Satellite L300D - I can reduce the second partition?

I recently received this new laptop, and I'm happy with it.

However, I am puzzled by the partition available to it. It has a score of 74 GB (c) and a 73 GB partition (E);. C: is the partition with the operating system on and E: has 5 GB of HDDRecovery. I was wondering why this recovery partition is so great, and if it is necessary to have this great.

Should I reduce the minimum 5 GB partition or leave it as it is?

Thank you in advance to all.

Hello!

The HARD drive on the second partition recovery folder to your laptop factory settings and so it has a capacity of 5 GB. The image in this folder contains the operating system (Vista), all the drivers and tools.
Here's how you can use this option of saving the document a Toshiba:

So in your case I would not reduce the 5 GB partition.

Good bye

I want to reinstall Vista without touching the second partition that is full of data.
I'll be able to do with this procedure? http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm#

The confusing part is when it says in the explanation that the * entire hard drive * will be formatted (step 2) but on one of the photos, it is written that only data on C: will be erased.
I have Satellite L350, and the hard drive recovery process is the same as on the connected tutorial before (I'm not completely obviously)

    Hi amigo

I tested its operation, and from my experience, I can confirm that when you use the HDD recovery procedure as described in the Toshiba document all data saved on the second partition won t be deleted.

Only if you are using recovery DVD (please create a) will be formatted the whole HARD disk.

  • Satellite A300 - 21H - means that the hidden partition?

    Hello

I have a Satellite A300 - 21H and using MS vista but will get soon dual boot ubuntu.
When I look to the top of the size of my disk I see drive C is Go 148 and then there's an E drive also to 147 GB.
The E drive is ntfs (contains a folder named file text and drive HARD recovery) - I assumed it was the recovery disk, but it seems pretty huge!.

Then I looked in the manula see retrieve it should be 1.5 GB and there is also a shadow of 1.5 GB on the disk drive.
My question is what is the E drive, I can merge with the C drive? and I can wipe and always use the 1.5 gigabytes to retrieve things? and the two backup DVD I made what they are for?

    Thanks in advance:

    Hey Buddy

    The book contains 3 partitions;
A partition contains the operating system Vista
The second partition contains the folder of HARD disk recovery. This HARD drive recovery is necessary for HARD drive recovery procedure. You can grab the laptop without using the disk. You can boot from the HARD drive and can start the HARD drive recovery process.
But it s is strongly recommended to create a recovery disc! This could be useful if something goes wrong with the preinstalled operating system and HARD drive recovery.

Last partition (one hidden) contains the backup files in Vista called Windows re.
These backup files are needed to repair the operating system in critical situations
It s no. recommended to remove, delete or merge this partition!

  • Satellite Pro C660-225: shrink the recovery partition englarge C partition

When I first came to this product, prior to the opening, I thought that all 500 GB would go to the first partition, but then I saw that the recovery partition has half the 500 GB just for recovery which is unnessecery.

But I had no problem with it at the time and used the recovery (after the backup to a disk) for ubuntu partition, so I have a dual boot.

But now I came to realize that the games I download are taking up more room on my C drive. The problem I have is that I can reduce my recovery partition and expand the C drive.

Does anyone know a work around?

You will need a 3rd party software to reduce the recovery partition and add the partition of the free space in the existing C.
I would recommend a freeware tool called Gparted

But before you start this making, create a recovery disc!
This is recommended in the case where you would try to put the computer laptop configuration using this disc.

  • Equium L350 - 11 d - how do I delete the second partition on the HARD drive

How can I delete the second partition that came with the laptop, so I can use the full capacity of computers HARD drive?

I feel that this partition is their because I have not created a DVD of recovery he would remove the partition once I created the recovery DVDs.

The score contains a folder of HARD disk RECOVERY and in the folder says do not delete or change this folder or files.

    I have a Toshiba Equium L350 - 11 d

As you have already said that the second partition contains the HDD Recovery folder if you would remove this partition you will not be able to create the recovery DVD and would not be able to recover the laptop HARD drive.

Therefore, you must create the DVD before recovery would remove anything from the second partition on the HARD drive.

After you create the DVD recovery successfully, you could remove the partition and could add the free space on the HARD disk on the first partition.
This can be done on disk management!

  • Installation of games on the second partition

    Hello

How to install a game on the second partition? I tried, but an error message came that said "can't not install disk may become unstable.
    Thank you

    Hello Denise

You can install games and applications on the second partition and it will work if there is no problem with the operating system itself. If something goes wrong and you need to install OS again what you will do in this case. You can do anything and you will not be able to play the games.

Anyway, as far as I know avoid any problem. All you have to do is to change the destination folder and set the D partition as a destination. All that s!

  • I can reduce the brightness of the screen of the BIOS?

I have HP Pavilion dv7 7003 - portable tx which has 17.3 "FHD display. I have 2 simple questions that I have not found someone asked before.

First question. I can easily adjust brightness laptop computer under Windows 7. But the BIOS screen full backlit. Normally, it is not a problem (because of the black of the screen IE "Press ESC for Boot Menu" and the Windows Logo on a black background). But when I access the BIOS Setup or upgrade of BIOS (of course), it's no doubt noticeable that this laptop backlit is complete before starting Windows. When I connect the laptop with an HDTV via HDMI, BIOS Configuration screen backlit is bearable in the screen of the TV (depending on the setting of the TV) and unbearable (IE full backlit and white background of the HP BIOS configuration) in the screen of the laptop at the same time. It is a problem of laptop screen adjustment. I want to adjust the brightness of the laptop regardless of starting Windows screen. I can reduce the brightness of the screen of the BIOS in your laptop monitor?

Second question. Can I put in screen laptop for something like "fit screen"? Currently, it is set to something like "Stretch screen. I don't like the duct Chassis Windows startup Logo. However, under Windows, I can play 4:3 resolution games in something like setting "fit screen".

    Thank you.

Not the F2 and F3 keys is not a function in the BIOS. The screen cannot be cleared up or dimmed inside the BIOS.

For the issue of screen resolution, the resolution provided for within Windows should also be the resolution on login/Welcome screen. Try to reset your resolution in Windows (without an attached external monitor), and then restart it a few times to see if the resolution sticks throughout the boot process. Let me know the results when you get a chance.

  • Satellite M40X-129: where is the second RAM?

    Hello

I have a problem with my laptop. Since I closed it last time when the battery was empty I can´t start Notepad again. I'm getting a signal from the BIOS. 1-3-3-1 is the beep code. So, I think, I have an error with either of my two 512MB - RAM.

Yesterday I opened the hood of the laptop at the undersite and removed the 512 MB of RAM. Then I tested the laptop again - but the beep code is the same.

Today, as I searched the second 512 MB of RAM under the keyboard, but I didn t found the second RAM.

Can someone tell me how I can reach the second 512 MB of RAM?

Thank you very much for your help!

    Hello

a friend of mine has a similar machine and we exchanged the two modules. If you have no warranty on that then it s no problem machine to do what I say to you:
Right you´re the second RAM is under the keyboard, but after removing the keyboard, unscrew a small cover that appears after lifting the keyboard. This bit of cover and the second RAM will appear.

  • How can I delete second partition?

Hello, I recently created a second partition on my C: drive.  I changed my mind on the installation of a new OS, so now I would like to delete the partition and merge it into a C: drive.  I have to mark the partition as inactive, and now I'm ready to remove it. But when I try to delete or format the partition, I get this message:

Delete is not allowed on the boot volume, system, file, dump on incident or current hibernation.

I understand that this message should appear if I was on the c: partition, but not on the second partition, I created.  How to delete this partition?  Thank you

Thank you for your response.  I found the answer on an accident!  I changed the drive letter and restarted and after that, I was able to delete the partition and extend the main partition to take all the C: drive.  Thank you

  • How can I configure Satellite A300-148 boot from the recovery partition?

    Hello

I had some problems when trying to install MAC - OSX, for her, where the partition table is deleted, then I retrieve the entire score as it is, but I can not start in any case.
Then I decide temproraly install another copy of vista drive Vista (not the partition), then set up my laptop to boot from the recovery partition and reinstall the good copy.
My problem is, it's all here, the only problem is, I need to configure the system to boot from the recovery partition.

    My device is:
    Satellite A300-148

    Thanks to the device.
    Ahmed.

    Hello

If you have already changed the partitions of HARD drive and deleted files from the HARD disk, then your HARD drive recovery is too bad!

But to make sure that the HARD drive recovery is not possible please press F8 immediately after the power of the laptop. Usually a start menu should appear and you should be able to choose the option called fix my computer. Then you should be able to choose recovery option.

But like I said that this is only possible if your HARD drive was not formatted!

If you have formatted the HARD drive and changed partitions then you will need a Toshiba DVD recovery that you have not because you didn t he create at the beginning. Is this good? Well, then you must order the recovery DVDs if you want to retrieve the laptop to factory settings.

  • Satellite L300D-12U - lost all the discs - where can I download the drivers?

I lost all my CD I got with my laptop. (drivers, backup, vista)
    I can upload them somewhere?

    Hello

I put t what you've lost your recovery disk.
The point is that the most recent series of Toshiba laptop is equipped with the recovery of HARD drive feature and allows you to create an own recovery DVDs.

You must use the software called Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator to create a clean restore DVD.

    By the way;
Alternatively, you can download the Vista drivers from the Toshiba page:

  • Satellite L755-154: waste of space of HARD drive due to the second partition

    Hello

I bought this laptop so far everything goes well.
However, there seems to be 2 partitions on it, the first is the C: drive that is around 300 GB, but the 2nd partition D: which is again about 300 GB, which has only the recovery drive?

This seems to be a waste of hard drive space, because I bought it because it had a good-sized hard drive.
Now, my question is that I have to make a record of this partition recovery, and then re - format both drives and install everything from scratch?

Also, the recovery disc has all the drivers for all components of the laptop, as well as Windows 7?
As I bought this form Amazon no windows disk or recovery disk was provided, only the windows 7 serial number.

    Thank you

    > Now, my question is what I need to do a recovery from that partition, then re disc - format both drives and install everything from scratch?

In General, you should always create a recovery disk.
If you have created a recovery disc then this disk will help you set the laptop back to factory settings. This means that all the HARD disk should be formatted and would once again create all partitions. This means that you will get these two partitions again.

If you want to move the free space in partition D to C, then you will need to use a software of partitions. I use GParted its great tool

    > Also the recovery disc has all the drivers for all components of the laptop, and Windows 7
    Yes

    > As I bought this form Amazon no windows disk or recovery disk was provided, only the windows 7 serial number.
See above, that you create this recovery disk!
