN port of the WRT on a LAN on the RV042 port.

  • Linkysys RV042 QuickVPN to router problems

    Hello

Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated because I was stuck on this for a few days now, it's my first time posting to a forum... I have setup VPN connections before, but only through packages such as openswan and openvpn not through this device.

My VPN router is connected directly to a DSL modem, directly behind the RV042 I placed my test on port machine 1 time Wan1 & port 1 show as Gree (active).

    Modem...
    DHCP enabled

    local IP address: 10.1.1.1

    The VPN has...

    Wan1: 10.1.1.2

    LAN1: 10.222.43.1

    Test machine...

    IP address: 10.222.43.100

I got two Linksys RV042 Setup devices such as end point / VPN connections between one local area network to another.

However before doing that I tested the installation of a test machine (for laptop Windows 7 Professional & also tried XP Professional with exactly the same results) for the VPN router device. I have configured the router with the basic configuration, as described in the guide step by step / pdf and user test configuration & a tunnel I left every thing as default and only changed what is necessary.

I generated a certificate for the server and distributed a client certificate on my customer's computer and installed in the "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Linksys\Linksys VPN Client\" directory (if I understand correctly I can simply upload to this place and its installed for the customer).

Above is a race down the steps listed in the installation guide provided on the CD, whenever I try to connect to the server, I get the following error message.

    Failed to establish a connection.

This could be caused by one of the following:

    1. Incorrect password.

    2. No valid IP for the network card.

    3. Incorrect server address.

    4. You may need to disable your Windows firewall.

    5. Local IP address conflicts with the subnet of remote VPN server.

    1. I know that my password is correct

    2. I don't know what that means 'no IP address valid for the network adapter', although I am able to access the internet via the modem on my test laptop and have access to the web interface of the RV042 so I assumed that my IP is valid?

    3. I know that the address of the server is correct, I tried the two internal address of the RV042 and address the RV042 wan1

    4. I get exactly the same error message if the firewall is enabled or disabled on the XP or 7 machines.

    5. it's one I leave me puzzled, there is no connected computer so I don't know how there could be a conflict. However, just to make sure that I changed the IP address of the laptop outside the range allocated to the tunnel, and I still get the same error message.

I checked the "system log" server log file and that's what I get, it appears that the server actually accepts the connection between what I can make of this series of posts.

As your objective here is to do a LAN to LAN VPN, I don't mind playing with the VPN client software to test the router.  The VPN configuration can be pretty shakey on the rv series, and I recommend that you play with the options, just keep base.

Set up each local network be on a separate subnet.  That is to say, we're on 192.168.1.x, 192.168.2.x on.  On the VPN tab, set up accounts for both gateway to gateway vpn routers.  Test the connection into the router admin screens.  Check the connection with pings to each side of the lan systems.  Then try to use applications/files that you plan to use and see if it works.  If so, then success!  If this is not the case, check the different options to the title of each gateway account.  These options can make or break the vpn connection.  Good luck.

  • Certificates QuickVPN and WRV210 ignored

I have a WRV210 router with the latest firmware (2.0.0.11) and QuickVPN (1.3.0.3). In addition very annoying that Windows 7 is not supported (I can work around that by using virtual machines running XP), I have a problem with the certificates.

There is NO certificate in the QuickVPN directory

If I start QuickVPN it gives the error: "the server certificate does not exist on your local computer. You want to leave this connection? ».

However, if I click 'No', the connection continues in any case - and succeeds!

Where is the security if the certificate is ignored?

It seems to me that anyone with only the username and password can access the VPN

On the continuation of the investigation, there is a presharedkey defined in "ipsec.conf. Now I played with certificates

and had previously copied a certificate in this directory as the files get cached by here (or other) certificate

If so this get overridden if a new certificate, copied in the directory QuickVPN?

Read the help file on certificates, it seems to me that the question means really do you trust SSL

certificate for the router is the router on the connection. I'm not an expert of VPN, but it seems to me that

That's only half the story. How the router knows that the user is a user valid without a certificate of the user?

I look it as the reason why you exported a certificate and has placed in the directory QuickVPN - IE to authenticate the user

    What I'm missing here?

Another inconvenience - if I click 'Yes' to end the connection, I picked at QuickVPN but it

There is NO easy way to close the application. You can minimize it, but you can't close without the Task Manager.

It is also a security problem since minimizing removes the icon from the taskbar (I know there is an icon in the)

System tray, but the only way to determine this icon of is to select Help) so a user assumes

the program has ended but to restart the program simply restores the client with the full password.

QuickVPN Client uses the certificate to authenticate the server QuickVPN, which presents its certificate to the Client in the initial SSL handshake.

  • Errors of certificate RV042 browser by connecting to the web-based GUI

I put the RV042 for QuickVPN access.  The router config recommend turning on HTTPS in the firewall when using QuickVPN.  The side effect of this is any web browser get me certificate errors and warns me not not to continue to connect to the router config.  How can I fix this so the browser does not throw these messages?

Router Linksys brand is using the latest firmware for this material (1.3.13.02 - tm)

    Hi Tim,.

The deeper issue, it's because of the certification on the cisco.com area which you do not own. And when you connect to your router probably with your own domain name or ip address that it compares this information with the information stored in the certificate. Because it will never match across is a mistake. The RV0xx series routers are not able to install 3rd party certificates, then it will not be able to resolve in their current version. I'm not aware of any decision to modify the code to solve this problem. The RV220W and SA500 series routers have the ability to install a third-party certificate. The SA is the only other model that has the ability in the line of small business to double WAN.

  • How to configure RV042 VPN to use Windows 7 client native IPSec?

The question is in the title, I want to make the Windows client compatible with my RV042 VPN because Shrew Soft VPN fail to tunel after that little time and QuickVPN do not support Windows 7 or a 64-bit version of Windows.

Windows does not have an IPSec client, what they offer is a VPN client that can connect to PPTP, L2TP/IPsec (on IPSec), IKEv2. To connect directly to the router RV that our only option is to connect over PPTP once the PPTP server protocol is enabled on the router. If you have a server located behind the router, you can configure to be an endpoint to one of the above types. Don't know why, Mac and Windows don't have a naked IPSec feature built-in clients.

    Some third-party applications to consider:

    Windows: ShrewSoft IPSec Client

    Mac OS X: IPSecuritas

Both are relative simple to set up and on the routers RV0xx work fantastic and an exellent substitute QVPN. With these applications you set up the tunnel as a group and use the "XP/2000 Microsoft VPN Client ' option." " This option is a bit misleading because it seems to imply that the native VPN client can support IPSec settings, when it referred only that a computer would use this option during its WAN IP address is not always known.

    I hope this helps.

  • Why users need to disconnect and reconnect to the VPN to RDP?

Most of the time our VPN works perfectly, but sporadically users must reconnect to the VPN to use remote desktop. Is that the user can log on to the VPN and access to things like network drives, but not other features like RDP. If they disconnect and then reconnect to the VPN, poof, everything works fine. No matter if it is minutes or hours in the VPN connection, it still requires reconnection. It seems that it is always on the second attempt at the nick of this post point called 'the second time's a charm

We are using RRAS in SBS 2008 and the problem is multiple users tempting to VPN in XP and Win7 machines. We replaced the switches (now using Dell Powerconnects) and the router (now using Cisco RV042) and the problem persists.

Suggestions or responses are greatly appreciated.
