Screen is black after MS Windows 8 to 8.1 upgrade.

Product model HP Pavilion series of 15-e027AX, product E6G17PA #ABG, [number of Series edited by Moderator]. Worked with Windows 8 install ODD. My young son has accepted the upgrade to MS Windows 8.1 and each startup goes through the Windows startup screen, then goes black. We have been in contact with MS and have disabled graphics cards and view it in safe mode, but the problem has not been corrected. We need a fix or be supplied with Windows 8 to reinstall and start over.

Hello @DerekSams,

I see you're reacing to the Windows splash screen during startup, then the screen goes black. I will try to help you with this.

In the end, there was several updates to MS causing this issue among the many portable computers and computers industry wide (not all, but many are affected). Here are the steps that can help you.

Start the computer in Safe Mode (documents below). Once in safe mode, check if the following updates have been installed.
KO 2982791
KO 2970228
KO 2975719
KO 2975331
KB2993651
If none of those installed, Uninstall and hide them. Restart the computer and see if you are able to get into Windows.

Also, check to see if you have an application called "Search protect" installed. If you do, this delete as well.

Documents for Safe Mode
Enter SafeMode (Windows 7)
Safe mode of Windows 8

If the problem persists after restarting, please try to do a restore of the system for you laptop.
Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7)
Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)
If you had to go this route, please let me know the results.

(The restoration should be before August, as at fault updates were released in August)

    Hello

I have a HP G62-b05SD. I noticed that many people have the problem of simmular.

I know what makes, but don't know how to fix it.

    So here it is.

Sometimes when I boot / reboot system screen turns black after the windows logo, but if I wait a while, I do not hear the star tune up windows, but the screen remains black.

I noticed that this happens when I shut down or restart the system with a usb port (be it a mouse or a stick is not serious)

If I all out en usb port restart or turn on the machine for the first time this day here, everything starts well.

So there must be some driver problems I think with usb ports and the screen or something.

    Help, please!

Ow and when I get the black screen, the hard reset does not always work.

I also did a startup repair and it showed:

    I hope you can help.

  • Wrong turn on 14 months old laptop, screen goes black after the windows icon.

If we make a wrong stop down, it works in safe mode? Found information on a forum about how to get to the main screen, battery cable, press 'on' for 30 seconds, then cable back in and turn, but its success and Miss, and when we get we can not restore to a previous restore point. ideas to please because I am not very good with technology. Web site toshiba tried today as is the brand, but he asked the serial number and cannot recognize it, then smolt he could detect the laptop online, but the page does not, do not know what to do or where to look next. Thank you

Thank you for having prepared the answer of the indepth network.

His computer has been allowing us to start in safe mode, so I knew that this was not a screen problem. I tried to follow the link microsoft to start in a clean boot, as I had never heard of this before, but I could find it only for windows xp not windows 7. really, I'm not technical and was at my wits end, failed twice to restore because it says cannot restore because he could not get rid of a file called nativeimages _ windows livewriter?

As a last resort, and something I should have done in the first place, I deleted everything that my daughter had downloaded to play music and watch TV on since the beginning of the new year so that it worked very well. some of the applications must have been with it downloaded that she had never heard of them before things happen.

Once we had all these off (except upgrades) the laptop started immediately.

Still thank you for your time, I was ready to go into a computer store for repair, but your encouragement to try to fix that made me determined to do. very grateful

  • Screen goes black after plugin and come on

When I plug / unplug my PC, there is a blank black screen 2 seconds, after which windows pops up again. Frequency 60 Hz of refresh. Help, please. It is very irritating.

    Hi Patrick,

I understand that it's frustrating when things don't work as expected. The issue you described could occur if the display driver is not updated.

To better understand the question I would say that you check power for both management, i.e. when the computer is plugged in and when the computer is unplugged. Keep the settings for both the energy saving mode, then check the issue. See the steps below:
    1. press Windows + X and click on Power Options.
    2. now set power saving for both settings when the computer is plugged in and when the computer is unplugged.
    3. now check the issue and let us know the result.

Please answer the following questions so that we can better help you:

    1. What is the brand and model of the computer?

    2. what exactly do you mean when you say "connect / disconnect"?

Try the steps mentioned below and check if it helps solve the problem.

    Method 1
Install all the updates of Windows including the optional updates and check the issue.
    Updates: frequently asked questions

    Method 2
Updated the display of the device manager driver and check if this solves the problem. See the steps below:
    1. press Windows + X, click on Device Manager.
    2. check if you can see the error for the display driver.
3 If you any error then right click on the display driver and then update the driver.
    4. check the question;

    Method 3
Install the latest driver from the website of the manufacturer of the computer display and check if that helps. You can also install the latest version of BIOS and drivers from the chipset from here.

Note: BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved.
Changes to settings are at your own risk.

I hope this helps. If not, please write to us with the results, we will be happy to help you further.

  • Inspiron 9300 screen turns off after the Windows Logo screen

Inspiron 9300 my wife became severely infected.  I thought I had some weird things start popping up of the problem decided to wipe the hard drive and start over.  Unfortunately, I don't have to restore disks when I bought the computer.  I install windows xp pro service pack 2 full retail version.

Installation was not a problem until I installed the driver ATI Mobility x 300.  I followed directions for installation from the website, do the installation of xp followed of the dell system software update followed of chipset followed video driver.  After that whenever I put on, the screen turns off after the Windows Logo.  The computer is still running and if I plug an external monitor everythng is fine.

I tried all the troubleshooting tips I've seen in this forum.  I did a full install twice. made of safety boots (all right), started in VGA mode (works fine), I ran diagnostics from fn on startup, including express, extended and video tests and they pass all the controls.  I'm sure it's a software problem, but have been unable to solve.  I've updated the ATI bios although when I run it says already installed and done one installs x 300 driver on 6 ttimes own.

I know it must be something simple that I'm missing. My system is the Inspiron 9300 with 2 GB of ram and the mobility x 300 card.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • Portege R100: The screen goes black after installing SP2

    Hello
Currently, I tried to install SP2 for my laptop (Windows XP pro) R100. The end of the installation procedure I restarted the system, as requested. The windows logo appeared, then the screen went black and the only thing I could see was the mouse cursor.

After several reboots, the situation did not do better. I tried to go on safe mode, but I had the same (only this time the black backround was typical registration of safe mode on the sides). I will perform a system restore without having to install SP2, but the fact that I am on a DSL connection most of the time very important SP2 installation.

I would appreciate any solution to this problem.
    Thanks for your time.

    Hello

As far as I know sometimes a few utilities and drivers must be updated after installation of the service pack 2 Microsoft.
On the Toshiba driver page I found a backgrounder update of Microsoft Windows XP SP2 that contains a few s information about the utilities that must be updated.

However, additional I found a lot of new drivers for R100.
I think you should also try to update the old drivers as driver utility and the graphics card chipset.
    Eventually, it helps.
