Satellite M40: Touchpad not working not properly

I just had a problem where my dog jumped on my knee and operated something on the keyboard of my satellite M40.

Now, whenever I try to press the button two times, I get the properties of the icon I'm hovering above. When I try to use the keyboard in Word, I get the menus to open instead of type appearing in the document.

I can erase it with a restart, but I would like to know what happened.

Fiona

Hello

It seems that the dog has changed the touchpad options ;)
You should check the device touchpad settings in the mouse properties.
What you can find in the control panel.
Select the mouse and then go to the device settings tab. Then go to the synaptics touchpad settings.
There you should find a few options you should check.

My cdrom on Satellite M40-142 drive won't start!

    Hello

    > my m40-142 cdrom drive won't start!
    > If I choose to boot from the dvd/cdrom, always my laptop boot from the disk

    The possible reasons:

    1. it does not work. Is it read cd/dvd discs when you insert the?
    2. the cd/dvd disc you insert (ithink, you're talking about windows disk) not bootable.

    > . In my view, is a bios problem. Is it possible to reinstall my BIOS?

Yes, you should check for Bios on the Toshiba driver page:

  • Satellite M40 does not start

I have several problems with my Satellite M40-149.
When to stop crashes on a blue screen.

Almost impossible to start. After a few shakes and if its my llucky day, it starts, but in most cases crashes to the Toshiba logo "in touch with tomorrow" with the four symbols for hd, cd, floppy and script. I did all the tests, I could find, there is no virus, the hd is ok (I tried several) and after successfully
start the screen looks ok to me.

I even tried Linux on another with almost the same results, very difficult to start.
Is there another test, I could do (except the Toshiba test)?

Any suggestions on where to find are welcome!
    dimlog

    Hi dimlog.

This seems a bit strange as a hardware problem. I can t imagine it has something to do with the software, for example. If the computer laptop doesn't boot correctly and freezes on the screen Toshiba (BIOS screen) something wrong with the hardware.

I m not a technician but maybe the motherboard is the reason for this. But to make sure that it is the cause of the laptop should be checked by a technician of the laptop.

If you can fix it yourself, also have a look on eBay for second-hand parts they are cheaper as new parts.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite M40 does not load before the BIOS screen

When I turn on my Satellite M40 unfortunately it does not happened on 7/8ths blue bar going across the screen.

That left me completely baffled as what to do.

Apparently, it could be repaired by removing the cables on my CMOS battery?

If someone knows how I would go all this? or have any other ideas?

    Thank you xx

    Hi Dec,

Blue scroll bars indicate that the Wondiows operating system is loaded from the hard drive. If this process hangs while loading, then it is likely that the hard drive itself is defetive or else the files that are being loaded are corrupt and cannot be loaded.

Interfere with the CMOS chip will not fix this problem because the BIOS has already been loaded at this point.

If you have access to a bootable CD/DVD (such as Norton Disk Doctor) then I siggest you boot from it and running a scan of your hard drive. Alternatively you can try reinstalling your operating system of the Toshiba recovery CD but it won't replace your own data on your hard drive.

  • When changing the 80 GB to 40 GB HARD drive, Satellite M40 does not recognize the drive

    Hi all

    Thanks for coming in! :)
I recently source two-disc 40GB 2.5 "IDE and intended to run one of them in my Satellite M40.

    The problem starts here:

    (1) I took the original 80 GB hard drive & install the 40 GB hard drive
    (2) start and put in the Toshiba M40 recovery disk
    (3) display screen 'Y' for recovery blah blah blah thing...
    (4) then the screen shows 'cannot be installed because no hard drive found ".
    (5) I boot in the BIOS using F2-> F1, page 2 shows no hard drive

    (6) I try to use my own CD of Windows XP Pro, same thing (as in no hard drive found)
    (7) and the BIOS too show no hard drive found

The two disk 40 GB is out of mobile work and they formatted it, partition deleted with NOTHING on it. They have also been tested on other PCs (using the converter) using WXP. Two of them work very well!

Now, the weird thing is that I just can't make it work at least in the Sat - M40. Why is this? Toshiba locked the M40 being one Toshiba-disc is usable?
Is there a place to get through it? Hidden BIOS?

I have fixed a large number of PCs, but I can't with this, Please HELP...
Any response would be appreciated, thanks! :)

    Hello

The M40 should be able to use 40 GB hard drives with no problems.
But you must use hard drives with the right interface.
To my knowledge the M40 supports hard drives with an interface IDE (ATA-6).

So be sure that your 40 GB HARD drive supports it.

By the way; Check if your HARD drive supports the good master or slave definition.

    Hello

Maybe you need to update/reinstall the driver from the touchpad again if the suggestion posted by Akuma didn t help.

Maybe there is something wrong with the software/driver for the touchpad, so it of certainly worth a try

  • Satellite M40 does not start from hard disk - read error

"I push the button - briefly see the In Touch with tomorrow TOSHIBA screen - then ' + a disk read error occurred press Ctrl Alt Del to restart +".

I control alt delete brings me briefly on the screen TOSHIBA where I can choose either F2 or F12.

Do I need a startup disk and where can I get one in order to boot from the CD ROM?
Do I try to get into the Satellite M40 product Recovery DVD-ROM - this concern for me as the hard drive will be reformatted and all data will be lost.

    I'm stuck please help!

    Hello!

If you enter the product recovery disc, Windows will be relocated and will be erasing all data on the HARD drive.

I think that your HARD drive is damaged. You can check this with the Drive Fitness Test. Here you can download:
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT
Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. Then you can test the HARD drive.
On the same site is a user's guide if you want to know more.

By the way: you can save the data on the HARD drive, when you put it in a box external HARD disk. Then you can save the data on another PC, if the HARD drive is ok and have no errors.

    Good bye

  • Satellite L500: touchpad stoped working

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 laptop and all of a sudden my touchpad stop working.
I tried to check the mouse options in Control Panel, but I find it still in there.

    No idea how fix it.
What should I bring to a service center?

    Thank you

    Hello

First of all; Please check if the touchpad has not been accidentally disabled.
Check the FN + F9. This function activates and disables the touchpad.

In addition, you can go to control panel-> mouse-> device settings
Here, you should also check if the touchpad is enabled or disabled.

Finally and above all an update of the driver touch pad or relocation could help

  • Z30-B-100 satellite - enabled touchpad not working not

I just turned on the laptop and that was trying to set up connections wifi touchpad no longer works.

I tried the Fn + F9 key, but nothing has changed. I turned the laptop off and then on again without any result.

I can work to plug a usb mouse but the touchpad still does not work.

You have a solution or should I take to be repaired?

I bought it a week ago and I just had office and antivirus installed and worked very well so far.

    Thank you

The touchpad works in the BIOS?

If this isn't the case, it may be a hardware problem, or it is simply disabled in the BIOS.

  • Satellite L630 - Touchpad not responding

    Hello

I bought a TOSHIBA Satellite L630 two days ago. Today morning, the touchpad does more (no reaction from the cursor to the actions of finger).
Properties: Synaptics TouchPad V7.2 on PS/2 port. Property window indicates that the touchpad is in order.

I tried to reinstall the drivers (return to the previous version, then the new update). Well all my attempts have not.
Any iddea? (maybe a hardware issue?)

Thanks in advance and sorry for my English :)

    Hey Buddy,

Maybe the internal touchpad is just off...
Press the FN + F9 key combination to turn it on.

    It work?

  • Satellite M40 does not seem to charge the battery beyond a certain level

Just a brief explanation of my work.

    I make repairs pc and laptop, replacement of jack, BGA/brazing repairs etc.;
However computer have always baffled me. I have a Toshiba M40, although I know that this problem is not specific to this model.

The laptop does not charge the battery beyond a certain level at the moment its impasse on 41%, it says loading in windows but do not go anywhere.
I saw other portable that stick onto the other percentages 99%, 70% etc.

I tried to completely discharge the battery (on windows) and reload (for Windows), and also tried to unload and reload not in o/s, if anything they seem to have made things worse as initially the issue of charge level was approximately 50% and more.

By mistake the laptop wasn't for awhile so the battery flat, which probably did not help as I understand its best to store 40% battery when not in use.

Any ideas what the problem is and if theres any way to revive this battery?

    Hello

In my opinion, the problem is related to the breakdown of battery.
I'm don't know how old your battery is but eventually should be replaced.
After a long period of use, the battery loses the own performance and must be replaced.
This is nothing unusual and often to used batteries.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite M40 will not stop, restart, or go into sleep mode

    Hello
I need help with my laptop. Recently, I was unable to shut down my computer. After trying to close it through windows, the screen goes black, but the system and the light around the power button remains on. I can only turn off my computer by holding down the power button. Also if I try to sleep or restart, the same thing happens.

I think this may have something to do with the energy saver, since the symbol disappears sometimes, or it will be a red circle with a line crossed out through it on top of the icon. I also sometimes get a message saying that something in the sense of: "a fatal error has occurred, this program will end. code 0 x 57 ".

Any ideas on what is happening and what I can do about it?

    Hello

The error message "a fatal error has occurred, this program will end. code 0 x 57"belongs to the Toshiba Power Saver installed.
I think you should try to reinstall.

    Regarding Win XP shutdown issue.
Sometimes my laptop does not correctly close because of some processes that are running in the background.
Usually all processes must be closed before that windows would shut down the laptop.

But sometimes this type of process can not be closed for reason not apparent... seems that it would be if the registry could be confused to the top...

I cleaned mu OS using a cleaning tool. You can test a CCLeaner. It is not bad and free.

  • Satellite M40 does not detect the battery

I formatted my laptop and installed xp and I have problem with battery
The Device Manager shows that without pilot and don t see autonomy and no change when you plug in the power adapter.

Is there a driver for the batteries? Or if windows detects

    > Is there a driver for the batteries? Or if windows detects
Are you serious? You need a battery driver?

Sorry, but buddy I first heard about this driver there is NO driver battery and you don t need these drivers.

The battery should be detected automatically by the operating system.

If you want to see the battery in the taskbar, then I recommend that you install the Toshiba Power Saver. The energy saver must switch to the battery during the passage of the AC adapter in and out.

  • Satellite U400: touchpad stopped working after Vista update

    Hello

My Touchpad U400 cannot work after the upgrade, (under the Vsita system).
I tried so many ways to solve, but still does not
    Did someone get hurt it?

I tried to get into the BIOS to enable
And also tried to download my touchpad driver (but I can find it)
BTW, Fn + F9 does not work as well

Please help me solve this problem

    Thank you very much

    > And also tried to download my touchpad driver (but I can find it)

The touchpad driver is placed on the page of the European driver Toshiba
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-> support download &-> download drivers

Here, one must choose the right laptop model (see the bottom of the unit model number)
Then choose the operating system and the touchpad driver should appear.

PS: there are two touchpad drivers listed on the page; Synaptics and Alps Electric
    Both must be installed!
