Satellite L40: Standby/sleep Modes

I have my L40 to enter the mode "sleep" when I close the lid.
How ca, I wake it if it won't wake up itself on the opening in the lid.

I tried to click; and pressing the button THERE.

I even tried to scream at him.

What is the trick?

It's no trick it's a feature!
The programmers of bios assume you want to make a quick start of the laptop by opening the lid once you quickly regained it by closing the lid.
That's all. It is a feature of the bios and you can not turn it off.

I have a desktop HP Pavilion Elite HPE-250f (Core i7).

Generally, when the computer goes into standby/sleep mode (after a certain period of not used), the color on the power button turns from blue to yellow. But this time, the blue color.

Usually, I can move the mouse and exit this mode. But this time I moved the mouse and nothing happened.

I pressed and held the power button and turns off the computer. I then turned the computer back on. The power button is blue, there is a green light on the back of the computer, and the fans were at work. But nothing on the screen.

  • USB ports do not work after waking up Satellite A200 from sleep mode

After that I spend my Satellite A200-244 "sleep" or "hibernate" USB ports do not work!

    Hi mate,

    already tried this:

Open start and type Device Manager and then press ENTER, to start Device Manager. Click on the sign + next to "Controllers of Bus USB" and then in the list, you should see some devices called 'USB hub root'. For each one, click right, hit properties, go to the power management tab and uncheck the box "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." Then restart.

Maybe it works. Another solution would probably be this Microsoft KB document:

Also, if I leave the lid open and the laptop goes to sleep for inactivity, I frequently find my back it has restarted itself. There is usually an error saying Microsoft... Unexpected shutdown windows... by clicking more talks blue screen information and gives detailed error codes that I don't understand.

Everyone knows this? I guess I can live with it but check all the drivers to see if they need to update at the moment.

    Hello

Sorry, but this is a common Windows error message and it provides only an image of memory address
That doesn't need a common windows user.
I think we should focus on the BSOD.

Especially that blue screen of death appears if the equipment works trouble if a serious software error.
In my opinion we should know if this problem is software or hardware related.

First of all, you need to format the HARD drive (don't forget to make a backup of your data) and should install the OS on the recovery CD Toshiba delivered.
The installation is very easy and smoothly managed

If the laptop will not properly work after this procedure, I guess there is something wrong with the hardware and the laptop must be verified.

It seems that the P100 is not an old book at the moment and of the guarantee must be valid.
Then contact the ASP in your country and ask for help!

    Best regards

  • Satellite L40 don't stop with power connected and is not in sleep mode

Hello world. I hope someone can help me. Basically, there are two problems: one with judgment of the laptop (Satellite L40 - 17U (Vista 32 bit Home Premium SP1)) down when power is connected and the other with closing the lid and put it to sleep.

    1. in recent weeks, it all of a sudden won't stop, whenever power is connected. When it's on battery, it will stop. When the power is connected, and I try to stop, it seems that it closed down (all activity stops and the led goes off) for about 1 or 2 seconds, then it goes back.

    2. when I close the lid (all settings in Vista are set to put the laptop in a State of 'sleep' when the lid is closed), the laptop enters a State where it cannot be recovered by stopping by pressing the power button for 10 seconds to close completely. When closing the cover, only the battery LED continues to Flash orange (the way it should be), but apparently the laptop keeps consuming power, because when I restart later (first having to close as described above) tends to be quite an empty battery as it was before the next redΘmarrage it (like go from 100% to 65% in 30 minutes as "standby mode"). Also, when I open the cover, the other LEDS will on new (green), but nothing happens.
After the restart first by pressing the power button for 10 seconds to close, I often get the message that Windows cannot be started and run the system repair.

I just do a completely clean install with the product recovery CD (has not installed SP1 yet), updated to v1.90 BIOS, but the problem remains.

I'm afraid that my only option will be to bring him away for a warranty repair, but knowing that these repairs can take weeks, I'd rather try a solution here could someone recommend me first. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

    Thank you

    Hi guys

Never had this problem on my laptop, but with regard to an other users here in the forum the BIOS might help solve such strange behavior for laptop
To be honest the closed question is unclear for me I noticed a problem before on my laptop but the update of the BIOS helped.

This is why I recommend update BIOS first.
If the problem still appears, the ASP should take a look in the notebook.

  • Sleep on my Satellite L40 problem

    Hi all

I tried to post a more detailed version of this description of the problem, but was prevented by a caveat that my message contained profanity or that it was not appropriate. It didn't, of course, but here's the summary - if more details are required, I will be happy if possible poster.

    (1) satellite L40 equipped Windows Vista goes into sleep mode randomly while the user types. The hard drive spins down, the screen goes blank and the power LED flashes orange. It arrives a few seconds / minutes.

    (4) this does not happen in Mode safe mode of Windows, or when the computer starts from a Memtest86 CD or Ubuntu 9.04 Live CD.

    (5) I reinstalled Windows from the recovery CD Toshiba but the machine came into fashion 'sleep', as soon as he had painted the Office for the first time after installation.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Rob.

    Hello

    This strange s
Have you checked the energy saving settings? I mean you can try to disable the mode 'sleep' (uncheck the brand)
But to be honest the laptop should not go to the mode standby when the material is used
This would mean that there is something wrong with a part on the motherboard

I think that this issue doesn't happen in Safe Mode because that not all material resources are enabled and available in Mode safe and that's why this error would not be detected.

  • Satellite L40 - Sleed and standby does not work correctly

I have a portable Satellite L40 and it worked correctly until now. I turn and after I have put on standby (stand-by) mode; When I want to use my system, so to get that back to normal (I press the turn power button to exit the mode "standby" button), Windows Vista 32-bit restarts - it is not back to the moment I left it before the "sleep mode".

Therefore, restarting Windows Vista 32-bit, and the screen "Windows has been disabled incorrect" appears instead to return to the configuration of the system that let him before sleep / standby mode.

What can I do to fix this and make "sleep" mode works correctly?

    Hello!

In your case, I'd do a BIOS update. You can search for updates on the Toshiba site
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com

You should also look into the mangment of power. Here, you configure what happened when you close the screen, press the power button and so far.

  • Cannot start by Satellite A10-S703 from sleep mode

My boss gave me a Satellite A10-S703 running windows XP. I was tooling autour, when suddenly the computer is in sleep mode (LED flashes orange). I tried pressing the power button, but nothing happens. What should I do? I am seriously at the end of the roll and will be in hot water if I can't get the thing started. Help, please.

    Hello

It of very strange that the laptop switches mode standby during the work on this.
Anyway, you can try this way:
Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery from the laptop and wait several times. It's not easy to tell how long to wait but wait 10-15 minutes

Replace the battery in the notebook, and then connect the power adapter. Try turning on the laptop computer.

To my knowledge, this is a common procedure if such question comes on the laptop.

  • Satellite L40-139: new graphics driver is causing the problem after waking from sleep

I have a three month old Toshiba Satellite L40-139 (PSL40E) with 1 GB of RAM with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed. This laptop worked very well for me for the basic headquarters far tasks, and I would have no problem recommending.

In the last days I've updated the software and drivers from the Microsoft Update web site.

Since the update driver Mobile Intel(r) 945 Express Chipset Family (to version 7.14.10.1350, dated October 18, 2007), the screen resolution at 800 x 600 after awakening from the sleep state. The only way I found to fix it is to restart the PC.

Other articles published on the web, I understand that this particular driver (Mobile Intel(r) 945 Express Chipset Family driver 7.14.10.1350 version) has caused many other problems on a variety of hardware and software platforms.

Does anyone have a definitive solution for Satellite L40?

    I looked at four options.

    1. let the new installed driver and restart Windows each time after waking up from sleep mode. Rather, I must not do this.

    2. using the Restore Point created by Windows Update before the update of the driver, roll back to an earlier time. This seems to be a good course if it works.

3 download an older version of the driver and reinstall it. I don't know which version would work but note that others have had success with the 7.14.10.1280 version. I guess a similar version could be included in the driver Package that can be downloaded from Toshiba Europe site, but have heard that the time required to download this software can exceed ten hours and am therefore reluctant to try.

    4. the fourth option is not really possible. I should be able to "Roll-Back" the driver in Device Manager, but the button is disabled.

Although only a minor problem, it is very irritating and I would like to address them without causing other problems. Does anyone else have this problem? Someone has fixed it successfully?

    Hello Peter

If I understand correctly, you use your usual laptop for daily work and you don't need any computer high-performance notebook. If I'm right I have to say that you should be happy if the laptop works well and stable.

I don't really see any reason why you wanted to update chipset driver. In any case, you should try to roll back the BONES of time earlier and I hope everything will work again. There is absolutely no risk, and you can test it.

    Please post the result.

  • Satellite U300 falls down and cannot wake up from sleep mode

    Hello

I got a Satellite U300 a few days and I get in trouble, when the laptop goes into sleep mode.
The thing is that when he goes to sleep, the screen turns off but the light stays on (blue), instead of flashing with an orange color.

It is not possible to wake the portable computer, and the only solution is to restart the computer.

I tried the different possibilities to enter sleep mode, and I get the problem mainly when the computer is in high-performance Vista and when you press the stop button in the quick menu.

I know Vista gives a certain a lot of problems, but I didn't know anyone here who face the same problem.
Should I send the laptop back to technical support?

    Thanks in advance,

I had the opportunity to work a little with several laptops from Toshiba, and one of them was Satellite U300. After a brief check of the basic functions for laptop I can say with certainty that switch between mode and standby/hibernation mode work well and I didn't notice any problems.

I really don't understand what is wrong with that, but please do:
-If you want to switch to standby mode, choose option using the button START.
-Wait a bit and I hope after a few seconds, the laptop will change automatically in standby mode (blinking amber LED)
    -Close the cover
-Wait a moment opened the lid and press the power button
I really hope that your laptop will start correctly and you will be able to use the OS again.

    Good bye

Satellite A300 1HP is not in sleep mode after 30 minutes inactivity.
Windows settings are OK (I'm an experienced user).
He goes to sleep, if I do it manually (by pressing the power button) - but not after inactivity,

    Any idea?

    Hello, Norbert

Maybe you should check the settings of Vista power again. I have too many A300 and everything works fine.
I tested it with all three power plans. Have you done the same?

Usually, I use the BALANCED power plan and enter mode standby 20 minutes correctly.

  • Satellite L505D - problem with mode standby in Windows 7

It's me again, in the last thread:

    "Hello friends,

I have a big problem when Windows 7 updated itself. I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite L505D. When I close the lid, it will automatically 'sleep' mode. Unfortunately, the screen is black and the laptop is still in progress, I have to stop it and then turn. Is it a problem with the driver 'stack '? Please, help me :)). "

The mode 'sleep' worked perfeclty for a few days and it's still gone... What more when I try to enter the mode "sleep" I can't do anything on the laptop, it still works on the white screen and the transformers fan works high speed. In recent days, when the "sleep mode" worked, windows has no update...

I don't know what is happening... :) Weird problem, isn't?

It is not easy to say why this is happening. In your last post, you wrote about some updates of windows. Who knows what's wrong there.
If nothing is done, not even system restore and you want to use the standby mode I recommend you save all your data and install the new OS by using recovery mode.

With the settings everything's going to be OK but then be careful with updates.

    Hey Buddy,

You use the preinstalled version of Windows 7 in Toshiba or did you install your own version of it?

It would be interesting to know what happens if you press the key combination FN + F3 to standby mode or if you choose waiting for the start menu.
    You can check this please?

Otherwise, you should try to load the default settings in the BIOS.
